No Service - Nexus 6P Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So ive had the phone since launch and in the past 3-4 months i'd lose signal quite often during normal usage. But in the past month it happens pretty much every time I use it. Im on T-Mobile and I know they had some problem with the Nexus phones on their service back in August but I thought that would have been fixed by now. And then an hour ago I lost service and I cannot get it back at all no matter what I do. Im on stock 7.0 Nougat, non rooted. Ive tried all the resetting methods and what not but no go.
Any help would be appreciated, hopefully its not hardware related

I don't think it's hardware. I have the same issue on my device. Rebooting usually brings it back for me for a while
Sent from my Nexus 6P using Tapatalk

Same issue here... I RMA'd my device last week and same exact issue on this new device. I'm also on T-Mobile and I even got a new sim...

If you keep up with T-mobile news. They've been getting outages intermittently in certain locations.

It's gotten so annoying I can't even use the phone unless I'm on wifi. It cuts off service like every 10 seconds no matter how strong the signal is

I've attached a pic of the service menu.. Everytime the service goes out it always switched to the CDMA network even tho T-Mobile is LTE and what not

mines been doing this too, even wifi calling will go to no service sometimes.
I've only noticed it since I've been on benzo rom tho, not sure if its related.

OK so my theory was true, tested it many times.. looks like something in software or hardware of the 6p is making it switch from LTE to CDMA causing it to drop service and then I have to manually switch it back to LTE

I feel as though it's related to the cell towers. I spent the weekend in DC and I didn't have any issues whatsoever. I came home to Pittsburgh and within 30 minutes if being home I had my first loss of service
Sent from my Nexus 6P using Tapatalk

I'm in Atlanta where they should have good service but it's everywhere around here it happens

I just opened a ticket with T-Mobile so I'll follow up with whatever feedback they provide me withing the next 72 hours!

[Q] Network keeps restarting on T-Mobile

I'm making this post because I need some assistance...I've already searched around this forum for a few days but it seems like I may be the only one with this issue...
I got the phone a few days ago, from day one I noticed I've been having network issues. By that I mean every time I try to use any apps that require data such as facebook, youtube, instagram, chrome, google now, and especially speedtest, my network would die for about 10 seconds as it reconnects.
All bars drop, I get the message of "network unavailable", and slowly edge speeds come back, followed by hspa.
I have tested this throughout all parts of Los Angeles already.
I have also replaced the micro sim card twice.
I also hard reset the phone back to stock.
Also reset the APN settings.
Two other people I know of in the area, their Nexus 4's work perfectly fine.
I'm all out of options, the T-Mobile tech support team is also out of options, i was recommended to send it back to Google but I don't want to do that unless it's absolutely necessary as a last resort.
I was just wondering if anyone is familiar with this issue or any suggestions as to what to do?
Thanks so much

Seems like a similar problem to what I'm having. I always just randomly lose reception. Reception is already really really bad for me, but it seems like it's whenever I pick up the phone the network goes out. It's really getting on my nerves. Most places in my house I get no reception. But it's the weirdest thing that happens. I can be sitting on the couch using my phone, and have no bars. But then I set the phone down on the couch to go grab something from the fridge and when I come back I'll have received a text message and I'll have like 2 bars! But then the second I pick the phone back up reception goes out again.
This has been going on for the last month for me, and it's especially bad at work but almost nowhere else.
I think (though I have no concrete evidence) that it's because of their ongoing 1900mhz refarm.
Someone should call tmo and find out.

yep..i'm starting to feel like it's 100% hardware related to the antenna. might have to contact google and see what's up. hopefully if i send it back they won't take a month to replace it haha
Sounds like a faulty antenna to me :\

I've experienced these problems on AT&T (MEdia Net, not DataPro) as well. It happens regardless of how good my signal is. I haven't experienced the other problems you are a time else mentioned.
On the NPR app, it results in some sort of error such that I have to reboot to get the NPR app working again. The app doesn't say something has gone wrong, but it won't load any audio and will hang after waiting.
The signal drops, then picks up again and goes straight to HSPA+:15. This happens to me on the road quite often and I just switch to onboard music rather than fiddling with my phone while driving. The issue has occurred a few times while in Maps, but thankfully I knew how to get back from where I navigated to.
EDIT: Just want to clarify to the poster below me that this occurs REGARDLESS of how good my signal is. It happens when I have better than -50 dBm (I think -70 gets full bars, although I've even seen full bars at -90!) so it can't just be a low signal issue.
I'm pretty sure this happens to all nexus 4s unfortunately. Anyways that is in a poor connection area had this happen.
This happens to me at home. Bounces from 0 to 3 bars constantly. But if I'm outside in an area with strong signal I never go below 3 bars no matter how I hold it.

Ive been having the same problems with my n4 in tmob. I get a lot of 3g and sometimes i get no bars. I hope its not a hardware issue. Im in many miami and ive seen a couple of threads about this

I don't think it's an antenna issue. It was happening on my Galaxy Nexus for a few weeks up until I got the Nexus 4, and prior to that I *never* experienced total signal loss like this.

The first couple weeks I had the N4, I wasn't experiencing any connection issues, but for some weird reason they started last week. It wasn't even fresh after I flashed a new ROM. I think perhaps it's a network issue that is somehow specific to our unique phone and plan combinations and our areas. Anyone using AT&T's MEdia Net plan in Georgia?
I think you guys may have gotten my issue a bit confused, what I'm trying to say is my signal fluctuates depending on location like normal, however only when I use apps that are solely dependent on internet connection, my entire network goes down.

Yeah that's what I'm encountering as well. I wonder what these other guys are talking about?
My network goes down regardless of whether I'm doing anything with the phone or not. I could have just the screen on and it'll be lying on the table and I'll see it go from 2 bars to empty and eventually back.
It's especially bad at work where I have terrible signal to begin with.
Forgot to add.. my coworker with an HTC 8x and another with a Galaxy Nexus are getting the same issues.
So, it's a network problem for sure. I'll post this on the tmo forums tomorrow and see if I can get any official word on the matter.

This exact thing happens to me using straight talk att Sim.. Right now, full bars to zero, then back. Sometimes it jumps to roaming, and seems to get "stuck" and I need to turn airplane mode on/off to fix it

I experienced something similar on my N4 and called T-Mobile tech support. They had me power off my phone and they "reprovisioned" or "reprogrammed" my data connection or something like that. It's been better since then.
Posted on t-mo forums, let's see if they can be of any help.

Please add on to the linked thread, the more attention we get on this issue the faster we'll get a solution, or at least an idea of what is causing it.

last night after midnight my phone suddenly couldn't get a signal from t-mobile. i thought i screwed it up, but then i took the sim and put it in my galaxy nexus and it had the same issue. so i went to bed and in the morning it was working fine. i suspect t-mobile was doing stuff to their network in my area
Having the exact same problem today in Manhattan near Bryant Park. Can't keep a stable signal at all and data is connecting only in bursts. Hopefully this will be fixed soon or I'll have to look for other options than Tmo and my N4

Stuck in 1x mode?

Hello everyone.
I just got my phone back from Samsung after it wouldn't power on, then had trouble getting it to stay connected long enough to activate. So, I brought it in to town, hooked in to wifi, and had no issues. Got the phone activated, waited for a while, updated the PRL and Profile, and waited around to see if it would start working for me. Unfortunately, it was still not working very well. Put on the 1x/3g mod to see if it was actually getting 3g. Found that it was not... Finally, I contacted sprint to see if they could help on tech support. He said he would contact the network people...
I was like, hmm... at different location now, checked at the sprint store, updated one of their phones PRLs, and it seemed to start running slowly too... so I downgraded my PRL to see if that would help, it did not. Finally, I put on the 00001 PRL really quickly to see if I could get 3g... seems it didn't leave sprint or the 1x.
So, put it back to the original... was wondering if anyone has some advice?
Thanks much.
UPDATE: So, the radio has been flickering on and off for data reception, went up to Green Bay today and it went into 4g, then 3g, then nothing for a while, then back again...
Right now it is on 4g again.
Is there any way to check if the radios may have something not working? I would say maybe it is just network upgrades, (really, really hoping this is the case), but then I would think that Sprint would have said something when I contacted them about there being upgrades....
Thanks.
Take it to a store and ask them to test the radios. They could be faulty.
Mines been acting the exact same way...altho mine has not had problems before needing to be sent to Samsung.
2 weeks ago it just started not going into 4g as much as it used to...and RANDOMLY totally dropping any data connection 10x a day. Literally no 3g/4g for 2+ minutes at a time..no amount of airplaine mode/restarts fixes it......its like im back to the SgS2 days.. ****im sick of Sprint/samsung

It's sprints fault, not samsung. I have the same data drop problems, especially around NYC/NJ. I've had the same issue on my previous S3. My GF has no such issues on her S4 or her previous S3, but she has AT&T. Chances are Sprint is doing something with the network in your area currently.
Try this
1 - update profile
2 - update prl
3 - open the dialer and enter ##72786#
Your phone will reboot and go thru the activation process
If that does not help, call sprint and find out if there are any network vision enhancements in progress for your area. Unfortunately when Sprint does their updates it gets REALLY BAD until they are done

Bad signal reception

I am desperately in need for some help with my phone.
The issue i have been having is bad cell reception. I used to have reception nearly everywhere and now, not so much. I know there is a problem because i used to have no bars to maybe max of 2 bars in church. And yes its not much, but at least it was something. A few months ago, idk what happened, but i noticed that i had no bars at all. And then a few other places where i go on regular basis started to show no signal at all.
My phone was rooted for a long time prior to that and i cant think of anything that i could have done to create this problem. So since i noticed it, i have tried numerous things to fix it. I have done full reset of my phone, i did activation reset. Tried different roms, updated URL, profile a few times. Nothing helped. Then i have decided to take it back to Sprint store thinking maybe they can help, but i would have to return it back to stock rom, so i did that, still didn't work. Same crappy cell reception, even tmobile on SGS4 works better side by side.
I even tried fully updating my phone since its what sprint representative will do anyways in their attempt to fix the problem and still no effect.
I am going to take this phone to sprint store in a few days, but i was really hoping someone here could help me out.
Its probably sprint "upgrading" the towers in your area. Especially since you said it began a few months back. Trust me it sucks for a few months but it will get better. You have to ride it out. And T-Mobile runs on a different network GSM so its not a good comparison.
What you could do and get another sprint phone and go to the same places and compare signal strength.
Sent from my SPH-L720 using Tapatalk
I don't think so. My dad has lg optimus g from sprint and when icompare them side but side like right now he has 5 to full 6 bars while i got zero.
The downs can't be that big even though he has different phone.
I too have the same problem. My daughter has a S3 with full bars and 4G. I have no bars and 3G. What gives.
So after waiting in the sprint store for two hours the tech guy told me that he does not have equipment to check if its my phone's fault, but when he looked up data usage of my phone at some specific towers near by, he did see that my phone had more drops then the marketed value. Which means that my phone has a on average worse cell reception then it should. But then again, he can not confirm it for sure because they dont have the appropriate equipment. Which is retarded, i went to a corporate store.
The best option he could do is replace the phone for 75$ (since i dont have sprint warranty). So now i am thinking about calling samsung to see if they will replace it fr free. The only downside of that is that i wont have a phone for a week or even more.
So I checked the PRL file on my daughters phone and installed in the same PRL file on my phone. No changes. I grabbed my son's S4 and he too has a crappy signal level. It must be the hardware.
:crying:
Yea this sucks. My friend has S3 t-mobile (i believe), and in his basement he gets 3 bars 4G while i got no service.

New phone LG G2 D800 - chronically bad signal issue

Hello xda. I need help.
The Issue: Bought a stock US LG G2 D800, unlocked (but AT&T branded) off a reseller on e bay back in May of 2015. The seller advertises their phones as new/unused. Long story short, the phone basically has been unusable to me for it's main function - to make/receive/maintain phone calls.
I've researched a ton online, and here on xda, but have yet to find a definitive solution for the G2. I first was trying to use the phone on a Tmobile service provider: Family Mobile. Then because of the crapped out signal reception, I tried other service providers because I thought the there was something up with Family Mobile. I tried - Metro PCS, Straight Talk, then finally straight AT&T. My signal fluctuates between 1 and 3 bars of service at home every 30 seconds to 1 minute with all of those service providers. At 1 bar, I'll either drop calls or can't carry on a conversation.
I've spent hours talking to customer service reps and changing my settings with no resolution only to finally put the last SIM card into my old BLU phone and immediately get at least 3 bars of signal at home. Every service provider stated my area of Southern California (I'm just east of Los Angeles) was well covered for voice and data LTE service. For years prior to getting the G2, I in fact had good service at home with my previous phones and most everywhere else (I had been with Tmobile Walmart Family Mobile for at least 4 years before getting the G2).
An AT&T Microcell signal booster at home works, but I need to use voice services everywhere else anybody else would, and the issue is apparent anywhere and everywhere. Once in a while, depending on where regionally I am, it will get full 5 bars of signal, but that is rare.
The phone has a 1 year warranty. I've sent it to LG for repair 3 times and they just give me the run around. First they replaced the camera, then they said they found no problem, finally they said it was a Flash Memory issue. I've read that they blacklist some phones after the first visit for repair.
I read all through this post but found no exact fix for US phones - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=46648526#post46648526
The seller sent me another new G2 phone, and guess what, same issue. The first phone was updated to 5.0.2. The replacement phone is still running 4.4.2. Yet the problem is the same, only that the 5.0.2 phone also has the GPS connectivity issue and the hot battery issue.
I still have both phones, although the seller asked me to send back the "bad" phone. From all I've read, the issue is either related to some D800's software or bad design of antenna. I saw the video on the GPS/Signal fix but tried it and that didn't do anything for me.
Some G2 owners from Europe and the Middle East have fixed their signal issues by rooting and going from there. I have never rooted a phone and don't have experience with flashing rom's and related, but I'm willing to learn. Does anyone have any knowledge of a US specific fix for this issue? I'll either stay with AT&T, or since I know Tmobile service actually works (and it's cheaper), I may go back to them, so if there is a software fix, it may be AT&T or Tmobile specific from what I've read.
Thanks.
ttt

Inconsistent 3G & LTE performance, defective unit?

Don't get me wrong, I love this phone despite the bugs. Software bugs.
However I've a serious issue regarding the 3G/LTE module. 3G/LTE performances are not consistent at all.
Sometimes it goes well (chatting, sending pictures, even testing the speed with a speed test) but other times the connection "hangs" and I'm not able to do anything for seconds or minutes (download pictures from whatsapp, sending text with telegram or open web pages). After that time, the connection seems to work again. When this Is happening, phone is at full signal.
Please note that I never had these issues with all my previous phones (Nexux 5, Nexus 5X, OnePlus 3T) with the same SIM card and under the same conditions (places, time of the day). I've performed all the updates available (software version 4.5.4) and cleaned the cache many times using the recovery.
I'm asking your help: is there some debug feature I can activate in order to see what is happening and understand the problem? Many thanks.
What carrier do you have?
ATT had to load my phone into there system. I'm in Seattle, WA USA
After they did that LTE has been perfect!

Since I'm on ATT and I might get a OP5 I gotta ask how you went about this. Because I can see me telling customer service this and them not having the slightest clue what I'm talking about.

Basically you'd call in and ask to register your phone. It's not actually necessary but they do this anyway when you ask for a replacement sim. All they do is get your IMEI off your phone and add it to your account. Though with the 3 it already showed up during use. I don't think it matters much at all. Haven't had an issue with the 5 in Wisconsin, Minnesota or Nevada. I've simply plugged in the sim to this phone and went on my way since day 1.

Just to give you the big picture, I'll include everything that happened when I got my OP5 in terms of registering the phone on AT&T's network...
I got the OP5 and I came from a OPO, so I needed a new nano SIM card. I went to AT&T and they gave me a new sim but they were not able to get LTE signal at all. I was impatient and really didn't want to wait around so the rep and myself came up with excuses on why it wasn't working so I could get out of there. HSPA+ was the best I could get and it was about ~5Mbps up/down and I was happy with that for now.
I got home and decided to call in. Usual phone tree hell with AT&T began but I eventually got a level 2 Android technician. I will note the default values within the phone tree took me to iPhone support. Anyhow, the level two technician verified that my phone was not getting LTE. Furthermore, the device was not registered in the system at all. He gave me two options (which from the sounds of things, he wasn't supposed to do) 1.) I could just deal with the HSPA+ connection and it could take up to 5 days to fully load the phone but my phone would work perfect in terms of service/coverage/data rates (HSPA+) or 2.) He could load a Samsung S7 mock profile to my phone and it would more than likely work fine but don't hold him accountable for it. He said if it were him, he'd go for the S7 mock profile so I went with it.
Immediately I got an LTE signal and he had me reboot my phone. I've zero issues as he figured would happen and everything has been perfect. I got a confirmation text message from AT&T saying my phone will be loaded by July 6th and originally the technician told me around July 14th.
Anyhow, that was just my experience and a good experience at that. Of course, popping a sim out and back into a new phone would be ideal but a non-contracted AT&T device has to get loaded at some point and time I guess, right?
Cheers!

Did you try rebooting the phone before calling? That is what happened with my Moto X Pure and no one knew what to do at the store. The manager came out and rebooted it and it got LTE and worked fine after that.

You mean, did I remember to turn it off and back on again? Yes, we tried that. Haha
It wasn't until the AT&T tech adding the profile to the network that it works. It was instant too.
