SM-G900V Debloat List? - Verizon Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm going to debloat my 900V but I want to know if there is a debloat list anywhere that might give me further insight into this. Thank you.

There are 5 or 6 different scripts already written to do this same thing.
Elliwigy made a script call "The Purge" that is pretty safe. xboxexpert wrote an adb batch that does a good job.
I would just search the boards and do the reading. The s5 sucks when you remove the wrong things. I experienced a lot of trouble when I tried to debloat further then then other devs, so just use the premade work, you won't want to spend days breaking TouchWiz over and over again.

[Q] S4 questions please help
Hi all I'm new to android and have been reading a ton
But have a few question?
1. I have a bell s4 Smg-i337 with latest firmware (I believe moto chopper will not work)
But think cw autoroot root method works
Am I correct or how can I root with latest firmware
2. If I install GE rom will it use less storage
(Right now Touchwiz only give my phone like 9.2gb but I read the GE editions s4 doesn't use up as much space)
So will flashing a rom free up space ?
3. Is removing bloat ware bad previously I would just freeze the app but I'm curious about removing it (I read somewhere that if u remove it it screws up ur phone for updates ?
Is that true?
That's all for now thank you

All 3 of your questions can be found in previous threads already. There's a thread about what bloatware is safe to remove. Also a thread about which ROM is better for space and speed. And rooting

My brains is a little overloaded with info just trying to get some basic answer to some question?
1. I personally don't know
2. No all the partitions will remain the same. To repartition could be dangerous and is often best left alone.
3. The stock ROM scans itself at every boot to make sure everything is there and a padlock boot loader animation will appear. Uninstalling the wrong apps could delete necessary files for other apps and features so they are best frozen on stock, that is what I believe personally.
Ps next time use the search function.

Wait you have bell s4 i337? Not i337m? I was under the impression that only at&t and sprint have i337 :/
Anyways yes cw auto root is the way to go. But make sure your build doesn't end in MF3. I think at&t i337 have a locked boot loader, just be careful that you don't flash Roms if you have mf3. However you can still root using cw root even with a locked boot loader.
How did u manage to get an i337 s4 on bell network?
A custum ROM will give u about 9.7gb of free space. The main reason why people like to flash Roms is to get rid of TW, no bloatware, snappy phone, battery life, and sweet features eg halo))).
Good luck!!

Little confused about question 2
Tylorw1 says portions stay the same with installing custom rom
But eagertolearn say custom rom will give u 9.7gb of free space
So which is it ?
Does custom rom repatrion to use only what it needs or does it just replace the rom in the memory Samsung used up?

9.7 is what it is partitioned on stock, the other 5.5gb is the system partition so it is one and the same. All it does is install the ROM in the partition, not repartition.

Lastly I was aware of making sure of deleting bloatware and making sure it safe to remove
But no one answered if removing it affect updating
1. Say an update came out and I remove a bunch of bloatware apps. Will I have any issues updating ?
2. What do most people like to do just freeze or remove.
3. Is there any benefit of removing over freezing ? Since u don't gain any space with removing does it have any advantage?
??

Have searched there is talk about these topic but don't answer my specific question
Instead of constantly saying search the forum (WHICH I HAVE DONE)
It would take 1 minute to just answer my questions if you know the answer
That's why I have taken to the forums for help
Seems I'm it picked the wrong forum to take to as all the staff does in here instead of taking 1 minute to answer a question
They constantly tell ur to search (WHICH again I have done and learned a lot Now I'm at a point I have a few "specific" question that I can't seem to find on the forum

I will try and help - this is just an attempt and not proven
1. Say an update came out and I remove a bunch of bloatware apps. Will I have any issues updating ?
-use common sense, removing AT&T Family Map or YouTube probably will not have any impact. Removing something that you dont have a clear definition of like for example BandService or CapabilityManagerService may cause serious issues.
2. What do most people like to do just freeze or remove.
-I doubt most people vote on such things. I freeze myself, if something doesnt work, I can unfreeze easier than I can go and find the replacement app out on the internet
3. Is there any benefit of removing over freezing ? Since u don't gain any space with removing does it have any advantage?
-remove = gain space at expense of if you need it in the future, you will need to make a task of it
-freeze = dont reclaim space but have safety net of immediately unfreezing and getting back functionality
Suggestion: How about freezing until you have a space issue, then deal with what to do at that point?
Before you freeze/remove, google the app first and see if some poor [email protected]@rd is trying figure out how to fix what he just eliminated
Good luck - have fun - be careful

Another reason to freeze is if you remove an app and yet another updates comes your way, the app will be placed back on your phone. If that app already existed and was frozen, will remain frozen with the next update. At least that's what happens when you update a ROM.

Moving from iPhone to Galaxy s4

I will be getting my S4 very soon, and am quite excited. I've been on too much of a restriction from the iPhone and wasn't allowed to do as much, or most of what android devices can do.
What i am asking is not How to root the device, because there are enough of those topics here, but of which tweaks and apps i should install!
#1 priority would be to get rid of all that junk info that comes with the device i suppose.
So please help me with choosing the best tweaks and such.
Thanks!! :good:
Oh and i forgot. I dont care about any syncing backing up or filemanager apps!
If you're number one priority is to remove to remove junk that comes with the phone you should pay attention to rooting. With out root you won't be able to remove much of it. Pay attention to the different firmware, mf3, mj9, mdl. Each has a way to root but they're different and not interchangeable. Mf3 and even more so mj9 are restrictive on what you can do with your device.
The best thing you can do is read a lot and then ask questions before you get your phone

After rooting, I would recommend Titanium Backup. It will allow you to freeze the apps that you don't want running and the OS will allow you to hide the icon. It isn't actually uninstalling the program but for all intensive purposes it's gone.
Tasker is a great app that will automate a number of functions for you (and show you how much restriction you've actually been living with). You can google the app as there are hundreds of profiles available.
there is no safe root method for the mj9 build

[Q] need permissive...help

Hi folks,
I need a stock/near stock kernel (for 900P NE5 firmware) with SE set to permissive. I need it to be able to run my Appradio.
I don't care about messing with the clock speeds or voltage or anything!
I was running the Governaa but that's ND2 and seems to not be getting revisions.
So can anyone help me out? Maybe change the stock kernel over or tell me exactly how (what programs I need and what lines to change)
I can upload what ever files needed, just tell me what and where they are.
All I need is permissive
Thanks

I can only assume that you didn't look at the Sprint forum at all. Or do a search, because everything you want is in clearly labeled threads near the top of the forums. It's a good habit to look first before posting. Often you can get an immediate answer and it lets you pose more informed questions.
Lots of firmware and kernels to choose from. You could simply keep your existing NE5 (if you want), root it and then add a custom kernel. You need a custom kernel to gain Permissive status.
It's unclear what you mean by seems to not be getting revisions.? That sounds like you might mean OTA updates. It's not smart to allow automatic updates if you have a rooted phone and custom kernel. An update is likely to remove your root and other grief. If you really feel that you need automatic updates, you should buy and use either Mobile Odin Pro or Super Su Pro, both of which have features that try to retain or restore root after an update. That is not a guarantee that you will keep root, but it works pretty well.
The thread below has links to the firmware and custom ROMs (if you wish) or just to the rooting guides and custom kernels.

Actually I did/do look in the sprint section, all the time. I had just go done going through every available kernel before I posted this. So maybe I wasn't clear on what I'm after, or maybe you shouldnt be so quick to assume...
Clearly the phone is already rooted if I'm looking to change kernels.
What I meant by " seems to not be getting revisions" was in reference to the "Governaa" kernel I mentioned IN THE SAME SENTENCE. Sorry if that was not clear.
That kernel has not been revised for newer firmware so I cannot use it. Nothing I said has anything to do with OTA updates.
All of the available kernels are way more involved than I need/want.
So for anyone that would like to be helpful, and is unsure what I am looking for: I need a stock/near stock kernel with SE status set to permissive. I don't need/want any bells and whistles
Alternative: guidance on what files/code I would need to alter to get stock kernel to permissive (if that is even possible)
MODS feel free to move this to the sprint section if you feel it's better suited there

What you want is clear like mud. You are making lots of unstated assumptions. You did not say that your phone was already rooted, nor does it follow that it would already be rooted if you were looking to change kernels. You don't understand what or how permissive works.
And you (still) didn't explain what you meant by seems to not be getting revisions. You didn't even clarify that "Governaa" was the name of a kernel in your original post. And you assume that we are familiar with this specific kernel and how that might relate to "getting revisions", rather than simply stating what the issue is.
What is clear is that helping you further would be challenging, so I'll leave you to your own devices. Nevertheless, everything that you need is in the thread that I linked to. If you still don't want to read a few posts there in your own best interests.. well that's your choice.
.
So if any one that isn't a giant Dbag, can help me I'd appreciate that. If what I'm looking for is not clear I'd be very happy to try to explain better. (Just ask instead of calling me dumb and lazy)
As far as not knowing what or how, ya you're right. What I do know is I need it in order for my app radio to work with my phone and i know it's in the kernel. Other than that I know nothing nor do I care to

S7 Edge What Next

Hi guys, as title, I have the Exynos S7 Edge, go easy on me as I have moved over from IOS and so glad I did. I have a lot of experience in jailbreaking I devices etc. So, here goes... I have decided to root my new phone using the Odin software, and it was successful. However upon the root I was browsing must have apps files etc after root, so I merely installed Twrp and Xposed but basically just the apks. But now I am seeing a lot of people using flashing etc to install these apps, I'm confused as to the correct steps to take to use twrp and xposed right after a root. Also, I am reading about the dm verity conflicting with my phone.. Could someone shed some light on my next steps or could explain what I need to do. I'm tech savvy but as I say Android is a new experience for me and I'm ready to learn what I can.
All help is very welcome and I appreciate you taking time to read this. Many thanks and I apologise if I sound like a complete noob and you are shaking your head at me right now lol.
Cheers.

[MODS & FIXES] G955U/G955U1 SamPWND List

This is an effort to consolidate fixes, tweaks and mods specific to the rooted G955U/G955U1 SnapDragon S8+ via SamPWND.
The initial release of root for this version by the development, contributions and tireless efforts from elliwigy, Harry44, akiraO1, BotsOne, GSMCHEN and jrkruse are obviously being enjoyed by many, as is evident by the visits to elliwigy's release page.
Unfortunately, that thread is in dire need of clean-up because it has become a hodgepodge of redundant rooting questions, helpful answer posts (and complaints), all infused with a few mods and tweaks mentioned.
So let's share what can be done (and what cannot thus far) with this rooted version.
Please (!!!), already be aware of which device you have, and if SamPWND works on your device. "How do / Can I root my..." questions simply don't belong here!
Let's try to keep it clean in here by looking around the forum first before posting, but also by being helpful and not condescending to those of us enjoying root who are perhaps not as knowledgeable about such matters as others.
Some of the most common questions being asked, and their answers from that thread
Flashfire infinitely spinning for part 2 root steps
Turn on airplane mode
Is there a fix for the 80% battery max capacity?
No, and it seems unlikely at this stage. Make yourself happy and hide your battery percentage.
Green/glitchy screen
Most (including myself) have resolved or heavily mitigated this via the AQI1 fw posted recently.
S8+: https://forum.xda-developers.com/ga...sampwnd-root-green-screen-corruption-t3673810
S8: https://forum.xda-developers.com/ga...ampwnd-green-screen-corruption-fixed-t3673782
Does Magisk work with this root?
No.
Does Xposed work on this root?
Unofficially yes, search for unofficial Xposed s8, it will be in the device forums. Edit-or use this link: https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s8+/how-to/unofficial-xposed-guide-snapdragon-s8-t3663728
Can I install custom roms?
No, the BL is still locked. The last I read is there are some ideas around how we might achieve an unlock, but nothing so far. There's is the modified stock rom available in the OP of the root thread that provides csc and superSU but beyond that, no.
Screen rotation is messed up / reversed
You downloaded the wrong step 1 files. Try again for your device (plus or non-plus)
I can't think of any other recurring questions, but I've been keeping up to date on that post for more of the 318-or-so pages, and there's a lot of other useful information held within them. Worth a read.
Awesome first response!
So can I start with this:
"Unofficial Xposed'...
Where are the where's & how's located for our specific device, along with the yeahs & no's about what Xposed can do? I've looked and read, but there really is no clear post (that I have found) saying that our model can (or can't) DL Xposed and make things work.
Out of level 8, I'm probably a level 2 coming from rooting back in the days of the first Droid LOL! So I figure if we can keep things down to a level 3 or 4 here, we can learn and teach about WHY certain things won't work.
I'm also very interested in the capabilities of our camera. I used to use chdk to hack Cannon P&S cameras, and despite all my hours doing so, the hardware could never deliver night shots like this phone!

You may have read my post just before I edited it to add the links. The link I posted for the s8 is where all if the Xposed info is held for our devices. I am currently running it with the latest fw I also linked to with no problems. That thread also contains a few modules the OP has verified working. I am currently only using it for a couple of tweaks from "all my.." and xVoice++. I also was utilizing this Xposed version before flashing the fw mentioned, and it's worked perfectly for both. I can't remember which fw I was on previously though.
regarding camera mods, I made an attempt the moment I got the phone to replace the stock camera with a ported pixel, before researching how to do it properly these days. Wound up with crashing camera warnings every 30 seconds and my backup wouldn't restore properly in titanium and had to reset completely and start fresh.
I used to root back in the Motorola Droid (original) days, when root required 30-or-so lines of commands, I'm sure you remember funny how we've come full circle. I swapped to iPhone for the iPhone 4, enjoyed a bootrom exploit for several iOS versions, and stuck with apple up until just last weekend so it's been a while since I've been on the root scene myself, much has changed indeed. It's the first Android device (S8+ here) that actually made me want to switch away from apple, and I don't yet regret it.

Considering less than one hour after I replied with the common questions and answers, someone asked about flashfire on page like 318 again, I'm sure this post is pretty low on priority for the people who tend to ask the questions.
