S7 Edge What Next - Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Questions and Answers

Hi guys, as title, I have the Exynos S7 Edge, go easy on me as I have moved over from IOS and so glad I did. I have a lot of experience in jailbreaking I devices etc. So, here goes... I have decided to root my new phone using the Odin software, and it was successful. However upon the root I was browsing must have apps files etc after root, so I merely installed Twrp and Xposed but basically just the apks. But now I am seeing a lot of people using flashing etc to install these apps, I'm confused as to the correct steps to take to use twrp and xposed right after a root. Also, I am reading about the dm verity conflicting with my phone.. Could someone shed some light on my next steps or could explain what I need to do. I'm tech savvy but as I say Android is a new experience for me and I'm ready to learn what I can.
All help is very welcome and I appreciate you taking time to read this. Many thanks and I apologise if I sound like a complete noob and you are shaking your head at me right now lol.
Cheers.

N00B's VIDEO GUIDES TO ROOT, UNROOT, AND FLASH A ROM ON THE GS3 (i9300)(galaxy s iii)

So you have decided to shift over to the rooting side of Android and it is a good thing. Now you are a n00b (don't worry, nobody knew this before they tried it for the first time, not even me), and are trying to find easy guides to follow to do some general rooting stuff. Now, I hate reading, and I suppose so do you, and maybe you are not even reading this , so I have added my video tutorials from my YouTube channel, www.youtube.com/Stickycover, down below for you to follow me, as I modify my own device. Trust me, I have done these things many times before and know what I'm doing.
Hit the THANKS button! :good:
First thing, ROOT!
Of course there is no point talking about rooting and all the modifications you can do to your Android device, but it is of no use if you don't have root. So we'll take the first but the most important step, rooting your Samsung Galaxy S3.
Next learn how to UNROOT, just in case you need to do so.
Note- This unroots your device and does bring it back to stock firmware and stock kernel, in short, like out of the box, but has a problem. To get the custom binary flash counter to 0, you'll need to do some extra steps using Triangle Away, Google it.
Now on to the fun, to learn to do basic modifications on your device.
To demonstrate this, I'm going to show you guys how to flash the CyanogenMod ROM, which is one of the most sought after ROMs on any device.
FLASH CYANOGENMOD 10.1 (JB 4.2)
I hope these videos do help you to get the basic idea of rooting and what possibilities it holds. Feel free to ask questions here on the comment sections of the YouTube videos.
Disclaimer- I have done my best to explain every step and hope that following them should not harm your device but whatever happens to your device is your responsibility. I take no responsibility to whatever might happen to your device.
thank you :good:

Give me your feedback, did this post really help you figure your way out in any of the processes? Which one?
Am just going down this path and wanted a quick intro; lazy to read, this is the best help I could ask for. Thanks!

[Q] Just upgraded software on Galaxy S5 SM-G900V to 4.4.2, and my Root is now gone.

As the title said, I was rooted perfectly fine until I did my software update to 4.4.2. I had used Towelroot, and it was incredibly simple. But now when I try, Towelroot says "This phone is not compatible."
I reset my phone to factory settings, but apparently it doesn't roll back the software updates because I am still getting the same error.
Is there currently a root available for this? Preferably a program that is simple to use?
I am inexperienced with all of this, and if there is a step by step guide as to how to safely re-root my phone I would greatly appreciate it. I'm sorry if this question has been asked before but I couldn't find anything that is exactly like my case and a lot of the threads aren't step by step they assume that I know how to do a specific thing (such as flashing kernel etc).
I am hoping to hear from someone with a solution, and I greatly appreciate anyone who takes the time to help me out!
Thank you!
---EDIT---
Solved!
For anyone who has had the same problem as me, PLEASE WATCH THIS VIDEO (in the second post, first link. I can't post outside links because I'm a new user) http://forum.xda-developers.com/veri...oesnt-t2838729
It is absolutely incredible, I'm so glad I found it. It walks you through flashing your kernel and reinstalling root access. Made the entire process easy to follow, and I had NO DATA LOSS!!!
This is the Nexus 5 forum, not S5.

If you're trying to keep root, I think there's a thread for that. If you don't care about root, you can go to the sammobile website for images, odin needs to be installed on a pc, put your phone in the correct mode (probably power+home+volume up) flash the image... or just use OTA. There's a thread for everything. I'm a long time reader and small amount poster. This should not be a difficult task to find "the droids you are looking for."
Be sure to reboot (maybe reset) after lollipop update...otherwise you'll possibly have a few glitches.
Yeah I got most of the how to put phone into correct mode and download the firmware. Is Odin self explanatory? Meaning connect the phone. Select the firmware and the software does the rest?
Thanks
Oh yea no root. I'm on 4.4.4. Just wanna update to see how much better if any it is.
also I'm on vzw note 3. But using on tmobile with the band4 enabled. I'm hoping lollipop update doesn't block the band4 or anything? Can anyone chime in on this?

Help with rooting

Hey i just bought a s7 Edge and im wanting to root it. Its been a min since ive done any rooting. So im a lil lost i guess you can say. I've tried looking stuff up nut i cant find anything about how to rooting my build with is PI3. Ive also seen that ppl have been saying that root is causing lagging issues on the phone. So im wanting to root this phone and hopefully able to run a rom or stock root, debloated etc with no issues. IF anyone cant point me in the right direction it would be appreciated. Thanks in advance
First follow this guide to get root.
After that follow this guide to fix a lot of the issues with it including lag, battery life, and smoothness.
If you have other questions go ahead and ask too.

[MODS & FIXES] G955U/G955U1 SamPWND List

This is an effort to consolidate fixes, tweaks and mods specific to the rooted G955U/G955U1 SnapDragon S8+ via SamPWND.
The initial release of root for this version by the development, contributions and tireless efforts from elliwigy, Harry44, akiraO1, BotsOne, GSMCHEN and jrkruse are obviously being enjoyed by many, as is evident by the visits to elliwigy's release page.
Unfortunately, that thread is in dire need of clean-up because it has become a hodgepodge of redundant rooting questions, helpful answer posts (and complaints), all infused with a few mods and tweaks mentioned.
So let's share what can be done (and what cannot thus far) with this rooted version.
Please (!!!), already be aware of which device you have, and if SamPWND works on your device. "How do / Can I root my..." questions simply don't belong here!
Let's try to keep it clean in here by looking around the forum first before posting, but also by being helpful and not condescending to those of us enjoying root who are perhaps not as knowledgeable about such matters as others.
Some of the most common questions being asked, and their answers from that thread
Flashfire infinitely spinning for part 2 root steps
Turn on airplane mode
Is there a fix for the 80% battery max capacity?
No, and it seems unlikely at this stage. Make yourself happy and hide your battery percentage.
Green/glitchy screen
Most (including myself) have resolved or heavily mitigated this via the AQI1 fw posted recently.

Does Magisk work with this root?
No.
Does Xposed work on this root?
Unofficially yes, search for unofficial Xposed s8, it will be in the device forums. Edit-or use this link: https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s8+/how-to/unofficial-xposed-guide-snapdragon-s8-t3663728
Can I install custom roms?
No, the BL is still locked. The last I read is there are some ideas around how we might achieve an unlock, but nothing so far. There's is the modified stock rom available in the OP of the root thread that provides csc and superSU but beyond that, no.
Screen rotation is messed up / reversed
You downloaded the wrong step 1 files. Try again for your device (plus or non-plus)
I can't think of any other recurring questions, but I've been keeping up to date on that post for more of the 318-or-so pages, and there's a lot of other useful information held within them. Worth a read.
Awesome first response!
So can I start with this:
"Unofficial Xposed'...
Where are the where's & how's located for our specific device, along with the yeahs & no's about what Xposed can do? I've looked and read, but there really is no clear post (that I have found) saying that our model can (or can't) DL Xposed and make things work.
Out of level 8, I'm probably a level 2 coming from rooting back in the days of the first Droid LOL! So I figure if we can keep things down to a level 3 or 4 here, we can learn and teach about WHY certain things won't work.
I'm also very interested in the capabilities of our camera. I used to use chdk to hack Cannon P&S cameras, and despite all my hours doing so, the hardware could never deliver night shots like this phone!

You may have read my post just before I edited it to add the links. The link I posted for the s8 is where all if the Xposed info is held for our devices. I am currently running it with the latest fw I also linked to with no problems. That thread also contains a few modules the OP has verified working. I am currently only using it for a couple of tweaks from "all my.." and xVoice++. I also was utilizing this Xposed version before flashing the fw mentioned, and it's worked perfectly for both. I can't remember which fw I was on previously though.
regarding camera mods, I made an attempt the moment I got the phone to replace the stock camera with a ported pixel, before researching how to do it properly these days. Wound up with crashing camera warnings every 30 seconds and my backup wouldn't restore properly in titanium and had to reset completely and start fresh.
I used to root back in the Motorola Droid (original) days, when root required 30-or-so lines of commands, I'm sure you remember funny how we've come full circle. I swapped to iPhone for the iPhone 4, enjoyed a bootrom exploit for several iOS versions, and stuck with apple up until just last weekend so it's been a while since I've been on the root scene myself, much has changed indeed. It's the first Android device (S8+ here) that actually made me want to switch away from apple, and I don't yet regret it.
nice concept.. just a forewarning tho, these posts typically go in general discussion..

Thanks! And it's alright if it gets moved there so long as it still helps everyone out and you wizards walk through once in a while to bless us all with a bit of wisdom. LOL!
Meanwhile, for as long as it's allowed to stay here, it might serve well to keep distractions off your release thread.

Considering less than one hour after I replied with the common questions and answers, someone asked about flashfire on page like 318 again, I'm sure this post is pretty low on priority for the people who tend to ask the questions.
I just finished rooting my sprint s8+ with sampwned. I installed my 256gb micro sdcard and I get the kernel panic reboot to error screen. Am I unable to use the sdcard? I'm scouring xda for any info. Just looking for a little help if anyone knows anything I don't. Thanks.
Nice idea OP.
Some fixes may be had by using the @partcyborg ROM for S8. It is in the S8 ROMs, Kernels, ... Forum https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s8/development/root-partcyborgrom-aqi6-deodexed-t3702988
For the S8+ @jrkruse has some good info in the S8+ Verizon, ROMs, Kernels, ... Forum. https://forum.xda-developers.com/verizon-galaxy-s8+/development
