Google store sending refurbished replacements - Nexus 6 General

I just got off the phone with Google store support about getting my Nexus 6 replaced because of some issues and the rep assured me that the replacement device was going to be brand new and not refurbished. When I got the email from them with the link to order a replacement it said "Your replacement will be a refurbished device which means it has been reconditioned to strict factory standards and like-new conditions to operate according to its original factory specifications".
When I go to the link in the email it takes me to a checkout page which also says Nexus 6 32GB (refurbished). I called them back about this and now they tell me that they only send out refurbished replacements which is bs because I've gotten a couple of replacements from them and they have always been brand new. Anyone else had this experience?

Nope

its normal for them to only send refurbished devices later on in a devices life. at first, they are only new, because no old exist. as people send them back, they start sending only refurbushed devices. they should be in very good condition. if not, then id complain.

Yeah I guess that's what I'll have to do. Its just that every single time I've gotten a replacement from them over the last almost 3 years its been a new device so I just thought it was very odd

I just found that out as well. Was arranging a replacement with Google, and an email containing the following line came through:
I have ordered the replacement, which clearly says "refurbished" there, and I guess I can inspect it and see if it's any good before sending my faulty one back.
Quote:
We can go ahead and issue you a replacement for your Nexus 6. Important things to keep in mind:
Important: Keep your charger and accessories, as your replacement device won't come with any accessories.
Your replacement device will be a refurbished device. That means that it has been reconditioned to strict factory standards and like-new condition to operate according to its original factory specifications.
After receiving your replacement, please return your item using the attached RMA within 14 calendar days.
Your item must be returned in like-new condition.
Google may deduct any loss in value of any items returned, if the loss is the result of unnecessary handling by you.
The attached shipping label has your return tracking number. Once you drop off your package, you can follow the tracking number to see when it's been received at our warehouse.

I recently tried replacing a bad nexus 6 I purchased on swappa and google tried to charge me full price for a refurbished nexus 6. They said they were adding $100 for as warranty fee. I ended up canceling that offer and sending it back to the swappa seller.

i replaced a nexus 7, in 2012, and got a refurbished model. it turned out way better than the original.

If it works and looks good what's the problem? This is typical of most RMAs for pretty much every company I've dealt with. With few exceptions. The alternative is paying for a new phone or continue to deal with a broken one.
They could put a refurb in a new box and you wouldn't know the difference.

I warranty-replaced my Nexus 5 late last year. The one I received was refurbed, but in pristine condition, like it just came off of an assembly line. And remember that refurbs are usually tested before being put into shippable stock. New items go right from the factory line into a box.
Refurbished is not a bad thing.

I never had a problem with refurbished. All refurbs are usually inspected before shipment. New is spot checked.

My refurb from Motorola, the Qi wireless charging doesn't work
Now I have to send it back again.

The good thing about all this is, it should mean the new nexus is on the horizon, at least with the nexus 5, they didnt start sending out redurbs until the were about to release the new nexus.

I for once wouldn't mind refurbished devices. As long as it's been returned to factory conditions.
However mine clearly hasn't.

And that's one of the rubs. Functional factory condition isn't new condition. I'm sure they'll replace it but it's still a pain in the arse.

They sent you the extended-battery model, silly.

Just got a refurbished one and looks/works great. No complaints.

GT-I9100 Crashing

Got this today and found it a great phone until it just randomly started crashing.
At the time I hadn't rooted it or anything, I was just setting things up like my email and adding contacts when all of a sudden (on google account) the phone just froze and I had to pull the battery out to restart it.
At first I chalked it up to it warming up so I turned down the brightness and whatever was using power excessively.
Now it pretty much restarts anytime I use the keyboard, sometimes it even restarts within a minute of me switching it back on.
I've now reset it to factory settings and even rooted it to try get to the bottom of the problem but I am not even getting a chance to look.
At this rate I am going unroot it and then go back to Carphone Warehouse and just give the phone back in and ask for a refund, a real pity cause I did a search through google and these forums and found no reports of anything similar.
Some information from the About Section:
Model Number: GT-I9100
Android Version: 2.3.3
Baseband Version: I9100XXKDH
Build Number: GINGERBREAD.XWKDD
Any help will be greatly appreciated, thank you in advance to anyone who can shed any light on this issue.
There must be something wrong with your phone. Ask for an exchange? I think CPW doesn't offer refund policy, that's what they told me.
Maybe reset device and try to use no Google account and do some intensive stuff(to pass the Google account & stuff like that, when you're on Android-logo screen with "Change language" click once at the 4 corners) as that is the only thing I can see software-wise.
Otherwise, what temperature is it where you live?
I was playing a game on my sgs2 before and it got very warm as in hot around camera area on back
if you your in UK 28 days faulty return for full refund or exchange
I just tried restoring to factory settings and did as EleCtrOx666 suggested. It did nothing, in fact it got stuck and rebooted as I was clicking through setup, I think something is wrong with the touch screen itself from my symptoms.
Temperature around here is maximum 20degrees centigrade, I am in England after all.
I even tried using the google search on the front screen and that got stuck within 3letters.
Tomorrow I will be heading back to the CPW I bought it from to get a refund or replacement at the very least. I hope they do not come up with the "we'll send it to be fixed" resolution.
This is ridiculous, I've been looking forward to getting this phone and yet I end up with the only duff one I've heard of
Thank you everyone
Dont take any poop of them
You want a new 1 or a full refund
Give them the sales of goods act "fit for the purpose" ....always works even if its not relevant
I agree, exchange or refund, none of that sending off for repair stuff.
CPW told me they'll not be accepting a refund, only exchange. Same goes to P4u.

Thing that bothers me is, if they don't have one in stock I don't want to be waiting around for a couple of weeks before I get a phone. As said I've been looking forward to this phone a while but I am not gonna wait around forever.

Dude we are in the UK, the law is on your side despite what they may want to say to you in the store. Just stick to your gun if you want a refund: http://whatconsumer.co.uk/do-shops-have-to-give-me-my-money-back/
Even when there is a notice in the shop stated that they've stop their refund policy?
What is the exact date of refund or exchange policy? Might want to exchange mine if my battery life still bad.

Right some good news, went into CPW today and they basically just swapped my phone over no questions asked. This one is noticeably faster and hasn't hung up on me whatsoever, fingers crossed I won't have to worry again.
Rather funny as the guy said how is it possible, hadn't had any back in. Then he switches it on only for it to hang on the startup screen and reboot.
Thank you everyone for the advice, sorry my first post had to be a rather ****ty one but I shall be hanging around and absorbing any information I can
Great stuff bro. Hope this one isn't a lemon and you enjoy the device. No go test it to make sure it works properly.
BTW, what firmware version does it have out of the box?
Is everyone box seal been opened before when you first bought it?
Nope, box was seal with a black security strip.

My seal was broken instore by shop assistant even tho I told her twice not to do it...only 1 left or else I would have swapped it.
P.s. Glad to hear you got it all sorted Protok.
My box was opened too by shop assistant. Not in front of me but when he bring the box out i saw it was already open so i ask him did he have another sealed box, he say all the box were open to check whether the phone was inside. Hmm.. mine from CPW
@intratech - where did u get yours?

A500 LCD screen cracked, everything else is fine.

Bought this about 10 days ago. Its been in its case since i brought it home. Hasn't left the house and it sits on my computer desk when I'm not using it. I live alone so no one else could have touched it. I haven't dropped it, sat on it, or used it as a frisbee.
I went to turn it on to show a friend and I found my screen like this:

The digitizer itself is fine. Touch screen works perfect and I can still do everything. No scratches on the body, no signs of anything on the case. Any idea what could cause this? I find it weird this would happen. Of course it has to be the most expensive part of the tablet.
Could I try taking it back to Best Buy and see if I can get it exchanged? Try doing a warranty claim through Acer? Or am I SOL and have to buy a new one? I'd replace the LCD myself but I did not find any replacement screens available yet.
I'm thinking somehow I may have flexed it a little bit, dont know how but I read that being a possibility. I didnt buy any accidental coverage through Best Buy. But I can still do Squaretrade, but would need to wait 30 days before I could file a claim.
If you paid with cc check with your cc company most good cards especially amex cover 90 days of theft damage. I buy all my electronics with my amex because of 90 day accidental damage and theft protection and they double manufacturers warranty up to a year. Very easy to file a claim much easier than my mastercard. Good luck.
Should have said I paid with my banks Visa Debit Card
That sucks
I dropped my Iconia down the stairs 2 months ago and almost crapped myself. It went in movie like slow motion. I bought the device from amazon and had only had it 3 days at the time. I told the guy what happened and have a great buying track record with amazon and they returned it and shipped out a new one as soon as they got posetion. Sorry for your trouble. The only thing I can say is try to find a new screen or "bricked" device on ebay. I grabbed one for my wife for $210.00 on ebay and all I had to do was recover the device.
Good luck

Go back to Best Buy. Leave the tablet at home.
Find the rep who sold it to you. Tell him your wife/husband/etc though it would be a good idea to get the BB insurance because you have kids/dog/nephews/etc in the house.
The rep gets perks for selling those insurance plans. He/she should be more than willing to ring one up for you since you're within 14 days. Should cost you about $100.
Then, magically, bring it back to the Geek Squad a few days later and have it sent for repairs. Most likely, like mine, they'll call you and let you come by and pick up a new one.
Thanks for the suggestion, I work with 4 people who used to work at Best Buy and they said all the managers in my area are experienced 5+ years and would want to see the device before they would do it
Looks like I'll be buying SquareTrade and wait til mid-October before I file a claim.

I believe they want the purchase order number off that email. Only the original purchaser can RMA the device but as long as you have that original email anyone should be able to return it for an RMA. Without it you are screwed and can only do a warranty repair through LG.
Their gonna do the replacement with the IMEI number my only concern is a small dent in the corner. Im worried they might charge me for my replacement cause of it. Its quite a small ding, what do you guys think?

No, thats not worth a RMA. They probably wont even take it, thats the users fault, whereas RMA is mainly only for manufacture defects.
If people keep RMA'ing for small scratches and dents like this Google is bound to change their RMA policy soon :\ since at the moment, their not too strict.
Unless I completely misunderstood that, and you're worried they'll fix that along with the fault and then charge you?
Whats RMA? Their sending me a warranty replacement and im sending this defected phone back. Im having issues connecting to my network, thats the defect. But if the screen is cracked or such they charge for the replacement. Im wondering if theyll charge me cause of this small dent

RMA is warrenty. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Return_merchandise_authorization
they might.. just send you the same phone back after repair anyway, that is; if its repairable anyway. If it's not then they'll send you a refurbished model, or in some cases a new phone.
So no, they won't charge you anything for the dent, as its RMA.
They are sending me a new/refurbished first, then i am sending mine in. Its a replacement, they arent fixing mine
They sent me a link to a page where I "buy" a new nexus. I went through the purchasing process but it just puts a hold on my card and not an actual charge.
Sent from my Nexus 4
Seeing that dent that looks like its a drop dent. I would be pretty worried that they will charge you stating they dont do RMA for physical damage or user error which they can in all fairness claim with that sizable dent.
I think it almost depends who inspects the phone

I spoke to Google and they said that if the screen isnt cracked or anything major than i wouldnt be charged

Insane Purchase Price!

I decided the nexus 9 was to big and that I would just by a nexus 7. But when I was on Ebay I saw this. Who in the world is going to buy a nexus 7 for $6,132. Apparently 52 people. I got me a mint condition 32gb for 165 with a case with swappa.

Or....52 could've been sold at a reasonable price, and then the price was raised to make it look good. Not sure how eBay works.
I also got mine off of swappa. $130 with a case. Like new 16gig with a case. Love swappa!
No, no, no. This is commonly done when supply runs out to keep people from buying one, they just raise the price absurdly high. Their item will stay relevant in searches and it'll keep the sold history, but no one will buy it.
That's crazy price. I got my 32G N7 a few weeks back from Walmart clearance for $158

Thanks for that explanation, not the first time I've seen this absurdity.
Bought my 16gb flo for $90 on eBay, pattern locked. Nothing a reset didn't take care of. It now lives in my Acura's dashboard (replaced my factory nav unit).
Got my 16gb in "fair" condition tablet only from Gazellestore on eBay...$79.99 shipped. Couldn't pass it up and was expecting the worst...it arrived MINT. They had several available so I believe they were just liquidating stock and put fair condition to cover all bases...I probably just got lucky with a mint example
Sellers sometimes raise the price to an unimaginable selling price when they're temporarily out of stock but don't want to remove their listing. Then they lower it back to normal when they have more.
I got my 16gb new a year ago from office Depot black Friday for 189 With a $25 gift card....
I see this often on ebay. The seller is either out of stock or out of town so they do that. I just got a manufacturer refurb 16GB for $126 on eBay.
I got my brand new 32GB Nexus 7 for $179 at Staples almost a year ago with a $20 coupon, and a price match for Micro Center. Still the best deal I've seen IMO.
Just bought one on Amazon for 169.99. My old N7 was really large and the N9 is too steep of a price.

Groupon has 16gb wifi new for $169. Which is hilarious because I paid $165 a year ago at office Depot.
We needed a second tablet with more than a gig of ram. We opted for the galaxy tab 4 7.0 because staples was selling them for $99....

Vertical pink line on a brand new Pixel 2 XL

Received my Pixel 2 XL earlier today. All was well for an hour. Then a vertical pink line appeared on the screen that got brighter and wider. Google support says it's a hardware issue and issued an RMA. Hopefully this isn't a repeat of my experience with the Nexus 6P that I had to RMA 3 times due to the battery issue before being issued a full refund.
https://imgur.com/a/MpQXs
This sucks!
Damn that really sucks. Just got my pixel XL 2 a couple hours ago...so far so good. Yeah I see the blue tint when you look at it at a angle...sucks but overall I think the quality is good
Damn that's definitely a defective unit
damn thats like the s7 edge pink line that appeared in the same spot
nice job calling google asap...
its sooo fun but damn it can be so painful being an early adopter
good luck man
That's T-Mobile branding. Lol
My wife's just had the same problem right down the middle of the screen.

Ditto. I thought it was a unique problem but it's looking more like a trend. The line started out as pink on mine but turned white and got wider over time. Google sent a replacement and I'm sending the old one back today.

I had this same issue with my S7 which was a known issue, of course this happen a month out of the 1 yr warranty. Samsung wanted to charge to fix. Considering this screen is made by LG and not Samsung this is not good and the one common factor is they are both OLED screens. I suspect this is some kind of MFG or design issue with OLEDs.

Vertical Pink Line appeared on Google Pixel 2 XL after one month
After mounting frustrations with Apple, I decided to switch to Android & chose the Google Pixel 2 XL mostly for it's display (I use my phone for work, viewing surveillance cameras, for logging in to customer GUIs for troubleshooting). I've generally had a positive opinion of the phone, but after about a month, I unlocked the screen and a vertical pink line appeared (through the battery percentage indicator down to the "square button"). I instinctively power cycled the device & the line disappeared for about 15 minutes, but then came back and is now here to stay. I chatted with the Google support team, and they say they will RMA the phone, but want me to send this to them & once the warehouse recieves it, they will send a replacement. My mobile carrier (Bell Mobility Canada) is doing absolutely nothing to help me out. They want me to pay the full device balance (I've had it for one month & got it on a 2-year contract) before they'll exchange, even though the manufacturer is replacing it at no cost.
Very dissatisfied that I'll have to be without a phone entirely as I'll wipe this one, ship it, then wait for it to arrive at Google, have them send a replacement, then have to set up the new device.

Call them and ask about advanced replacement, they can put a hold on a credit card, but not charge you. The will ship you one right away, then you can ship yours back and they will remove the hold once they receive it.
worth a shot.
