Received my Pixel 2 XL earlier today. All was well for an hour. Then a vertical pink line appeared on the screen that got brighter and wider. Google support says it's a hardware issue and issued an RMA. Hopefully this isn't a repeat of my experience with the Nexus 6P that I had to RMA 3 times due to the battery issue before being issued a full refund.

This sucks!
Damn that really sucks. Just got my pixel XL 2 a couple hours ago...so far so good. Yeah I see the blue tint when you look at it at a angle...sucks but overall I think the quality is good
Damn that's definitely a defective unit
damn thats like the s7 edge pink line that appeared in the same spot
nice job calling google asap...
its sooo fun but damn it can be so painful being an early adopter
good luck man
That's T-Mobile branding. Lol
My wife's just had the same problem right down the middle of the screen.

10 minutes on the phone with Google and a replacement is on its way!
Ditto. I thought it was a unique problem but it's looking more like a trend. The line started out as pink on mine but turned white and got wider over time. Google sent a replacement and I'm sending the old one back today.

I had this same issue with my S7 which was a known issue, of course this happen a month out of the 1 yr warranty. Samsung wanted to charge to fix. Considering this screen is made by LG and not Samsung this is not good and the one common factor is they are both OLED screens. I suspect this is some kind of MFG or design issue with OLEDs.

Vertical Pink Line appeared on Google Pixel 2 XL after one month
After mounting frustrations with Apple, I decided to switch to Android & chose the Google Pixel 2 XL mostly for it's display (I use my phone for work, viewing surveillance cameras, for logging in to customer GUIs for troubleshooting). I've generally had a positive opinion of the phone, but after about a month, I unlocked the screen and a vertical pink line appeared (through the battery percentage indicator down to the "square button"). I instinctively power cycled the device & the line disappeared for about 15 minutes, but then came back and is now here to stay. I chatted with the Google support team, and they say they will RMA the phone, but want me to send this to them & once the warehouse recieves it, they will send a replacement. My mobile carrier (Bell Mobility Canada) is doing absolutely nothing to help me out. They want me to pay the full device balance (I've had it for one month & got it on a 2-year contract) before they'll exchange, even though the manufacturer is replacing it at no cost.
Very dissatisfied that I'll have to be without a phone entirely as I'll wipe this one, ship it, then wait for it to arrive at Google, have them send a replacement, then have to set up the new device.

Call them and ask about advanced replacement, they can put a hold on a credit card, but not charge you. The will ship you one right away, then you can ship yours back and they will remove the hold once they receive it.
worth a shot.

hey everyone
today, 2 weeks after I purchased my Galaxy S 2, suddenly I saw a stain
I went to the lab of the store i bought the device from
they claim it's some kind of liquid which got into the screen from the speaker above the screen.
of course they can't open the screen and check what kind of material is it because it will ruin the screen.
but there is no way a liquid came in touch with my device. I watch it very carefully
last night I only played some angry birds and everything was fine
and this morning (after charging it at night while turned off) this stain showed up
does anyone familiar with the problem?
got any clue what may cause it
here are some pictures of it:
h++p://img121.imageshack.us/img121/2877/img20110711wa0000.jpg

h++p://img31.imageshack.us/img31/641/20110711134712.jpg
if anyone can help I'll very appreciate it. thanks
I have never seen anything like this (embedding your first two picture)
Is it possible the case you have is too tight?
The discoloration is on the inside of the screen?

the case fits fine. I bought the device with a friend and he have the same case without any strange signs on his screen
I tried to remove the screen stamp - it's not that
the touch works in the defected area
and there is no hearing problem from the ear speaker
if it is liquid, considering the way it speard
it probably happened in my pants pocket judging by the angle
but it doesnt make any sense
at the store's lab they told me if they seperate the led screen and the touch screen to check what is this stain, they can't assemble it back.
but since they dont give me warranty on the screen i'll have to pay them for new screen anyway.
any chance I can send it to samsung so they'll do the check and if it's their fault the replace will be for free?
I thought maybe some part melted into the screen, but they said every part was in it's place

That's your best bet. If something happened during assembly they'd cover the cost. If they find it's not a defect you'll probably have to pay. But I'd imagine you're still better off having it repaired by Samsung directly. Someone had their screen replaced due to breakage and it was 300 GBP just to give you some sort of reference.
I have seen moisture cause this (it does not take much) and it will normally dry/clear up albeit very slowly.
the stain keeps growing
and i'm sure i didn't add any water/moisture to it in the last 24hrs
it's so strange...
I'm having trouble contacting the local samsung here
hopefully they won't send me to the store I bought the device from
I saw a display replacement on ebay which cost 85 GBP (will loose the warranty of the other parts, not to mention ruin the whole device)
if I'll do it at the store it'll cost 220GBP
it's a hugh bet to send it to samsung. it can cost 300 GBP not including delivery
any suggestion which path should I take?
it almost sounds like the digitizer/screen sandwich is coming apart?
You are out of the store return window to just return for exchange? If there was a return period (not some shady store with missing return policies), just demand a refund, tell them it is not from water. Demand to speak with the manager.
Does your unit carry warranty from Samsung? I think the way this one works, you send it in, they evaluate it, if they admit it is their problem they will fix for free. If they say "it is water damager, user error" they will offer to fix for a fee, and you can still refuse and pay for the return sipping of your phone. So I believe most you will be out is shipping both ways.
Swapping the screen yourself may require some good skills - do you have them?
no returning after turning on a device
warranty on hardware only except screen&touch (had to sign on it when bought the device)
I dont think I have the law at my side
I guess I can only count on the manufacturer
no store here gives warranty on screen&touch
and this store was the only one which let you change the ROM without loosing warranty on hardware
the device also comes with their custom ROM and no recovery mode (so no one will steal their ROM)
Is it cancelling my warranty with samsung itself?
update:
here is a fresh picture
h++p://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/28/img20110712wa0000.jpg/
you can see it grows
and this time i used a whole white screen and found something new
you can notice there is a burn of the status bar in the corner
That is definitely a "liquid" stain. Aim next time bud. That is all

Holy Crap! I finally got the phone today after a 16 day wait and let me tell you, this phone is in TERRIBLE condition. It literally looks like it was dragged across the concrete, front and back! I cant believe that any company would try to pass this POS off as "refurbished". I'm curious to know other's experiences with these people.
Refurbished only means that they are returned to the manufacturer/vendor and tested for defects, then sold (if functioning), no matter how used it looks. At least you can rest assured that it works properly
Yeah, mine has a few dings on it too. Nothing too bad. Ordered a cheap case for it and screen protectors. It's my backup phone anyways. Why pay every month for insurance and still have to pay a deductible? I'm usually extremely careful with my phones anyway. Just in the off chance the worst happens, then I have the N1 to fall back on.
EDIT: Added pics. Minor chips on the metal frame up near the top and a couple of faint scratches on the screen.

I got my two. One I'm very happy with ; think it's the OLED version, and it's pretty darn clean, the other I think is LCD and is kinda rough. Going to call them about it. Spot on LCD, big gouge on bottom, fair amount of rash. Without the spot on the LCD itself (a washed out splotchy pixel group, not the glass) I'd be ok with it, but that's too much.
Finally came in.
Two little nicks on the bottom, one little scratch mark along the aluminum bar on the back and that's it.
The screen looks damn near perfect and I can't even feel the few nicks on the bottom.
Won't turn on yet, but the little orange light is lit up so I assume it just needs some juice.

if you buy a nexus one, always buy a new one. old nexus ones(especially OLED) versions have issues with pixels burning out and that is really unrecoverable. you will just kinda see a "status bar" on the top. if you buy a new one you won't have a problem. LCD ones don't have any problem
if you do buy a refurbished and or old n1, then hope for dear life that it is the SLCD version you bought because OLED is GOING TO HAVE SCREEN ISSUES.
I bought a refurbished OLED version. screen was a mess! returned it. bought a refurbished SLCD version . worked great. using it as my daily driver until i save enough money to get an even better phone(probably next year if the world doesn't end in 2 weeks)

I bought mine used off a member of this site, will be 3 years old in April and there are absolutely no signs of screen burn in at all. It is amoled and appears to have had a very hard life, but it still functions perfectly. I don't regret the $110 or so I spent on it, which included the dock and an extra OEM battery. I've gotten 6 months out of so far, even the power button still works perfect. I wouldn't pay the price of a new phone unless I was getting something more up to date.
I got bought mine used on ebay but it looks like new.
Hi guys,
Everything was okay with my LG G2, this phone is awesome, but one day screen started to play with itself, literally. I'm guarded with 2 years warranty and of course I went to service center. Problem was found - screen is bad. Screen was replaced with new one, but after I took it I noticed strange vertical lines. In the dark room everything was at "easy" level, in the not dark room "normal", and outside "extreme". I tok some shots with my Lumia 720, but in real life everything is 20 times worse. You can see photos below and I recommend to zoom in - then you will see the lines better.
Of course, I went back to service center. Service guy had another broken G2 and we compared both: yeah, mine with new screen has vertical lines, another broken G2 not. So we decided to sent phone to repair center again. Repair center response: all G2 looks the same, as mine. Of course I came back angry to service center for my phone and little guy told me maybe it's new LG screens for G2, better screens (wow, with vertical lines, way to go LG). And lines is in any case: phone is turned off or not.
I went where I bought phone - to my carrier. Nice lady took brand new G2 from box, we compared phones and yeah, factory G2 not have vertical lines once again. I have even four theory's! 1. I have defected screen. 2. I have defected screen and service center guys are idiots. 3. Service center guys thinks I'm an idiot. 4. Only factory G2 (not repaired) not have vertical lines.
Any suggestions G2 owners? Thank you.

My G2 got that vertical lines too out of the box I can see them only on direct sunlight and they are hardly noticeable,so its not problem for me.I assumed it was normal, because it was new in not opened box(my friend works in this shop where i buy it,so its realy brand new and not used and repaired).Maybe its realy a new version of the screen?
P.S.- I got my g2 from almost month ago and lg site says my device is produced on 31 march 2014

Thanks for answer. It's really dumb, if LG did that: my old screen was perfect at direct sunlight, right now it sucks hard. I have bunch of phones and no one has this stupid issue (yeah, that looks to me as issue).
Any more LG G2 owners?

Same here. My G2 has been repaired due to white lines on the screen. Now I can sometimes see these vertical lines but they don't bother me. I figured that they changed the screen type because of the white/black line issues so I'm ok with that.
No more users with this problem?
i bought a brand new verizon G2 as well , has the same screen , i have a clear scratchguard on top and isnt so prominent , is barely noticeable for me too, you must be working in direct sunlight to have the issue.
Nevermind.
I'm with Wind Mobile (who's vague as an abstract painting about their release), but they're only giving out phones to new accounts.
The trick is to go to one of their corporate offices (which would be a "warranty repair centre") where they can't deny you a sale of said new device.
So, tomorrow, bright and early, this guy's going into town with the hopes that they have one in stock.
Wind doesn't lock their phones like other carriers do (not at all), so it's going to be interesting to see whether we can get full root on this thing or not (fingers crossed).
Who's going in on said device here in Canada?
Post phone lock states and whatnot to this thread! For science, and curiosity. :fingers-crossed:

Apparently the Wind shop closest to me is backordered on said G5 for at least one week, rep would not confirm anything else (still vague).
Roommate snagged one up at a Bell kiosk just as they got a shipment of camera modules in stock. He spent an hour there between the kiosk rep and on the phone with "customer loyalty" trying to get a better deal since he's been with them 10 years, and nothing came out of it other than the standard free attachment.
His phone warmed up a fair bit during initial setup and charging but he seems happy with it overall. His only gripe is -- why can't the camera attachment hardware buttons snap a photo while screen off?
I got mine - here in Manitoba.
Picked mine up earlier today with the cam plus module for free! I thought they were only giving these to those who re-upped for two years.

- But I did re-up. Sweet, fast phone with some refined MM goodness. Watch out for the edges of the screen protector.
The screen "tapers" or is slightly thinner at the edges/corners - looks like a recipe for frustration as the screen protector will not remain perfect for long. I noticed the after enabling Dev Options I have the "Enable OEM Unlocking" function. I have no illusions that anything would be this simple.....
Yeah but still no Bootloader unlock.

my plan was to get the device as soon as it came out, but when I got our demo device in store, I put off my decision till hearing more about the HTC 10.
The things I have noticed with the demo at my store is
1: The module at the bottom does not line up with the device, it might not be lots but it is enough. Plus worry about the future if the gap will get bigger
2: Audio quality is really weak. After using the G4 for the last while, I find the G4 has better placement and a better speaker all together.
3: The phones "metal body" feels weird. It does feel solid but at the same time it does not. Hard to explain
Those are my main issues, now with the camera, I do like the idea with the wide angle lenses but i wish the dual lenses was to help with zoom. Also I wish they upgraded the 16MP shooter. Dont get me wrong, the sensor is great with the G4 and G5, but I would have liked to see it improved even more. One other thing I would loved to see is before the phone was even released, LG going to the different accessory makers to give them the module access so when the phone launched they had more modules.
I dont know, maybe I am just being nit picky but I think LG dropped the ball a bit on this one. My final decision will be when I get my hands on the HTC 10 and G5 at the same time.
Got mine on Friday morning. Comparing this with the G3, G4 and Note Edge I find this thing to be ultra fast. Camera is pretty good although bright, its very noisey. Audio quality is ok.
Waiting for a root method,. unlocked the oem part, hopefully we will see root soon, Cant wait to seeing v10 camera app ports and custom kernels with exposed stuff

Yes. It was confirmed on another site. Odd this is supposed to be the latest security update but they did t update the patch to June.
I'd love to hear some theory as of what's in this new build of the same kernel.
hopefully it includes a fix for the massive battery drain problems I've been having since the previous update...
It sure didn't help my Wi-Fi problems.

It is unbearable. WiFi doesn't last but seconds before it dies.
It's bad enough that I'm considering turning the device in for warranty repair. Five feet from my access point, it constantly disconnects. Does this until I finally reboot my device or disable WiFi long enough. Also, months later I am stuck on 7.0.0 where my wife on a Pixel XL has 7.1.2.
The screen scratches very easily and they have not updated their ShatterShield display laminate to be available for consumers. I have brought this to Motorola's attention several times but they insist I turn it into Verizon for warranty repair service for a few scratches and be without a device as well as pay the deductible to have a Lenovo repair tech replace the screen because I simply cannot buy the lens and replace it myself.
I have been with Lenovo/Motorola since the original Motorola Moto X. This will be my last Motorola/Lenovo device. I simply am not happy with their latest Verizon flagship. I very seriously wish I had purchased the Galaxy S8.

I was getting disconnects, even after a wipe but I think it was because of how I configured my routers. Plural. I was roaming from one to another and back.
Not getting a .1 update sucks but it's not surprising. I've had LG and my wife had has samsungs that
skipped 5.1 for example.
And the screen just sucks. I got a tempered glass and it feels better and takes scratches better than the plastic.
I hope they do something different with the Z2. The Motorola software is rather boring. I find AOSP 7.1 has more features.
After the Droid Turbo 2 Shattershield screen, many of us knew to put a tempered glass screen protector immediately on the Force. But I agree the Shattershield replacement screen not being available is ridiculous. I haven't had any WiFi problems, but that would be maddening.
One thing I know it fixed for me, I was having a weird charging issue where the phone would simply refuse to charge on certain chargers until I rebooted into recovery and cleared cache. That problem has gone away now.

I would like to buy a shattershield replacement for a Moto Z Force Droid I bought used. The shattershield is scratched up and the order online always says out of stock. I do not want to send my device for a repair I can perform myself. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you
