How dead is it? - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshootin

So my wife dropped her phone...screen isn't cracked, I've got her using my old note 4 for now, but wanted opinions on what is going on and whether I can fix it or not.
Thanks!

The display ribbon cable might have gotten dislodged. Google ifixit. There should be a guide on how to open the device. See if you can re-attach the ribbon cable.

Cool, that's what I was thinking too, I'll give it a shot.

I had something similar happen. OLED screens can have this "bleeding" effect when dropped. Mine started off fine after a drop and progressed to unusable like that. I ordered a repair kit and a screen with frame and did the replacement myself. Just look on Amazon and make sure you get one that says it's made for our model: the frames are slightly different and the cable to connect the buttons near the bottom of the screen connects to a different place on the strip on the side. These words make more sense looking at the inside of the phone ;P

Have I got a bad device

I got my nexus 7 today only started using it past 30 mins as I've been in work the screen looks good doesn't look washed out but does t look as good as my nexus s doesn't bother me one thing that does tho is when I press on left side of screen it makes some sort of click but I can't see the screen lifted or anything as people have said.... no distorted mic too

That is an extremely difficult read since you didn't use any punctuation. If you don't feel comfortable opening the device up to check the screws then RMA it.
Really sorry , easier when I use my PC first post from my nexus 7. The clicking went but I found out its the selotape that they cover the board with so it is the sponge as some people have said. I tightened the screws and screen feels the same as my right side now

Sounds like the device is fine to me. If you're not having any problems then you're good.

Screen washout on one side

Has anyone experienced the screen washing out on one side? It started two days ago. The left side is fine, but the right side is only showing blues, yellows and grays.
I'm trying to post a photo of it but no luck.

My N7 16gb (ssn: C70K) has a similar issue with the screen being perfect on the left side (bright whites and colors) but slightly grey-ish on the right side.
You should return/exchange that unit if you can. Remember screen problems almost always worsen with time. If its annoying you now, six months from now it will be a nightmare.
I sent them an email and got their generic message back. Hopefully I get something with an RMA number tomorrow.
Just out of curiosity, did you try to charge your unit with anything other than the cable and charger it came with?
Sent from my SGH-T989 using xda app-developers app
Yeah the right side of my screen is a lot warmer/ more orange looking.
It drives me nuts on white backgrounds since the left side looks white and brighter.
I'm beyond the Staples return period so I might call Asus, I don't know.

Nope. Only charged with stock charger connected directly to a wall outlet. Also, only charged the unit to 100% one time so far.

That's a relief. I was worried that my issues were due to using an different cable and charger.

Incidentally I have one of the C60K models.

Where to buy missing screws in the UK?

Hi,
I have the screen lift issue and when opening my Nexus up I see I have two screws missing. Searching around I've read they are 3.2 mm Phillips screws with M1.4 thread. I know nothing about screws and have tried searching google with no luck. Does anyone know where I can buy these so I can try and replace my missing ones? The guy at HMV said their stock is all the same shipment so if I get a replacement it's most likely to have the same issue.
Any hardware shop. B&Q for example.

Asus apparently decided your screen attachment is better without those two screws, and you are going to replace them. Why?

Put them in and watch that screen rise even more

really? So the only fix is the glue? I thought as some seem to be fixing their screen lift by tightening the screws it would work. Back to the drawing board I guess.

Give it a shot if you want, sod putting glue anyway near my screen, if its that bad take it back

The screen lift isn't too bad more worried about it getting worse in the future. I'm thinking about returning it but my Nexus is perfect bar this lift and with all the issues being reported I'm worried I'll get one with even more issues.

[Q] Will Google RMA if screen was replaced?

I replaced my screen. And now I am experiencing problems with battery life, and in need of an RMA. My question is how closely does Google look at the device that are shipped back, will they notice that the screen was replaced? I also forgot to put back the blue tab that was connecting the battery and holding the antenna down in place. Will they take the phone apart and find out I had disasebmled it? Also there is a small gap at the bottom between the bezel and the left screw. I think its due to one of the clips not connecting correctly. I could probably fix all those things but I lost my T6 screw driver, so should I worry about any of those things?

Not sure how picky Google is, but I sent a MyTouch slide into T-Mobile with the screen replaced, they noticed. I have no idea how, I put it all back together. I also recently sent my Nexus 4 in to Asurion for a replacement, the screen went wacky and I opened it to see if it was a loose connection. They didn't notice that.
Honestly you won't know until you try.

[Q] Wife dropped her phone.

Hello. My wife dropped her S4 on concrete alittle over a month ago and has a crack on the top part of the phone. Everything was fine until today when she went to turn on her phone and the screen is black. Everything works as far as notifications, sounds, etc. even the touch works on the screen. I managed to go to a real dark room and barely see the screen enough to turn the brightness all the way up but the screen has a real pale white and some lines through it. Just wierd it started to act up today after she dropped it over a month ago. Does this mean the digitizer is faulty or is it something else? I attached a picture for you to see it.
It means the LCD is bad. The Digitizer is what detects touch. Best bet is to replace the whole screen and digitizer assembly. It's not cheap, but it is easy to do.

Thank you for the fast response! I will have to buy this and fix it asap. Thanks again.:good:

This is the one that I got. It comes complete and looks like a factory original. All the markings match the ones from the broken one I took off mine. It's not cheap, but it is easy.
Mobiletechvideos also has a service for screen replacement.
