Considering Switch from Moto X 2014 - Xperia Z3 General

So here is a question for you guys. Looking for some opinions on switching my 2014 Moto X to a Xperia Z3. Here is my pros and cons for the switch so far. Pro, unreal battery life and expandable storage. Cons are the software side of things, bloatware and skin, slow updates and consequences for unlocking the bootloader. I currently am enjoying the Moto X but the battery life and lack of storage (I have the Telus version so I was stuck with 16GB) is starting to get to me. I barely have anything on the phone and I am almost out of space.
I really do want the Z3 but I don't know how hard it will be to live with Sony's bloatware and slower updates. I would love to unlock and root it but the whole DRM thing just seems to penalize people way to much for it. Anyway I guess what I am asking you guys as owners is how easy is it to live with the Sony bloatware (how much of it can be removed) and for those that have unlocked the bootloader, are there that many negatives?
I have until the 13th to take my phone back an exchange it for the Z3. Should I do it?

You can adb to block a lot of sony's packages. However, rooting might take a while. I'm debating on switching to the n4 just because I hate the feeling without root.

Don't you will die without root and if you unlock the bl you will miss out on many stuff.

I made the switch from X to Z3 and I haven't looked back. Storage was horrible. 10gb on a 16gb phone. Might as well just use a dumb phone if we don't want to store anything.
Phone feels great in hand and the updates are great but haven't missed anything much on Z3. You don't really need updates since everything basically works, you have SD option, water resistant, sound quality is better than Z2 so that is a plus and it's just a better package IMHO overall.
As much as I love Motorola, no SD card and less storage along with tiny battery has killed it for me.

You don't find the skin horrible or the bloat unmanageable? Those are my only real hesitations. Which moto X were you coming from first or second gen?

Well root is there, just happens that you **** up the camera with it

I took 3 days to decide what to buy (moto x vs z3)
I got the z3 simply because of better low light imaging, amazingly better battery, more storage etc
The only 2 things that was better in moto x was art availability and faster updates
I have the z3 now! You decide carefully before buying!

It is tough because I have the X 2014 now, and I am liking it but to me it is just another phone. The enhancements are nice but when I am working next semester and the battery life will be the biggest benefit to me. I think I am going to do it.

There is no such thing as perfect phone. You have to really weigh what benefits you and go with it. Skin bothers me a little but not as much as the storage or battery. I use apex launcher and use all the features it has and hide all the apps that I don't like (the ones I can't disable). It's really not that bad once you get to realize how much better of a package Z3 is. Of course, people will say otherwise on X forum. I had 1st gen before I got 2nd gen. 1st gen 16gb had more available then 2nd gen 16gb and they held back a little with the 2nd gen IMHO.

Yeah you are right. I can hide the apps with a launcher and all will be well. I shall go swap it tonight.

You can do "pm list packages" which will list all of the packages on your phone. These are the ones i did:
pm block com.sonymobile.advancedwidget.entrance
pm block com.sony.smallapp.app.widget
pm block com.sony.smallapp.launcher

Sony's software for the cam sucks, especially in auto, try manual its fairly good. Night shots are much better than my G2.

Do you know which package the What's New option is? I really need that to get out of my swipe up process for Google Now! Haha
Edit: I'm an idiot. Tried the first one mentioned and it worked. You guys are awesome.

Moto X the PERFECT phone!

I am unequivocally saying that after many many phones from the G1 and iphone to all the galaxy's , HTC one all the nexus phones and some nokia lumia's the MOTO X is the best phone I have ever had!
Size= awesome screen to phone size ratio
Screen= Those who complain are nitpicking it is totally indistinguishable from a 1080p without a magnifying glass
Hardware= great quality and build...GO USA
Software= Incredible blend of stock with motorolas great features, I use every single one from Moto Assist, touchless, Moto connect on chrome and especially the awesome Active notifications.
Ergonomics= Best in hand feeling of any phone I have ever had
Camera= My camera is actually pretty stellar I have posted some pics on here shots are crisp and clear. ( Also use the twist to launch quite frequently )
Microphones= easily the best and most clear sounds when on the phone. Speaker phone is really really good also
I have no desire to root and love this phone just the way it is!
Any questions just shoot!
Definitely an awesome phone. Camera is good (thanks to the update) but still not quite as good as the GS4 in my opinion, very close though! The only real thing that keeps it from being perfect for me is the non-unlockable bootloader and thus lack of roms/dev community. While rooting and Xposed Framework is nice (although no longer possible after the software update), I found that it lagged the phone a bit.Coming from a GNex, I'm also gonna miss constantly having the latest software. All that said, as a Verizon user who doesn't want to give up their service... I find this to be the best phone on their network.

Bootloader is a non-issue for me- this phone definitely does not need a custom ROM. I really don't see how it can be improved at all. I use Xposed and at least on my phone, there is ZERO lag. Indistinguishable from bone stock. Even if we had an unlockable bootloader and 1000 ROMs to choose from, I wouldn't even consider flashing one. And I used to flash a new ROM every week on all my other phones. First phone I've ever had where I didn't want to flash.

Agreed. I feel like this is what Google had in mind all along. This is Android the way it's supposed to be.
I have to agree. It feels premium refined and beer functional
I'm with you guys. This phone is so amazing as stock, I have had this phone for over a month now and I am still positively in love with it. I took the update without hesitation, knowing I would lose the ability to root. Every other phone I've had was rooted and completely reconfigured the day I bought it... I am now enjoying a completely different side of Android.
Everything from performance to stability, comfort to battery life is stellar.
I took my wife and kids to the Star Wars yesterday, the twist to launch camera feature was awesome! Couldn't use flash there and many of the photos came out great... I got more, good, photos than my wife did on her Nikon DSLR camera. I was very pleased at the cameras performance in low light levels.

Oh, and while everyone was fumbling with their phones unlocking the screen or looking for camera icon, I took it out of my pocket, turned it on with twist motion without moving my arm or taking my eyes off of the stage, and took 8 shots by holding the screen, and slid the phone back into my pocket like a bad ass. I only wish my orange chrome accent would glow in the dark. This is like the super spy phone.

Compared to some phones, iPhone 5 and sgs4, this camera is kinda weak. That being said, I'll gladly take the trade off for easy and fast launch and quick photos that still look more than good enough for me.
I think some people just expect professional quality photos from their smart phones these days... Some phones do... But to the majority of us, this phone takes photos well enough.
And I agree, some people will ***** regardless... If it wasn't the camera it would be something else.

So true
Camera is good enough, I spend about a couple minutes on all my photos and touch them up with snapseed. I don't mind and it's definitely worth the trade off for active notifications and touchless control. It's fun and easy to do and when the photo is done it gives it more personality. (Then a well focused sharp shot)

1 month with it with retail BR

FIRST THINGS FIRST. THIS IS DIRECTED TO BRAZIL USERS! It may help some folks from other countries but it is not what I had in mind.
So, I got my new moto X on Brazil retail for a month now. Came from 1st gen gen moto x and, before that I would pretty much root and mess around with every single phone I got my hands on. Never felt the need to do that on the old X. So, I got the new one with very high expectations.
So far I am not disappointed with it but there ARE areas for improvement. So, what I think of it right now:
The good:
- The camera is definetly upgraded from the old model, but that doesnt mean it is a good camera. I would definetly say it is a average in comparison to the poor one from before. Video is very good though.
- It feels so comfortable in the hand. I was a bit worried about the 5.2 screen and the sheer size of it (I do have big hands but I am not a fan on phablets at all) but it has a very comfortable grip and the metal frame gives a very good feel. The bigger dimple is ok.
- This is true flagship performance for for a great price for Brazil standards (I got mine for R$ 1424, (that's around $650 dollars) and I am pretty much on top of every benchmark test and performance test I make with my friends. The stock interface does shine here.
- The new version of moto software is GREAT! The waving hand to glance at the notifications is the greatest thing and we finally get a use for voice commands.
The bad:
- My battery time is far from great. I am a heavy phone user and I do need to charge it around 6 pm (10 hours off charger). I listen to music and game on commute (around 1 hour each way), have email notifications and whatsapp buzzing all day. A friend has pretty much the same use on his GS5 and usually has 20% more battery than me. It really seems like moto gave it such a small battery on purpose to direct peoply to the Nexus 6.
- Software has it's fair share of quirks. Moto screen has a small glitch when you interact with it. It is minor but is does bug me. Voice control has a real hard time getting some of the commands straight. The phone recognizes the commands but moto doesnt catch them. I have to say them 3 or 4 times to get it to work.
- I really wish moto packed a better headphone with it or no headphone at all. It is better than the one before but it really doesnt say much, since it was was total C-R-A-P. Construction is poor, sound is questionable and volume is incredibly low. Just avoid it if you can.
Other than that I really believe this is the best high end fone you can get down here now without having to fork over R$2000 or getting a outdated phone. Let me know if you have any other questions about it
Moto XT1097 for the win
Hello pacobahyba,
Thanks for your report, I'm on the same boat here, Brazilian Retail version, almost 30 days already. My last device was a Galaxy Nexus, over almost 3 years (That's how much a device usually last with me, that's what I expect from the MotoX).
---
Good things, i can add a few points:
* Camera: It have a good camera, overall. As a photographer i dont expect a phone to have a very neat camera, so MotoX didn't let me down so far.
* Size/Shape: Good grip on hands (Sometimes it's hard to use it with one hand, but not enought to don't like it), but also very comfortable in pocket, I know it's there but don't make me fell unconfortable.
* Very neat performance, as you said. Not even a lag, freeze, anything like that. Since I came from stock Android (Nexus device) I can say that I'm home here, and that's also awesome.
* Never used Moto softwares before, so I can't say about changes, only about how much i liked it, it's pretty awesome, but fells a little bit awkward on the street, also I can't make it works with the headphone speaker, not a problem, since I don't talk to the device on street.
* Battery: I'm very satisfied with it, last device was very poor on battery specs. I don't play games, but I'm always using GPS and Bluetooth, Spotify and Flacs, playing videos, email and web. You can add Skype and Hangouts with camera there, also Chromecast/Netflix and the Battery last till I get home to recharge it.
* Besides the fact Motorola made heavly saturated colors, screen is amazing.
---
Bad Things:
* Moto Voice takes too long to give an answer when it uses Google Now.
* Sometimes Moto Voice just don't work.
* Speakers are loud, LOUD, but not clear, not intense or 'live'. I would exchange the high volume to a more clear sound without a second thought. It's not Stereo (the top speaker only work with calls).
* No leds, not a big problem, but I used to use it a lot on last device, with Light Flow app.
* Power button fells like it will break anytime.
---
I really like it. It's far the best phone I got the hands on so far. I know it's only a Phone so most of the 'Bad Things' won't matter. I'm very pleased with the choice I made (I was about to replace my Galaxy Nexus to Nexus 5) and I hope it last for at least 30 months. I really liked the Motorola apps, and I would be very happy with more apps choice in the future.
Best regards (and sorry about the typos).
Just got mine today! Good to see Brazilian folks here.
Do you guys bought a case and a screen protector? I'm having a hard time finding it in Brazil :/
I'm really loving this phone, the active display is what I think it's best on the phone so far. And the camera is really not that good, but I guess they can correct that with some software update. I bought a screen protector for mine, and should have bought a case as well, mine already took his first visit to the floor yesterday no major damage, but it got a little scratched on the corner...

Hi Paco!
I felt the same about the new MotoX.
Bigger screen, better camera, better construction, but the battery does not fit for heavy users.
Moto Voice doesn't work well, but I rarely use it (I think that talk to the phone is strange; people in Brazil see you like a weirdo).
And I still can't find cases for this phone. I got a hard case in my old MotoX. One month has passed and no hard cases for new moto (is it selling fine?!?!)

I'm in Brazil too, considering to buy.
root is a must for me... did you guys already root it, the XT1097 brazilian version is bootloader unlocked?
Options I'm considering:
Moto X 2014 (XT1097 BR) - Sounds it will be ok to root, with good dev community, I'm concerned with battery only
Moto Maxx - Huge battery, but looks like dev community will be really small, because the US version is Verizon locked
Nexus 6 - That's the one I really want, but no news so far about launch in Brazil, will it ever come?

Mine is the XT1097, and I got to unlock the bootloader and root it with no issues whatsoever. As for your options, me personally, I would just trade my Moto X for the nexus 6, that one is the is the real deal, even though I don't like the idea of having a 6 inch display, too big for my taste.
Sent from my XT1097 using Tapatalk
hey man sorry for the delay... I see what you're saying on your options. The way I see it you gotta be between N6 and moto x. I dont like the maxx design... they remind me of that dreadful razr line
I think it should come down to a few things:
Are you a phablet fan? Otherwise you're in for a hard cause cause that thing is a monster.
Are you ok with the price tag? I liked the price range from nexus devices before. I get that Google changed the philosophy and all that and I am fine with their reasoning, it's just not my thing. I truly see it coming out here on iPhone 6 price range, but it is ultimately your choice.
Can you wait? It just barely came out. We usually have a delayed window. Keep in mind that moto is having a hard time to keep up with the demand. It's not unreasonable to think we'll get it by jan.
All things considered, I like where you're heading anyway! Let menknow what you do!
Thanks for the replies guys.
I will be ok with the screen size and price on Nexus 6. Yeah, I expect it to be expensive, but I will probably not need an upgrade in a few years hopefully.
I'm in a hurry though, because my old Galaxy S2 is almost dead... since there's no target date for Nexus 6 in Brazil, I may have to get a Moto X 2014 instead.
I'm brazilian and was willing to buy this phone. BUT....thanks to this post, i think i 'm gonna wait more.
I think the Nexus 6 will be the best for what i want. It really pisses me a small battery autonomy.
I was a Note 2 user, and i get used to a big battery. Currently i'm with a S5 but not satisfied with the autonomy.
Note 4 is too much expensive, and that TW is too much boring right now.
I really thinking about N6, but there is not even a single mention about if it will be avaliable to us here in BR.

I believe that at the launching it can be some high cost, but the Nexus line it's not the typically phone for the major BR population, making the price drop after some time. I never bought phones at the launching, I wait to drop it. The Note 4 is too much expensive, and the price drop is too much slow

Another question dude, what is the currently situation about Root and custom roms? Do you fell the need of them?
I don't know your historic with smartphones, but I'm at my 4th Android phone and one of the first things that I do in a new phone is to root it and search for custom roms.
(But the main reason to root is to freeze or uninstall crap softwares that came original installed, I don't think that Moto x have this problem).
Thanks

So, rooting is there but custom roms are not.
I am on my 6 android phone (had the sony x10, moto milestone 2, milestone 3, razr i, the original x and the new x). Before the original x I d root every single phone I had mainly for custom roms and better performance management so I think we are alike on that point
Now with that being said, since the original X I didn t see the need to root it. Performance was snappy from day one and it stayed that all all the way before I sold it. That baby was a beast. The new X feels the same to me. It is pretty much stock android feel and motorola software actually enhances the phone's usability without affecting the performance at all. I see that quite a few people have it rooted but, since most of my backup is done automatically using tasker and I store it on 2 different locations, I have very little to worry about
I couldn't wait anymore, got the XT1097 in FastShop.
Didn't root yet, the only thing I miss most is hibernating bad apps with Greenify... what do you guys do to tame apps that are insistent to start and consume cpu/mem/data all the time?

Jumping Ship

Hi every one,
I'd like to get some opinion here before I make my final decision of jumping to the other phone brands, and FYI, I have a been very loyal Sony users until I lost count of how long has it really been.
Tempted by the look and praises that all LG g3 gets, and after holding it with my own hand, I'm now closer than ever towards a new phone experience. I know that I'll miss some of Sony features if I ever make the jump such as waterproofing, but I think I'm willing to take my chances, and to be honest, I'm even willing for some disappointments (well I hope not so, but just want to make myself ready if there is any).
And along with this, I'm also interested in knowing if any of you thinking of making a jump into any ships, for whatever reason it is, maybe even if you are not satisfied with Sony, well you see, it can be anything.

I wouldn't do that if I were you!! It's right there's no such a different between z2 and z3 but I believe the camera experience won't be as good as sony's plus the water resistance ??

Judging by how many G3 and Z3 phones I sell at work, it's both zero. Ha!
IMHO, stick with the Sony. Better interface, water resistance, better update schedule and the G3 has buttons in a terrible and infuriating location.
Hi,
Actually I have a Xperia Z and my next phone will be a Xperia Z3 compact.
My reasons for this decision are:
- they put the Hardware of a "High-End-Phone" in a smaler case without cutting the mainreasons (eg camera, performance)
- waterresistant
- a stock-userinterface where I can change the sorting of my apps in the app-drawer
Actually I have a Xperia Z and my next phone will be a Xperia Z2 (I can't go back to a smaller screen)
But I also "play" about 20 minutes with a G3 in a store and love it. Meanwhile, If I choose the G3 I'll miss all the media apps from Sony.
The battery life in Z3 is far better than in G3.
I'm waiting for my Nexus 6, hopefully some Beast like Z4 isn't announced while I'm waiting.
I've jumped ship already. My XZ is now a glorified tablet, and I'm happier rocking a Nokia 515!

Yikes! The Nexus 6 was a disaster. Bugs, awful battery life, poor performance, a bad camera and incredibly expensive to boot. I would've waited for a Z4 if I were you. The Nexus 6 is a definite mistake by Moto/Google.

All nexus phones start like that, but at least you get an update!!!!
Z4 won't be a great leap that is my point.

Z3 is only as good spec wise as phones that came out a month after the Z2.
Qualcomm are having issues with the 810 so the Z4 will just be like a IPS screened Nexus 6 but waterproof and maybe more RAM.

Many reviewer says that you get used to the button sooner than you thought you would, but that doesn't bother me really. Right now, I'm using my button only to turn the screen on and I have "long press back button" to lock it back, I imagine, I would never use that lock button since I'm gonna do the same and G3 have double tap to wake.

With bigger screen, more pixels and smaller battery....I know that it's not gonna last as long. But I'm sure it is going to make it through my day. That is the least of my expectation. I will probably be dissapointed by it, but I hope not so.

I sell the G2/3 and work and deal with them often and still hate the buttons. It is in no way natural or easy for me. My fingers just don't go to the buttons.
That is it, about the same foot print, but larger screen on g3. That is one of the reason why am I considering the g3,and not to mentioned, the price.

I know, I don't think LG g3 will get anything after lollipop, but heck, my xperia z is still on 4.3. I'm the type don't bother so much about updates. Once I get the phone set up to my liking, I will probably stick with it until it's breaks apart.

I don't know if this is an important factor for you, but LG phones are proving to be really annoying to mod.
LG have done something to their apk files which make them difficult to decompile and recompile. In fact, some of them can't be recompiled at all yet.
One of the first things I do when I get a new handset is change the status bar and notifications screen to my liking...which is one reason why I won't be getting an LG phone anytime soon.
Gotta admit it's tempting though!
about 10 years !! w960 . x8, and now the Z !! and they were all working fine actually they are all working so far :'D !! i got disappointed with the x8 updates (however the custom roms got me back in the game) but the updates with the Z are cool !! and my phone is really satisfying i don't need anything more except the audio volume

I'm kinda bored with this phone

The subject basically says what I am thinking. This is a great phone, don't get me wrong, but it's kind of boring.
I was looking at the fingerprint scanner on the $6 and it looks pretty cool, especially how it logs you into websites with it's browser.
Anyone else bored with this phone?

That's cool and all but I never used the fingerprint scanner. I have both devices. And what I prefer over the S6 is of course the changeable battery and also the SD card. Plus the fact that this phone has more potential for development. CM and bliss pop will be here any day. The S6 hasn't had much action in that division.
The LG UI is a nice change from touchwiz has been my main UI since the S2. I think I'm about to sell my S6.

I'm betting this is not the first time you've become bored with your phone. I know for me, I get bored with every phone I own after a few months with them. Some quicker than others. The Nexus line of phones seem to keep me interested the longest. I get a new phone every 6 months and still get bored

Nope, not at all. I hate fingerprint scanners, as I am not willing to give any more personal information to the rest of the world as I am already am by using a smartphone. For what benefit? There is a plethora of other ways to unlock your phone and since 5.1 they work great for me. The LG G4 has what I want from a phone, a great screen, great camera and a removable battery and sd card slot.
Especially the battery and the missing sd card slot is a deal breaker for me. So the S6 was never really an option. Although the leather option really looks nice and works in day to day use, while glass on a phone is a very dumb idea. I can not count how many times I did replace the back of my girl friends Sony Z3.
LG has of course some things to fix, but the overall concept of the phone is great. Samsung? Not so much!
I want to love my LGG4 but I am having the occasional vertical screen split issue and I am hesitating to get a refurb replacement with my TEP. If I were to trade it in (if even possible) I would go with the Note 5. My kid just got one and it is nice. Real nice! ...and no issues so far!

I came across your thread while surfing.. I am a G2 user from past 1 and half year. You know what I am still not bored with it. Infact I got bored with my nexus 4 in same amount of time just because of plain boring vanilla android. [emoji12]
Just love my G2. Running Cloudy 3.3 rom which is a G4 port.. Loving it.
Thinking to upgrade to G4 just for the dual Sim and SD slot.
Regarding s6 it's battery ? life is not that good.

Im one to switch phones every 6 months but this is my first Lg phone and so far its been a great experience. The camera is just ridiculous and the ui dosent bother me near as much as touchwiz. Im happy with my nexus 6 and g4, ill be certain to get the g5 next year if its a huge upgrade.

I absolutely love this phone. The aspect of having removable battery and an sd card slot was the reason I bought this phone and has not regretted it. Now the only thing missing is an unlockable bootloader. But a least we have root for now so I m quite satisfied.

As card slot, removable battery, amazing display and camera front facing and rear, really selfies look much better on this phone. Also feels much better in the hand than any of the s6 line, also love the minimally intrusive ux ui, closest thing to stock you can get on any of the flagships, exception of moto pure.
Fingerprint scanner can't replace the bennifits of this phone.

You're right.
I think it tells a lot about the instability of some people, not just with phones but with everything in general. Some don't know how to be content .
I used to desire wanting a phone and other things so bad and then when I get that thing I felt "bored" after a while and then realized that this will happen with EVERY phone/laptop/car/technology/house/location/etc..
We just have to learn to be content and not let a phone/everything earthly thing be our idol.
See the benefit in what we have and look forward to living our lives.
That fingerprint on the S6 will make the OP "bored" after a while too.
If you're not happy with something because it is defective or too large / too small for you, that's a different issue.
G4 is great but I find it a bit too big because of the bottom bezel preventing me from holding it sometimes. But I still enjoy the phone a lot when I use it.

Because hammer is a simple tool. You don't use it everyday, you don't take it everywhere with you (showing to others is also important lol)
Sometimes you can feel better with phone that runs worse but look better and vice versa. I used note 4 for 2 weeks. I loved it despite the speed not being that great. But it had some serious issues with 3g signal and mobile data was very slow, often no connection at all while traveling. (shiny metal frame also looked ugly after 2 weeks)
I switched to Z3. Great phone in almost every aspect. But it became boring in its perfection of every day usage. However camera was a lot better on Note 4 I knew it and missed it when looking at photos and videos (especially in low light).
I feel like I was always looking for phone that has everything. Yesterday I used S6 edge plus for a while and I'm impressed so far. Looks amazing, camera is superb in auto and also has every manual options that g4 has (normal s6 has no shutter speed control, but I wanted to learn how to play with night shots). Speed and battery life is easily fixed (but so far looked good) with debloating software. But guys the price xD.
I tried to summarize it but it's hard, because I considered Z3 as the best phone I've ever used and everything changed in one day when the back glass cracked itself and Sony didn't want to repair it under warranty. Btw. Sony claims that their phones are no longer waterproof and you shouldn't take them underwater.

I just miss SMemo and the Samsung camera software. If this phone had all the incredible camera options along with it's high def camera and the unmatched SMemo, this phone would be the best available without question.

if this were a flagship phone, you might have a point with the select few people that are experiencing lag, those that don't, this is about the best mid ranged budget phone you can buy. Some people will say the nexus 5x isn't much more, and that's only true in the US. Outside of the US there is a pretty significant price difference, not to mention all the nexus 5x gives over the moto x play is a finger print sensor and a slightly better camera.
No SD card slot for the nexus 5x killed it as a budget device. Googles argument about SD card storage been slow is kind of moot given they are adding a feature in 6.0 called "Adoptable Storage" meaning I can turn my SD card into part of my phones memory. Meaning a 64gb SD card in my moto x play will my phone will report 80gb of internal storage. Given UHS-3 card can now reach 95mb/s read, it's not that far behind the phones storage speed (getting 125-130) on mine.
For the very select few that have lag, it seems to releated to having specific software, more commonly, having google apps 5.2 or below. Many users noting a significant increase in performance running google apps 5.3+.
The battery is amazing, the camera is about the best you'll get on a sub 400$ phone. It's confirmed we are getting 6.0 and with a SD card slot, this is easily the best budget device on the market at the moment.
Take a look at this topic http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-x-play/general/moto-x-play-performance-t3186858
I think the majority of users have lag issues. To me, it's unacceptable that a Moto G 2nd gen (or even the G 1st gen) don't have this problem and the X Play does. I would definitly look at some other options if I were you, even though in this price range would be a little difficult to find something.

I don't think you've ever owned a fast phone, because you would instantly see how unresponsive this phone feels most of the time. Sure its snappy, but if you can't see that input lag, you arent very knowledgeable about the subject. I wouldn't trust your opinion for that reason.

Maybe I do have a defective phone, but that wouldn't be my fault would it? If you can give me a video demonstrating your own touch response delay(by turning on the show touch in developer options and demonstrating it through slow and fast swipes), I'd be thankful of you. That way I can prove I can know for sure that it is or isn't a defective unit. I don't mean to start an argument anymore, but if you can help me compare the two, that would help a lot. So far I like this phone a lot except for that reason, I also bought it open box from my carrier, maybe that has something to do with it.
It's not defective, Motorola already admitted it and they are working on a fix. For the play and the style

Its just a software issue which is also faced by few people on moto x style/pure edition. And motorola will gonna rectify it soon. I would still suggest this phone...because of amazing display in 20k..may be the best... Excellent battery life....trust me i am an Indian user n battery is amazing. Camera is pretty good too if you know how to click pictures..(dont do bad photography and blame the camera for it). Marshmallow is just around the corner... Turbo charging n all and it doesnt heat like all those chinese mi4i.....i would still suggest this or you will gonna miss on a pretty powerful smartphone. Apart from it i trust asus zenfones..they are pretty good phones...zenfone 2 is damn good but display n battery is not at all near moto x play. Samsung J7 is good is but too much bloated n i hate touchwiz UI...you can take it as an option though.
