Developer support for SGS 4. difference betwen I9500 and I9505?
I'm going to buy a Galaxy S4, but the question is what do you think, will there be more people developing ROMS for the Version without Octa processor or with Octa processor?
I'm asking that because I own a Galaxy S and there was the same situation with the Galaxy S Plus, as there were only few people developing for SGS+
Will you buy a I9500 or a I9505?

The I9505 version will get the best support due to it being a snapdragon.

Only for AOSP roms.
For stock-base roms and kernels, I guess the Octa version will get the update quicker and more frequent than Snapdragon version.

Many of us are probably getting the Snapdragon version. Easier to develop plus many devices are using it.

I really hoped that, because i won't use lte and in Austria we almost don't use lte and lte is really expensive, and I read that the Octa processor will be better for battery life

Octa is actually better in terms if power battery efficiency and gaming
But snapdragon is better for dev support and it has LTE

Wrong. Snapdragon allows each core to clock independently plus it only has 4 cores so it is much better on battery.
OP: if you like custom ROMs and such (why else are you on xda right now?), go for the Snapdragon, no questions. Many more people will have the snapdragon as the whole US and most of Europe is getting it.

this is how it looks to me ...
look at the previous galaxy and note series.. the non-lte version is available in almost all countries.. hence has the most dev support..
but in s4's case., since they cant mass produce exynos octa YET., they decided to use snapdragon even in countries outside the u.s... that's the only way to make s4 available to all countries..
they wanted to be the first to use octa chip?.. they sure am now.. but why rush releasing it when they cant give all people this octa feature they boast about?.. that's because they dont want xperia z and htc one to have all the spotlight..
and the result is what OP is asking now..
since the u.s. and most european countries will have I9505., the logical answer is the snapdragon will have more dev support.. and even have the higher chance to have cm..
Therefore, which is better? I9500octa or i9505 snapdragon?

Great thread and very good question OP. Right now, it looks like the snapdragon version will be the most dev friendly since it'll be the one sold in big markets ( US, UK, Germany....). I wish that the exynos 5 octa had LTE included. The note 2 had the same processor everywhere in the world and that was great.

yea i saw this too... i personally am on verizon and i dont have mine yet because of this... i dont develop a whole lot, but i imagine the release of verizons version will bring over more developers to the i9505 once they can buy their device...
but, yea, im a little disappointed with the 9505 support so far too , from what ive seen at least.
Well obviously i9500 will have more popularity.. its sold internationally vs i9505 which is US only. Plus having 8 cores is more cool. :victory:

US - I9505
Canada - I9505
Central and South America - I9505 + I9500
Europe (all Europe !) - I9505
Asia - I9505 + I9500
Africa - I9505 + I9500
So...what's the score, captain ?
9505 is more popular, ma 9500 is better
There is rom development for the 9505 just mostly for the tmobile and sprint variant
Give it some time, the roms will come evebtually!

Last numbers I read are 70% of sold devices being the 05 (when carrier versions are included) with the remainder being 00s obviously. In the end I'm sure those numbers will play out in terms of support being greater for the 05. I'm thinking (some of) the initial interest in the 00 relates specifically to the possibilities with the cpu and this has sparked some folks toward wanting to have a go at the new kid.

I9500 cpu A15's cores are faster and more power hungry, GPU is weaker
I9505 is fast, not as A15 but no power hungry and GPU way better.
So...none of them is better or weaker...
I hope to see some development also. .. I had a Sony and there was so much difference between the amount of development between Sony and Samsung

Was waiting for GS4 Octa 32GB to arrive in UAE and it is available now but this LTE-A variant has Snapdragon 800 and Adreno 330 which is definitely faster than the original version, I am not able to decide if I should get the 32GB version now or wait for the LTE-A, will Samsung release this internationally? I change my phone in two years so I want something which doesn't get outdated soon.
Wait for the LTE as it supports 4g and support glse 3.0 and has better battery life so it cud spend more time with u
but if u want a phone for 2 years dont choose samsung because its screen burns and becomes bad after sometime

Well I am using S2 from the last two years and no issues with the screen so far, I don't care about 4G, the choice is in between Exynos Octa and Snapdragon 800.
most likely won't come international. Samsung always releases a korea only version, as their networks are generally more advanced then the rest of the world (not as good as Japan's networks though).

Phablet is too big for me, I don't like any phone more than 5 inches, S4 fits best but with so many variants it is really difficult to decide what to get which can be with you for a long time, 32GB plus point for I9500, Screen plus point for Active and Snapdragon 800 plus point for LTE-A, it is really confusing.
Just one last question, the Octa version has powervr SGX 544MP3 and Snapdragon one has Adreno 320, was reading on the web that only Adreno 320 will support opengl es3.0 which will come with Android 4.3.
Does this mean PowerVR is not future proof?

Nothing is future proof .
Get the S600.
North Americans use that device... my experience is that devices that have more North Americans using it tend to have more developer support... possibly because they have alot of programmers over there ?
The long and short is long after Samsung stops releasing updates for the phone teams like Cyanogen will still support it.
Secondly Google Edition runs on tbe S600

1) lack of source codes for the previous exynos in galaxy s3 is a well known problem preventing the ability to create good, custom and clean android roms for s3. therefore, many developers have decided ditching s3 custom roms.
im afraid there will never be any good clean android roms for S4.. or it will take a long time.

Hello guys, an Android / xda developers n00b here...
The Octo Core GT-I9500 was the only choice here since it's the only S4 model shipped in my country so I'm a bit frustrated too about the AOKP thing - which I learned it may well be the next big thing after CyanogenMOD itself.
I'm about to flash Arrow ROM right now which seems pretty interesting and also will give Omega ROM a try, while we can't put our dirty hands on AOKP we surely have two really nice mods to play with
As such, I'm all years about your experiences - if any - with any of these two ROMs.
Cheers

Snapdragon? The current 2014 has a Snapdragon. Is there another version of the 10.1 coming?
Sent from my SM-P600 using Tapatalk 4
The Note 10.1 2014 only comes with a Snapdragon 800 as far as I know...
The currently released version (WiFi) of the GN10.1 2014 has an octa-core Exynos5. NOT the new Snapdragon. Considering just how much coverage went into the big.LITTLE architecture, an the various enquiries and wariness on the parts of reviewers about the Exynos Chip as compared to the Snapdragon, just how many people DIDN'T know about it?
I mean, it's a MAJOR decision maker/breaker for some people!
My thought exactly. I am considering this tablet but am worried that there will be no development since its exynos and not snapdragon.
Sent from my SCH-I545 using Tapatalk
I have seen nothing suggest there's a Snapdragon version coming out.
That said, can someone tell me why that would halt development?
AFAIK Samsung does not release any source code for exynos stuff while Qualcomm does release code for the snapdragon processors. But I could be mistaken.

Sorry, I thought it as common kmowledge. The wifi models have two quad core processors rather than one snapdragon 800 chip set.
The result is a component developers are not experienced in working with and no available source code (?).
The potential of the dual quad core (octa core) is huge! We just need to get devs on board.

Unfortunately, I don't think the price is going to help :fingers-crossed:
Honestly, The Note is the only one of my devices where I never got rid of TW. Not that I like it, I hate it and will theme it out so it's not so ugly, use a different launcher etc.. but the TW features on the note is what I buy the note for. Especially how deeply integrated the S-pen features are. Sure there are other note taking apps out there (lecture notes.. etc) but I always preferred s-note, and now on the 2014 model even more so, s-note is a lot better now. I think using an AOSP based rom on this type of device is kinda a waste but that's just my opinion. I usually will theme it out to look as much as stock android as I can.. All my other devices I'm constantly flashing stuff on. My old note 10.1 has been running the same rom for about a year. haha

You are right.
As far as the OP goes, I don't think there is any word that a snapdragon version is coming out, is there?
As far as I know, Wifi-only versions (P600) get Exynos while 3G (P603) et 4G (P605) have Snapdragon S800.
I have a 4G version and it clearly has a S800 in it.
Now looking forward to get root and remove most of Samsung bloatware...
NM, delete this.
According to this Engadget review
With the 2014 Note 10.1, you'll find yourself using one of two chips: the 3G and WiFi-only versions come with an octa-core Exynos 5420 chipset built in, while the LTE unit features a 2.3GHz quad-core Snapdragon 800.

After using the S5 Dual SIM for a month now , i am not satisfied as battery isn't that good and i don't feel that the device is good enough , after using the G2 for a while it's very hard to move to another phone
so i am thinking in selling the S5 and get a Note 4 as i was alwyas a fan of Note family and owned Note 2 & Note 3 and they was one of the best i ever used .
But confused , Which one shall i get the Snapdragon or Exynos ?! the Exynos supposed to be 64-bit but it was disabled in Kitkat and can't find info if it was enabled with the Lollipop update or not
we always choose the Snapdragon because it's supported more than the Exynos , but it's not the issue for me all i care about the performance in general which is better ?!
So please advise which one shall i go for ?!

They did not add 64-bit support in Lollipop on the Exynos note 4 and probably will never do since the S6 will be their first flagship that will support it...
get the one you want it doesn't really matter much...
exynos may offer better benchmark performance(+1-2k in antutu, that's what some exynos owners are claiming anyway) but they don't have Cyanogenmod/AOSP nor they will have it any time soon. which means you'll basically be stuck with touchwiz based roms forever. if you don't care about it then go for the exynos but as an android lover myself I love the fact that I can just flash whatever I want when I want.
Take a look at reviews and make your choice: http://anandtech.com/show/8718/the-samsung-galaxy-note-4-exynos-review
Basically if you dont give a s**t about custom ROMs (like me) and would rather choose better performance (and similar architecture to the future S6) pick the Exynos.
If you care about performance you must go for the Exynos.
Get which ever is in your country and carrier, unless you plan on running benchmarks all day, it really doesn't matter which you get.
Allow me to steal your thread for a second. I'm also interested, and I found a pretty good deal for a refurbished AT&T N4.
I do care about performance, but I care more about rooting and being able to install custom roms.
What's the best model for that?
Thanks!

Both have root and custom roms, unless you want CM12 now I would go for the Exynos.

ATT Note 4 does not have custom ROMS or even root for that matter.

Thank you guys. Other than the AT&T model, what is the best model to use on AT&T with LTE? Of course, with root and custom roms.
Thanks!

I wish I knew. I wanted to order one real fast today with overnight shipping from Amazon to use while my Nexus 6 is being replaced but there are so many models its confusing. I literally want the exact same thing you are asking for, ATT LTE with an unlocked bootloader and custom ROMs. :crying:
SnapDragon FTW !
Still confused throw Note 4 models !! i don't know why Samsung do that !!! S H F !! What the hell is that
What's the difference between Snapdragon versions to to have 2 models !! F and S
What's the difference between Exynos versions to to have 2 models !! C and H
!!!
Exynos 910C LTE, 910H UMTS model, Snapdragon 910F international model, the S i don't now. Bye the way i would buy the Exynos again. It simply has the newer, better soc. It keeps cooler and runs stays longer fast. Snapdragon is throttling more often.
What is the best one to get in the UK? I'm on EE network if that matters and I need 4g/LTE
Thanks
Edit-also worth noting that I will want to be able to root and uproot if I need to use Samsung warranty down the road.
any one here with 910C version can give me his feedback about the device ?!
Had both the F and C models. Exynos is faster and cooler, Snapdragon is a little bit better on battery. As I charge my phone every night, I choose speediness over 30-45mins of extra SOT time.
