Please someone has to be able to help me! My phone as of three days ago, HTC One X, had drivers working completely fine. As of a couple of days ago my computer has just stopped seeing my phone! Whenever I try to install the drivers, I get an error that says "Windows tried installing the driver but failed. The request is not supported." I've searched everywhere and have not been able to find a solution. I was just trying to copy files between my computer and phone but I couldn't do it. I'm sorry if this is the wrong area, but it is a Windows 8 machine with this issue. The thing that baffles me is the same exact drivers work on my Windows 8 laptop. I have a screenshot attached of the error, as well.
Please note that XDA-Devs is not a tech support forum. Unless you were doing some kind of hacking on your PC (or phone) that you would expect us to understand but not a more traditional environment, this is not a good place to ask such questions.
With that said, the first thing I'd try is completely purging the phone's drivers from the PC (uninstall them, and remove the files), preferably while the phone is disconnected. You can do this in Device Manager. Then, reboot the PC. After reboot, re-connect the phone and see if you can get the drivers to work now.

Hi all,
It's been a while, but I am back with HD2. I have a problem. I have win7 business on all off my computers, I instaled latest activesync, but I keep getting error connection. When installing drivers, I get the unknown device, so instalation failed.
Not even bluetooth recognition works.
Any suggestions, please?

If you are using Windows 7 Business, I would guess you mean you are using Windows Mobile Device Center, yes? In Windows Device Manager are you set up to automatically download drivers? Are you getting any errors in the Sync Center? There is a lot of information you have to supply before anyone can troubleshoot the problem you are having.
There are a lot of steps you can take, most of which you can find by doing a search of XDA. If that fails, then come back with a more detailed explanation of what you have done, and people will try to help troubleshoot for you.
Thanks for looking,
and yes I have been searching a lot for information allready before I made a new thread.
I have win7 business and yes it does download drivers automaticly.
I will try and search for manual driver setup, but would be very thankful if any of you could give me some hints.

In Device Manager you can click on Portable Devices and see if you see your HD2 there, if you do, then right click on it. You can find options to manually install drivers. If that does not work, in the Mobile Device Center you can configure how the center is supposed to connect to your HD2. Have you tried that yet? Also, make sure you are not using a USB hub for connections. You can try changing USB ports to try to reinstall drivers.
I am trying hard, this is the error I get:
P.S.: in activesync all options are on, so no problems there, but I have tried all of them.
In that case, try uninstalling the device in Device Manager, and starting over again. It does seem to be a driver problem. Another trick you can try is on the HD2, under Settings, USB to PC, try unticking Enable advanced network functionality, and then try to reinstall the drivers.
Another thing you can try is deleting the partnership in Windows Mobile Device Center and creating a new partnership.
Is there a wa I could find the driver somewhere and install it myself?

In the Leo ROM forum the thread on MTTY has some Windows 7 drivers you can download I believe, but that will take awhile.
Are you using Win7 32 or 64 bit?
win7 32 bit. I tried to download them through windows update, but I got an error as well.
So I am on a quest for drivers....

If you are familiar with computers, you can try this with Win7 drivers you download for HD2.
You did try uninstalling your device in Device Manager, and trying another USB port to install it on? It seems really odd that Win7 is not finding the right drivers for you, and that persists even after you uninstall and reinstall the device.
No luck so far, any more ideas?
Update:
I tried the same thing on another laptop, same specs, same win7 business, worked like a charm.
So must be this win7 problem I think. Any ideas what to do? I can't remove mobile device center, so I could try and reinstall it. The icons stay in my control panel.
Anybody?
I just can't imagine this is only happening to me.

Did you have any luck yet in solving the problem?
Nope my dear helper,
I found out this is windows7 problem. I still get the first error can't install device driver, because the device is not installed on the computer.
Something must be wrong, but I was getting a head, network driver installed fine, windows mobile device program runs fine, I made a clean install with register delete etc...
I just can' seem to find this to work.
i had some problem the first time i plugged my HD2 on win7 64 ultim.
nothing happened, no activesync, no nothing...
i opened sync center, nothing...
windows updates found me windows mobile device center with upgrade devices, the thing installed but all still worked bad, impossible to activesync, no driver for my HD2, and i know nothing about phones and windows, it's my first windows mobile.
so after hours of fighting, i decided to DL the app windows mobile device center on microsoft download website, then i installed the thing and oh miracle, my HD2 was detected, the app Win M D Center was asking me now with the pic of my hd2 in the prog to chose between settings as the first thing installed by windows update always froze at win mob device center splash screen...
i resume here but it took me the all afternoon to finally resolve this problem.
something went wrong with windows update install and to reinstall the all app was the easy way to fix the activesync problem.
If you did already re-download Windows Mobile Device Center and that did not work on the one recalcitrant computer, maybe you might need to update your BIOS or download the latest drivers for you motherboard. Sometimes problems can crop up if the computer does not have the most updated BIOS and motherboard drivers. How old is the computer you are using?
Well, after calling microsoft support and HTC support and doing for 36 hours nothing but trying I finally reinstalled my hole system. So new clean install of windows 7 business and it works like acharm. Where did it went wrong, I don't know, there had to be some register issue I think. Windows mobile center worked ok, the connection with the phone worked, but just not recognizing the device. Well I would of done the instalation sooner, If I knew this one is gonna be so hard to do.

Well, glad you finally solved your problem, and that this time the blame was not just placed on HTC or the Leo. Sad though that you had to go through so much to get the darn thing to work. I just installed a new operating system for my neighbor, and there is still more work to do on it. Not a fun thing to do.
Sorry if this is a duplicate couldnt see anything about it.
installed wp7 every thing works fine
so i thought id try and connect it up to my computer
the phone and computer make a noise when connected
but there is no signs of it on the laptop
it wont connect to zune or wmdc Helpppp.
ps. im using windows 7 operating system for my laptop.
Why are you posting a question in the development forum. This is why mods have a full time job cleaning the forums
MY bad
my bad, how do i move it ?
I'm not sure whether this helps, but I'll try. On my PC the Mobile Device Center doesn't recognize my LEO70, you have to download the Zune application for that. No big deal really, you can do with that app everything you were used to in MDC.
Fix.
I managed to fix it in device manager it was a corrupt driver.
i just right click and reinstalled and it worked from there.
cheers for the help though people!
I have this same problem, but I couldn't seem to fix it. There is no driver at all. It says device not recognized when i go to device manager. As winmo 6.5 and android, the usb/laptop detects my hd2 just fine. But as soon as I flashed wp7, it is not being detected. *pull hair*
anyone kind enough to post the HD2 WP7 usb driver so that I could manually install it?
I already have my samsung usb and android modem drivers installed. but everytime i plug my phone in with usb debugging on, the "Found New Hardware" window keeps popping up, why?
im not sure, but it could be the problem to why it always says "waiting for device" on superoneclick
My day job is pc tech, I have seen this a few times but going to follow the steps, first give me some info
Which version of windows?
32 or 64 bit?
How proficient are you at driver maint. *add and removeal ov drivers*
When did this start?
windows xp - 32 bit - and im pretty proficient at maintenance. i think its always been like this.
Ok, Do you always use the same USB port? and have you tried a different cable? and have you tried it on other computers? if so did it do the same thing there?
First we got to get rid of the drivers on the pc.

This is a free program that has a few nice features but most important is that it can tell you the name of the files that are used as drivers. After you install and register (its free, they just want to know who you are.. name, email, that kind of stuff) there will be an entry on the right side called "Installed Drivers Report". Make sure you phone is connected before you click this as it scans active drivers. it will generate a report you can scroll through and find any samsung driver entrys. Write down those file names, we will need them in a moment.
Go to device manager and remove the device there. Windows XP was kinda lame about device removal it did not actually remove the device just broke the connection. Vista and 7 give you the option to actually delete the files which make this easier. Since your on XP after the devices have all been removed UNPLUG your phone from the PC then start a search for those files in the Windows directory. Delete (or move) those files and the rerun the driver install program from here

After that it may setup and find new hardware a few times. Mine did it 3 since there are multiple different methods it can connect with and each uses differnet hardware. Also each time you use a differnt USB port it sees it as new device in a new location so it also goes through new hardware setup again.
Report back and let me know if this helped any.
okay thanks for the quick response. i will try it when I have time and ill get back to you. first, imma try it on a different computer.
also, when its plugged in and i open device manager, theres 3 yellow exclamation marks, one on the android modem, device, and in the "OTHER devices" section, the USB controllers. if that means anything.
just turn off usb debugging... and it will stop. turn it back on if you need to use it for something.
I have had the easiest run so far in getting my HD2 to work with WP7, installling DFT's ROM and getting an activation code was a breeze. All is good except for one issue. When I connect by USB to my PC, the PC shows a window saying that it is seeking and then installing Device Driver Software. It does this every time I connect and then concludes by saying that my unidentified device is now ready for use. Zune then tells me that it can't make a connection between my HD2 and the internet but it can still sync files etc. I have installed Windows Device Manager (with .NET4 and developer tools etc.) and it too can't connect with my HD2. I've pursued the references in various threads to firewall issues and so on but I'm none the wiser.
Can anyone advise me what I should look at or what to try?
Other than this, I just want to say a huge THANKYOU to all at XDA and the extended community of interested/interesting folks who make it such a fantastic resource for everyone - BRAVO!
im having this EXACT same problem! anyone got any answers?
Zune
Guys,
Did you install Zune Desktop Software?
Once you have installed Zune, it should pick up your device.
Let me know if that does not work
I've tried everything except doing a hard-reset. And, yes, of course I installed Zune on PC
i assume you mean Windows mobile device center?
you dont need it
it should connect and be done, the fact that it isnt remember the correct driver suggests something on the driver side is buggered.
With the phone connected go in to the computers device manager, and right click on anything to do with the phone, including and unknown devices, right click and uninstall them all, before it installes them all again, disconnect the phone
look for a tool on google called USBDVIEW
make sure you get the correct version 32bit / 64bit
You will also need the USB IDs if you want to see who makes each device
put it on your PC and run it in admin mode
Locate anything todo with the phone and right click and remove them all
Remove Zune
Remove Windows mobile Device center
restart your PC
install zune first
Then plug in your phone into a different USB port and not in to a HUB
See how you get on with that
Second thoughts, ive attached the 32 and 64 bit versions, both already have the USB device IDs file with them, just copy the zip file to your PC, extract, and run as admin, all credit goes to the owner of this, i found them at http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/usb_devices_view.html
sorry double post
Didn't work. =/
UPDATE: It did work
Zune cannot connect to an HD2 running Windows Phone 7 unless the time and date match on the phone and the computer. Make sure that your date and time are set up correctly on the phone, and do match the time and date with your computer. It is a long shot, but it worked for me before.
For the driver problem, dazza9075 gave the best advice.
Hmmm, so much for that fun. I was running WP 7004 when the computer first couldn't find the phone, after doing what dazza said the driver problem got fixed, and Zune found the phone. I updated from 7004 to 7008, how ever the phone kinda crashed at step 8 (restarting your phone) so i restarted it manually, the update is working fine except now Zune can't find my phone again. Not even after doing Dazzas method again.
I will try to change the time zones maybe that will do the trick.
Ok... first off im a noob to this forum but I know this is a legitimate issue not user error and ive spent the last 4 days scouring to get SOME information on this and the only thing ive found is remove battery and reset phone... HELLO!!!! thats step one on the list... sorry venting done...
Device: mytouch 4g
OS: Windows 7
When I got this phone i plugged it in and ran with no issues until i tried to root it without success... and when i tried the ADB method i found that the phone would no longer mount into windows 7 i have tried multiple computers and multiple cables so it's a device issue.
When I plug my phone into a computer it comes up with "searching for drivers" and fails... look in device manager and it says "Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43)"
Tried manually finding drivers and can't...
Tried "repairing" the install of HTC drivers that came off the HTC website and didn't work...
Tried installing PDA net to get different drivers... didnt work
uninstalled devices and get the same issue...
deleted upper and lower filters from registry
Tried every combination of fastboot/USB debug
even tried desperatly deleting cookies/cache/web history(found on another forum)
AND NOTHING WORKS...
if you can think of anything I haven't tried it would be nice

I would like to help you out but need to what rom is on your device and what exactly your trying to do on windows
Sent from my HTC Glacier using XDA Premium App
It's running the complete stock rom... i believe it's called espresso... and all im trying to do with it right now is get it to show up in windows as a hard drive...
usually I would assume a driver issue (thats what windows thinks it is) but I've reinstalled the drivers around 10 times desperately and restored my computer to no avail so i think when i tried to root it the first time it flashed the usb firmware... if thats complete bs then just let me know... new to android... not new to computers...

For a Hard Drive
1lug your phone into the computer
2:On your phone, drag the top slider bar down to the bottom
3:There should be a notification that says charge only. Click on that and select Disk Drive, Mount as disk drive. Click that
Try that and let us know what happens.
Edit: If you are trying to use ADB you want to be on charge only and have USB debugging on . To get to debugging
Menu-settings-applications-development-USB debugging
yeah that was one of the first things I tried(i actually have that as default)... The problem is that my computer thinks its an unknown device when plugged in and I can't point it to the correct driver...
USB Debugging is enabled, correct?
Seems strange... have you even tried installing the driver on another computer?
I've tried debugging on and off...
And yes I've tried a different computer that was one of the second things I tried

sounds like a driver issue... i am not a 100% but thats what i sounds like.. download and install this program.. it uses the correct drivers.. just make sure u select "HTC" when prompted.. http://junefabrics.com/android/download.php goodluck report back
i tried that already and after trying again (just now) it failed again... i wish this was a simple driver issue...
I might be totally off but try changing your sd card and see whether your computer accepts it.
Also when installing drivers make sure your device is not connected to the computer.
Or try different USB port, or a factory reset.
Sent from my HTC Glacier using XDA Premium App
nope... different sd card/different usb port/factory reset didn't do it...
sky2k, I had some driver issues with my mt4g too.
Try this:
Download USBDeview - http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/usb_devices_view.html
Download the drivers for your phone from HTC - http://www.htc.com/us/support/t-mobile-mytouch-4g/downloads/
Run USBDeview AS ADMINISTRATOR. List all drivers in alphabetical order. Remove any and all associated with your mytouch 4g.
Reinstall drivers via HTC Sync software. Please let me know how this works for you.
Try to connect the phone with both the SD and SIM cards removed.
well guys im still having issues connecting via USB... but...
I found something to let me connect to ADB via WIFI so using it I got everything pushed and I am now S-off... so I am extremely pleased... that said i would "like" to be able to plug in and mount the sdcard/run adb but if I cant i can deal with my work arounds...
