Tomorow my tablet will arive, i searched forums and some peoples said that can call using the sim from tablet others no.
Can i use the sim from tablet for calling?
I remember someone being able to make calls with it. I'll look around.
Ok 10ks, on youtube i found that 8.9 is able for calling. I would like to have my table in front of me and talking from my 3000 minutes of free talking

The original 3G 7" Tab was always able to make phone calls. It looks like the 7+ (the Tab in the video) is able to also. There was a video of a pre-release 8.9 with calling features but it never made it in to production. ICS is rumored to support GSM calling. We'll have to wait and see.
Ok, I can't find where I saw it at, but I really didn't look that hard.
I have been using Google Voice for about 3 years now. If you have Google Voice coupled with the app GrooveIP you can make calls easy with your tab ( I have 10.1). For texting I just use the GV widget and app. Its awesome and I save minutes using wifi. Since I have GV I use the lowest plan for me and my wife (she uses it too cause I Make her ) 730 minutes I believe a month shared between us.
Here I have this plan:
- 3000 minutes in my network
- unlimited sms
-75 sms & 75 minutes in other networks
-150 MB internet

I can blow through 150MB in an hour.
I know Internet MB amount sucks here so no one found if i can call from my tablet using sim?
When we can make phone calls via network, I would be very happy about it, too.
Because I have a plan consist 1000min in my network which I'm wasting. Happily I can use my 3000sms to any network and surely my 1000mb data.
Today one of my friend who very like my P7500 bought one P7300 and it doesn't have any phone app or so, too. It was sad to see that. In every preview before devices hit the stores, we've been told it will be able to make phone calls like original Galaxy Tab (P1000) but when we can buy it we saw there is nothing like that... But I'm still positively hoping that we can make phone call like P1000.
that's mean there is still unable to make call by using p7500??...i am still waiting for this features.....quite dissapointed if cant make call just like p1000
So ... does anyone succesfull called from galaxy tab 10.1 ore figured out how?

No, you can't make calls on the P7300 or P7500. It's been asked and answered a dozen times. It does support MMS.

Yep i am on 7510 and have been making free phone calls. 2 ways to do it
Sign up and get a phone number from google voice then download grooveIP and use the google voice account to log on and start making calls
Second way download text+ and its latest version support both phone calls and SMS
Caveat is i am in the US may not work in other countries but give it a try

He's talking about using the imbedded GSM radio in the P7300 and P7500 to make actual carrier-based calls using the phone number already assigned to the device. The Tab 7, 7+, and 7.7 allow this but it's not available in other Tabs with the same h/w. It might change with ICS but no one knows.

Traded my Sprint version for the Verizon version and got $100 back.
Who all has the Verizon version, and what have you been able to do/not do with it?
I wonder how many of us actually have the VZW tab and not the GSM.
I've been searching around for a few days and don't see much going on.
Looks like the original manual peaked that it does have voice capabilities.. just locked up.. anybody working on this? *hint..i would donate plentiflie.. and i made that word up.
Also, if no developments are in process on this, anybody been using sipdroid or skype, without having an alternative handset in their pocket?
I have a hd2 that I hotspot to the tab, if voip calling is reliable enough, id activate the verizon service and let go of my tmobile and number for it..
my only worry is bluetooth really, want to see if anybody has had luck usuing skype voip on 3g or anything while using their bluetooth for listening and microphone..
this isnt just about calling, id like to see the general Verizon owner input
Personally, I really like my Verizon Galaxy Tab. I picked one up at CostCo because they're very reasonable with their return policy and while I wanted to see how it stacked up against the iPad, I wasn't really counting on keeping it. But I've barely even looked at the iPad since purchasing the Galaxy Tab. I am a tad bummed that I can't connect my bluetooth keyboard but, frankly, it's not that big of a deal. It is a pocketable tablet, after all. It's worked quite well with both of my bluetooth headsets but I haven't tried using the mic. It's small, light, fits in the pocket of most of my pants and looks very nice.
I use mine for email, browsing and, BIG plus over the iPad, watching baseball and hockey games via streaming Flash. I suppose if I really cared that much about voice capability I'd be looking into something VOIP but I barely even use my phone for voice calls. I barely use my phone for phone calls, however, so I couldn't really care less about it on the tablet. I do the opposite with my phone, tho. My AT&T iPhone account still has real unlimited data (I've been very careful to maintain that) so I use the phone as a hotspot and connect the tablet to it, only using Verizon when I'm in a place where AT&T sucks.
Finally, CDMA always gets the short end of the stick when it comes to custom systems and I don't see much of anything here for anyone yet so I wouldn't hold your breath waiting for something. I jailbroke my iPad and rooted the Galaxy Tab and all things considered, the Galaxy Tab kicks the iPad's ass right now and I'm very pleased with it.
I have a VZW tab too and I love it, and I kind of expected less developer support for the CDMA tabs. Still though I would love to see some custom roms / kernels for us as well.

Looking forward to taking it on my 8hr+ flight coming up.
Hey great sharing markgamber. Could you elaborate a bit on how to connect hotspot from your phone? I'm using a verizon phone and a tab, but somehow it seems if youwant to set up your phone as a hotspot, you have to pay for extra tethering, like $10 per month?
any way around that? Or am I mistaken?

I have the VZW Galaxy Tab and while I love this thing there are a few things that are annoying.
1) No phone but thats all US carriers so thats pretty Lame
2) No bluetooth keyboard. This is really annoying as I am a college student and I planned on taking notes on this thing, but now I really cant.
3) I have no idea why but the T-mobile version of the tab has 16GB internal memory and the VZW tab has 2GB, which makes absolutly NO SENSE AT ALL.
Other than that the tabs are all the same accross carriers but its unfortunate that these things happened on VZW.
I have the Verizon Samsung Galaxy Tablet for my wife. It's rooted with Z4root, wifi connection (modification with 1 file like wp*) with Droid 1, & Droid X for internet/emails. Corporate emails Activesync works. GV with Skype for voice call/receive.
Installed Droid bootstrap recovery, & Droid overclock for under clock the tab, Setcpu & others utilities. Haven't try the deodex files convertion. Very happy with the tab performance, no FC yet, battery performance is great, no hot temp issue.
Using Droid 1 with Project Elite 4.1 rom for myself, & Droid X with Fobalous Apex 1.31 rom for my wife.
Forget to mention that no dataplan from Verizon, cancelled after purchased the tab for 2 weeks. Pay no tethering fees, just using from Droid 1, Droid X wireless tethering. I bricked 1 tab though while converting the deodex files. My part of mistake.
I used the z4root and rooted my tab, but I don't understand the advantage of me doing it.. is Set CPU and all that another app to download? Really not sure what to be looking for.
I've been debating activating the tab with Verizon, i have Unlimited data through Tmobile and have been tethering the WiFi to it wherever I go, but funny thing is, my Tmobile Data drops pretty frequently, not sure if it's anything to do with the ROM i have on my phone.. but its very annoying to see the Webpage cannot be displayed page while I see verizon has a great signal.. makes me want to call and activate everytime.
I gotta say, I really do enjoy the tab, I got the VOIP working on it for free using ipKall, callcentric, gv, and sipdroid.. unlimited calling.. but the quality just isnt there, even on WiFi the latency is murder.
What advantages, aside from a constant data connection does activating it get? Is Vcast and the other preloaded apps a big benefit??
Also, what have you guys been able to use for Video Calling? I haven't once been able to use it, Qik is a older version with no video chat, and ooVoo never seems to wanna load. Hopefully we will get the updated skype with video chat, I saw a guy with an iphone 4 in best buy the other day video chatting, looks fun!

Try Tango in the market it is free and works quite well. A buddy of mine has an iPod touch 4g and he installed tango and we were able to video chat without issue.
I am very satisfied with my VZW tab and 3G service.
I have done most of the less adventurous tricks and installs that are here on the forums without issue. No flashing or ROMs or such, I'm waiting for an easy recovery solution.
I am using a sideloaded older version of skype on a VZW data package for voice calling and GV for SMS. Have replaced my iphone with this tablet and am now paying roughly $40/mo. for everything. Works wonderfully for my needs.
There isn't even an option to add tethering to my plan, I just looked. There is a note on the bundled 3G mobile hotspot application that using it will use your device's existing mobile broadband plan. This just seems logical to me and all the other carriers are just robbing their customers. We are paying a premium for the limited data plans as it is, why should it matter how we burn through it?
VZ vs Tmo
Hello,
Can someone please post the email.apk and email.odex from your VZ tab? It has a better email client that isn't as crippled as Tmo's and i would like to try it.
Does anyone know if this will work? I will try it.
And if anyone wants the bluetooth files off of the Tmo version, let me know. It may allow you full funtionality (BT keyboard).
Does anyone know if this will work?
Best,
BC
Doesn't Vzn charge for text messages from the tab? I have T-Mobile and they are included. May get the new vzn tab with lte, 1.2 ghz and 5mp camera though.... thanks

Use root explorer from the Market and once inside, go to system>app>then find email.apk and email.odex and copy to post both files please.
Let me know if there is anything on the Tmo version you want. If I were you, i would try using the bluetooth files off of this version because it's not crippled the VZ's so you can use a bluetooth keyboard with it among some other things I believe.
Good luck and thank you!

I would be interested in the Bluetooth files if they will work on a Verizon version Tab.
vzw tab here...
rooted with z4 so I could install anyvpn to vpn to my office and also so I could delete bloatware.
use oovoo for video calling -tested on wifi and 3g
mostly use it for reading news, taking notes, light rdp over vpn, custom app that accesses jms queue etc.
use wifi hotspot occasionally instead of the wifi tether I used on my droid 1.
all in all a big fan and will keep it until vzw 4g device of similar size released. as much as I like the looks of thexoom, it and the ipad are just too big for my taste.

Hi everyone,
Just got my Virgin Galaxy S2 in Canada. Unlocked and ready to go with Rogers. My friend also got the S2 and when we were playing around with it, there was a button called "Video Call" and he called me with it. Now just a question, does this go through the Video Call from the carrier (meaning we will get charged for it) or is it like Facetime where it uses data only?
We tried it for like 20 seconds and then thought that we might get charged so we hung up.
Do you guys know?
Im taking a pot shot and guessing its like facetime and you get charged data wise

I did the same thing with a friend on galaxy s2 (bell) unlocked to use on fido, i turned off wifi AND data, and it still worked.
I am totally lost on how it is working..
Haha yea.. so I wasn't sure how it works. Probably goes through our cell network. I do remember long time ago, Fido/Rogers had something about video calling for x amount of minutes. Not sure what it will show on my bill.
It's just regular video calling, which has been around for years (Facetime is just another "look at this wheel we've invented" Apple fallacy.) It goes through your carrier and is treated like a call, not data.
It charges, unfortunately even higher than normal audio call. At least it is the fact for my carrier.
I used it totally about a hour with my wife...
Denmark's Telmore, btw.
If you're interested in doing video calls, I find that Tango is the best app for it. Larger and smoother videos. Not too sure if it's using data or 3G though.
Do the carriers in Canada actually support video calling over their networks? We can't use video calling through dialer at all in the U.S. because AT&T killed the feature about two years ago.
It will be charged just like voice calls, may be rates will be higher, No Internet

3g video calling if integrated with dialer does not use data, so no data charges. But the charges may be more. In india the charges are same as nornal audio calls.
I wanted to know if it is possible to use simple mobile and galaxy tab and get 3g and voice? and does voice and data work at the same time? Where can i go to get started if this is possible thanks. Everything is scattered so searching is difficult and i have not seen so far a thread saying for sure if its working with 3g thanks
I am thinking of getting a galaxy tab is it worth it? Are there any other tabs that can get voice and data?
You can't get voice and 3G data at the same time in the US whether its with T-mobile or simplemobile.
If you really have to have a 7 inch cellphone get an at&t version. It can do voice and 3g data at the same time.

Saying there is no way is like saying there isn't a Gingerbread update for a US SGT. There is a simple, very effective workaround.
Sign up for Google Talk and then download GrooveIP.
Works perfectly.
It is so well integrated into my tablet experience that I never consider my SGT NOT being a phone.
I think you can still get edge with phone. Just not 3g. But right. There are many other alternatives. I used to use sipgate (paid $20 a year ago and I still have $16 on it). It is acceptable if you are talking to people who are used to international call. I just got galaxy s2 as a real phone and still using sipgate for any international call and surprisingly it sounds better than cheap phone card (sip rate is cheaper btw) so it is still a good alternative. I just would not recomend going through google voice because the latency gets worth with it.

At&t tab and simplemobile sim card = voice and edge is maximum speed (2g) data.
T-mobile tab and simplemobile sim card = voice and edge data. *
Att tab and att sim card with voice and data plan = voice and 3g data.
The network bands are different for the tabs for the high speed data but they are the same for edge data and voice. No modem can fix the hardware difference.
I had both versions and the att version was better when I wanted voice and data. Now I just use wifi or tether the tab to a smartphone.

I would say probably not. I have discussed this at length over in the GNote forum.
Long story short, even if the chipset does have a 1700AWS feature, enabled by some modified modem.bin or whatever, the device itself is very unlikely to have the antenna necessary for picking up that frequency. So basically, you'll either get very poor 3G signal, or none at all.
For Americans, as much as it sucks, my suggestion when using international devices is this:
Listen carefully. Are you listening? Good!
AVOID CARRIERS WHICH USE PROPRIETARY FREQUENCIES AND/OR TECHNOLOGIES
So that rules out T-Mobile, or any MVNO that uses T-Mobile (like SIMple Mobile), and that rules out EVERY CDMA carrier.
So yeah, if you're importing international devices, you're basically left with only one option: AT&T (or any AT&T MVNO). And people think it isn't a monopoly? HA!!!
I'm not listening.

I am wondering if my P6810 WiFi only device can use Gmail's Call Phone option?
I have used Call Phone on my laptop when traveling and it works great to make free calls within the U.S.
If not I guess I can use Skype or QIK or even Google Talk?
Yeah I know, why not buy the P6800? Well cost for one thing and also I have a T-Mobile "MiFi" hotspot that is pay as you go. So if I am traveling I top off the hotspot with data/time and I am good to go. Put the little thing my my pocket and connect to my tablet via 4G.
Note: I have not yet received my Tab from Negri , it is due to arrive on 1/26/12

Sweet! I will check it out...thanks for the link.
Couldn't have been easier..
I finally put my AT&T sim card in my tab yesterday..
Now I got it from Negri on the 6th & set up my wifi..
Set up my email.. all is cool..
Went & did an OTA update... all cool.. no probs...
Then I stuffed in the sim card..
Immediately after re-booting... I made and received phone calls..!!!
I didn't have to do any settings at all..
So I tried sending myself a txt message... sent and received within a few seconds..
I didn't have to do any APN settings at all like I had to do in my GNote..
Then sent and received mms too!! success..
Web pages loaded fast.. although I cant find any icons that say 3g or H or H+...
Only super tiny green arrows going up and down near the clock on bottom right..
My contacts from my sim card were there too..
AGAIN.. I DID NOT have to do any APN settings..Somehow it knew and did it all for me... wap. cingular...etc.....
Super success!!!

Phenomenal battery. Easy get through a full day with room to spare, even with screen at 100%. Using as primary phone as well. You can talk on the thing for over 24 hours straight, and still not run down the battery all the way. No joke!
Well it does say 49hrs of talk time in 2G mode and 27hrs in 3G so the battery life is gonna be phenomenal when it comes to taking calls.

And that right there is precisely the reason I bought an HM5000!
Ever since the first deployment of UMTS video telephony has supposedly been an integrated feature of the UMTS (and subsequent revisions) standard. For those of you who don't know, UMTS is basically the first publicly deployed iteration of 3G mobile communications, and it's the internationally adopted family of tech standards which includes later revisions all the way up to the HSPA+ of today.
When I lived over in the UK for a few years, I distinctly remember being able to pick up phones which featured video calling right out of the box. This was over the then new 3 UK network, back in 2003! So, when Steve Jobs announced how new and revolutionary FaceTime for the iPhone was back in 2010, my reaction was "b!t(h please! There ain't nothin' 'new' or 'revolutionary' about that ****! I was making video calls 7 years ago, and I didn't need to be tethered to some damn wifi to do it neither! New and revolutionary... my @$$!"
Here're the questions:
Why do no AT&T phones include a native video calling function from the dialer?
Why, when I buy an imported phone, which DOES have the video call function available from the dialer, does it not work, even when calling someone else with the same functionality on their own phone?
Why, when they operate an expansive UMTS/HSPA network, do they apparently not support what is supposed to be an integrated feature of the UMTS standard?
Nay laddie!
Don't you know that Apple invented video calls when they introduced Facetime?

A Revisionist

You are correct, it does have everything to do with AT&T, so going to the AT&T forum will do me no good to help. The problem is, AT&T does not, and never has, liked the idea of carrying video-call traffic over their network. What I'm trying to do here (if it's even possible) is give AT&T the proverbial middle finger, and use video calling anyway.

Not the same thing... at all...
I was wondering about Native video calling support also. Calling customer service was a waste of an hour. So called tech support woman who was hacking violently into the phone the whole time literally had me go into settings and turn on airplane mode on the phone I was talking to her on. She called back a few minutes later wondering why we got disconnected. A few minutes after the phone call ended I had no data. I called back to find out what the problem was and they told me she put a note on my file that I requested data to be turned off, when all I asked was if there was a specific app that integrated into the native video calling.
any luck finding a way to use the integrated video calling button the stock dialer?
