Lack of NFC SUPPORT - Nexus S General

I live in a city with low pay pass support. It's mainly gas stations and a few fast food places. Great feature, glad to be an early adapter, but don't get enough local use. I travel alot so I use it there. But overall does anyone live in areas with a lack of support?
Sent from my Nexus S 4G using XDA App

I live in the area with no support at all...and many of us do.

No support, so I haven't even messed with google wallet yet. I'd rather have 4G, actually id settle for being able to make a call.
Sent from my Nexus S 4G using Tapatalk

I have enough support, 4G, great call quality and have never dropped a call
Move to a civilized area or change to a carrier that actually has coverage in your area.
If a phone/carrier does not work for you, you can change that not anyone here.
I always try to remember we are a nation of people who are not at fault.

I used it once at a tim hortons no problem, then went back to that same tim hortons and the lady looked at me like i was nuts when i put my phone on the pay pass.... she said that doesnt work yet....
So i wonder how many places are nfc payment ready, but the employees are just not trained on it.

I don't expect to have an opportunity to use NFC for some years. Wasn't a factor that figured into me purchasing the Nexus S either though.

Mine was working at the grocery store but I did factory data reset and now the prepaid card that i have all my money in will no provision and google is no help.

I niticed alot of places that iuse mine at. Just wait for apple to do it then we will havr more support

No 7-eleven, Jamba Juice, McDonald's, Jack in the box, Macy's, or Peet's? Where do you live the boonies?

I actually have a ton of support in Charlotte,NC. Problem is I don't use it because I don't eat fast food. Worked great at my local CVS for some red bulls, several times.

We have plenty of places that have support for it here but every time I use it people are dumbfounded as to how I did it. More phones need this technology and it needs to be advertised before it will catch on

Disgruntled Evo owners

Have a super 4g phone but no 4g? Please give me a break! You knew 4g was limited when you bought you're phone. http://defraudedconsumer.com/Sprint4G/
What will they think of next? Hell they even have fruit roll-ups on the chopping block

This **** here is starting to work my nerves. I wish these cheap mofos would just go buy a damn flip phone or something and stop complaining. I REALLY could think of a ton of other things to do with my time than focus on this. People really need lives.
For me I love my Evo wouldn't have it any other way just sharing with the community on current news about what's going on with our phone.
Sent from my PC36100 using Tapatalk
I knew my area was limited on 4G and I still bought the Evo 4G.
I have patience to wait for 4G in my area, this isn't "defrauding". Some people just have way too much flipping time on their hands and want to cause rukus whenever they find a chance to.
Losers.
I love my Evo 3G!!!
I think the fee is alright if there is 4g in the future, but seriously I'm in detroit and nothing on the horizon so far....they are throwing 4g in these podunk towns and ignoring major metropolitan areas....what gives?
Dear Bailey Perrin Bailey:
Go get yourselves coited. You bought the EVO knowing that there were limited areas that 4G was working, and you were free to look up those areas on Sprint's site anytime. You bought the EVO knowing that there would be a $10 premium data charge whether or not you had access to a 4G network.
You made choices using the information available and now you must deal with them.
Angrily Yours,
ZachPA
Dear Sprint:
I believe you are about to be a defendant in a class action suit. It seems that this suit is based on laws that revolve around what a reasonable person might be able to ascertain based on facts available.
In other words, I am a reasonable person, and I knew both that 4G wasn't available at my home or office, and that I would still be paying $10 extra per month for premium data. What's more, I am perfectly happy with my decision.
If you need someone to testify on your behalf, call me.

I'm going to be the plaintiff of record in a class action suit against McDonalds, Burger King, Wendy's, Hardee's, Carl's Jr., Jack-in-the-Box, and every other fast food restaurant chain.
The suit will seek damages of over 99 Billion for failing to serve food that looked exactly like the photographs on the menu boards and in television commercials. Despite the fact that we voluntarily ate the food in question, we believe we have been defauded of our money because the food wasn't quite as appealing as we were led to believe.

I honestly think people ***** too much for some sort of subliminal negative reflection on there purchase. Nobody put a gun to your head to make such a purchase. I'm sure some of you know how to read the small print before you buy right? If not I'm saddened how ignorant some people are. Big company's are shady as ****, that's why they are loaded. No such thing as a legit salesman. Everyone in general and will ALWAYS look out for themselves first. So the people mad about some bull**** 4g excuse and you hate your EVO, need to stick with cheaper phones.

people who filed this are morons
What lawsuit would they file? All the tools available for a customer to check if "4g" is available are at their disposal. A judge would laugh at them if this somehow made it to a court, which it won't. Just like my customer today who said she is recording me to place me on the news, I sincerely told her I gave her no permission to record and hung up.... idiots.

farewell Nexus S General

i will have plenty of time to handle, talk about, and play with the Nexus S at work. I will not settle for T-Mobile quality coverage so I will not own it.
Unless the AT&T variant drops right away as well...which is nowhere in sight. If it drops 3 months later like i had to wait for N1...i will be abandoning the Nexus line and will replace with my N1 with something else....in 3 months an AT&T Nexus S will be a waste.
color me disappointed. maybe if i was credit challenged i could have a T-Mobile Nexus S. (not a shot at any of you, t-mobile just isnt quality at all around here, in a major city market., you only have it if you cant get approved for a big carrier)

There's always the best Galaxy s phone, the Epic, on sprint
Working for Best Buy Mobile, I deal with costumers from all providers. And I must say AT&T is making harder on themselves. Their customer support has gotten worse, their policies are more strict. They are losing customers left and right. And many of them are ready to jump to VRZ, not just because of the iPhone either. I have T-Mobile, never had a dropped call. I had Cingular/ATT before, and it was drop call after drop call. I live in Philadelphia, and around it's suburbs. AT&T better fix their act. Even Virgin Mobile's 25$ 300minutes with unlimited text/web is looking better now. And they are getting Android phones now too Not to mention ATT's phone lineup is based around the iPhone to reign supreme.
Excellent statement. Totally agree with you.

There is no better choice in NYC. Great voice quality and a solid reliable data network that handles peak usage times and locations better then any of the competition. (VZW also handles them well, but with slower data)

Given their stance on rooting phones you're most likely right. My guess is that HTC (what with their ever harder to unlock bootloaders ala the newest G2s and the Evo Shift 4G) fought it and that Sammy did too. Why they hate rooting and roming so much, I just cannot for the life of me fathom. If they just embraced the dev community (maybe even hired from it) they could increase the performance and desirability of their phones exponentially.
They might be afraid of "loosing control" of their device. Or not getting as much profit from it since software updates would keep it current for longer.
It's purely about profits. It costs money to support a device. Lock the boot loader and you can cancel support when you want and force your user base to a new device. Then you make further profit from device sales, rinse, and repeat. So it's not hard to understand.
Leave the phone open and people don't have to upgrade so soon because communities such as xda keep the device alive.
I don't agree with it but that's the reality. That's why you should stick with the Nexus line.

This. Look at the HD2, or the G1, for example. The HD2 is what, at least two years old? And just look at it, it's got the latest versions of every mobile os out there(other than iOS) on it.
I've got a huge example right here, Samsung's galaxy s line. It took them 7 months to update my version to froyo, and I can pretty much guarantee that I won't get gingerbread till after summer, if at all.

Just heads up Mobilicity in Ottawa SUCKS. They are crooks that tried to overcharge my "wallet" as they call it and reception on the Nexus S was horrible unless i was under plain blue sky. Just saying.
Google was more than disappointed with the results of the nexus s. However the phone was scheduled to launch and it was time to make money. Inside sources have made it rather clear samsung won't be getting another chance with a nexus phone once all build versions of this one are completed. Look for htc to get it back.

Just another quick heads up, between Wind and Mobilicity in the city of Toronto Mobilicity wins hands down, call quality and data stability are 10X better. With Wind any attempts at streaming netflix while tethered fail and stop, same with file downloads greater than 25MB, even Youtube HQ on device > 5 minutes stop completely. Wind has better coverage but the network is half a$$ed. At present time if you have a high use data device like the Nexus S Wind is a fail in Toronto. Just sayin' Switching to Mobilicity saved my Nexus.
I've noticed this lately too, wind sucks balls with data. The coverage is alright but I can't get push notifications on time. How is mobilicity's coverage in the downtown core?

So I called to complain that I only usually get <1Mb download on my "4G" Atrix in NYC, having already updated, hard reset, and gotten a "4G" SIM card, they're sending a replacement one. I really think this is gonna work......................................................................................................................................... *cough*
On the bright side, after talking to many ppl in service I finally spoke to someone who didn't sound like a zombie and actually said that the speeds I am getting weren't the H+ speeds, even said it wasn't even 3G speed.
I *****ed a little, and after a few new phones they decided to let me keep an additional phone and give me a laptop dock for free.
Turns out that one of the errors on their side was they never changed what type of phone I had in their system, therefore disabling my HSDPA.

well when I most likely going to have to call again, Im gonna make sure to get the same guy I talked to last time. Pretty nice they gave a dock and two phones. I would sell all that and get the Infuse and maybe buy a tablet with the profit.

AT&T rep said this about teathering :

he asked what app i used ( i said none of course) and when in reality i didn't hit "hide on PDA net" but he asked if i used MIFI.
( i got out of this by saying i put my sim into another phone and it must have done something odd because the phone was an OLD phone that was having issues)

Most employees of carriers don't really care about you tethering. Sometimes they will tell you to get the sale. Sometimes even if they tell you, the end user is not able to perform the task.
Really, we don't care. Do it if you want. We're not reporting you or notating on your account that you are tethering for free.
This is like the carry threads on CC/OC forums. Like children saying, I open carried today. This guy stared at me and a kid asked if I was a cop. TEHE.
But really, I don't work for ATT. I work for another carrier. Reps would rather earn your trust for you to keep coming back to them. There's a internal war going on with Store Sales Reps and Customer Care / Over the Phone Reps. We'd rather have you deal with us in the store.

But really, I don't work for ATT. I work for another carrier. Reps would rather earn your trust for you to keep coming back to them. There's a internal war going on with Store Sales Reps and Customer Care / Over the Phone Reps. We'd rather have you deal with us in the store.

You have no idea how many customers come in trying to hide the fact that they rooted / jailbroke / have installed tethering apps on their phones.
We really do not care. At all. It's your computer, you know the TOS, do what you want to do.
It only bothers me when they directly lie about it to me and I have to call them out on it....
Ahaha oh I get it now. Yah i posted this when I got home from a physics midterm so that was most likely why. And I actually do have a question every rep i have spoken to Gave me a different answer to this: what does teathering actually cover. Is phone to car Bluetooth teathering? One rep said yes another said no. Would plugging the Asus padphone into its dock (basicly just a bigger screen n battery) be teathering like on he atrix ?)
I even asked my friends mom who works in the corporate part she had almost no idea and said the obvious hotspot answer.
(Sorry for errors still getting used to the prime keybored)

I guess we will see. If AT&T sells the setup, then I would have a hard time imagining us calling that tethering.
But most likely in our system it would be detected as tethering.
We'll see!
How would that be detected? Wouldn't the data be ending at the device? ( I very much dislike what companys have done to data plans) it is still a confusing topic.

one way it can be detected are through packet headers. when you're tethering, all your device is doing is acting as a router. it doesnt modify anything (although i'm sure there's an app for that).
Pdanet? Doesn't it have a hide function? I have heard of that. I do think that u.s carriers are going to start going overboard with this though.

So the other day I was told that ATT could see your tethering through the Wifi Tether app (one that isn't supposed to use standard tethering protocols) is this true?
You guys should shop around with T-Mobile if you are that concerned about tethering. I was offered a plan that was $5 cheaper than the one I'm on two days ago. The new plan would have been unlimited voice/text and 10GB/month data with unlimited tethering. It was offered by the phone CS rep. The price was $55/month. I didn't take it since I don't want to be on contract. He said the normal price of the plan was $65. All I was calling for was to ask when I originally signed up with T-Mobile, since it's been so long that I forgot.
Also, my current plan is 1000 minutes, unlimited text, and unlimited data with tethering for $60/month.
Just food for thought. T-Mobile reps, like any other carrier, could care less whether or not you tether.
