so the update from at&t isn't available yet here in south Florida, & i wasn't about to be left out of this upload speed liberation.. lol thanks to dew.man, i didn't have to wait. the mod was fairly straight forward.. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1052914
RSD lite worked like a charm.. didn't remove my sim card or SD card, everything is working fine.. gingerblur 2.5
got one outrageous 32Mbps upload speed.. that would be nice! lol.. But for the most part, i'm getting better upload speeds now. i know for sure my u/l speed never came anywhere near 1Mbps on cellular network before. i have not noticed any heat problems.. i even flashed back to the shipping radio to compare temps.. only rise in temperature was when the speed test app froze while testing the u/l speed.. as soon as i killed the process, temp went back to normal which on my phone seems to be about 40°C
anyways, before the mod.. there would be a noticeable wait just sending text messages with emoticons..in areas with poor coverage i knew not to use any emoticons because the message simply wouldnt send.. horrible lol.. now, i sent 2 emails with screenshots & they sent almost instantly.. i'd say its pretty amazing
btw.. i posted this entirely in webtop on my high def tv via the hdmi hack.. gotta love it
The battery drain is crazy tho.
And the gps lock is slower, by quite a bit

I can't say I've experienced either of those issues.. I am on gingerblur 2.5 so I don't have most of the motoblur stuff running. As for GPS, I just tested it.. Got a quick & accurate lock using facebook places while I was out at the gym, and google navigation got a lock within seconds on my ride home. I'd suggest trying to isolate the issues by flashing back to the shipping radio & doing some tests. There's some informative apps for battery monitoring & gps status for rooted devices

Noticed over the past month my upload speed took a dump on AT&T wireless.
I finally confirmed it by getting a sim card out of a friends AT&T data card. With his sim, I can get over 1.5Mbit UPLOAD with the isp.cingular APN, when I switched back to wap.cingular (for smartphones), I can't get above 0.2 Mbit upload.
Please note, DOWNLOAD does not seem to be affected (as much). This is still a real ***** if you want to upload anything at all. I mean it use it pound 1.5 up all day long.
I called AT&T business care and they all but confirmed it, I was given a very dumbed down explanation of "data cards are locking on to a better signal". Translation, wap.cingular APN is now being throttled. I don't think this has been rolled out in all markets yet so YMMV.
I made a post about this on howard forums, but I wanted other AT&T users here to download speedtest.net from the market and confirm, or see what areas are affected.
Those that have access to a data card sim, and can switch to isp.cingular, you're input would be greatly appreciated.
http://www.howardforums.com/showthread.php?t=1641557&page=1&pp=15
Other notes... no proxy. Switched between isp.cingular and wap.cingular about 5 times to confirm. It's very consistent.

upload was 1.4Mbps today. I ran a few tests at work on lunch and normal speeds both up and down. man I love the nexus!
Off of Chicago's 3G service I've been hit or miss on the upload. About 75% of the time it is less than 200k, other times it's well over 1-1.5 mbps. When it is below 200k it seems to start higher and then get scaled back below 200k on the speed test.

Welcome to Sprint, the NOT Network
or
Welcome to Sprint, The Now UNnetwork.
sprint and slow speeds/spotty service go hand in hand.
to be truthful, people have reported that an unrooted stock phone does better in the same location than a rooted phone.
but others have reported no difference.
for me its a mixed bag but the difference is minor, minor enough that you can chaulk it up to margin or error.
my speeds in my town are fracking all over the spectrum, and i mean that. it's never the same form hour to hour.
and worst of all at my work location and the surrounding 3/4 to 1 mile radius is in a Data Dead Zone, there is almost no data for some reason, but plenty of signal. and when i go into my building i start to roam, and i get faster speeds roaming than i do if i walk outside and get full bars.
That should be a new acronym, DDZ - Data Dead Zone.
now i have never taken the wife on a drive with me to test her unrooted phone at my work area, but plan to soon.
I know that I got a little bit better 3g speeds at home before rooted, and I don't know if it was because I moved to 2.2, but my 4G speeds have went down alot, and hardly work, though thats how it was before, but for a week or so it was perfect 5mb/s, but now I can't have consistant speeds, it gets down to like 1mb/s now, and doesn't even top 2mb/s.
I did a quick, unscientific, test the other day in my house comparing my 3G to 4G speeds. I sat in the exact same spot and ran the speedtest and my 4G speeds were 1.07mb and my 3G speeds were 1.03mb..........Pretty dissappointing.
I never gone past 140 kbs on download on 3g here in wisconsin with 3g.. it be nice if they come out with 4g support to cover most customers when they comeout with a phone made for 4g.. i tried the whole list of cities and at different times.. top speed of 140 kbs.

It very well could be degregated performance in NYC. I know awhile back ATT was telling their customers to use wifi whenever possible because of the network congestion:
http://www.cnn.com/2010/TECH/mobile/05/25/att.free.wifi.nyc.cnet/index.html
I live in the chicago suburbs and around my house 4G and 3G speeds are terrible. However, if I venture about 5 minutes out, towards the elgin area specifically, I have seen speeds of up to 11mbs. Its just a little dissapointing that I appear to be on some crummy fringe area, but if I drive a couple miles out my speeds improve SO much.

I have read all of the PRI threads and really don't know if that is a cause for slow speeds or not. The problem I have is that I can do a speed test 5 times in a row and get 5 completely different results. A couple of nights ago I did about 6 speed tests over a 1 hour period. they ranged from 296 kbps down to 2198 kbps down (all on 3g). I just think that Sprints network, at least where I live is pretty unreliable.

We also have across the bay in Hayward. More coverage toward the hills @ on CSU Hayward. At School I was getting 8900kbps down and 1200kbps up. Fast as hell. I believe they have many towers near college campuses, as my friend get full 4g bars at San Jose State as well.
I went to download my first podcast today. It's about 25 MB and it's taking like 10 minutes to download. I tried a diff. podcast from a diff. site and the same slowness. I have full signal strength. Does Tmobile have some kind of restriction to speeds of downloading?
It's my first 3G enabled device so it's hard to say, but it seems like the internet is bit slow to me.. It takes quite some time to open full site like xda, for example. I don't know if that's normal, so that's my question.
I want to exchange it before 30 days if this is a problem.. but it seems like the internet is not up to speed.

You shouldn't be getting limited. Grab the speed test app off the market and see what it measures your speed at. I get 3-5 mbit at my home most of the time, sometimes faster, and I've never experienced a speed limit when downloading a file.
I got Download: 217kbps Upload: 59 kbps with speedtest.net.
With other units I got: Download: 0.15Mbps and Upload: 0.10
I have 4 full bars for signal.
I tried this with my Virgin Mobile Intercept and I got Download: 1.02 Mbps and Upload: 0.17 Mbps
Something is definitely wrong. I am running Trinity Kernel with CM7 rom. Would this problem be with my phone or with TMobile?

NAND it and then go back to stock to see if it changes, that would be my suggestion.
You have 4 full bars, but do you have the 3G icon displaying? Is it green?
Your speeds sound like you're stuck on EDGE.
Perhaps try cycling the 2G only setting on and off...
do a speed test and see what you are getting.
Out of interest are you in the uk? As I know T-Mobile restricted there data speeds for those that brought the nexus s form a third party seller like the carphone warehouse.

This is true, but does this include the Nexus S, if it does include the NS then that is disgusting because the NS is only available from Carphone Warehouse in the UK, you can't get the NS directly from T-Mobile UK or any carrier for that matter as it is sold as unlocked and unbranded, so we have no other choice but to buy from a third party like Carphone Warehouse.
I know some people had to call T-Mobile when they got there phone because of slow internet speeds, something to do with the wrong data plan code.

Actually I had the exact same issue. I never check that setting so when my phone wouldn't switch off edge I took it into T-Mobile. Must say I felt very intelligent.

I agree its rubbish as they only sell through third party places. I had to call tmobile and complain about the data speed, they said that because I was not on the web and walk plus package that comes as standered with their Android phones when brought direct from them I would get a cap on my data.
The web and walk plan is am extra 5 quid a month but if you complain and make a point you use a lot of data, its the reason you use tmobile ect..... they sometimes upgrade you for free.
It took about 20 mins on the phone them but I managed it in the end.

Glad to see it was a simple fix. Sometimes we all forget to check the easy things as the first steps in troubleshooting!
I recently switched from ATT. Before I switched, I had my Dell streak and Nexus S both active. Every speed test I did, Tmobile blew away ATT, sometimes by almost 1mbs. There were even instances where I had less bars on the Nexus, and it still beat the Streak, which was on ATT.
Granted that this is the new Galaxy S 4G and there is not a place for us yet, just wanted to post this to see what others are getting.

i dont put 3g icon as wi fi icon to get those speeds .
what do you mean? I'm overclocked a bit thats why my speeds higher
He is saying your faking it because on HSPA+ I max out around 1800 kbps..
I jsut did a test on my unlocked vibrant and got 1401 kbps down and 1331 upload on 3g(H is showing).

I cant upload my shootme images.... Getting 4891 down 2945 up. 30 miles south of Chicago.
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
on 3g average 2.5-4.0 down and 1.8-2.6 up
On wifi I get 6-19 down and 3.6-5 up
I live on the north side of Chicago. I recent got 5.37 Mbps down, 3.30 Mbps up. That's my best upload, and my best download is 6.02 Mbps.
Generally, I get 2-3 Mbps down and a little over 1 Mbps up. Yes this is 3G, not WiFi, and it's the original Vibrant (KB1 modem).
I just ran the app and thats wut it said, should I post a video? My score was in kbps though not mbps ill try all settings so theres no confusion.
Heres mbps on 3g

buddy, that's entirely INCORRECT. Internet speeds have absolutely nothing to do with ClockSpeeds.
I didnt even know what the app was testing, saw people using it so I did a quick test n posted like a noob, but I would like to add that having your phone perform faster helps with downloads in many ways, my device never brought up internet pages as fast as it does now, market blinks on, n downloads go from 10% to 45% then 100% in seconds. I did alot more than OC the processor but it was the frosting on the cake
