Broke 6Mb/s (Post your 4G Records)

I just broke 6Mb/s, go figure the area I achieved this amazing speed isn't even listed to have 4G. See Map
Originally I had 3Mb/s in Chicago and now I only get 1.5Mb/s in the office.

Nice! I assume that was outside? I still haven't tried out my 4G outside where it is supposedly better. I know the signal sucks indoors.

I've gotten 2-4Mbps inside, but then again location really matters.

fastest i've got outside was 7.3 Mb/s in plano texas...dont have a screen shot though i randomly tried after dinner

fastest ive gotten in chicago is my sig... that was downtown, usually by my house near midway i get about 3-4 Mbps

plano??? i've been trying in dallas and i can BARELY get a bar of 4G. sounds like i need to run up to plano and check it out!

Dont have a screen, but got 8.14 while tethering to my laptop and downloading a torrent file. i consistently get 4-5 mbs per sec. while downloading using wifi tether on my laptop. I've noticed that in general my scores use the speedtest app aren't quite as good as it seems the bandwith ramps up after a little bit of usage. Ofcourse it fluctuates throughout, but I've noticed some pretty good speeds while i was downloading an 800 meg torrent file. The file took about 20 minutes to download which i consider pretty good for a completely wireless data transmission.

I got 700 kbps downstream once.....true story.

He probably meant 700 kilobytes/s. You were probably disappointed by 700 kilobits/s. 700 kilobytes/s is 5.6 megabits/s.

Na, he's in Indy, we dont have 4G yet. I'm sitting on a 14kbps (yes, thats 14 kilobits/s) connection right now. Read 'em and weep suckaaaas

Those speeds are just evil!

those are such great speed and as i posted in another thread, one of my 4g speed tests resulted in 63kbps down and 924kbps up and i had 3 full bars at the time....i wonder if some these units dont have some sort of damage because really the best ive gotten was 2769 up and 865 down and i live in fresno tx which for some odd reason (its a small small town) its almost saturated in 4g

oh trust me i hardly get a good connection...but when im outside the most ive gotten was 2 bars...i dont understand why b/c on the sprint usb thing (dont know what its called) for 4g/3g i got 3 of 4 bars on 4g with no issues Inside my house...that was before the evo came out and got me really excited for the evo...but now i cant get 4g from the same exact location i tested the usb thing from...any explanations?

4871 down 1890 up. Ookla speed test app with wifi off.

N Puerto Rico hspa is new, I ran 3mb and .5

I average 4500 to 5500 down and 550 to 650 up.
In really good areas I can get 7000+ down. But I haven't tried speed test in a lot of different areas in my city yet.
I can't wait until the network is fully up and running.

I've tested everywhere from 0.12Mbps and 9.1Mbps, but typical is between 4 and 7Mbps. Uploads are fairly consistently between 1.5 and 1.75Mbps.

Does the title of this thread bother anyone else? Bandwidth and speed are two different (yet related) things.
ANYWAY...I'm getting 3-4Mbps down and 1.5Mbps up most of the time. Every once in awhile I'll see my download speed jump up to 6-9Mbps. Upload is constant for me.

I'm in Dallas where hspa + is already available, but using three speed test app the fastest download speed I've been able to get is about 2.5 mbs.
I just got the mytouch, but this seems to be slower than what I've seen reported. Anyone having similar issues, or know of a possible fix in the settings?

i wish the mt4g had a icon for 4g. i tried it in ontario where they claim to have 4g, but was only able to get a max download/upload speed of 3/2mb.

Same in Houston. 3meg is the fastest I've been able to get

I've been getting 2-3 Mbps tops in Boston, a supposed HSPA+ city, though I haven't tried all over town or in Cambridge. But I was in Chicago last week and topped 7 Mbps in one location. So I just think it varies widely with exact location. Probably all it takes to call a city HSPA+ is a few cell towers with peak theoretical speeds of 14 or 21 Mbps or whatever.

Well, seems it' still not quite up to snuff in Houston. Best I've been able to get is 3.94 Mbps down (I saw that kind of speed on my 3g Vibrant).
After some phone calls and other investigations, I am thinking that their "4g" network isn't as all encompassing as the coverage map shows.
Accessing the testing menu, I can see that I am on either UMTS or HSDPA network, both of which are 3g (according to Tmo tech support).
So, just to make sure my phone wasn't the problem (was already refreshed on the network a couple of time by tech support and even did a master reset) I went down to a Tmo store that was shown to be in 4G coverage area and checked out a MT4G and G2. Neither of them showed connection to HSPA ot HSPA+.
So, dissappointing for sure, but I guess the phone was free (replaced my Vibrant) I can't complain.

You can call tech care with your speed test results and we submit a ticket to have engineers check it out. It's at least worth a try.

Contacted tech support this morning and they are supposed to check out the problem in a wide area.
My wife gets her MT4G Wednesday, so I will have another phone to go by. Obviously if hers sees the HSPA/HSPA+ network and mine doesn't I'll know it's my phone or a setting of some sort within.
I guess it just bugs me since the MYT4G and G2 I checked out also display 3g network connectivity in what is supposed to be 4g coverage area.

I'm in Salt Lake City where the coverage map shows 4g. I have gotten 3 to 4 Mbps speeds before 5 am. However, during the day, I'm getting around 2 mbps or less. My big problem is the coverage. When it drops from H to E, the browsing locks up. It:s like I get 3/4G or nothing. Has anyone else experienced this?
My AT&T Captivate runs almost as fast on 3G networks during the day, but it even gets just under 200 kbps on E. What gives? One of my employees has the MT4G also and find that E doesn't work either.

There are other factors that have to be considered as well, such as how many users are connected to a tower at any given time. HSDPA/HSPA+ is a shared data-link, much like your home internet connections. At home, I average between 2 and 4mbps downloads. There are times (usually REALLY late at night or early in the morning) where i've seen 8mbps and once 11mbps download speeds. I'm not quite sure I would have seen these speeds with my ro.ril.hsdpa.category set to 8 as it is in CM because that would indicate a cap in download speeds of 7.2mbps.
Then again, I could be completely wrong and none of this means anything. Just food for thought.

I also live in Dallas, but I commute 60 miles a day (roundtrip) and test all over the place. DFW Airport is supposed to be a HSPA+ hotbed. True to form, I get better speeds there and in Grapevine than most other places (with the exception of Frisco at times).

Typically i'm around 5Mbps i've maxed out @ 8.4Mbps down.

What part of cincy are you in? Where about do you test? I currently have the mytouch 4g on cincinnati bell. I tested an employees tmobile sim card at work and only got 3.4 not too good. Average was barely 1.2mbps or so. CBW I typically get around 2.8 plus at work and 2.3 at home.

I went to a Tmo store and asked where the closest 4g tower is located.. He told me.. I was within 30 feet of it and only pulled like 1.3.. kind of disappointing..
I live in orlando.. and we are covered by 4g.. so they say..
at my house we only get Edge or G .. not even 3 g.. it is horrible..

Just so you know just BC the tower is within 30 feet doesn't mean its faster. Actually it will probably be slower; think of the tower as just the placeholder the signal is focused outward and doesn't beam down beside it BC usually nothing is right under it. When I had Verizon there was a tower on my roof at my apt but I had no signal directly below.

Ok..so I'm still on stock 4.1.83..rooted...anyway..i still did not see an improvement on my downloads..my top down speed is about 2mb..st louis area...any one else???

I live in the STL too and i usually get 1-4 down and 0-1.7 up. But when I'm in the county areas like south or West count around 270 or 70 I've gotten any where between 3-9 down and 1-2 up.

Good to see some fellow Saint Louisans on the forum. I get similar speeds, but it also depends on which server I use in the SpeedTest app. If I use default STL, I get the above speeds (usually not higher than 4 down though). If I connect to Springfield, MO, I get close to 10MBPS DOWN, while still getting the throttled upload speed (~.15 MBPS). Weird behavior, but it has happened often.

They must of flipped the switch today. I just got a 813 kb/s down with a 1.2 up. I am in Desoto about 30 miles south of St.L

I get similar, 1.5 to 2 download max and up to 1.5 upload. Most of the time it is much lower though.

What was your maximum hspa+ speed?

I have a Samsung galaxy s3 I9300 for a couple of months now and can't seem to get more than 9mbits down and 3mbits up in hspa+ (H+) speed tests. I am beginning to think it is a modem limitation.

Well, I had 6.7 down and 3.1 up; i guess it really depends on the career and the server u make the test. And also about how busy is the closest relay and how busy is it...there are many variables here.

With mine i get often 10mbits down and 2.5 up
I would love to get some more speed, but I'm uncertain if it's a limitation of the phone or a cap of the service provider.
Perhaps someone can shed some light on the radio in the I9300 and what it's capable of.

S3 i9300 is capable of 21.6 Mbps
But most people will never reach that speed as it depends on carrier/relay/...

i got 19.11mbs the other day!

No speed difference but for downloads/4k ultra high definition video etc I would suspect.
Not sure if 'latency' is improved or not (doubt it) Like ADSL1 has a lower latency than ADSL2. I suspect it's in a similar situation, damn physics...

Really?! I thought 21mbits was merely theoretical and that no one was capable of getting more than15mbits or something like that.

yep, gti 9300 s3. my area has amazing hspa+ speeds but at that speed, you burn through data like a rocket.

mine is never more than 4Mb/s

I only get around 1.4mbps H+ download on Orange UK in my area. Absolutely rubbish. Maximum I have seen is about 2.5mpbs

On HSPA+ my top score was just over 10Mbps in London.... My mate is on Vodafone and never got even close to 10Mbps so I don't believe you..
Now I'm using Three on DC-HSPA+ (up to 42Mbps) and best so far was over 18Mbps.... (screenshot)
I've seen ppl getting up to 20Mbps on Three DC... but never as fast on normal HSPA+...

On the 3 UK network, I normally get 6-7Mbs downloads and occassionally I get up to 13Mbs.

what would be the benefits of having download rate of 3mbps or higher on a mobile phone? other than to tether. if latency was low like LAN internet i would never subscribe to LAN type internet.
