Noticed over the past month my upload speed took a dump on AT&T wireless.
I finally confirmed it by getting a sim card out of a friends AT&T data card. With his sim, I can get over 1.5Mbit UPLOAD with the isp.cingular APN, when I switched back to wap.cingular (for smartphones), I can't get above 0.2 Mbit upload.
Please note, DOWNLOAD does not seem to be affected (as much). This is still a real ***** if you want to upload anything at all. I mean it use it pound 1.5 up all day long.
I called AT&T business care and they all but confirmed it, I was given a very dumbed down explanation of "data cards are locking on to a better signal". Translation, wap.cingular APN is now being throttled. I don't think this has been rolled out in all markets yet so YMMV.
I made a post about this on howard forums, but I wanted other AT&T users here to download speedtest.net from the market and confirm, or see what areas are affected.
Those that have access to a data card sim, and can switch to isp.cingular, you're input would be greatly appreciated.
http://www.howardforums.com/showthread.php?t=1641557&page=1&pp=15
Other notes... no proxy. Switched between isp.cingular and wap.cingular about 5 times to confirm. It's very consistent.

upload was 1.4Mbps today. I ran a few tests at work on lunch and normal speeds both up and down. man I love the nexus!
Off of Chicago's 3G service I've been hit or miss on the upload. About 75% of the time it is less than 200k, other times it's well over 1-1.5 mbps. When it is below 200k it seems to start higher and then get scaled back below 200k on the speed test.

Didn't seem to be the case last time I ran speedtest....d/l and u/l were practically identical. I would run it again right now, but I'm on 802.11 atm and the numbers I get are, obviously, drastically different on wireless than on 3G. I'd turn off 802.11, but I use y5 to remember what locations I have wireless on, and I'm oddly worried it might "forget" to turn it back on next time...lol.

Dont have a screen, but got 8.14 while tethering to my laptop and downloading a torrent file. i consistently get 4-5 mbs per sec. while downloading using wifi tether on my laptop. I've noticed that in general my scores use the speedtest app aren't quite as good as it seems the bandwith ramps up after a little bit of usage. Ofcourse it fluctuates throughout, but I've noticed some pretty good speeds while i was downloading an 800 meg torrent file. The file took about 20 minutes to download which i consider pretty good for a completely wireless data transmission.

Well depending on the location and time of the day, i get download speeds between 250kbps to 1100 kbps and uploads between 150 to 450kbps.
Way better than t-mobiles piss ass speeds of 20kbps inside the house and work. If you need 3g speeds u need to go stand outside the building..

the thing to remember when asking about dl and ul speeds on the intercept is also it was cheated in many departments one of those being radio. it's a EVDO rev. 0 not the newer, faster EVDO rev. A radio. This also limits the speeds you'll get compared to your vibrant. As always your mileage will vary based on signal strength as well
Roughly Los Angeles area here (San Fernando Valley to be more precise) and I get anywhere from 600-1400 down and about a consistent 120 up.

Should not be a data cap on speed, just bandwidth. 5Gb per billing cycle.
Edit: Lucky, I only get about 3Mbs on Wi-Fi and I am paying my cable company for 5Mbs. On cell the my worst is 190Kbs, but my best is only 761Kbs -and that only happened once. The other six times I tested over the last three months it was right at 200Kbs
^ What he said. Never heard of a speed cap. That would blow. I saw just about 6mbps yesterday in a good area so I know its not capped at 4.9.
The data cap however is 5GB/mo, and I am throttled to 0.06mbps on my regular tmo APN as a result of going over. Thankfully we have a workaround for the throttle using a different tmo APN.
Cap or hardware limitation? The highest I've personally seen on mine is 6.02 down. I'm pretty sure the hardware limitation is about 7

The Samsung Vibrant has a maximum network speed of 7.2Mbps. Which is the equivalent of like 800-900 kb/s actual download speed. I live in Tacoma, Washington and my speedtest is usually around 6 or so Mbps. So even without the "4G" it's still damn fast. Considering most home internet connections are around 2.7-4.2 Mbps.

How do you figure?
The only thing I can figure is that you are confusing Kilo Bits per second with Kilo Bytes per second and failing to use the correct labels to differentiate between them. A Byte is 8 Bits so 7.2Kbs is 900KBs, however you stated Mbs which still puts you off by 1000bps. That is a full Meg per second off and 5 X more than I get over the air just in your error margin.
14Mb per sec on wifi...
I have 20Mb service at home and the fastest that my vibrant will download at is 14.4Mb
On 3G the fastest i've hit was a little over 5Mb. It's funny that my 3G phone is almost as fast as Verizon's 4G which they're showing as 7Mb. Verizon's 3G on my DroidX has never hit speeds over 1Mb. Sad. My 3G phone is as fast as Sprints 4G. Lol.

Nah I think he's right. 7.2 Mb's = .09MB (almost 1MB per second) 1Mb = 1/8MB so he was right when he said 900KB although he put kb (lowercase)
For instance at home on my 20Mb connection I can only really download at 2.5MB's per second.
**edit** looks like VZW's LTE should be able to hit 42Mb's but no phone out right now will come anywhere near those speeds.
I love how this has turned into a nerdier version of the "their/there/they're" argument.
That being said, technically the k should be lower case, not uppercase.

Caldwell, yes Cable One. Are you one of their fiber customers? That is not available out here yet. The only other time I have seen Cable one offer 10Mb was to business customers, and that is a totally different subsidiarity of Cable One.
Edit: I just checked their packages and it looks like they have changed them. Still, if they can't provide my full rate now I would just be paying more for the same connection. I am in an old bundle.

yeah, it's just updated and doesn't cost much more, same modem and everything i just called and upgraded. then i wasn't getting much for improved speeds so i called them and evidently the line to my house somehow got mangled so they replaced it (free). i'd call them and ***** if you aren't getting your speeds because i almost always get full 10 down regardless of peak hours.
but sadly qwest is cheaper and faster, but where i live (sw boise) qwest doesn't even offer service so cableone is my only non-dialup/non-clear option. but cableone hasn't been too bad, for internet at least, tv and customer service is a whole other issue. lol.

764 down, 642 up. 4g wasn't much better, but I wsas surprised it even connected at home (never had before). Not sure how accurate the app is tho... the instant results where all over the place with 4g speed bursting over 3Mbps for a fraction of a second.
Edit: 1 bar 4g, 2-4 bars 3g.
Edit 2: somethings definately not right... kinda doubt its the modem. I ran the test on wifi, and the best I got as 6433Kbps down & 1514Kbps up... I have 12x1.5 uverse and a test on my laptop yielded 10Mbps/1.5Mbps off the same server.

Thanks for this tip! I've always had crappy network speeds since they reintroduced the new "unlimited" plans (in my area it went from getting 50 Mbps down to like 2 Mbps) after that. And of course Verizon refuses to accept they did anything on their end to cause the decrease in speed. But anyways on my 6T I was getting around 4 Mbps down and after changing to LTE/CDMA/UMTS (Auto) I'm pulling around 20 Mbps down!
I have a tower behind me a few hundred yards. Just pulled 80 down and 11 up. Same network settings.
I am getting similar speeds to what I got on my G7.

No problem, but just a fair warning sometimes the phone will automatically revert itself back to the other one because of the"auto"status of this version. I was experimenting more and found the permanent fix to be changing it to "LTE/WCDMA"
Seems to be hit or miss for me. The other day I got this (https://www.speedtest.net/result/a/4400707884) 70 down and 20 up. But then sometimes I wont get more than 5. Still definitely faster than my note 8 ever was tho. I love this phone man.
