i had my phone shut off and just turned it back on and i have this huge white out spot on my lcd near where the keyboard pops up. you can plainly see it on a white background. i know it didn't get wet because it is in a body glove case.
anyways i pulled the back cover off and there is no water damage sticker on the phone at all, just on the battery. and it doesn't show it got wet at all. are new phones shipping without them because i may have to take this back for an exchange and i don't want to be accused of getting it wet.
also what is the latest 2.2 version these phone ship with, so i can run the RUU if need be.
It's a screen defunct. I have it on my phone as well, probably almost the same exact spot. You can try and get them to replace the phone for you, doesn't really bother me too much so I didn't bother trying to get a new one.

well i just bought the phone 2 days ago so im sure i can go in an exchange it. the area is large, it wasn't there when i shut my phone off earlier. my issue is my phone does not have a water indicator sticker on the body itself.
They will tell you because its missing the warranty is voided, happened to me when I brought my old touch pro 2 in.

good to know, maybe they stopped doing it? i know there's one on the battery. anyways it seems to be a bit worse, it looks horrid, the bottom half of my lcd is brighter than the top half.
does anybody know what version of droid these ship with? like the latest shipped sprint RUU so i can flash it in the morning and unroot?
i hate dealing with sprint, took me alot to get my evo, if they give me **** ill just sell the darn thing as is or replace the lcd myself. maybe i just wont say a word and return it and get an epic instead. i know how sprint corporate stores can be.

seems alot of these phones have issues. im just worried they are going to try to blame me for this. i just have a sticky "no water" screen protector on it. i may just call sprint and have them ship me out a new replacement.
If u still on the 30 day trial they will do anything to keep you trust me i have one evo out of contract to improve signal where i work they even gave me a free. Airave and if they give trouble just say im gonna cancel my contract and see how they change.

I just noticed a dead pixel on my phone... Such a bummer... Tomorrow I gotta get up early since I got my phone online.... Send it back and go to my local tmobile with the shipping slip so they can give me a new phone on the spot. This was the instructions given to me from tmobile on the phone. Hopefully everything goes smooth... Ive only owned my red monster for 3 freakin days dude!! :-(

Had to ship my phone back to tmobile after only a few hours of use. There was a dead LED under the home button. I had to ship it back to tmobile and they reshipped the phone 2nd day air to me. Wish they would have told me to go to the tmobile store to pick up the replacement.
Yeah... In fact I just did my double check phone call and now there saying only "certain" T-Mobile stores do exchanges like the way the Person I spoke to first stated. Now I gotta call t-mobile back in the morning so they can call a store that does do exchanges as long as I have a packing slip... ahh I smell a disaster lol

My phone bricked itself, but...
It might have been my fault. I got the phone from Wirefly for $75. I have had an HTC Aria since the summer and loved it, but found myself craving a bigger screen and loved the idea of WiFi calling, android 2.2 and a better camera. Unfortunately, I had problems from the beginning. At first my signal kept cycling between edge and hspa with 1 bar. Then, an ota started. I thought it completed, but I may have inadvertently left the house while it was downloading. At some point while I was on my way from Austin to Houston, the phone started cycling on and off. By the time I got to Houston, it was bricked I sent it back to Wirefly and cancelled my T-Mobile account.
i took back my white one, i had a lot of creaking on that phone at the bottom of it and plus i ended up wanting the black one over time. got tired of the white one. but here in cali u got 30 days to return ur phone after u bought it from the tmobile store, so im glad for that. if it was 14 days i would have been screwed lol. but they took my phone no problem, i just told them i wanted a black one and thats it.

That sounds very strange. I've not heard anyone else have that problem. Plus, the OTA is downloaded over the Tmob network so leaving the house shouldn't have caused anything.
I may have to exchange mine as the ffc appears to be off center (to the right).

Dude, now that you're saying that I too notice that my ffc is off to the right and not in the center JK bro, I'm pretty sure it's meant to be that way
I returned my first black one for a white one when the black one hit FC city loadin up the Faves widget
Then... returned the white (after S-Off) for another white due to creaking at the bottom!
On the 3rd one now (last exchange TMO will give me) and it feels just right
Had to send back my first one because it had two dead pixels. My ffc was also off to the right.
Got my new one today only to realize the minute i got home under better light that there are two more dead pixels. My ffc is now in the dead center.
Any advice? aren't we only able to get two returns through the t-mobile store? i know if i send it into t-mobile for any reason they'll just send me back a refurbished one

Are you within your remorse period? if so... return the ***** completely and buy it else where. and don't feel bad about it... if you are going to pay this much for a device and presumably have it for 2 years... it better be perfect now... cuz it won't get any better.

Yes, I technically have 13 days of remorse since I had to get the second phone. I have to drive 1.5 hours just for the nearest tmobile store so I called the call center and they are sending me another replacement. I just have the sick feeling that what they are going to send me is a good ol' refurb just like they do every damn time you send your phone in and they "send you a new one." this phone is perfect so far but if it has 2 dead pixels out of the box i can only imagine it will continue to get worse.

Dont worry so much..
It's way too early in the product life-cycle to get refurbs. Believe me, it takes time to get them to the centers, inspect them, do what ever repairs are necessary and recertify them and supply TMO. Supply chain cannot fulfill this fast since the device has only been out for ~2 weeks. That's one benefit of adopting early.
Just a few hours ago i was ready to buy a 7.7. I went to this supplier i have been getting phones from for the longest time. Tried out 3 units, all had dead pixels. Then went to the mall. Tried the samsung shop and 2 units had dead pixels. Got frustrated and bought a 7.0 plus instead. What a let down. :-( Samsung's quality control is really poor. :-(
I really wanted the 7.7 but I couldn't bring myself to buy a defective unit. For such an expensive device I expect the very best.
Anyway I guess any new buyers should always use the screen test. We shouldn't let Samsung get away with letting subpar units out of the factory.
I guess I'll just stick with this till they iron out whatever qc problems they have.

I think you are the unlucky one.
I never see a phone with dead pixel for a long long time.
I think I tested more than 7 units of tab 7.7 (mine + friends' + other people's when they buying) and all have no screen issue at all.
I'm a dead/bright pixel freak too, screen is the first think I test on any new units. ^^
You may try to look for 7.7 again, I'm certain you'll fine a good one ^^

It surely objective, looking for a dead pixel is very easy and clear cut. If there is one, there is. If there is none there is none.
The first batch selling here (Thailand) made in Vietnam.

You need to look by yourself.
Main colors are Red Green and Blue.
You can simply display white and if there is no pixel with strange color(non white) then you should be fine.
Or you can display main colors one by one and see if there is any black pixel.
Could this be a problem of where you're buying from? Are these sellers unboxing new units for you to examine or is the LCD test revealing dead pixels on display models (which are subjected to levels of abuse and non-maintenance that would screw up devices from any manufacturer)?
It seems a new model from a reputable dealer (with a clear return policy concerning issues such as dead pixels) would be a safe route to getting the machine you want. Calling Samsung out as being negligent on QC protocol seems unfair based on a single dealer and problems at the mall.

I read all of the screen issues on here and was dreading getting a faulty unit with screen defects but luckily mine is flawless (so far!) have been using honeybar to hide the bar to avoid burn in but so far all clear (fingers crossed!) got mine from panamoz - non 3g version - delighted so far

One dead pixel is not tolerable anywhere in the world, so you should be entitled to get a replacement, but I am not sure about the customer right in Philippines.
Anyway 7+ is not that bad at all. In retrospective I would have bought a 7+ if not for the decent weight and shape of 7.7.
However, I do agree with you that Samsung should improve their QC. I have to live with the compass miscalibration problem because I can't not part with my 7.7 for repairment.

Samsung actually does allow warranties and replacements for 1 dead pixel in the Philippines but they do let you know that the policy is 3-5 depending on the device.

Im gonna say it again, samsung ph will accept warranty claims on a single dead pixel on their highend devices. I've been there and I've done it, lots of friends and other forumers over at TCP has done with with the Samsung Wave and Galaxy S2.
For HDTV's its case to case basis, 1 dead pixel smack at the middle is an automatic replacement, deadpixels on the sides require about 3 but Im sure they will it with out issues in recently purchased devices, it can be considered as DoA.
Hey guys, help a noob out? I bought a Nexus 4 from craigslist for $650 because my order is in limbo level 3 right now. The phone was brand new, nothing was opened as far as I can tell. So after using it for a few hours I noticed the yellowish tint so many of you mentioned on here and now the phone won't even turn on. I called Google and they said they cannot honor the warranty since I didn't originally purchase it from the Google Play store and I should take it back to the person who sold it to me? Seriously, take it back to the craigslist guy? To my understanding when you purchase a product the remaining manufacturer's warranty transfers over to the person who bought it? Google has been such an arse about this whole Nexus 4 thing, I'm seriously considering sticking with Apple, smh! Any suggestions?

As for the warranty maybe you can talk top the seller. I doubt he will give you your money back back maybe he can transfer the warranty.
Good lesson in life either way though about having a little patience.. Sorry friend. I hope it works out for you..

I tried to get in touch with this guy but he's not responding. He probably knew about the issue or no longer cares now that he has his money. You'll be better off then limbo level. I am sure they have a service center in the states, and I bet they attempt to connect to it, Won't be able, stick it in the parts bin and then send you off a referb.
You at least "know" what is happening. Some them limbo's are clueless on what is happening.
I find this amusing. First AFAIK Google does not transfer warranties. In fact if you lookup the terms and conditions, you must have and "Maintain" a Google wallet account to get Google warranty. That said, when they sold out in 20 minutes, I looked on Ebay and there was a listing where in big bold red letters stated Google has a no questions asked warranty. I thought it was a horrible misrepresentation. ANyway...Good luck.

You planned to make $650 back? Where are you located that they're going for $650? A 16GB in Chicago is hardly fetching $495 on CL.

I just bought mine off of Fleabay for $449.99 including shipping. I figured it was worth the extra $63.09 to get it a month and a half sooner.
Replacement of Nexus 4

Yeah I called them and they agreed to replace /service it. While that's good news, there is no express replacement service so I'll have to send the phone in and wait for them to mail out another one. It's e waiting game that I can't play

Hi there, I found your post on xda-developers forum and as I have the same issue - bought expensive phone from Kijiji and now have a brick, I want to see how to go about it. Google said they will 'transfer warranty' but then days later they said it was an error. LG is saying to call Google and are quite rude about it. The phone was new from never opened box bought in February?
How did you do? Did you get a repaired or a new phone? And do you have any advice in dealing with LG?
Thanks,
Bianca (I am in Toronto, Canada)
Long story short, dropped the phone and shattered the screen. Digitizer dead so touch screen doesn't work!
Yesterday was the last day I could have put the insurance on it so I cant take it back to Best Buy or anything.
Called LG and they said I have to send it in but i don't wanna imagine how much hey will charge me.
Anybody know if they sell the digitizers separate to buy to replace the screen?
Any help will be appreciated

I got a error when I went to the link
Go to eBay and type d802 digitizer (or d801)

But is it compatible with the D800 AT&T version?
Man I hate buying things from China haha I always feel uncomfortable because I've had bad experiences lol

To be honest I heard the screen replacement was 120-180... might just want to send it in....

Yeah I asked but they didn't wanna mention a price at all because they want me to send it in and they wanna see it. But you can clearly see that the LCD isn't broken, just the panel on top.
I might send it in and I know if I choose not to they will send it back.

Was it protected in any sort of a case when you dropped it, or was it totally naked ?

Same here. I thought they were going to charge an arm and a leg, but $105 isn't bad in my opinion!

Lesson learned. Always put a case. You never know if a case could have reduced or prevented the damage.

oh wow that's really cheap! the cheapest i can find the part on eBay was $140, I rather send it in! thanks guys!
i had a case on mine, but had it off when i dropped it a couple nights ago. same story--phone still works, but the cracks the dropped caused left the screen unresponsive to touch.
i also heard the same thing from LG, but my biggest issue was that i wanted to retrieve data that i had on the phone. they said that they always wipe the data when they do any repairs on it, so i purchased that screen from china and am giving it a go on wednesday.
wish me luck! :fingers-crossed:
So, lol, the same thing happened to me. I wanted to post a pdf of the tear down guide that might help you guys, as I couldn't find it anywhere online.
I was going to order the part online, but after hearing about it being cheaper to send to LG, I might just do that instead!

Yeah, my phone was wiped, but I had nothing important on there. I haven't activated it to see if it is still rooted or not. I can't get past the activation screen without a SIM card.

To be honest it is cheaper then insurance..... I bought the ProtectCell after I broke the first one. and it is $200 or something up front plus $150 every time you break it.... Aka I could fix my phone 3 times before the insurance is a better deal.
Ughhh...same thing happened to me about an hour ago. Would one of you be able to share where you tracked down where to send it in. I'll start digging around for info on this, but thought I'd ask. Thanks!

Can't post a link since I'm new but lg(dot)com/us/support/repair-service/schedule-repair should work for you.
I dropped mine last week and called their 1-800 number to create a Return Authorization, rather than using the web page. Ended up being $146 to repair mine, which is still cheaper than local shops and far less risky than me trying to figure out how to do it solo. They received it Thursday, gave me the quote late Friday, and I called in to make the payment then. Hopefully it's repaired Monday and on it's way back to me by mid-week.

Awesome. Thanks so much for the reply. I think I will give them a ring tomorrow. I had found the LG repair link prior to your reply and, oddly enough, the G2 isn't even listed in the list of selectable products, so figured I'd have to call anyhow.
I'm generally extremely careful with my devices, maybe even anal, so I generally don't buy insurance. However, this is the second phone, after my G-Nexus, which has ended up with a smashed screen due to a freak accident. Starting to rethink my take on insurance......
Thanks again!

the lg g2 isn't listed because of the different model numbers (d800, vs980 etc), so just select the model you have. I'm waiting for my call from them now.

Thanks. I noticed that after the fact. Had been looking for the G2 so overlooked the other options. Ended up using the live chat option which worked very well. Also checked back in with live chat a few times to see where the process was at once I sent it in.
Long story longer, I will have mine back in my greedy little hands tomorrow if Fed-Ex holds up their end of the bargain. Like another poster stated, the repair cost was $146, which includes return shipping, plus my cost to send it to Texas. Took about 2-1/2 weeks total from the day I shipped to getting it back tomorrow. I saw another poster-or-two mentioned that their repair was quoted at $105. Not sure why mine and others were up at $146 since mine seemed like a pretty basic crack and I figured thus, it would be at the lower end of the reported repair chargees.
Looking forward to getting it back. Had already sold my G-Nex so I've been scraping by with my resurrected Palm Pre for the past couple weeks
