Hey everyone.
I've had my phone for about two weeks, its been in a rubber case since undoing. I removed the case today to clean the screen and found these 3 cracks in the side of the case. What should I do? I've been very careful with the phone, its never been dropped.
Thanks in advance for any advice!

**Update**
Alright, after much back order and delay, I got my replacement Evo over the weekend, free of charge (it was past my 30 day return). Its a hw Rev 3 Nova just like my last one too. Im glad Sprint did the right thing, maybe knowing this will help others with the same problem.
On a side note, the nice lady that was helping me was taking a long time to port my number over to the new phone. I asked her if everything was alright, and she smiled and replied "Yes, the phone activated just fine. Now Im downloading the new android update for you." ahhhhhh! I kindly asked her to stop ASAP and told her I would apply it later. That would have been aweful, stuck with an unrooted froyo.
Anyways, just thought Id share. Good luck to the rest of you having this problem!

If it has never been dropped or abused, I'd suggest returning it. There's no reason the plastic should be cracking on its own. If anything, something went wrong with the way yours was manufactured.
The cracks are at equal parts down the side of the phone, and then theres an extra one. I have been super careful with this phone, its not been dropped, nor does it have a single scratch of any type on it anywhere. It's in mint condition.
Has anyone else had said problems?

Hi. My screen has a touch imput free area on the top part of it. It is about a half inch, just bellow the notiffication bar. My phone is rooted, and i have hotspot enabled. Other than that is stock.
Plrase advise me as to what i can do. If there is nothig i can do, is my warranty voided because root? Who should i contact for warranty? Att or motorola?

Which method did you root your phone with?...
Sent from my MB860 using xda premium
I dont remember. I was rooted, and than updated my phone to the latest moto release. Lost root and than i had to flash somethig to get root back and than to unlock the hotspot app.
This was about 2 or 3 months back. All was ok till about a month ago, when i dropped the phone to the floor. Noticed the screen issue shortly after. Not sure if the drop caused this tho. There are no scratches on the screen, and it had a silicone case on it.

do you think the problem came from dropping your phone or were you messing with something on your phone? and yes your warrentty is voided, but you could get your own new screen on ebay for like 30 buxs and fix it yourself
Not sure if the drop caused it. Maybe. I noticed the pb soon after. I didn't mees with the phone, other than rooting and enaibeling hotspot.
The screen on ebay, is it the same as the stock one? Same quality?

Try a advanced restore of pds.img from the cwm only to see if that fixes your problem.. Thats if you did backup from cwm..
No, i didn't back up anything. Just rooted. I barely mannaged to do that.

My phone had the same thing and I sbf'd back to 1.26 and took it back no problems. Mine was also unlocked.

I also have that problem, the problem is with the touchscreen not the software. At first, the touchscreen will not work for sometime you'll need to turn the screen off and on again. The problem will start more frequent. Then, the touchscreen on some part of the screen will not work at all. Only to fix is to call ATT for a repair. But, I live in Thailand and I brought mine at US. So, it not worth sending it back. I buy the touchscreen off ebay for $60 and change it myself. Working great now.
Pretty cheap on ebay, some for $40. My screen started acting the exact same way. I honestly believe it's heat damage. I remember reading that there are layers of the glass that are glued together. Extreme heat could cause the layers to come apart enough that sections of the screen are unusable.
My screen is exactly as the OP said, about a half-inch from the bar at the top. I noticed it soon after I started mounting the phone in my car near the top of the windshield where it could get some steady sunlight (obviously I didn't realize it was doing that until I noticed this problem).
I just ordered my replacement off ebay and will give it a shot. It's worth $40 if it'll let me use my phone properly again and hold off having to get a new phone prior to my upgrade price kicking in.
Hopefully installation won't be too hard. Good luck to the rest of ya!
This happen to my boyfriend's phone recently as well. I posted everywhere trying to find a solution but no one could help. It started to get worse after about a week or so where another section, towards the bottom of the screen, became unresponsive as well. My boyfriend finally called Motorola and sent it in for repair. We don't have ATT's insurance so we didn't try that way. Anyways, he's suppose to receive the phone this Monday...we'll see if it's fixed.

Did your touchscreen come with the adhesive? If not, you'll need to be extremely careful when you remove the old one cause you'll need the adhesive or you'll need the two sided tape with <0.25mm thick and apply it to around the touchscreen and remember to apply it as a close system or the dust will go under your screen.
If you need more info just PM me
I think i.ll call moto.

Mine had the same issue, ive unlocked, rooted, modded the rom and radio, so no going to ATT, instead i took it to UbreakItIFixIt, just google them, best $99 i spent and kept all my custom goodies!
Sorry I haven't responded, hopefully you got your phone fixed but just in case you haven't...The phone came back and he hasn't had a problem with it whatsoever. The rep on the phone didn't know what was wrong with it or what they did to fix it but whatever they did, it worked. It took about a week or so to get the phone back and the only thing he had to pay for was shipping the phone out.
Hello. After a lot of troubles with my desire z I want to open this thread in which everyone can post the problems he has had with his desire z.
For example mine in order had:
-Some keys working random (fixed by htc)
-Volume up key not working (fixed by htc by replacing th mobo)
-Screen not working, ribbon cable I think (sending to htc now)
so this is not that htc amazing build quality...
I had a few issues, but they got fixed under warranty.
Issues fixed
-Dust Under Screen (fixed 1year ago HTC)
-Loose hinge (replaced the spring, 1yr ago phone still feels good, glad i did it)
I see that both of you had your issues fixed by HTC, exactly how long did it take to get your phone back to you? And how did you go about getting a replacement from htc???
I'm having a problem with my hardware keyboard, When I press the spacebar key 90% of the time it will double space rather then single spacing.
When I sent my phone for dust issues it took them about 2 weeks to repair. Htc did not offer a replacement phone they just repaired it and sent me my phone back. I ended up using my Motorola rokr e8 for two weeks.

You had to unroot/go back to your stock rom before sending your g2 to them correct?

I don't know if it's the same in the US, but in Italy we have "collection centers" where you bring your broken phone, they send phones to HTC and then give it back to you. This may take two weeks. The nearest collection center isn't that near, so HTC send me a courier/carrier (don't know which one is the right word in english) and after a week I have my phone back
The second and third time I've asked them to change my phone (I know that tmobile before having the broken phone, has already sent you a new sensation or mt4g). Now I want to see if this time they will change it... I hope so, can't leave the phone for a week so often (less than one year: three problems...)
edit: yes unroot and everything with Nipqer's guide

Yes unroot, when i sent in my phone i was still on stock, rooted afterwards. Here is the guide by Nipqer that virtualflyer mentioned.

to use that unroot guide your phone must have true s-off, to check if you have true s-off see this thread.

Only problem I ever had was a burnt flash, but I really used the torch app A LOT, and usually with the Death-Ray setting on, lol. I bought 4 replacements on ebay for less than 5 dollars, change it myself and it's all good.

Mine has been great for the past couple of years! Had it since October of 2009 or thereabouts.
HTC sent me back my desire z repaired for the third time... Amazing build quality... Amazing customer service... Amazing HTC...
Not sure how much I'll stand this...

What did you repair? How much did it cost?
My volume rocker is a bit mushy due to me abusing it too much, but otherwise my G2 is working great after 19 months of ownership.
Owning a DZ sins february 2010 and noticed the glass was a bit higher then other DZ's. A few months later I noticed dust under screen, wich has gotten worse since...
Also on top of the phone, near the power button. The housing is cracked.
Other then that I am verry pleased with my DZ up till now

I received my Nexus 10 in the mail today (I thought I would never get off of work!) and when I opened the shipping package I noticed the actual Nexus box with the stickers on it saying "If this seal is broken, do not accept", the seals were in fact, broken. A bit disappointed, I figured since they were already tore I might as well look inside. Everything inside looks completely perfect and doesn't seem to be tampered with at all. As you see in my signature, it hasn't stopped me from using it (and loving it!) but I was just curious to know if anyone else had this happen. The tears aren't clean, and actually look like they could have occurred during shipping (that's what I'm telling myself anyways), but I've kept all the static wrapping on the device for the time being in case an issue comes up I can report the broken seal on arrival...hopefully their support doesn't read this thread. Haha.

I got two from walmart, both with something similar. One sticker on both looked like it was perforated, almost torn, while the other sides sticker was fine. Both from different Walmarts.
First one had dust under the screen so I returned it and got the other. It was fine otherwise. No issues so far with the second.

Thanks for all of the feedback. It makes me feel better about my stickers being torn. My device is working well for the time being so I'm not going to concern myself with the error in packaging.

Right, I got me s4 on release day in UK (well 27th noth 26th), all was good until tonight, I just got me s3 back from a mate today who put a new front glass on it (broke in my pocket a couple a months ago but was usable, cost me £12 for glass and £20 to get fitted)
Sat down on sofa tonight and heard a cracking noise, took my s4 outta me pocket and the bottom 3/4 of the screen was black. Samsung phones build quality is s****, don't get me wrong I'm the biggest Samsung fan there is, it's the only tv or phones in my house but to break in my pocket after 2 weeks. NOT ON.
The good news is I contacted O2 uk straight away and they have a new phone on the way since its insided the 28 days from purchase. You can guess I've ordered a few cases to protect it but if its gonna break with a bit of stress in your pocket no case will save it.
I know your bound to be thinking "this mad man must haved a screw driver or sum other sharp instrument in his pockets" but I don't, just my wallet and maybe a few loose coins.
Anyone else have any issues like me or am I the only one.
Cheers,
Glynn

Thank god it happened within the first 28 days, at least now I know how vulnerable it is to fat b**tards and can get the biggest rubberised case I can find. Sort of defeats the purpose of having a slim sleek phone but I don't wani be landed with a £2 or £300 bill to fix it the second time round

You are not the first one to mention your screen cracked simply from having the phone in your pocket. A few pages back you find this topic http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2260083
Note they mention it's the LCD itself that shattered, not the Gorilla Glass. At this point I could not buy an S4 without constantly worrying about my device. I will see what phones the late summer/fall will bring.
Too much surface glass on this device for a pocket. That 5" display and a small bezel is a fragile combination.

IMHO.
I'm one of the others who's LCD cracked while phone was in pocket, but three said they would charge me just to look at it, then charge me again as is physical damage and was fine for the first week!
I've now sent it back to Samsung, who have said they will charge me to fix it, still waiting on the quote!
So your very lucky O2 are shipping you a new phone.
As probably 80% of phone owners carry their phones in their pockets, it's very worrying that Samsung seem to have made a phone that can easily break if carried that way!

Quick update I phoned Samsung this morning was told their service center has informed them that my phone is fine! I guess they had a quick look saw the glass wasn't cracked and decided its fine without even turning it on or looking at it from different angles! I'll find out more on Monday when I the service center is open

That's quite odd
Was there anything else in the pocket? Or just the phone?
Not doubting what you're saying, just trying to think of what could have caused it and what to try and avoid when I get mine
This is kind of worrisome since I'm planning on getting an S4 soon and always keep my phone in my pocket.
