WHen I first got the Slide it was awesome! The pictures it took looked great... but now my phone won't auto focus right... there is no manual focus... now it just takes awesome blurry out of focus pictures!
Is this happening to anyone elses phone? From the looks of the intertubez this will become a "known" issue with TMO
Are there any files the camera accesses for settings or the like that may be damaged? I have tried other ROMS and they all seem to have the same problem....
yup, happened to me too, i just got a warranty replacement and it's clear again. you have to call and get a new phone.
My camara was blurry the other day and I noticed it had condensation under the lens. It ended up drying out but the pics still arent as clear as they have been. Weird.

yea this same thing happened to mine and i just called them and got a replacement. i even tried resetting my phone before i sent it in and that didnt fix the problem so idk what causes it. Hopefully it doesnt happen again with my new one.
It started happening after this rave I played at.... the humidity inside was probably 100%
Yes, this happened to me as well. It would only focus on things literally about an inch from the lens. When wiping didnt fix the problem, T-mobile sent me a new Slide.
Blurry Cam
I just bought the MTslide about a week ago on craigslist and I too have the blurry focus issue, ive cleaned it, messed with settings all to no success. It only takes clear pictures if the object is an inch away. I of course do not have insurance cuz I bought on craigslist, is there anything I can do I'm desperate? I love this phone it's amazing but I dont want to have to go back to my CliqXT because of the camera (especially since its still on 1.5 till Motorola's "fairytale" update which they keep pushing aside)

What is the best program to use to backup all the programs and crap before I unroot this one and send it back...
Yep.... Same deal with mine. Sending it into HTC for repair. It is stuck in Macro focus... Go up to something close and it will be fine.
Fine if you only want to take macro photos..... otherwise useless!

I had the same problem with out of focus but it came down to condensation. I live in Florida and it has been hot and it is the same over the US right now. Everyone is using AC but going from cool and low humidity to hot and very high humidity well you build up condensation. I left my phone in the sun for about 45 minutes and then took some pics and it worked fine A few days later it was back to being blurry and tried the same thing. If I leave the phone in the house without going outside and take pics it is fine as well. Just going from on extreme to another it takes its toll. I do photopgraphy and when I go out to do a shoot I leave my camera in the trunk of my car to get rid of the condensation on the lens and mirros inside the camera.
I think i figured the problem out why everyone camera goes blurry.
I have the mytouch slide and the pictures were perfect and crystal clear. Then when the firmware 2.1 update came, that messed up the camera big time and made it barely unusable.
Please fix the issue!!!!
I just had mine replaced via warranty exchange. Just call, tell them you're having trouble, there's nothing on the lens, the water damage indicator is white, and it's still not working. You'll get a new one and if you don't have insurance they'll charge you ten bucks to deliver it to you.
I actually don't think it has anything to do with condensation or heat or humidity. Yes, all of those things can affect ANY lens on ANY phone, and the update may have even adversely affected certain handsets but this is a handset by handset issue. My father's mytouch slide got the update and still works better than my old camera did. It's a hardware problem with a certain batch of these phones. My wife's is still fine and she got it early on like me. The lens tries to focus and snaps back to its original position. It's a defect. You can play with the settings all you want, but other than minor adjustments and a lot of placebo effect, you're not gonna fix it.

I hear you. But i just got this two weeks ago in the store and the camera was perfect till after the update. I would hate to get a replacement for a silly camera. So debating to not care and keep the phone or just risk it and get a Warranty one
You have nothing to lose by getting a new one via warranty exchange. You don't even have to be without your phone. It comes to you in the mail, you backup your contacts, you hard reset the old one, you're done.
The camera won't get better, it will not improve, you'll have the new phone before you know it. And the slide is relatively new which means the longer you wait, the higher the likelihood that you get a manufacturer refurb. instead of the new one I got 2 days ago.
Just do it. Someone in your life will do something, you'll want the silly camera, and you'll go, "damn, I shoulda listened to that dude on the forum".

I'm practically in the same boat. I called a few repair places up here in Seattle and since it's such a new phone, none of them were able to order parts. Does anyone know if HTC will repair it. Or even repair it if it's rooted?
I just had this problem with my wife's slide and having read similar threads on different forums including tmobile's, I called customer care and lied a little about doing all kinds of things to make sure it's hardware, like doing a factory reset. Never mention that it's rooted! Just play dumb and they'll send you a new phone under warranty. We got the new one yesterday and I rooted it while my wife was still at work, following the new root method as it came with the 1.35.x update.and flashed chiefz 1.35.x rooted ROM (she likes espresso). When she came home I took the old phone and installed the 1.27.x esprimg.img and then flashed the 1.35.x OTA (non root). Put it in the return box and gonna drop it at a UPS drop box today.
It sounds like a lot of steps, but it goes relatively quick.

i'm currently experiencing the camera issue as well as my wifi not working (running CM6) ...it simply cannot see any networks. I tried even loading the latest nightly build to no avail. As my phone has a slight crack on one of the buttons I'm going to try and get a refurb and then possibly sell it for a G2
I'll reply how it goes
I honestly do not notice the blurry pictures issue that you guys are having. The pictures are awesome in light but gets a little grainy in low light conditions, other than that my pictures and videos are great. Are you guys complaining about low light pictures?

My wife and I both have Epic 4G's. Mine is rooted and has run a bunch of different ROM's in the last month, but her's is stock. Bone stock. Not even rooted.
New problem developed yesterday: Her Epic has a "black hole" in the photos. It's like a bug is on the lens. Just to the upper of center of the photo. It's on every photo now. Couldn't believe it, considering we're now at 31 days of ownership and the camera worked fine up until then. I'd show you a picture, but the phone is literally attached to her head right now and won't come off for another hour or two.
Yes, the lens is clean, there is no visible obstruction on the lense or case that one can see. Not even a fingerprint.
Anyone else have this problem? If so find a free solution? (other than not using the rear-facing camera?
There any solution other than paying the $35 repair fee to get a refurbished unit from the Sprint Repair center? Will Samsung back the hardware up past the 30 day mark?
I can't see them turning you away if you go there on the 31st day with a major problem like that.
Let The Games Begin...
Post And State Your Reason(s) why you exchanged it.
Im on my 3rd, going to the 4th!
Reason(s): Washed Displays, Wifi Busted
I'm on my third MT4G and here's why:
- First one had a loud creaking sound at the bottom, most noticeably when pressing the back button.
- Second one was dropped less than two feet from the ground with the Flex case on it, and the phone's bezel was scratched and misaligned.
5 times
1. change color
2. power button quit working
3. Tried to get a good screen
4. Tried to get a good screen.
5. I got the good screen Happy so far.
this is messed up i bought mine from craigslist brand new and i called tmo try to exchange it they said they wont do it. because i did not buy it from them. the ime number is not in their system what can i do?
Got mine the day it released and still on the same original one. No creaking, good screen, cameras centered.
Knock on wood...
Exchanged once to get a good screen

Just call them up and ask for technical support. Tell them you want to verify the IMEI number is correct in the system so you can get the OTA update. They may not find it in the system but they can manually put it in. I know because I called them 2 days ago and they told me mine was not in the system. She put it in for me manually.
Then you could call them back up and ask them for a replacement as it will be in the system. you don't have to tell them where you bought it.
If you are the very first person to use the phone, warranty will apply to you. If anyone else has used the phone, your screwed because the warranty only applies to them. I'm still in my original one, I see no reason to exchange it, I swear some people just abuse the system. Eventually it'll end up ruining it for the rest of us.

Exchanged once because the phone earpiece made a buzzing noise.
This is my second one. The first device had a dead pixel and everything else was great. The second one has a clean screen but it's the washed one and it creaks from the bottom of the phone, but the most frustrating is the GPS, it's not working , it detects like 10 SATs but never locks the location. Wifi is acting weird too, it tries to connect to the same network like 2 or 3 times before it connects . I don't like to replace phones that often, if I have to replace a phone more than one time it does say something about quality or their quality check process. I mean how hard is it to check the phone for a misplaced FFC (for me I don't care about that ) ? I am done with the phone and I am going to try the NS. I liked the phone, and I can't understand HTC, how can you build such a great phone and forget about such basic quality issues. I think companies try to save on quality tests and throw their production directly to people to work as cheap test engineers. If a company knows that their phones are that good they will not make it that easy to replace the phone for several number of times for the same customer.
First one exchanged because of creaking buttons.
Second one exchanged because of light leak from bottom edge of screen and a gap between the bezel and the body.
I'm on my third one. Build is fine. Battery life is questionable but tolerable. Screen quality is fine for me but pales in comparison to samoled. I'm keeping this one until the next best thing comes around.

if you want quality control Samsung is not the company to go to I had my Vibrant replaced 4 times all had problems right out the box.
first phone GPS all have this problem plus the phone would freeze where I had to take out battery.
second phone a visible line down the screen.
third phone. turned it on and it just started opening apps and settings randomly.
fourth phone no bugs yet but it is rooted with custom rom on it now and my wife uses it I just got the mytouch 4g sick of samsung.
I bought 2 myTouch 4G and exchanged both of them 1 time. One for a bad screen (see this) and the other one for bad color screen.
After reading this thread. I regret selling my Blackberry 9700. That, and the battery life still sucks. Eff you HTC. Make better quality equipment.
Hoping nothing eff's up on my phone. I use it for work, I'm almost regretting paying in full for it as I need a phone that lasts ALL day under email and internet use. IE. 9am-2am.
I'm hoping third time's the charm....
1st: Creaky back button, sucky HSPA+ speeds
2nd: leaking battery acid from battery!
I'm pretty sure this battery was FUBAR out the box. With moderate use its dead by 4pm, even with using task killer. Whats the best/fastest story I can tell tmo for my first exchange? I've had the phone almost 3 weeks. Would the store do the exchange, or do I need to call Tech Support?
1. Phone app kept fcing and acore fcing.
2. Wanting a better screen and where the bottom on the screen meets the buttons. The light was showing theough the seam.
3. Got a chinese phone. All issues resloved. Very happy now.

Well i was 5 days over my 14 day remorse period. just went in and told then i would like an exchange. So if i were u just give it a shot. I got lucky and got a China made MT4G with a superior screen! Dead Centered FFC. All i did is just ask.
My phone: Original. FFC is slightly off, there is a small cosmetic defect around the BFC bezel, and a -very- small chip in the front chrome near the FFC. Annoyed about it, but not enough to swap for a refurb when everything works -great- (S-OFF, rooted no problems, good screen, etc).
Wife's phone: 1st swap. Original one would -not- take S-OFF or root at ALL. It would even take the ENG HBOOT, but still be S-ON! Replacement has been great and went S-OFF easily like mine
We actually swapped my wife's via 611 even though we bought both phones in store. The store was completely useless in help with anything and will never receive my business again! Called 611, 'cancel' at autoprompt to get a retentions person. They suggested the store, we explained what horrible service we've had since they sold us the phones, he chuckled and said ok no problem new phone on the way.
I swapped out my original MT4G with a washed-out display for a replacement unit with a good display.
Well, I was in the process of putting my phone back to stock so I could get the camera replacement (purple haze problem) done while the warranty was in place... except somehow the eMMC screwed up while going back to stock. The bootloader still runs, so HTC can at least see that I unlocked the phone before it screwed up... and likely voided my warranty.
I talked with HTC in HK (where I bought it; I'm in GZ now), figuring I'd be on the hook for the memory fix but also the camera now, too.
In fact, they were pretty cool about it - they said if they could fix the memory and get it back to stock without replacing the motherboard, they'd cover it under the warranty. Even if the motherboard had to be replaced, they'd charge me for that, but then still cover the camera replacement under the warranty!
Have to say, that wasn't the response I was expecting. On top of that, they accepted my phone in the GZ location and sent it back to HK, for free.
The phone's still in processing now, so it's not final yet, but so far I'm pretty impressed with HTC service...
(update: after a number of returns, detailed below, I've thrown my hands up in frustration and moved on to another phone.)

how long gonna take to repair it? i'm planning to replace the camera, on my vacation in HK.
Well, OK, time for an update to my original story:
So I got the phone back from HTC:
- Camera replaced, purple haze gone. Yay!
- eMMC (entire mainboard) fixed at a cost of approx. USD$213; oh well, my fault.
- Surprise - back casing replaced for free, without prompt from my side. Reason given was "Beats logo print quality poor" (ironically, the Beats logo on the new casing is wiping off even faster than before)
Anyway, so I had the phone back in my hands, and was initially pretty happy. Signal reception seemed a bit... off... but I figured it was maybe down to being in poor reception spot in China, or needing a factory reset, or even that I should get a new SIM card after more than 2 years.
Less than a day later, I realized there was something seriously wrong. 3G was seriously unstable in most places where it used to be strong, and even phone calls would drop out abruptly. Locking the phone down to 2G seemed to help a lot, but maybe not quite perfect, either. Regardless, staying on 2G is no good. Here's the unfortunate part: I was so determined to believe within the first evening that even *if* anything was wrong, that it couldn't possibly be the phone. By the time I realized it was the phone, I had already unlocked it, in order to root it. Why? Because I'm in China, and since the Tiananmen Square anniversary, anything related to Google is totally blocked, including Google Play, Mail, Contacts, Mail, Calendar, Translate, etc. which means SSH or VPN is a must, which means unlocking->rooting.
So I get it back to HTC in HK, and explain very kindly that while I appreciate the camera being fixed, that I think they've given me a borked 3G radio. I explain that it's unlocked, only because of the situation in China, and they're very understanding about this, as apparently they've heard this from many other customers, too.
I get the phone back later, and same issue. They state that they just replaced the "upper board" which apparently handles the radio. Worst thing is that they don't even know if they've fixed it or not, because I realize the 3G radio problem in HK is far less severe, and therefore far less obvious, although definitely still apparent throughout a day of usage. Even for myself, I didn't realize the problem was still there until after the service center was closed. This leads me to believe that it might be the antenna embedded within the back casing (which they replaced in the original repair because of the bloody Beats logo... which I didn't even ask for...), because of the far better 3G coverage in HK compared to anywhere in mainland China.
I get back in touch with HTC HK, and explain the situation. They try to be understanding, but they're unsure about what to do about this. I tell them I think it's the back casing. They seem open to that idea, but then go on to explain to me that their lenience with the unlocked status of the phone only extends to repairs that don't involve mainboard replacement. If it were to come down to that, they'd want to charge me another ~USD$213.
It gets better: I had been using an old Sony Xperia Play during the time that my HTC was out of my hands, and was using a SIM card holder in it. I stupidly placed the empty holder back into its SIM slot during the most recent HTC pickup, and when I tried to remove the SIM holder from the Sony later, it had snagged on something... probably one of the electronic contacts for the SIM card. Long story short, I got the holder out, but the SIM slot in the Xperia is busted. Yay...
Faced with my HTC One being gone again for a while, and no certainty at all about whether it would come back to me any better than before, and no longer having a backup phone, I bought a OnePlus One. Despite all the crap you read about delays with their invite system and shipping, etc... if you buy it domestically, it's delivered to your hands in less than 24hrs from clicking "Buy" on their website. Nice. Although OPO has a couple of issues, too, but that's for another post.
As for HTC... I hope they might try replacing the back casing this time (at no expense to me) and that this might resolve the situation. As troublesome as this whole service situation has been since the purple haze camera started it, I still love the phone, and think it's definitely the best phone I've ever owned, and one of the best phones ever made. Even with the improvements made, the M8 doesn't beat it, either. I'm very anxious to see what HTC does with the M9...
Final update on what started as a "nice" service repair story at HTC in HK:
Got my HTC One back from HK repair... again. Given the lousy signal strength, the fact that they'd already tried replacing the "upper board" which apparently hosts the radio, the hotter (than normal) temperature and lousy battery life, I figured the issue was probably with the antenna in the back casing (which they needlessly replaced the first time because the 'Beats' logo was wearing off), and told them so in a very polite and patiently-phrased letter I attached, concluding that this might easily be fixed with a replacement of the back casing - no big deal right? Since they replaced it the first time only because of the 'Beats' logo.
So, yeah, I finally get it back... and what's the result? They interpreted my letter as meaning the bad battery life must be the result of a bad battery, and replaced it. That was it. So my radio still sucks, the battery is slightly better, but still not as good as it was originally, the overall casing came back totally filthy, which took a good deal of cleaning... and the best part? Now my speakers, which previously worked perfectly, are constantly cutting out during playback of any song. Yay. Another problem that wasn't there before.
Basically, it seems can't seem to do a full and proper testing and evaluation of a returned phone, not even when I'm continuously pointing them in the right direction. Furthermore, they keep returning my phone with new problems that never existed in the first place. The former is greatly frustrating, but the latter really burns me.
To HTC (if you happen across this): you guys have great, world-class designers in your company, such that your products are beautiful and hit almost all the right keys for me... BUT... you have SERIOUS issues, both in your factory (my original phone had weirdly mismatching casing and the purple-haze camera) and even more in your after-sales repair. Your next phone (M9) is going to have to be out-of-this-world for me to even consider going down this road with you again. My OnePlus certainly isn't perfect, but it's awfully close, at less than half the price that I paid for my M7. Please get your act together... soon.
Who here has sent in their phone to LG or have had to exchange their phone due to build quality issues? I am expecting mine back from LG soon. I had GPS issues, charging port issues, and the paint finish was bubbling along the bottom module.
So, here are a few things I feel are important things to look at when receiving your device. If you have sent in your phone and received it already could you share some info based off these questions?
What differences do you notice build quality wise?
Any HW differences?
How does the phone's battery life differ from before?
Did they repair the specific issue or does the device appear to have been replaced entirely?
Turn around time?
Some manufacturers have specific markers on serial numbers that indicate when they were manufactured which makes it pretty easy to figure out when it was made. I am gonna compare mine and see if I can find a difference, if there is something like that could you provide the small info needed to figure it out?
Here is what my device looks like after receiving it back from LG. Luckily(unlucky) they didn't actually fix the original issues I had and sent it back. I don't have a picture of the yellowing LCD yet. The reflective finish kind of makes the bubbling hard to see, but in person its pretty noticable.
I just replaced my G5 through AT&T, and it seems to be fine so far. My old G5 had camera issues after the last software update, it also had some screen burn in already. The "new" G5 seems to have similar battery life, and it took the update with no issues. I didn't have build issues with the old G5 and the new one seems even better built. I am.satisfied so far.
I had to send mine off for repair as the OIS was broken.
They decided to replace it as it was going to take longer than 7 days to fix it.. Funny thing is it took them more than 7 days to get a new one to me as they had no stock! I gave it to O2 on Monday 5th September, I just got the replacement this afternoon.
What differences do you notice build quality wise?
Better. The chin fits better on this replacement.
Any HW differences?
Not that I have noticed
How does the phone's battery life differ from before?
Not had it long enough to say
Did they repair the specific issue or does the device appear to have been replaced entirely?
Replaced
Turn around time?
9 Days

I cant find any numbers or marks that indicate manufacture date. Maybe Its in software?

Mine, purchased at bestbuy, att, (2 months old) wifi and bluetooth stopped working. sent in to LG. came back with work order stating "gps test fail" Solution "update software"
Same phone came back with couple nicks in same places as before. i thought maybe they would send a new one or fix the parts chipped, but nooooooo. Thanks for NOTHING.
SOLD THE PHONE after i made sure it worked correctly.
Went with wife to att and got a new G5 for free when i finally talked her onto switching off samsungs boat
So far new phones are great. ill report back if this changes
My g5 had gps issues, sent it to LG for warranty repair. The phone returned scratched and couldnt detect sim card. I returned it to repair, they replaced screen because light leak, the back cover, and fixed the sim tray... LG in israel has a policy of not giving new devices , only do warranty repairs. At least its been 2 month and everything ok.
I have olso to mention that in israel LG has repair service that the repair guy will come to your house to fix your phone for free..
I just received my phone. They did not fix the issues I had sent it in for.
EDIT:
Sim tray ejection hole looks like they just shoved a big paper clip in there and damaged the hole, and my battery eject button now feels funny. The LCD is yellowing along the top right as well... This is seriously ****ty. I will upload pictures soon.
Pics are up. So disappointed with LG right now.
You sent your phone in service via courier service? Have you tried to take your "repaired" phone in an LG service center and try to have it replaced? I have never sent my previous phones in service with a courier so i have no experience with this situation but those few times I took my phone to service center for a repair, after it was fixed, i carefully check it for bad handling before taking it back. Was there no way you could refuse the "repaired" device on the "bad handling" reason?
Here in the US LG requires cell phone warranty repairs to be shipped in. We can't open packages to check if the decice is okay or not either because we have to accept them first. Don't get me started on calling in customer support... Luckily they have a web portal to generate ship in warranty requests and they give you a label.
The G5 is back in LG's hands for a second time. Hopefully they right the wrongs here...

Hopefully, semms like you've been through hell with it.
Surprise surprise it came back with the same issues. I've attached a more recent shot of the bubbling. My phone now has minor scuff marks on the back of the frame too. Sim tray hole looks like trash. The LCD does not yellow anymore, but the physical issues remain.
Edit: I am just going to buy the rear frame. I am wasting too much time with this crap. One thing is for certain, I can never count on LG having good build quality ever again.
Looks like my G5 is debloated. That's the one good thing I got out of this ordeal lol.
Edit: Build version screenshot uploaded. It also does not boot with the sprint logo. It looks and runs like an unlocked device. Once I get the new housing I guess this will be fine. GPS seems to be fixed, LCD looks normal.
EDIT2: The bloatware loads upon activation... GREAT. lol
