Hi, I bought my Wildfire for something like £230 unlocked a while ago and I've just seen a phone for about £100, the Orange San Francisco.
I was wondering if the phone is worth it. I mean, my Wildfire does the job, but I need my phone mainly for emails and web browsing, and the resolution of the Wildfire just isn't really up to scratch for web browsing...
What do you suggest I do? Because I've looked and I can only really sell my Wildfire for about £90 nowadays...
The specs of the Orange San Francisco (ZTE Blade) are far higher than the Wildfire, be it the screen, its res, CPU, RAM and GPU.
So, if you are able to go for that, I would suggest you get it.
Except for the 5mp camera with LED flash on the Wildfire vs. the 3.2 mp camera with no flash on the ZTE.
The San Fransisco is good but one thing the wildfire excels in is its build quality which the Blade will not come close to. Also, the San Fransisco or Blade has many fewer and updated ROMS than the Wildfire.
Is the san Francisco using froyo?
Sent from my HTC Wildfire using XDA App
official froyo for the blade isn't out yet, and there's only i think 1-2 froyo roms out ofr it now.
Okay, do you know if it is confirmed that an official version will be released?
Sent from my HTC Wildfire using XDA App
As far as i remember Froyo has been released in Chinnese yet so upgrade in other countries should be avaliable soon.
Because of this Chinnes froyo we have other roms which are based on .
the sf does have the qualcomm msm 7227 which can run angry birds and is faster unlike the wildfires msm 7225
I would look out for the LG's like:
LG Optimux x2
Seems like a nice phone. and usualy LG's aren't too expensive.
Screen res is 800 x 480
The HTC does have sense which is the best android overlay
Sent from my HTC Wildfire using XDA App
Sense is good, but I'm using launcher pro at the moment anyway...
I will have to look into those phones.
Sent from my HTC Wildfire
But Sense it's way to intrusive, I'm starting to hate it.
Sent from my HTC Wildfire using XDA App
I like sense because it has many onboard htc apps and widgets which just look amazing. Cant imagine to download all the extra apps like ringtone trimmer...

I picked up a Desire for 230 on ebay in mint condition with 16 gb card do if your can get a good deal on there or gumtree that would perhaps be better on the long run

My gf has a San francisco, I have a wildfire. I picked up my WF for £130 on voda, and then got it unlocked, you can get the OSF for £100 and unlock it for free.
The hardware of the OSF blows the WF out of the water; it's quicker and has a much better screen, but the build quality and the camera are absolutely shocking. The OSF also has some annoying niggles, like the WiFi going to sleep bug.
There are plenty of froyo roms to choose from on the OSF - 15 at the last count, some better than others of course - Check the modaco forums, excellent community for it.
All in all, they both have their upsides and downsides - I wouldn't swap my WF for the OSF, but it's a near run thing.
Thanks for that post, very useful. Which is why is was thinking of using both phones... which would help since I could then have business one, and personal one (wildfire with friendstream etc). But is sf a 'lasting' phone? Or is it worth investing a little more to get a better built phone?
Sent from my HTC Wildfire
Dont you have a standard 2 year warranty? So long as you dont flash the phone with custom firmware (not a requirement for the SF, works great out of the box + official froyo is coming up soon) doesnt really matter if it was made by HTC ZTE or at your best friends basement you take it back to the authorized service center and its their problem to fix it.
Plus, if you screw it up out of warranty you lose 100 pounds instead of 220 ;D
I'd say if you've got the cash then get something better, but if you are on a budget then the san Francisco is great. You won't get more bang for your buck.

wildfire. All i have to say.
I had a x10 but sold it and got a wildfire.
The x10 is nice but no custom roms at all as the bootloader is not cracked. Also the x10 has a 4" screen but no multi touch, which for certain stuff suck, i use the snes emulator for example and it is unusable on the x10 as are most good games. The wildfire is very moddable wearas the x10 is not. Lastly the wildfire is close to getting cyanogen rom for it, it will never happen on the x10 and wildfire is close to getting froyo and the x10 has not even got 2.1 yet.
Its upto you but for me the wildfire is much more versatile then the x10 will ever be(imo)
Cheers for that .....widfire it is then .........

I vote for Wildfire. I'm pleased with it.
This little phone (wildfire) is just amazing. Today I visited a local store to see what is available. There were many phones from Nokia to Samsung, including the wonderkid Samsung Galaxy S. I dont know what it was. I knew Galaxy S had all yhe bells and whistles but I would not get it to replace my wildfire. Maybe it was the size, or the touchwiz overlay. But I am very happy with my wildfire ..
So I recommend wildfire
Sent from my HTC Wildfire using XDA App
Me and the other half upgraded a month ago, She got the Wildfire and I got the Desire, I have to say, they're both epic devices.
Her wildfire goes a couple of days without a charge and does pretty much everything with ease, and hopefully with 2.2 around the corner, things will only get better. All in all it's a great little device.
I'd recommend the Wildfire over the X10 a) Because I've used the Wildfire a lot, and b) I've not heard great things about the X10 and I've also read on here how much of a pain in the arse they are!

cheers kerman....im getting desire tomorrow and looks like i will be getting the wildfire for my son now
cheers
It seems that N1 is the most stable of all the handsets I have seen. Another plus is that it gets all the updates first without the bloat.
Unfortunately it isn't publicly sold anymore so whats the next best thing?
I am on AT&T.
It is sold in the developer section of Google's android site. But it's for T-Mobile. I guess for at&t it would be the Samsung galaxy s phone.
What about HTC desire...?
i've seen some websites where they hint that it may include 850Mhz band for UMTS... it seems there is a provider either in Austria or Italy using these frequencies....
I am actually getting two androids.
One is the Galaxy S once the dust clears on froyo and hardware issues.
I also wanted an N1 like device for its stability and ROM updates. HTC Desire seems like the closest alternative but do I still have to wait on HTC to release their custom brewed ROMs? There also seems to be some minor hardware differences that make the N1 better.
Either that or you still have to wait on OpenDesire team to release adapted Nexus firmware for Desire when it comes out. The latter one takes much less time.
They are on craislist and ebay, I own 2 myself on Tmobile both purchased from said locations.
Craigslist will be better. I did locally. Att version cost more on eBay. Something about not available through Google bullchit. They will try to rip you off. After I bought the iPhone 4 and sold to buy my n1. I called every n1 owner to find out I they had att version. Pay much less too. For a one month old unit. Can't beat that. And don't regret it. But now alot of new phones coming soon. I hear that g2 is going to available through bell Canada. U could wait for that.

The Desire was released later than N1 and it has better multi-touch support (out of box), More RAM, Enabled FM transmitter etc- which i think makes Desire a better device on specs! But on software updates- N1 still beats all android sets though it aint that hard to keep Desire up-to-date aswel i guess!
Just laying down the records- i like my N1 better as far as time goes- on looks n updates.. but would love to have a Desire 'if i can have it for free i.e'

Yeah they've identical but not quite the same-
1. Desire has New touch sensor (Better multi-touch- nexus has problem distinguishing between fingers at time)
2. More RAm- 576 MB as opposed to N1's 512
3. Newer Bluetooth- 2.1+ vs N1's 2.0+ EDR
4. Desire is Dual-band- N1 is Tri-band
5. N1 has Noise-Cancellation- Desire Doesn't
6. Desire has better power-management than N1 (Tests on other sites)
7. N1 is Google-Dev Phone so will get faster updates while HTC ofcourse will play catch-up!
Umm That's as much as i could gather up- correct me if i'm wrong

doesn't the Desire also use the Clearpad 2000? If yes then it's the same as the N1.
@lukesky: sorry for my mistake- yes the desire has the same sensor as nexus and same multi-touch problem as nexus aswel.. Synaptics sensor wasn't originally made for multi-touch and thus the problem!
New phones seem to use Atmel MaxTouch sensor which is made for multi-touch and can track upto 16 points and is faster/responsive than the Synaptics!

I am selling one on ebay right now. Feel free to check it out.
lots of N1's on ebay, ATT's are not very common but usually dont go for much more than T-mobile 3G ones. i've seen used ones in the past 2-3 weeks go for anywhere from 350-450
i got mine off craigslist locally for 300, it was a steal of a deal, most people in my area are asking the same as what they go for on e-bay 350-450+ once again though ATT's are few and far between but they are out there.
N2 is on the way.
N2 is on the way.

SO with so many NexusOne owners wanting the Desire ROM, I wonder if there are as many or more, Desire owners wanting the NexusOne ROM?!
Personally, I only reaaallllyy dislike having a physical trackball on my Nexus.
It kind of detracts from its sleekness. Otherwise, I LOVE IT!
There is no replacement for the best Android device made. Maybe if the Nexus Two is a reality that would be a great alternative but never a replacement. I am a very proud owner of the Nexus One with all the extras, desk top dock which I run my music thru to my boss stereo system and it is killer. I bought the G2 because it looked like the Nexus One's brother, great phone but not a replacement, there is only one Nexus One, get one if you can. I have had more phones then carter has pills and the Nexus One rules.

Dude!>!?!?!? Craigslist has them!!! Good deals!!
I have the N1 and I bought the Desire for my wife. After playing with hers I've seen it to be about the same as far as usage and functionality. The screen however is much better than my N1. I had to get her the A183 model for use on ATT.
Btw the new CM6.1 candidate build has enabled FM radio for N1. No longer just a feature for the Desire .

Lol hell no are you serious? Like the guy above said at LEAST 150. I would even bump it to 200.

Both of those are downgrades, IMO. Why would you want to take a step backwards device-wise, even for a little extra money? Remorse is sure to ensue.
Vibrant is cheap plastic, and lots of issues with that phone (CPU lag, major GPS problems) and there is less developer support on XDA for Samsung phones. HD2 is old hardware, that phone was released Nov. 2009.
Check out this post by another guy that traded his G2 for the Vibrant, and totally regrets it. Don't be him.

Than try Desire HD, HD7, Evo Shift, Thunderbolt or something similar, but not outdated phones like HD2 ;-) And Samsung is not a choice at all IMO. Low quality, cheap plastic, disposable toys. They could'nt even make their own design and copy-cat'ed an iPhone.

If you like trying new phones, the HD2 doesn't qualify. Its a very old phone. 14 month old hardware may as well be 10 years in the smartphone business.
And a Android port is never going to run as well as a phone that is designed to run Android natively. So don't think that you will really have an Android phone on your hands if you buy an HD2 and flash an Android port. Old hardware that runs a very outdated OS, that also has the ability to run an Android port = not worth it.
I'm actually getting an HD2 to run Android and ditching my G2. It has the same hardware as my N1, which is running wonderfully and is a year old now, so I am not worried. I want the big screen, dual LED flash, and the Desire HD ROM. I've been waiting for T-Mo to announce a 4.3" HTC phone but who knows if it'll even happen at MWC so I am using the HD2 to hold me over until one ever comes to T-Mo.
just thought i'd let you guys know, i got the hd2 and am now running CM7 on NAND. its amazing. i love it
I had the hd2 before i got my z and it is a good phone with good support on xda. I just couldnt get used to its size. The z just "feels" better.
first of all, i would like to apologize if i posted this in the wrong place.
i am a noob when it comes to smartphones, but i really enjoy them. i have the HD mini right now and it's satisfactory. although looking at the wildfire and reading on how Android phones are the future of smart phones, i am considering selling mine for the wildfire. i am asking if it's worth the go?
i have read that the Wildfire has a lot of issues, but it's kind of a nightmare trying to figure out a fanboy's opinion, an unbiased one, and one who tries compare 2 different leagues of phones. pro help please
If your from the uk, you should go for the desire hd, desire z, or the desire. Wildfires are good phones but lacking a good proccessor and a good gpu.
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App
no, not from the uk, but would have definitely went for those if i wasnt too tight on my budget. infact, i have just enough money to sell mine and buy the wildfire but since mine is pricier than the wildfire, i am a bit afraid i might give out on alot for "just" android.
Keep your phone and wait for the duo-cores to get cheaper. That would be a real improvement imho.
i could wait
i am just afraid i would be missing out on a lot.
Im a wildfire user, running CM7 on it, its super fun and much better, obv there are problems with the Official ROM for updates etc, so if you want to try out different ROM's and have a good experience then Wildfire is for you..
Also if your a gamer like me and want to play games on the Wildfire then you might be disappointed.. But its a great phone for blogging, mails, social network etc..
Regards
Wildfire is a good phone, but if you use car navigation there's a problem. Wildfire doesn't have 3D accelerator, so some navigation software is incompatible.
thanks for the help everyone.
i am mainlly using my phone for browsing the net, music and social networks. hd mini does a good job on these tasks, but if fhe wildfire does a better one, i would go for it. as it will offer more too in terms of apps.
also my device becomes a little sluggies whn i have my wifi on or using an internet based app. if the WF doesnt have the same problem then there will be no doubt about my choice
You could wait for Android to come over to the HD Mini too However, that can still take a couple of months
Well, we know that our X8 is near to end its life cycle. With the new double-cored smartphones (and soon quad core!), X8 won't last much longer, mainly because we do more and more things with our phones as they evolve, like playing heavier games, taking HD videos, Sweep panorama, 3D, music beats technology (for now only with HTC phones but I don't doubt that other brands will also offer it in their phones soon) etc. etc.
Of course we have made our X8 a great phone with custom ROMs, like GingerDX (wich I use and I won't switch for now, I love it); I remember that when Gingerbread was about to be released, they said that it would be only possible to install it on devices that had 512 of RAM or higher... And thanks to the wonderful works of devs and several of you, we can use it in our X8.
So, the first question is: What are the real posibilities of having an Ice Cream Sandwich ROM in the future for our X8?
And second: Will you change your phone just to be updated and get Android 4.0 or will you stick with your X8 no matter if you get ICS or not?
My answers are (even if nobody cares haha): 1. I think devs could achieve to design an ICS ROM for X8, of course with a really hard work and dedication. Nothing is easy, neither impossible.
2. I don't know if I could get Xperia Neo in December. If I don't get it, then I'll wait until the next new SE devices (I'm kinda fan of SE). I'm checking the code named Nozomi and looks marvelous, the only thing I don't like is its big screen... Since I've using X8 Im starting to love small screens!
No i will not switch because i cant afford that, im only 15 ;DD

i hope we will have ics port for x8, there is one port for htc hero already:

and here is video of hero running ics:

i guess ics will be too much for the x8's ram !!
with gingerbread we only had like 20mb of free ram most of the time....

i have 70 mb available every time with Gc8.
I don´t care about the X8 getting ICS or not, as most of the features won´t be available on our low-end device.
ANd I also think if we get it, it will be slow, or at least take ages to be fsmooth like GB (especially GDX) now.
My contract with my provider ends next summer, and then I´ll search for another one with better phones (as the best Android phone my provider offers only has a 800MHz-single-core CPU).
I won´t buy any SE phone, because of the (IMO) ugly UI and the not-updating of older devices (I´ll also flash custom ROMs on my next phone, but developing custom ROMs of new Android versions is, as you all know, easier, if you can use the libs from the stock ROM.
Maybe I´ll buy a HTC because they have good-looking phones with good specs and beautiful HTC Sense.
Yes HTC allday! Im still hoping for HTC salsa 2.3 to get fixed... not too bothered about ics on x8, il probs have a new phone to accommodate that in the near future...but I do recommend to anyone who likes HTC style Rom to try this beast out...

If some devs contribute we can have ics on x8 and it should work fine if its well built.if hero, who has worse specifications can run it,x8 should run it better.
It isn't really "worse". It has slower CPU but a bit more RAM. With low RAM systems, 32MB is a significant advantage.

It seems another low-end device LG GT540 to have ICS. Yes, it also has bigger RAM but it would be regrettable if x8 couldnt have it.
