don't regret...
No regrets buying 1st gen tab. Besides can always ebay it and put towards next model so no issues

did you guys even get the time when it will be launched? i would prefer the 2nd gen of course but if it takes a long time to mass produce it especially the S-amoled ones, then i better keep this one 1st

Update: Samsung's official note on the matter lists a WSVGA resolution (i.e. 1024 x 600 as on the current Tab) and some amateur geometry applied to the image does indeed show the prototype screen above has a smaller ratio than the requisite 2:1 for a 1200 x 600 pixel display. Ah well, we still want one.
So, the only difference is the super amoled display. Well, no regrets here either. I think it'll take them a few months anyway ^^
Scenario: you regret buying first gen so you wait until the second gen comes out. You buy second gen, then Samsung announce third gen, and you regret buying second gen. The circle repeats.
Sounds familiar.

We have no idea when it will be out. Remember the first gen is out in the states only... today ! And yes, 3rd, 4th, etc... gen will be even better
You can wait forever. the big disappointment would be if they launch it after 3 or 4 months but I doubt it
You can anyway always update later and give your first gen to your GF, or use as a nice remote for home automation or lots of other stuff
No regrets to have
I personally don't care, I'll be happy enough when my Tab arrives. Although I do think this is foolish on Samsung's part to be showing off the potential next model when they are busy trying to sell the first. As much as I dislike Apple, they do get a lot of things right and companies like Samsung would do well to follow their lead by keeping a tight lid on their internal developments.

Thanks guys. I have decided to keep my order..
my understanding is that the factory they need to mass produce these larger super amoled screens will not be ready until feb/march time. i remember them saying that in wont be until qtr 2 2011 before they will be available in large numbers.

That's the spirit, as if you wait for the new model you'll likely find them showing off the 3rd gen just as you place your order. Can't win, so rather than keep waiting you can just go ahead and enjoy what's out now.
resolution will be same. the initial news was wrong.

And see a massive drop in sales/revenue/profits?
Samsung aren't like Apple, they don't just stick their logo on a finished product and sell it on, they manufacture everything themselves from the individual components through to finished consumer products.
A large part of their business is based around selling those components to other companies, it's Samsung's AMOLED panels that were in the likes of the HTC Desire until supply issues forced the switch to Sony's S-LCD panels instead. So if they stop showing off new things like their 7" S-AMOLED panels, then they risk losing sales.
Anyway, the fact that they have demoed this new S-AMOLED panel in a Tab-like device doesn't necessarily mean they are already working on the Tab's successor. All we know is that they are developing a 7" S-AMOLED display (frankly not much of a surprise) and they are showing it off at a trade-show.
Given how difficult it is to make one slate-style device look different to any other one, is anyone shocked that their demo unit looks a lot like a Tab? There's only so many ways of designing an all-touchscreen device before it resembles something else that's already out there.
Plus it wouldn't be much of a surprise if they'd just stuck one into a Tab instead of building all-new custom hardware just for demo purposes, it would save money, which would make a lot of sense.
No regrets. Its in many ways better than Apple. I even downloaded a movie with it and unzipped it there and then.
But really curious about how very different it can be when compared to the AMOLED. I feel this is already very nice.

I enjoy using the Galaxy Tab mark-1 everyday, it is a very effective laptop companion (it has replaced many of my "desktop" applications), and of course it is also useful as a standalone portable device, on-the-go.
Sure, it'll be obsoleted faster than we can blink, but that's always the case with electronic gadgets...ask Apple fans
At any rate, if one is not in a rush to buy, there will be a lot more purchase options during Q1 2011, including devices powered by Tegra 2, with better displays, etc. Worth the wait for those who can, otherwise I say: buy now and enjoy the productivity boost (unless you play Angry Birds for too long of course ).
I believe I read that Samsung won't be selling these screens or devices using them until Summer 2011. Not interested in waiting that long.

Supposedly that's Samsung's "World leading design"... It looks like another iPad clone. Not saying it will perform like one, but it definitely looks like one.
I'm patiently awaiting the arrival of Archos' new line (8th generation) before I get another tablet.

I think the 7in size might be nice. I had one of those Augen Gentouch78 and the only thing I liked about it was the size, it was also a 7in. I was able to hold it in both hands and thumb the keyboard comfortably. Wound up just returning it after a few weeks.

Way to spin what I said into something useless, and and nothing to the thread at the same time.
Anyway, back on topic.
I meant by the shape of it, the curves of the corners (from the preview page). It looks to be about the same shape and design layout. The only difference I see is instead of one bottom button, it has a set of keys.
Take a look at the Archos 8th generation, and notice how they look nothing like the iPad. Hence why I said this device does look like "another iPad clone".

Nope, definitely just a tablet.
More than likely they'll offer a WiFi version, and a 3G+WiFi version. Of course the latter would cost more and would require a contract with a carrier.
But no, most certainly not a phone.

how is that anything "new". samsung has been trying to make a clone of iphone and itouch in the past few years. Each version fails like the next, and they ditch it without supporting it with updates at all, and move onto their next "big" idea.

Plus one to that. Although I don't want them to go bankrupt because they make pretty good TVs. But they really need to start doing things better - they have the resources/talent but without the vision/direction/focus.

I really hope you are right. The problem is people say that every time a new Samsung phone comes out, yet they haven't improved one bit. I still hope you are right though. More competition = better for us.
Anyone else notice that September 10th was circled on the Calendar app they showed on the Teaser. My video froze up at that exact moment when I was watching it, only way I noticed......just curious if it means anything or not....probably not considering the Samsung event Sept. 16th......but I can always hope!
Hopefully the following article is misinformed (I do also have a Tab)
http://www.engadget.com/2011/01/03/honeycomb-to-require-dual-core-processor-initially-tablet-only/
Otherwise we'll have to wait for devs to port Honeycomb to our tabs. Which may very well not happen since few of them have SGTs (and given the news flow they may very well pass it...) plus our hardware may be too limited (Underpowered processor, too small screen resolution) and we may very well want to pass on honeycomb too (If it's only for tabs and not for phones, forget about phone functionalities...)
Anyway let's just hope this is not true (Would hate to have to dump my tab only after 3 months of use...)
It's not like SGT becomes somehow inferior just because there's a new version of Android. It is a great device as it is.
All the more reason for me to justify picking up a Tab 2 when it is released
I love my tab as it is, and I see that there are already improvements to be made through updates to FroYo, so I am not really worried because I am satisfied even with my stock tab now.
Same here - I bought an unactivated vzw tab, and it just does everything I need. If there's a Tab 2 with Honeycomb, I'll look at it, but with my other android devices, the dev community seems to produce better functionality than the vendors do, and I can hopefully skip all the vendor-installed crap with a clean image when that time arrives.
R.I.P.
These are really bad news for us owners.
Maybe I'll switch to iOS devices then. They're running so much smoother compared to android 2.X devices...
We won't see how good the tab with its powervr 540 graphics would perform with proper hardwareacceleration honeycomb will provide.
And that, ladies and gentlemen is why we're all here on XDA......
The way things are looking, unless Google is planning on HC being a tablet only OS, there will be a basic HC OS for phones and an extra feature set that's unlocked for tablets with dual core procs and 1280 X 720 screens. What may happen is that the 7" tablet will essentially be an oversized phone with XDA hacking it so you can use the tablet features on the 7" tablets.
As a Galaxy Tab owner I'm not really that butthurt by this because I can envision having a camera phone and 7" tablet as mobile devices and a wifi only 12" tablet for home use. If the HC tablet features truly require a larger screen, then I'm content with a 7" tablet that more of a mobile device.
I am a big fan of the 16:9 screen dimension. Better for movies and better for mutli-pane implementation.
The worry I have is this will just cut the spread of SGT buyers. If we end up with a device not very popular and with a small customer/devs base you can forget about any dream of good custom roms or app developments
Sent from my GT-P1000 using XDA App
HTC is rumored to be releasing a 7" tablet, and the SGT has sold millions in a short amount of time. Unlike the iPhone, there was no carrier based reason to purchase the SGT over the iPad, but people did, in large part due to the form factor. I suspect that the 7" tab will not go away.
LOL, Any body want to sell their antiquated Galaxy Tab?
I've been looking to get one on AT&T or T-Mo... a trade for a mint 16GB iPhone4 perhaps???
FUD
There are no mins for Gingerbread, and IF there are any for Honeycomb, the community devs will pull apart what is a good update for the GTab and cook it up.
Honestly if you are worried, start a fund to get a tab into more dev hands...
lets not forget these are claims and have not been officialy confirmed by Google themselves yet... we still have hope. i don't think Samsung will just abandon us like this. they will probably be expecting to release their next sucessor to the tab in september. honeycomb will come out before then, and hopefully the update will be pushed out to us. the gtab was made in mind to be upgradable to Honeycomb. much like the HD2 was made to be upgradable to WP7... but that never happened.
only time will tell if we get the update.

Eh...it's only bad news if you don't like your Tab the way it is now. So it's not bad news for me, it's just more news.
What is bad is how all of a sudden there are so many deals for people to get these Galaxy Tabs. That had dramaticly reduced the cost. My guess that are getting rid of invintory. And it seems this is going on before CES. Just my view
What deals? That $100 Verizon price drop? Good luck finding a Verizon store that will sell one for $500 no-contract, it's a rumor and not official, at least not yet.
The T-Mobile $349 on a 2-year? That's not a price reduction, it's a little lubrication for the contract buttsecks. The Best Buy and Amazon sales? Short term holiday traffic generators. The UK/Euro price drops? Those were adjustments to bring the device in line with US pricing once the North American Tabs were released.
Lets not forget economy of scale, the more they make and sell, the cheaper each individual unit becomes to produce, and they can (and often do) lower prices over the life of a product to reflect this.
As for Honeycomb, Asus just announced a 7" Honeycomb tablet with 1024x600 resolution, so that part of the specs rumor is busted right away.
And any way you slice it, we're looking at March at the very least for a Honeycomb tablet explosion*. That's six months after the Tab launched. That's six months of awesome Tab usage before you should start to get the urge to replace it.
The alternative would have been to do without for six months. Life is too short for holding out for the next best thing...buying the best thing you can now is almost always a better bet.
*The Motorola tablet may launch before then, but frankly, I don't give a DAMN about the Motorola tablet, because it's a 10" device and I don't want one of those.

Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 OR Wait for Tegra Three devices?
I would also allow for you to suggest other devices but please only android and please only 10 inch tablets.
Also the new tegra three devices might not be as thin or good-looking as the samsung which i really care about.
The only reason i like tegra is because of the support it has in the android app developing community so please try to keep the suggestions to tegra devices unless you have a good reason to contradict it.
This is simple for me.
If you can wait, wait.
If not go for it.
I couldn't wait
If you can wait, it means you will NEVER buy a device lol. When Tegra 3 devices come out, Tegra 4 will be announced. I passed on the galaxy tab to wait for a tegra 2 device and now I hear nvidias "Kal-El" quad core. **** it! I'm going for the Gtab!
lol might as well buy the Samsung now and then sell it once the new one you like comes out. But its true, do you really want to keep waiting? Not I, I'm jumping on June 8th.
Personally I would get one now. You can play the waiting game and never get one as there is always a better one around the corner. You can of course wait but I suspect that you won’t see many better or 4 core tablets announced until CES 2012 next year.

No, if you can wait, it means.... you can wait! I don't know about the rest of you, but I've lived my life just fine without a table. It will be a cool toy to have, but I don't NEED one. Tech gadgets are always progressing, but the tablet market is currently moving at a very fast pace. Tegra 3 is supposed to be out later this year, and is supposed to be 5x the performance. That's a much more significant performance/time ratio than other more "mature" tech products. If you can wait, then there's certainly something to be said for jumping on when the curve flattens out a little. What I do will depend a lot on pricing.
i think it's worth waiting... tegra3 pre production chips allready shipped to manyfacturers, mass production starts around august. motorola and probably asus will be releasing products short after ( promising releases before back-to-school time )
this means that you can, in theory, own a quad core beast in within 3 to 4 months months...
and they are realy fast, throw your pc and your mediaplayers out of the window and start using your tablet instead
perhaps you can invest in a program like best buy's buy back program, so when something new comes out, you can trade in your old and get the new for cheap

If you pay attention to the market it doesn't look that way. I personally think we wont see anything better then whats out now until next year. Most of these company's still need to make money off the products that are currently on the market.
Take Samsung for example, think of the time and money that has been spent building and promoting their new tablets around the world. I really don't see them coming out with any new tablets at the end of the year even if they had the new teleology. they first need to make a profit.

Asus, Motorola, and Amazon (and probably others) are all rumored to have Tegra 3 tablets by the end of the year. You can't make much money off of the products you currently have on the market if they are obsoleted by new products your competitors are offering.
I'm going to revise my initial answer.
If you're asking the question "Should I wait?". You should wait.
After the iPad released last year, I started trying to imagine, what exactly I would use a tablet for. Once I was a bit settled on what I wanted to do with it, I started looking for something that would match my needs.
When the 10.1v was announced I realised it was a match and I eagerly went after it.
Maybe you should wait until you are certain that the tablet you are buying is a match for your requirements.

I run the 10.1v and love it.
Things it is:
-light
-sexy (please no 3.5mm jokes)
-brilliant batery (i charge it each night but it only gets down to 30-50% after full day of use)
-netbook replacment (people will argue this but i haven't found a netbook more fun then this, and you can put debian on it )
-casual gaming (not sure of anything on the market you cannotplay onit except porley designed games that are just tiny boxs)
Things it isn't:
-high def cinema (you can run standard def fine and it looks great but if you are obsesd with 720P wait)
-ipad (yer thats a pritty good reason )
-high end device (tegra 2 is fun and all but nexus s still out performes all tegra 2 devices so if you want the bigest and best wait for qualcomm)
In conclusion if you want a great device that doesn't need to be compared to a PC (which i hate that thats were we uave goten in tablets) then go pick one up, but if your after a device that you want to luanch thermal nucular war with wait for qualcomm.

I was really looking forward to GT10.1 but no luck.
It has Tegra 2 inside which is no good for me and has no sd slot which is also no good for me.
I do want a tablet like this but I do have a purpose in getting one - it has to replace my netbook.
Meaning I want to watch 720p mkv without re encoding, netflix, etc...
So far non of the tablets (including iPad2) can do what I want.
If I would be to take one now just to have it Asus Transformer seems like a better choice.
There is an sd slot on it, there is a great dock with batt. for it and looks like it will be/is cheaper.

Not mad. Just because a newer version came out, it's not like it changes how the current model performs. The best part is I'm sure developers will steal some of the new stuff and add it to our rooms.

I like the angular appearance. It lends a masculine look, which goes well with the Droid (as in "robotic") motif. There's nothing wrong with being sleek and smooth, but the iPad has already cornered the market with that.
Otherwise, the selling hook with this, as well as most of the tabs coming out next month, will be ICS. My bet is the new SoC, whatever it is, will be able to handle 1080p HP, which is a sore point for the Teg2. Hardware + software improvements = compelling upgrade. I think most early adopters will jump (again), if not for this, then for another ICS tab.
Seems to be about the right time tables for a new release. They haven't officially said anything, so the assumption I have is that it is still a little while off on the horizon...
Dispatched at the Speed of Light from my XOOM
So,companies make a product and keep it short of features like full hd playback so that there are customers for 2nd,3rd version.
All these rumor threads do is make me feel even more assraped by Motorola and Google.

i love my xoom but im done with moto products...

No I am not mad and I just got my Xoom like 3 weeks ago.
Tablets are just like cell phones in the aspect of how quickly they are updated for newer models. One would go nuts at all of the updates and if we waited for each one to buy we would buy them every six months.
Also it looks like there is no SD card slot according to them. PASS - no thanks.
Ill enjoy my Xoom for a year or so. Then Ill see what is shakin by then. Maybe it will be a quad core supertablet that can teleport us through time.

So if the Skype-developers say that they not support the Tegra2 yet, how is that Moto's fault? Skype develops Skype (or MS for that matter), not Moto.
According to TIMN, apparently there'll be at least two Xoom2 tabs, a 10" and a 8.2", and reportedly a smaller one yet.
Sounds like the new gen models have corrected the main shortcomings of the old--IPS screen, thin, light. I'm curious, though, since the mentioned new features ("Media Edition", IR, etc) are all consumer-oriented, and CEO dude had said that enterprise was the target.
Looking forward to see pricing. My guess is $400 for the 8.2, assuming consumer model, $450-ish for the 10.
Am also excited to hear B&N rumors of two NookC follow-ups. It's getting to the fun time of the year, with new toys popping up. The anticipation is even better than the real thing! Heh.
Talk of stylus option could mean digitized display interface like Thinkpad Tablet maybe?

It's not a joke. This is what sounds like is going to be the Media Center edition which will be the 8 inch version. It looks to me like it will be competing directly with Amazon's new Kindle tablet as a smaller yet powerful light weight device that can be held with one hand without a problem. It's smart to make two versions, just in case someone didn't want all that power, but would favor portability more so.
The regular 10 inch Xoom 2 will most likely be sporting the usual: beefed up specs all around, as well as a lighter weight. I don't know if I'm getting the Xoom 2. It all depends on the specs for me. I'm good where I'm at for the time being.
Personally, I will stick with Motorola through and through. I don't see why people flip out about them. I love the Droid's, because they rule. Verizon rules the air with 4G LTE. Imma stay with both of them all the way! Still sportin' an OG Droid.
Oh OK so they will be making a 10 inch version still that I heard about earlier this year. OK I was upset at 1st only because I don't won't anything smaller than what I have now.Asus still looks good as I'm sure they'll have a better screen than the XOOM but I could be wrong but I think Motorola is going to use the same screen as before??

REALLY??!!! SERIOUSLY????!!! How many tablets does Sammy think they need to through out at the public to get that they aren't going to sell until they lower prices, not specs! End rant.
Lower prices? The 10.1 is $50 cheaper than the iPad and the 8.9 is $100 cheaper...
I think they are currently priced just about right...
Wish they lowered the prices on the older tabs significantly.
Means we can root em and flash our own builds for a reasonable price
they are just making fools of the peoples who took tabs recently ....i got my first tab SGT p1000 first then few months later this 10.1 came up i took that traded for my p1000 now this 7.7 got infrared and can do calls too..god they gonna make me trade my 10.1 too
i agree, i think this is the only problem with android, we are being flooded with devices at them moment, hopefully it will slow down and we can see some more quality devices come out... pricing for samsungs tabs though are great i think, leave the lower market to other companies, I want a powerful device in my hands.
Yeah but they just need to take a break for a moment

Hold up though... The Galaxy Tab 2 is 7.7", dual core, 1ghz ram etc etc... right?
I bought mine a few weeks ago and did so because I read the new Galaxy Tab would be 7.7". I definitely wanted the 10" form factor. I love my Tab but don't want to be a fool (not that kind anyway)! Now I'm second guessing purchase

This is exactly what I mean! Sammy has now released like 5 new tablets with same basic hardware of their old tablets.. Tegra 3 is ready and being used by Asus already! I like Samsung's hardware the best, but I'm just sick of seeing *New tablets with underwhelming, old hardware in them.. I know that price is def a factor, but manufacturing 20 different tablets is expensive.. if they had 3 form factors/models it would save money for them, and then us!

Nvidia's on record saying they've lost Samsung as a customer and now consider them a competitor. So, don't hold your breath for Teg3. Teg3 is actually two old-gen A9 chips glommed together. Samsung's Exynos 5250 is in sampling making it the first A15 chip on the market when it’s supposed to release in Q2. Raw HP isn't the real issue with mobile devices. It's GPU bandwidth. A15 chips will be more powerful than Teg3 and have 5x the graphics b/w. I think a lot of manufacturers are intentionally skipping Teg3 and moving directly to A15 chips (from Samsung, TI, and Qualcomm) which are easier to fabricate and potentially less expensive. The Prime’s having a ton of issues where different devices behave differently when updates are rolled out. It’s too early to say its Teg3 but it’s a potential candidate for the problems.
Meh, I like choice. I don't see the point of complaining about it; unless you're an early adopter, you'll always be a step behind. Here' my suggestion for you: stop worrying about having the newest snazziest gear and enjoy what you do have. It's not a race.

"Unfair" would suggest they owe you some duty of not producing new models. Have you really thought this through? "We buy a thing today, and tomorrow they come up with the improv[ed] one." If this is unfair, how long do they have to wait? Do you realize that they released this tablet in May of 2011, 9 months ago, right? You also realize that the successor does not yet exist, right? This is the same complaint I've heard about technology for the last 20 years. I still don't get it.

BUT there is ALWAYS something better around the corner. A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush. Nuff said. I agree Samsungs SOC will be better, but will it be too late? Look at Windows Phone 7, its great, but 3-4 years too late..
My main point..
Is Samsung going to seriously produce 20 different models of tablets? I understand it being nice to have 'choices', but Samsung has enough work keeping past models firmware relevant, let alone producing 20 new version/sizes every few months, there is no way they can properly support that many.. I wouldn't think twice is they made actually changes to new models like vastly improved batteries, or more memory etc.
I've been saying for many years that if you buy an electronic device, it will be obsolete BEFORE you make it out of the front door of the store. You might make it back home if you buy the most expensive model of whatever. It's just the way of high tech devices these days. We consumers have only helped them by replacing perfectly functional devices just for the lasted and greatest one. Even if the new one has twice the speed or memory, do you need it?
Probably not. Yet we continue to demand, and purchase, which is just encouragement for them to continue. I honestly think its only gonna get worse. It's really our fault as consumers always wanting more and better; NOW.
When I was growing up electronics were durable goods. You bought a TV and you kept it until it quit working. Now we buy a new one because of widget xyz is better on the new model. I'm guilty of this myself also, just not as much as I used to be. Even though I have more money to spend these days.

That's ridiculous. If you knew me you'd know what a silly thing to say that is. But beyond that, my statement is exactly the opposite: I'm saying "be happy with what you have, not unhappy about what you don't have." See if you can figure out the difference between gadget lust and gadget envy.
Didn't mean any offense if it was taken that way. Just good natured hard time I was intending.
Sometimes hard to relay sarcasm in a post.

OP puts Galaxy Tab 2 in the title, then complains about how many tablets are coming out from Samsung? I mean, if you put Galaxy Note 10.1 in the title, that would make some sense, but the Galaxy Tab 2 is apparently the direct successor of the original Galaxy Tab that came out in 2010 and it's not even out yet. Who knows when it comes out.
