Now that we are soon (hopefully) to be in our third hardware revision for the Evo can someone confirm if the hardware version can be seen on the box?
It would certainly be helpful when purchasing from a store to confirm they aren't trying to pawn off the old ones first.
Thanks!
On the bottom of my box under the bar code at the end I have
Rev.B
I have a 002 version so if someone with 003 chimes in that his box shows Rev.C then yeah. Bad news is not all 003's have the same hardware so I dont see the point.
gimme a sec, Just got a revision 3 phone from asurion lemme find the box.
nvm epic fail. My dad got rid of the box.
My box said Rev. A.. My HW ID is 0002
I have 003 and my box says Rev.B.
I haven't checked if I have the Epson or Nova but the Rev. might indicate what screen it is, rather than what hardware it is. I'll check in a bit and get back to you unless someone figures it out in the mean time.
Okay. Even though I'm on hardware 0003. I have the Nova screen.
So, my theory is Rev. B is the Nova screen. Regardless of the hardware #.
That Rev. B isn't referring to the device, but to the revision of the text on the sleeve.
The only thing that pertains to the device is on the ESN sticker, and there's nothing on there about hardware versions, sadly.
Thanks to all for the info. I guess anyone purchasing should boot it up to confirm the hardware version.
I have hardware version 0003 and Rev. B
I baught my phone about a week ago
The REV is underneath the box
the hardware version is in my phone info in the settings
You are treating 002 like a red headed step child. Now when you get a phone replacement you are going to ask to under the box and boot too? A discovery was made about Epson and now Nova is inferior? Hmmm

it was posted in another thread, but one way to tell if you have Epson v Novatel is to use the power control widget to change the brightness level; if the brightness fades, then it is Nova; if the brightness change is instant, it's Epson

I saw a thread on this earlier but it wasnt exactly what I wanted to know.
so, first question: should I replace from a 0002 nova to a 0003 nova/epson? I have heard that some novas are worse than others and some people like epson more than nova. Is it worth it? or should I wait for an 0004 to maybe come out?
next question, If I did go through with the replacement, could I get a white evo? I bought mine at radio shack and I know that best buy carries them exclusively... do you think I could take mine in and say HEY! I have screen separation, light leakage like crazy and my battery case is cracked, could I get a white EVO?
I highly doubt they would give me a replacement at bb but sometimes you get lucky... lemmy know what you think
Unless you have seperation issues I wouldn't do it. I have 003 Nova and I don't see any purple tinting...Also that picture that was posted on this was edited some how no way that screen is that purple...I can even tell you myself I have NOVA.
It'll be no difference. Besides if your phone is fine now who'se to say you won't get a bad one if you switch them out, and 004 is not out from what I know...And if it is good luck 005 will be out always better.
Man just be happy with what you have...if something happens to it, worry about it when it happens...
god...

If you are under your 30 days you can return your black Evo and go to Best Buy and get a white one. That is what I did anyways
More so it was because I was having issues with my first phone, and had to return it to the store I purchased it at because they had nor was going to have any more stock. Bought the last one they had at my Best Buy
I thought about it, mainly because of the small camera lens scratches. But I heard the costs were more washed out on epson panel. I'm the end, I just kept mine.

Epson, hardware 0003
Though I don't mind the screen at all, and I don't think you would notice unless you had two Evos sitting side by side
I thought folks would find this interesting, to say the least.
There has been a lot of rumor and theorizing about the infamous "Yellow Reset Button" believed by some to signify a new run of phones, supposedly marking the phones as after the first 50k production units. This may be entirely true, partially true, or a complete fabrication, elevated to the status of urban legend, right up there with "It is illegal to kill a Praying Mantis, and you will get a $50 fine if you do, LOL! (You won't trust me on THAT at least.)
So it was with some excitement that I received a "Yellow Button Special" as my 4th warranty refurb. Let's just say that it did not quite life up to the hype, and was the absolute worst as far as lock ups, and I had 3 previous ones to compare it with. Part of the reason I put this in the Energy Forum was a Tweet that our esteemed chef put out about 5-6 weeks ago, saying that he had a yellow reset button model and was experiencing nolockups. That's quite a claim to make for ANY Windows Mobile handset, but I do not doubt his observation. I do believe it was probably early in the testing of said phone, and that he could not have kept such a sparkling record going indefinitely.
So, by way of a long story, I come to the blasted point, LOL! Anyone who haunts this forum knows my posts tend to be... let's say verbose! Nevertheless, attached are two pictures of the Part Number for two phones, both refurbs, and both from T-Mobile Warranty Support. Called and pleased my case, whereupon T-Mobile agreed to send me handset #5 - yep. This is my fifth T-Mobile HTC HD2 Phone.
And? Its GREAT! It works better than any other one I have had, in particular the Bluetooth A2DP works to my stereo headset without cutting out. I have had no lockups in over a full weeks use, with multiple ROMs flashed to it. Display is perfect, sensitive (I know thats driver, not hardware related, but just sayin. I have put it through a pretty vigorous set of daily use testing, and it has been beautiful.
Now for the clincher, and it's nothing to do with a "Yellow Reset Button". If you must know it DOES have a yellow button, BUT: It also has a different part number
Check the attached pics, which I covered my IMEI and my S/N (paranoia, no other reason, he he)
I have checked Serial/IMEI and Part Numbers on each refurb they sent, and all have had the exact same part number. Until now, that is:
The old one reads: xxxxx001-00 B
The new one reads:xxxxx001-01 XB
What does this mean? As an expert witness for the prosecution I will TELL YOU! The answer is: I haven't a clue what it means, or if it means ANYTHING. I do know that it is significant, and to me, a different Part Number means a revision. What revision, and even if its a GOOD revision remains open to speculation. I prefer to think I have "One of the new, GOOD ones", LOL. But seriously I don't know. It would be interesting if anyone cares to track these and see what we can learn, if if anyone on the forum actually KNOWS what the bumped up part # signifies. Anyone have any info?
For me, i think the rumour that they changed the button to yellow because america expects small red dots to be water indicators holds more of a ring of truth than a build version marker. I just think it coincided with a second surge in production.
hmm...interesting...are you referring only to TMOUS version or European one as well. My HD2 for instance is European and P/N reads 02-00 C
Since november Ive only ever had one entirely solid and dependable HD2, it has a p/n ending in 039-00.
im quite curious to see how these numbers reflect on the time/location of production....
What are folks doing to their HD2 to have multiple ones?
I have the TMO launch HD2 and its fine. I have updated the unit to the TMO US firmware and its fine. The only problem I had, which is annoying and I wish someone could help me fix this, is that with Facebook V1.2, it doesnt retain my credentials. regardless if I click save. I am investigating, but if someone knows how to fix this, please advise.
Otherwise, the unit is fine.

I have a problem with my unit so I'm going to send it in for servicing. I had KG3 on it and I reverted back to the official ROM.
Anyway while playing around with the device I noticed something weird. on KG3 the HW revision was 1.5 now I've reverted back to the firmware that came with the device (KF2) the HW revision has changed to 1.4.
What are you using to view the HW revision so we can all look at the same page and see if it also hold true with our units.
You own a repair shop right, couldnt you have your technicians fix it for you instead of sending it back for the 2nd time around ?

Dail *#2222# ..................... Do you even own this handset?
/me gasps and looks ahead with a meaningless expression on his face.
Why would I destroy the warranty on a new unit?
I'm pretty sure the same thing happened to me. On the original firmware i was 1.4 but when i changed it using odin i was 1.5. I wasn't sure if i'd remembered it incorrectly but i'm quite sure it was 1.4.
From memory i was also 1.4 on one of the first batches sold . Now 1.5 .

I dont think there is a way to check if your RMA is brandnew or not.
I think you should focus on whether your RMA is satisfied or defective.

hmmm...but is there no way to see in Nexus whether its a new phone or not?...thats strange, i thought with all these open source option, there should be a way to know the status...
any other thoughts guys?
I would probably check the revision by booting into bootloader. I doubt they would be any rev_10 models still lying around. I would check the serial number as well. Theres a thread on here somewhere where you can find out when and where your device was manufactured using the serial number. That should give you a good indicator.

Hey guys.
Just busted the LCD in my tab.
The back says it's a Rev 4.
The only ones that I can find that look remotely the same are Rev 3
Does the revision matter?
or would any revision work?
Thanks!

Never heard of anyone running into problems with a replacement LCD. Digitizer, yes, LCD, no. Then again, that doesn't mean there's absolutely none. I've replaced it myself, never had to look into which version.

Friend,
First post. But wanted to help you. Had my LCD broken exactly 20 days back. Tried getting it replaced under warranty, dint work. Have no accidental coverage. Out of desperation, sent out a mail using the below link (escalation) complaining about the poor build quality and comparing it with the IPAD. Surprisingly, i got a mail from a team different from the regular customer service with RMA details. I sent out the laptop to Asus Service Center in Texas. It came back in exactly 10 days. all set, screen replaced no questions asked. Hope this helps. Find the attached pic of my broken tab.
