I tried Dial ##786# and also *#*#786#*#* .... both does not seem to work in Nexus 4....
Can you please let me know in Nexus 4 how to check the RTN screen to know the status of the phone.
thx

I dont think there is a way to check if your RMA is brandnew or not.
I think you should focus on whether your RMA is satisfied or defective.

hmmm...but is there no way to see in Nexus whether its a new phone or not?...thats strange, i thought with all these open source option, there should be a way to know the status...
any other thoughts guys?

I would probably check the revision by booting into bootloader. I doubt they would be any rev_10 models still lying around. I would check the serial number as well. Theres a thread on here somewhere where you can find out when and where your device was manufactured using the serial number. That should give you a good indicator.

Give ebay buyer my serial number?

Hi everybody,
I've got my first Nexus 7 (8GB) listed on ebay (because I decided to go with a 16GB). A potential buyer has written asking if I can give him the serial number because "I want to check with google to make sure it isn't stolen." So, I'm wondering if there's any danger to this. I can't imagine what nefarious things he might be able to do with the serial number, but the request struck me as...just a little odd. So I figured I'd ask some advice before I respond.
Thanks.
Just me but I wouldn't give the full serial to anyone but the final buyer they could try to register it themselves if you haven't already, but its OK to give them the first two (ie C6 etc) if they are trying to figure out the batch its from.
I wouldn't do it, but I don't trust strangers. If its "stolen" they are protected through eBay/ PayPal. Give him the batch number. If he wants more, something is probably fishy.

I would not have given. Buyer is protected by ebay policies.

I dont see why not, personnaly, if I was the buyer, I would like too to check if the device has been stolen or not.

Or you know...with the serial number you could be malicious and call Google to report it stolen...just to be a ****. Nope...better to keep that number to yourself till sold.
Again, as stated, the buyer is protected by eBay and/or PayPal and has no reason beyond his/her own paranoia to need that info.

Who knows, who cares. There is still no reason to give some random internet person your serial number.

How Can I Tell If a GT-N7000 is Genuine? (Should I Buy this Phone?)

I'm going to buy a used GT-N7000 off craigslist tomorrow but I'm concerned that it could be an imitation as I have read that there are several Chinese copies available ...
How can I tell if the phone on craigslist is the real deal?
I'd very much appreciate any quick responses!
Thanks!

Thanks for responding, glevitan!
What should I be looking for under "about phone," exactly?
I know "about phone" will give you the model number, but couldn't a fake Note list a fake model number as well? All they would have to do is have it say "GT-N7000" under model number, right?
Thanks again for weighing in!

Check that build version And model are correct. Usually that information differs from oem Samsung.

But if it is rooted and running a ROM, which I believe this one is (some ICS rom), then won't it just display the custom ROM info under "Build number?"
At least, that is the way it is with my current S2. Under "Build number" it says SHOstock Rom v1.9.4.
EDIT: Just looked at the ad again--it doesn't say the phone is running a custom ROM, just that it is running the latest version of ICS ... What build number would that be?
Here is the ad, with photos, in case that helps ...

Looks genuine to me.

From pictures looking genuine .... Although do check the information mentioned by glevitan
Take the battery cover off, remove the battery. It will say GT N7000. But that looks legit.
It looks like he's running a Miui of some sort by the lock screen.
Personally the easiest way to spot a fake is to check the camera...most replica phones won't even sport a 8mp camera and hd video recording. After checking the 'About' in the settings, your best bet would be to check the cam. Check the cam's menu,photo/video resolution/quality.
Thanks to all of you for the excellent suggestions! They're very much appreciated and I feel a lot more confident going to meet with this guy today. Hopefully I'll be joining the Note family ....

Hey check the internal memory it should be over 11GB.. If it's less.. Around 8GB so might be a brick device..

the real one has the battery charging input near the home button, the fake one battery charging slot is next to audio 3.55mm hole.
you may also closely examine the box, any bar coding, manufacturing info.Remove the back cover examine the sticker under the batteryMatch the IMEI, *#06# to the sticker, and to label on box.Use some web-based IMEI look up sites to verify the IMEI matches the model.
buy from a geniune samsung authorise dealer.

There are many imei checking sites.. Get the imei and give a search. It will give you the manufacture info in a sec...
Build quality is also a thing, Only Geniune Note will feel solid in hand without any quickie noise...
A fake won't have an spen if a stylus is there then either will that work or multi touch pinch etc. Will but if both work then it's genuine.

IMEI change on Nexus 4

Hello xda
I ask this because my phone was stolen and I reported it to my carrier (forgot to activate cerberus after instalation of PA), but I have to know if there is the possibility that the bastart who took my nexus from me could activate it by changing IMEI by one that isn't reported.
I dont want to know how to do it, I want to know if it's hard to do the change. I like to think my phone is now bricked

Changing IMEI isn't something can be done without specific equipment.

If it comforts you a little bit the bastard who took your phone probably has no clue wtf to do with it other than play with it. Besides its hard to do and he probably don't known the first thing about changing anything on a android phone.
Yes, it can be done with the right tools and knowledge.

I don't know, in my country stealing cell phones is the most common thing so I think they probably have the tools and knowledge. The good think its that Nexus 4 will oficially arrive to my contry in June so probably they dont know much about it, I hope my dear Nexus 4 got bricked.

[Q] Hardware issues to look for out of the box?

Hi!
I'm getting a Note 4 delivered tomorrow, hopefully it turns out to be an N910C like I wanted!
Are there any known hardware faults that I should look for out of the box? Eg screen gap or any wifi issues?
Also, is there a testing mode that I can try out? Any way to know which variant it is (Except for the model number on the box?)
Cheers, and thank you!

There is no known issues with Note 4. This app called CPU-Z will tell you everything about your phone.
Hi. U can dial *#0*# from dialer and check all the hardware inside your phone.

New poll about hardware failures

It's been a long time since the last poll,so I waited for someone to make another poll but no one did.
Recently got one, without knowing about this issue. Got a 603, but now I'll be constantly worried. Yesterday a reboot took unusually long, and I was ready to freak out. lol

I read on reddit that someone with the same serial number got bootlooped, so keep backing up just in case.Btw,what's your hardware revision?
H815T 505 , So far no failure

I guess I'll regret trying LG. Oh well.. I'll make sure to keep things backup up. Do I need to worry about the data on the microSD card?
Hardware revision is 1.1, I think.

Hah, my G4's motherboard was changed with new one with this S/N 603, HW version 1.0. After 4X HD, Optimus G, Nexus 4, G2, Nexus 5, G Pro 2, G3, definitely the G4 will be my last LG phone, if bootloop again! [emoji1]
With respect to the HW revision, I assume that the number on the back sticker of the packaging is the one to look at, right? It start's with MEZ, then a bunch of numbers and ends in (1.1) - so that should mean it's 1.1, right? Because there is no mention of the revision on the phone itself/behind the battery. I can only find S/N, IMEI & the model number H815 there, but neither rev 1.0 nor rev 1.1?
All stickers show only new SN, IMEI and model number. I can see the HW Version only in Hidden menu-> SVC Menu-> Version Info-> HW Version. As i said mine is v1.0.
I think 505 should have it's own spot in the poll. Most failures seem to be 505

most fails are on 505 because it's the first batch(so the oldest),so it tends to fail sooner than others.Anyways,lg didn't acknowledge the issue before jan 2016,and it's been known by a lot that 506-509 should be affected too .
has anyone with hardware revision 1.1 ever experienced bootloop?it's weird how newer G4s like 603 got 1.0,maybe that's why they are failing.

There is a vast difference between 505 failures and any other model
505 had an almost 50% fail rate
Others may be within normal limits for an electronic device

Just try to get a S/N 510+ and build date on 12 / 2015
This poll does not distinguish between single or dual sim. And i'm beginning to think it ain't a problem on dual sim.
A friend of mine bought a duel sim on Hong Kong, after 4 months the phone won't recognize sim anymore, we tried everything it's just broken.

If you can get the serial number and it starts with 600+ ,then MAYBE you won't have any problems, but as you can some 600+ are also failing,soooooo...I recommend not buying it unless with warranty.
