Win7 64 <-> HD2 = Generic Serial? unknown device - HD2 General

Hi there.
Just wandering.. I use Win7 Ult. 64-bit. And when I connect my HD2, it appears as an uknown device "Generic Serial" in device manager.
Trying to uninstall it, remove it, and restart pc, but doesn`t help.
Does anyone know how to fix this?
EDIT: Never mind. Win7 Ult. 64-bit does not come with "Windows Mobile Decvice Center" Dowloading latest WMDC (6.1 for 64-bit) solved the problem.
Sorry about the unnecessary post
Thank you
regards
Ztonez

Install, if it is "Generic Serial" run Windows Update. It downloads and install update and after reboot it´ll be OK

I don't have the "Generic serial" but have a "Bluetooth periferal device" with the yellow mark on it in my Win7 / HD2 installation, which I can not solve by running windows update.
Anyone has any ideas on hoy to fix that?

Posible fx
Try this:
Disconnect HD2 from PC, reboot pc
On de the HD2 go into settings -> connections -> USB to PC
UNcheck the "faster connection" thingy under active sync.
Press OK and when PC is rebooted connect the HD2 to an USB port you havent connected the HD2 to yet or use bluetooth. Make sure you have the lastest async/mob dev cent running.
let us know if it works

8525 sync with vista

Im having a big headache here, I have windows vista enterprise edition (the release version) and i downloaded Windows Mobile Device Center from microsoft. My problem is when ever I try to connect the device, windows installs HTC usb sync and after that I get another message saying I need to install drivers for a "unknown device" I went to device manager and sure enough somehow this "unknown device" is related to my phone, It askes to look for drivers and can not find any. Anyway, this is somehow creating a problem because I can not connect the phone with WMDC.
Thanks for your help,
Chris
Similar problems here with Vista Ultimte RTM. You can also watch here for some answers.

A couple weeks ago I tried to sync my Cingular 8525 but had no luck, Vista managed to find and install some HTC drivers, but I couldn't get active sync to work (mobile device center now in vista). But I could browse the files on the device. Then just today I went into device manager and manually told it to look for new drivers online, it did, found some, and installed them, then mobile device center started working and I could sync. Wahoo!

This just happened to me today after using wmdc on vista business for 2 months. now my device comes up as "uknow device" in the device manager and then a few seconds later I get a popup window telling me that my USB device is unknown.
Damn annoying. im trying to figure out what happened and if i cant, then ill reinstall windows vista. bloody M$ crap.
when Vista prompt u for installing the driver, you have to manually select the driver location! Select driver directory to the Windows directory... Then Vista will be able to locate and loaded the device driver... i tried it works...
good luck

it was working fine for 2 months so I assume the correct drivers were installed. nonetheless, i will try update the driver for "unknown device" if I can find the inf file in the windows directory.
i tried it,
it says that my "Unknown Device" in the USB controllers category has the latest drivers installed.
this is too funny.
not sure what went wrong here.
Ive also uninstalled wmdc and reinstalled it many times and still no luck.
hrrrmmmmm, i feel a format and image coming up soon.
OK, i have solved the problem.
who would have thought I had 2 faulty sync-charge cables. They worked on Sunday and stopped working on Monday.
I noticed this happened after I used WM5torage. This is strange.
Anyways, things are back to normal
I have been sync with Windows Vista Ultimate both USB and Bluetooth for weeks. Especially the Bluetooth works great both sync and install software!!

Getting "usb device not recognized" on Vista

When I plug my Universal (a Qtek 9000) into my computer with Vista Business on it using a USB cable I get a "usb device not recognized" message popping up and it fails to recognize the device and does not install any drivers for it. So now I have a "unknown device" in my device manager.
I have installed the latest version of Windows Mobile Device Center (WMDC) and if I connect via Bluetooth I can sync just fine, no problem.
However, with the USB cable, no such luck.
I have tried to upgrade the drivers on the "unknown device" and set it to browse "c:\windows" and all subfolders but it just tells me that I have the newest driver for "unknown device" allready installed...
It charges just fine with the USB cable.
Does anyone have any hints on how I might solve this problem?
Resolved?
Hi mate,
did you get this issue resolved? Getting the same thing from my MDA Pro?
Charges fine but getting USB device not recognized error.
Nope.
Nope, never did. Ended up scrapping it in the end and now I'm using the HTC Cruse Touch. Haven't tried that on Vista yet though.
OK cheers mate, Looks like i'll have to do the same!
All I want is to be able to unlock it so I can use it on O2!!!!
Maybe you have to set in settings > connections > USB to PC "Enable advanced network funcionality". Try also set different options at AS in PDA.

Currently it has got WM5 and I cannot find the options to disable "Enable advanced network funcionality" on PDA. Maybe I am missing something but I am sure thats a WM6 option as on my HTC Artemis running WM6 has got it but not the HTC Universal.
Damn! I have the same with my HTC Polaris. And I can't figure out what is the reason... :/ It has suddenly stop working... I have tried with "Enable advance USB... " I have winXP sp3.. ActiveSync 4.5 and WM6.1 by BePe. :/ Bluetooth is working like harm!
What to do?
no solution!

Vista Sync Problem

Hi,
Previously I was running Black 3.0 and was synching with Vista and had no problems.
I recently updated the ROM to Black Satin and now I cannot sync.
When I connect the device to my computer it initially recognises it and gives an option to create a partnership but then it disappears and it says that no device is connected.
Does anyone have an idea of what could be wrong or of ways of fixing it?
Thanks.
Also..
I have followed the guide here http://www.mrvanx.org/hermes_guide/vista/index.html for vista and I get an error installing the drivers (error attached).
I have also turned off advanced usb networking..

First, be sure you're running the latest WMDC 6.1. Then reboot both the computer and the device. If that doesn't fix it, click on Start -> Settings -> Connections -> USB to PC and check or uncheck "Enable advanced network functionality".
Then... report back.
yup I have done all that
Rebooted about 20 times (pc+device) even tried reflashing different roms but still no go!
Have unchecked advanced networking..
Make sure you have the right driver from VistaRUU.zip floating around. I did these exact steps last night and am also running Black Satin. I don't have a problem. Be sure to re-check the box that says allow USB connections.
Good luck. Try going over all the steps in case you might have missed something.
Spathi, in your case, you may just need to re-download the Hermes USB drivers.
P.S. I did also update my SPL to HardSPL2.0
I have tried installing the drivers numerous times.
I have tried the drivers from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=33892&d=1170385335 and here
http://mahmood1.com/Documents/64bit.rar
I am on 64bit Vista and have downloaded the 64bit drivers and turned off driver signing..
My phone has SPL 2.10lipro which I believe is the latest?

i had the same problem a little while ago. search my user name for posts and you'll find the thread. but the solution was... uninstall wmdc reboot, and download and reinstall. works like a charm.
I HAD the same problem.
OK.. I had the same problems, troubleshooting with MS for $35.00 didn't solve it. The one thing that did solve it is kind of ridiculous and easy.. So here's the solution..
It turns out Vista has issues with detecting USB drivers on certain types of chipsets. It looks like the USB ports are correctly installed, but it just doesn't like the devices (like Smartphones) connected to it.
I solved the problem by buying a USB card with a VIA chipset. It's amazing how well it works now. Of course, I discover this AFTER a reinstall of Vista and everything else.. Duh! Ugh!
Hope this helps other people feel less pain.
-Percy
I have tried the uninstall/reinstall thing before (just tried it again) no luck there.
I just tried another usb card and that didnt work either.
Only thing I haven't tried is reinstalling windows...
mine is more weird
upgraded from wmdc 6.0 to 6.1.6965 now when it bootloader, wmdc doesn't even connect at all. even return to wmdc 6.0 doesn't solve the problem
There are a couple of things with Vista..
I figured out these few little nuggets during my travels..
1. Make sure you have all the newest updates. (MS apparently knows of this problem as they have released a patch to resolve some USB issues)
2. The external USB Card you try has to have the VIA USB Drivers.
3. Update your bios to something newer (also a big problem)
4. Turn on Legacy Support for USB (important too)
5. Disable your ACPI if you're having troubles.
6. Have you tried connecting the device directly to the MOBO USB Ports?
I can't stress this enough.. the VIA USB Chipset seems to work so if you try an external card, make sure it has a VIA chipset on it. They're completely different than the standard Vista USB Drivers.
For those that are having problems - check on your desktop system in the device manager to see if you have the "Microsoft Remote Mobile Adapter" installed as a network card. If you do, uninstall it. This driver gets in the way of the WMDC 6.1 connection with USB.
It apparently gets loaded if you attach your device while having "advanced networking" enabled in the PC->USB setup on the device. Once you've done that, you're stuck. Turning off the "advanced networking" on the device won't help, because that remote driver is already loaded. You need to disconnect your device, unstall that driver, be sure "advanced networking" is turned off, and then connect your device again. I've had this happen a couple of times to me after re-flashing the ROMs.
Brian.
I've been searching a lot about this and just can't figure it out... I can sync my tytn (8525 as I call it) with windows media player, but can't do it with "windows mobile device center". Actually, everytime I click on wmdc, it opens up the "Change Connections SEttings" where it says "Device Connected" up top but then I click on ok and apparently nothing happens...

Internet Sharing with HTC diamond2 (WM 6.5) and windows 7

Hi, i had problems syncronizing my phone and laptop. When i plugged in the laptop failed to install drivers and recognize the phone as "Generic RNDIS". I solved it by unticking "advanced functions" on my phone. Now i can sync it with windows mobile center. Unluckily when i try to use internet sharing it gives me the same problem. The laptop doesn't install the correct drivers (remote NDIS based internet sharing device) and recognize the phone as Generic RNDIS. I already installed windows mobile device center 6.1 and every kind of drivers.
Any help?
Thank you.
Active scync
Hey bro u need to install active scyn on ur laptop hear is the link download & install
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/en-us/downloads/microsoft/activesync-download.mspx
thanks for answering. Active Sync works only with windows XP or earlier. I have windows 7 and i have windows mobile center. By the way, i can't connect to internet.
Any other idea?
It might have been a failed driver install... Go to device manager and un-install the driver but make sure the "DELETE DRIVER" box is UNCHECKED. Once it is uninstalled, reboot PC and plug the phone back in. Happened to me once and this fixed it.

[Q] hd2 to windows 7 via usb

okay so i cant find a solution to this one, if you can help me, id really apreciate it.
okay so im trying to connect my hd2 to my windows 7 laptop. whenever i connect the two. nothing happens except my phone starts charging!
I tried it on 4 computers, all didn't work
i did the "turn off faster sync thing, that didn't work
ii JUST got this usb cord, so its not broken or anything
i also hard reseted my phone a while back if that helps
thanks in advance
What OS are you running on your HD2?
Windows Mobile 6.5 requires Active Sync to be installed on your machine and should prompt you to do so the first time you connect via USB.
Android should be effortless by just selecting the USB connectivity from the drop down alert menu.
WP7 requires that you have installed the latest version of Windows Mobile Device Center, which can be found by online search. You must download the appropriate x86 or x64 version, as is appropriate to your version of Win7.
Is there a scenario that I've missed?
Thank you for posting!!
