Very odd issue, since I got my beautiful Nexus 4 on Friday -
When my Mrs calls me the quality is terrible...almost unusable - when I call her back its as clear as day.
I've done some fun trouble shooting - different phones- settings and the likes
All I can seem to find is that when one of us is on 2G/ edge the call quality is fine the problem only happens when she calls me and we are both on 3G or HSDPA
Weirdest thing ever.
She's using an Xperia U on t-mobile (EE UK) and I'm using a Nexus 4 on Orange (EE UK)
I've got a slight inckeling it may be HD voice calling causing the issue as my previous phone (Samsung GS3) had this and it was great - I've already spoken to Orange (EE) T-mobile (a slightly different team of EE) and Google... no help so far!
Anyone have any other ideas for trouble shooting or how this issue can be fixed short of turning off my 3G?!
I would love to have that feature in my phone as well ...

.... Thanks for the assistance....
It appears to be an APN setting on both handsets - I reset them to default and it seemed better...not great but tolerable
Hope this helps someone in the future
Anyone had issues not receiving calls? I have had several calls that did not come through but did go to my voicemail. I had my wife call me but my phone never rang. We were standing right next to each other. I have a stock Verizon model with the kit Kat update.

No one else has had this problem besides me? Wonder what is going on with my phone?
I've had this with mine, a mate said he'd been trying to call me a couple of days ago and just kept getting to answerphone.
The phone was next to me in a good signal area. I think I was running CloudyPro rom at the time if that has any bearing on it.
Wth did Motorola do!!! Looks like we suffer from the same thing the droid turbo does, no simultaneous voice and data till VOLTE update. This seems like a massive step backwards.
http://phandroid.com/2014/09/20/verizon-moto-x-launch-without-simultaneous-voice-data/
I dont have this problems, but im not on VzW either
But isnt this a way to eliminate the CDMA system ? How is that a step backwards ?
It does sucks right now, but its supposed to be much better isnt it ?
Not yet but we will soon. This phone was developed to support volte. Im waiting for the update as well. Hope its not buggy....
I don't think full volte is the answer especially when LTE speeds can vary so wildly, call are going to be unreliable . I can still make a regular voice call on zero bars most times. Don't see how this is the future

Agreed. The idea of VZW deploying technology that drops calls is astonishing to me. In my area, my phone switches frequently between 4G and 3G (typically when walking into stores and restaurants).
I have stuck with VZW for 15+ years because of the great phone service.
I found this out the hard way the other day... i really hope advanced calling 1.0 (or whatever its called) comes out soon. I feel like simultaneous voice + data was fixed 5+ years ago.
I didn't realize this until the other day. Its one feature I miss from my note 3
How does the lack of simultaneous voice and data affect everyone? The only time I foresee a problem is using navigation (Google maps) while on a call.
For me I may have to look up something while on the phone with an employee. Now I have to hang up and call them back. Its a pain
Using Google voice for calls is a work around for now since that just uses data
It's not actually Motorola fault its Verizon. Verizon is forcing all new phones to go this route so they can push their "advanced calling" aka VoLTE. Once the switch everyone over to this they can start refarming their CDMA network.
It's also an issue on US Cellular. The Moto X 2014 and the LG G3 both do not support simultaneous talk/data, while older devices have. I've heard rumors that this "feature" (or lack of a feature) is paving the way to LTE roaming, though I have no concrete evidence.
My Moto X is TMobile, so not an issue. However I grabbed A Droid Turbo on Friday and the workaround is easy, just use Google Hangouts to make your voice calls over data. I tested over the weekend and it sounds clear enough and was surprisingly light on the data.
You might have to have Google Voice to make it work.

Your devices work fine with VoLTE. Your carriers are assholes.

The only problem with that is it uses a different phone number, so nobody knows who is calling them., which often times means they aren't going to answer.
It'll come soon. The droid Turbo (as well as the Moto x) will have VoLTE soon... Probably Q1 2015

It uses your Google Voice number, which for many of us, it's the only number we give out. It's not an issue for those fully vested in Google Voice. They're might even be done way to have Hangouts show your actual number if that's an issue for you.
Right now, on every device I own, including an LTE N7, if I were to call you, you would be unable to tell if I were using phone company voice or Hangouts VOIP. At least not by the caller ID.

Everyone has my carrier phone number so switching to my google voice number would be tedious. I was hoping there was a way around that. Thanks for the reply.

Get your calls forwarded! Its easy on US Cellular. I have it so anyone calling my cell number automatically (and unknowingly) gets forwarded to my GVoice.
Does the G2 in general have crap call quality? I've got a pair of LS980, one on Ting, and one of Ringplus--both sound like crap, both sound heavily compressed and robotic; people say I sound garbled and echoey. The microphones on both though, I've tested by recording myself, I've tested by calling my voicemail and recording new greetings, and all that sounds truly pristine.
I'd like to think it's just crappy Sprint service, but on Virgin Mobile and Boost Mobile in this area (on different phones) the call quality was excellent, no issues. Maybe just Ting and Ringplus to blame? Maybe the ls980 is just crap for call quality? I do not know but am very concerned.
Maybe I should try T-mobile and see how that sounds? How much slower the data speeds are since I'll be forsaking LTE? Is it reasonable to convert an ls980 over to Boost Mobile (their plans are quite fetching nowadays)?
Any insight, recommendations, or mad fresh knowledge drops would be appreciated. Thanks!
Wierd. In my experience RingPlus caused trouble because the calls go through thier own servers, but Ting was fine because they're just reselling Sprint's own service.
I gave up on RingPlus for precisely this reason but since switching to Ting the quality is just fine.
I'm stumped.
hi there,
is there a way to reduce the hiss/static/crackling noise on the background that I hear when the other person talks, especially noticeable when on speaker? we have 2 Samsung S5 and it seems to be on both phones.
I just did a test calling my landline and the noise is there. weirdly enough, also on my blackberry there's a similar noise. does it depend by the cell tower? maybe is not the S5 itself but i found other people saying there's this static/hiss noise on the background...it's really weird.
thanks
Gabrio
it's like a swish to be more precise....
If it's happening with 2 S5s, and a blackberry, I'd put my money on the cell tower
Try travelling far enough away that both the phone making the call, and the one receiving it, are using a totally different tower

yeah, actually I have just heard that our network (o2) is implementing the following - maybe is already old elsewhere - "HD Voice" and also Voice over LTE (VoLTE) is undergoing testing on some networks.
