Hi, I had a warranty replacement shipped out for my wifes G1, and when the phone is locked, the red LED comes on. not a major issue, but mildly annoying. iirc, it (LED) is also on when the phone is powered off!
Has anyone ever seen this?

The only time I've noted a red led is when the battery is very low, or when I'm charging with the phone powered off. If you're noticing this behavior under any other scenario, I'd send it back. However, it may be a software glitch... perhaps prior to sending it back you could try a hard reset.

Hi. I recently bought of ebay an almost new XDA Exec, but when I got it it doesn't want to turn on. The guy who've owned this one doesn't understand anything from hardware. I think the device has stayed without the main battery for a while (after being charged) .. let's say 2 weeks. I've plugged in the battery and charged for 1 hour already, but when I press the POWER button nothing happens. Any ideas how could I fix this? (With turn on I mean absolutly nothing happens when I press the power button)
Bloody well send it back & ask for your money back!

Hi i-nZ,
Does the LED light come on to indicate that it is charging when it's plugged in?

No light. If I remove the battery while charging there is red light and if I do a soft reset there is a red light blink again. What light should I expect?
When it's plugged in with the battery, there should be an orange or green light (orange if it's charging, green if it's fully charged) in the upper left along the hinge in pda mode. No light when it's plugged in would seem to indicate that it's not charging, so it wouldn't be surprising that it didn't do anything after being plugged in, even for an hour. I haven't had a battery die on me yet, but I'm wondering if that might be the case here.
The red light that comes on after the battery is removed is throwing me as I wouldn't have expected it to do anything when the battery wasn't in. I guess that's a warning that there is no battery?
Have you contacted the seller about this yet?
Hmm. I think it is a warning that there is no battery and it is charging, so this is actually great news, cause this means the charging plug is not damaged(i think :S). I will receive my secondary battery soon. The problem with contacting the seller is that it will take ages for him to reply and such. I will surely get a refund for the dead battery if that's the issue, but I must travel in a few days, so I need that gadget working
I've got a brand new replacement battery and it doesn't work again! Again there is no green/orange/red light. Any ideas what could be possibly broken?

Sorry to say, but I think you just killed it by doing this. I believe I read it from the manual that you are not supposed to plug it in without the battery on it.
I've been actually told that the battery has been charged, so it's not a dead battery
I know this might sound stupid; but can you get it into boot mode?
The first xda exec I got had a fault where it wouldn't turn on, however if you pressed the reset button it would come on.
Of course this one went straight back to the shop. My advice is to try and return it.

When i press the POWER button nothing happens. Dunno how to get into boot mode...
Tried to do a hard reset by pressing the two buttons with horizontal line and poking the reset meanwhile, but it doesn't seem to react...
It's the power button, light button and soft reset all at once.
Also what happens if you try and charge it off of a USB connection minus the battery?
Red light, but if with battery - no light.
P.S: Did the light + power + reset. Nothing happens. There is no light blink or something (as I Had on an old pocket pc of mine).
I think it is time to return it and get a refund. Any way you just bought if right? Better do it as early as possible otherwise whoever sold you the device might not take the responsibility.
OMFG!!! The reset button was stuck... Found that myself
All fixed now?
What happened here as the fault looks exactly the same as my current issue....
i'm having a problem that i can't find much information on.
i have a verizon audiovox utstarcom xv6700 (htc apache)
i drained the battery one night, to the point of what seems no return.
whenever i plug in the phone, a solid red light comes on.
whenever i plug in the phone without the battery inserted, a flashing red light comes on.
whenever i instert the battery in the base that came with the phone,
the charging light flashes yellow and then turns green.
i haven't installed anything more than software trials seeing as i just bought this phone.
if i can find a fix for this, without having to go through waranty issues, it'd be much appreciated.
any help?
thank you everybody!
When the battery is completely drained, the charging light should turn on and be red. How long did you try to charge it? You have to leave it plugged in for a bit to get enough charge to get past the red light.
retry
unfortunately,
i have already tried this.
i leave it plugged in for aprox. an hour,
and the red light dissapears.
however nothing happens after that either.
i unplug it, and plug it back in,
and the red light reappears.
any other suggestions?
I have one, bring it back and get a new one. did u buy it from a official dealer?
no,
i bought it off of a guy who had it for two weeks and didn't think it was worth the money.
he did buy it from a verizon store brand new,
and like i said i've only had it for a short period of time.
i was waiting to see if i could find a fix without sending it back,
to do without getting the reciept information required for the warranty.
i've read about other htc products having problems with this,
and everyone says that there is a problem,
like mentioned before, that once the battery is drained,
it doesn't have the "juice" to start charging again.
alot of people have recharged it with batteries.
i'm planning on finding my voltage reader (whatever it's called)
and seeing if it's the batteries dead.
other people have said that there is a problem with bad data ports.
which could have been from the previous owner,
they say that after drops that a few weeks after the drop it goes out.
any other suggestions?
thanks guys!
The red light can indicate battery fault. Remove the battery and clean the contacts, then try charging in the back of the cradle rather than using the USB connector. It might come back. Fully discharging is not good for the battery, so if it comes back, listen to the phone and charge it went is says the battery is low (20%???). Other than that, batteries are cheap, try a new one.
i can't turn on my phone while it is charging throught usb and normal power. the red light is on but i just can't turn it on. anyone can help me with this? thanksXD
Did you run the battery all the way down?
Red light means charge is below acceptable level.
Yep red light means battery is below the level where it can power the device and it has to charge so that's is why it won't turn on. Just give it a good charge and it will be as good as new hopefully.
even when i plug it in with 50% it'll still be red light. is there something wrong?
I was having the same issue with a cingular branded 8525. hard reset didnt work..flashing the rom didnt work. at&t sent me a new one a few days ago for free.. just talk to their warranty exchange and tell them htc deemed the device defective.
...(then install wm6)
ya, i bought mine in HK so exchanging it is out of the question, anyone else have ideas?
This has been a problem that has affected a small number of Windows Mobile phones all along. This is not specific to the Hermes or any other WM PDA phone.
If you can't exchange it, and you've tried the basic things like a hard reset and flashing the ROM, then you'll just have to live with it.
(You do know that you should first try a hard reset for every problem like this, right?)
For some odd reason, my 8525 randomly turned itself off and now when I charge it, only the red light comes on and doesnt change into an Amber light. Something tells me my battery might have kicked the bucket but can anyone confirm this at all for me?
Hi,
Anyone got any ideas on this one?
My prophet will not switch on, go in to bootloader or get recognised on a PC with USB connection.
The only life in the phone is when connected to a charger, the red light at the top comes on.
Have tried Hard resets/ new battery etc but still no luck.
Couldn't find anything on forum to help. Very stuck.
if you leave the charger on long enough, does the red light turn to green i.e. fully charged? i'm sure you've tried to switch it on while charged?
Hi,
Yeah light turns green after a few hours but still no turn on or bootloader.
The other thing is the red light stays on when the battery has been removed. Is this normal? Never noticed it before.
Sussed it....
Ended up opening the case. with the case off, the light went orange and screen light up. Case back on, red light and no screen.
Turns out the mainboard was shorting out on the back of the lcd screen. Bit of parcel tape sorted the problem.
