Hi. I recently bought of ebay an almost new XDA Exec, but when I got it it doesn't want to turn on. The guy who've owned this one doesn't understand anything from hardware. I think the device has stayed without the main battery for a while (after being charged) .. let's say 2 weeks. I've plugged in the battery and charged for 1 hour already, but when I press the POWER button nothing happens. Any ideas how could I fix this? (With turn on I mean absolutly nothing happens when I press the power button)
Bloody well send it back & ask for your money back!

Hi i-nZ,
Does the LED light come on to indicate that it is charging when it's plugged in?

No light. If I remove the battery while charging there is red light and if I do a soft reset there is a red light blink again. What light should I expect?
When it's plugged in with the battery, there should be an orange or green light (orange if it's charging, green if it's fully charged) in the upper left along the hinge in pda mode. No light when it's plugged in would seem to indicate that it's not charging, so it wouldn't be surprising that it didn't do anything after being plugged in, even for an hour. I haven't had a battery die on me yet, but I'm wondering if that might be the case here.
The red light that comes on after the battery is removed is throwing me as I wouldn't have expected it to do anything when the battery wasn't in. I guess that's a warning that there is no battery?
Have you contacted the seller about this yet?
Hmm. I think it is a warning that there is no battery and it is charging, so this is actually great news, cause this means the charging plug is not damaged(i think :S). I will receive my secondary battery soon. The problem with contacting the seller is that it will take ages for him to reply and such. I will surely get a refund for the dead battery if that's the issue, but I must travel in a few days, so I need that gadget working
I've got a brand new replacement battery and it doesn't work again! Again there is no green/orange/red light. Any ideas what could be possibly broken?

Sorry to say, but I think you just killed it by doing this. I believe I read it from the manual that you are not supposed to plug it in without the battery on it.
I've been actually told that the battery has been charged, so it's not a dead battery
I know this might sound stupid; but can you get it into boot mode?
The first xda exec I got had a fault where it wouldn't turn on, however if you pressed the reset button it would come on.
Of course this one went straight back to the shop. My advice is to try and return it.

When i press the POWER button nothing happens. Dunno how to get into boot mode...
Tried to do a hard reset by pressing the two buttons with horizontal line and poking the reset meanwhile, but it doesn't seem to react...
It's the power button, light button and soft reset all at once.
Also what happens if you try and charge it off of a USB connection minus the battery?
Red light, but if with battery - no light.
P.S: Did the light + power + reset. Nothing happens. There is no light blink or something (as I Had on an old pocket pc of mine).
I think it is time to return it and get a refund. Any way you just bought if right? Better do it as early as possible otherwise whoever sold you the device might not take the responsibility.
OMFG!!! The reset button was stuck... Found that myself
All fixed now?
What happened here as the fault looks exactly the same as my current issue....

Hello all,
So I went to turn on my Fire and wanted to boot into recovery so I long pressed the power button (+20 secs). Now my Fire won't start up. I get the momentary green light which comes on but no boot up - just a black screen.
Any ideas...i.e. help? Cheers.
For info I'm running (or I am normally...hehe) CM9. Cheers bis...
does the green light stay on if you turn it on ?
or is it "blinking" - like it reboots ?
cm9 seems to drain the battery in some conditions
may be charging with the wall charger for some hours helps
do you see a sort of backlight on the black screen ?
would verify it with hard power down to see the difference

The green light only comes on for a second after pressing the power button. The screen is completely black. What is a "hard power down"?
Also, plugged into the outlet there is no light, charging or otherwise.
Cheers for your response and help. Much appreciated.

hard power down is meant to hold the power button for ~20sec - till it turns off
if you plug it to the wall charger it can last up to half an hour till the orange light comes up when the battery is heavily drained - would recommend to let it on the charger over night in such a case

Oh yes, that's what I did initially - which I assumed put me in this state. But it might well be that it powered down completely. It's plugged in the outlet so I'll it charge more. It's been charging for over 3 hours and there's still no light, orange or other.
hmmm - the strange thing is that nothing shows up on the display - this implies that it don't have enough power to start to the bootloader or the bootloader is messed up
if the bootloader is messed up there is only one way to load a new one
you have to open the kf for this ...
is it recognized at the computer in any way (shown up or the typical ding ding sound) ?

Problem is I don't have a computer now...I'll leave it plugged in all day and hope for a change of some sort. If not I'll have to do another one of my now famous calls to Amazon. "I don't get it...it just won't start..." And two days later another one arrives. I have to say they are incredibly accomodating on that front...but I'd like to avoid it. Three times is pushing my luck I think...

Yes, that's my experience. I just say "the screen is black and it won't turn on" - they've never had a problem with it.
Well, a thorough charge solved my issue. After the charge, I did a hard power off and then powered on normally. Whew...
Glad to not have to send it back to Amazon...I shall make sure it is fully charged from now on.

Hey
Usually I dont use caps in titles or "help" "urgent" etc but something has happpened to my Desire Z and now it just wont turn on.
Basically I left it charging with the green led on and when I went somewhere I noticed that the green led wasnt on but I supposed that it was actually blinking notifing me of some notification so I didnt even look. When I got to my destination, I went to turn it on and usual way a press of the power button. The screen didnt light up. I supposed it was some kernel panic or something so I simply took out the battery and put it back in and pressed the power button to turn on. This is when I started to worry: It didnt turn on. I again took it out and in and still nothing. Only at ONE point did it show the white HTC logo booting then it went black again and still nothing.
I came back home and plugged it into the charger, another fear: No LED at all. Im trying it with and without the battery and it seems like nothing. Seems dead.
Is there any other test I can do or something? Im worried about it....
Also, it is rooted so if I return it, I have the warranty problem of not serving rooted devices. And I cant unroot it since it wont turn on.
Please some help
Thanks!
After about 30 minutes without the batter inside, I reinstered it and it was plugged into the charger and orange LED went up I turned it on and it turned on
Relieved but....I do want to know the reason behind this just in case next time....My warranty expires May 5 so.....
On that last note, should I unroot it and return it just to get a refund? Scared something like this may rehappen.
By default, on a nightly, it was on the interactive governor when it has always been on ondamand. After reading a description, Ive changed it to ondamand just in case...
No one answered cause this is really common and you would have found hundreds of these threads if you had searched.
Next time it happens:
Take the battery out
Wait 5mins (not 5 seconds)
put battery in
hold the power button for a few seconds
plug in the charger after the screen has light up (NOT BEFORE)!)
Phone will boot and be charging
If that doesn't work, try again but leave the battery out for 30mins.
If that doesn't work you need a new battery.

Hallo,
I've got a N4 Stock and yesterday the screen just went black. The phone is not loading (no battery sign and no LED lighting).
I already tried to go to Recovery Mode via pressing Power+VolumeDown while plugging in. Unfortunately only thing I get is a solid red LED for ca. 10 seconds and then nothing.
I assumed that the battery died because of temperature shock since I had been jogging in the cold just before the phone died. But battery change unfortunately didn't help (still the same response. Am I supposed to perform some sort of reset after battery change?)
My question is following: any chances to rescue the phone or even more important to retrieve data from it?
Thanks in advance!
I would really appreciate any help

try holding power and volume up for 1 minute with the device unplugged (it simulates a battery pull) after 1 minute, release the power and vol up buttons and plug the device in. You should see a blinking red LED after doing this, and it should start charging. If it remains on a solid red LED after trying the above, im afraid it may be bricked.

Unfortunately it didn't help. Also I think the solution targets a battery problem. Maybe I haven't made it clear - the battery is already exchanged. Therefore I assume ScumDroid is right and the phone is bricked indeed.

It's a hard guess, but u dont lose anything to try.
Hello.
When I try to turn on my N4, I hold power button, and after about 10 seconds Red light blinks (just once, if it's connected to USB that 1 blink last for 3 seconds, if connected to wall, it's just quick 1 blink. If it not connected anywhere there is no action at all, it just stays dead, no blinks, nothing). Same if I try to go in bootloader by holding volume down+power.
This happened after I successfully installed CM12, with no errors. Then I rebooted my phone, and it just stayed black as it is now. Battery was around 25~30% that time, and phone was connected to USB.
Did I bricked my phone totally? I am now trying to charge it up already for 1 hour... but it nothing changes.
I have searched here for similar problems, but couldn't find solution...
Edit: Charging already for 10h+ , still same..
Edit2: I removed battery, reconnected after a while, still same problem.
So I tested it with multimeter, it says 2.6V, but fully charged must be 3.8V. Could this be a problem? I was charging it for whole night.
Edit3: I just got new battery . But it looks the same.. phone doesn't boot up.. same red light blinks once.. so.. its my phone is dead? I can't believe that...
When I connect to PC usb, there are unrecognized deviced called "QHSUSB_DLOAD".
easy fix
Hold down the power button and the volume down button at the same time until phone reboots. If you see the little android no need to worry just let go and wait for your device to reboot on its own. This is not a factory reset it's just like restarting your device. :good:

I had the same problem a year ago, I tried to remove the battery, charging all night, and other solutions that I found online and no one worked.
Finally I found here in XDA a user with the same problem and his solution was charger the phone with a wireless charger, a friend of mine has one and I put the phone to charge and after a few minutes the screen goes on and the phone was charged, then I press power button and the nexus run again.
Hope this works.
Sorry for my bad English, I'm from Spain.
Good luck.
(I bought a wireless charger in case it happen again)
I don't know anyone with wireless charger. I already ordered a new battery, and then I probably will get wireless charger also. Ty.
But this problem is very weird if you think so.. I think it happened because of many aspects together:
1) Battery was already below 30%
2) I pretty regularly charge phone with USB (won't do it again)
3) It was connected to PC USB in same time.
4) I installed CM12 ROM in same time
So main reason I think is USB, that I restarted phone while it was on pretty low battery and with USB connected.. phone restarted and got invalid voltages and couldn't even boot up or charge phone. I also found an article which says, minimum voltage, when phone battery has 0%, it's 3.0V, so I was below that.. it just screwed everything and battery died. Well, I am not sure for 100% that it's battery fault, but I hope so, I really love my N4 and still wanna use it for long time, I hope it's not dead phone, just a dead battery. Lets see! I will update this thread , when I get my new battery (less than month probably).
Sorry, my english is also not perfect. I am from Latvia.
I was playing when it happened to me. The phone was very very hot and the battery was around 70%. When I put in the wireless charged and I can reboot the phone the battery was at 65%, so it had charge but the phone won't boot.
I charge my phone almost every day, sometimes with AC, others with USB (plugging to PC) or wireless that depends of my needs
I hope you can fix it. Good luck.
Btw. Do you know if battery charges with wireless charger, if it's removed from the phone?
Don't think it does, since the receiving coils for wireless charging are located just behind the glass back.

Major Issue Google
This "Nexus SOD" issue is showing up on many sites across the Internet. I have multiple "Nexus" devices including 2 Nexus 4, 1 Nexus 5, 2 "Nexus 7 2013". It suddenly started out of the blue with one of my Nexus 4 phones. Symptoms included rapid battery discharge. I am using Lollipop 5.1 on all devices. There are many claims as to the cause, Hardware Motherboard, Power Button etc. Others claim it is "Software Related" or App Related. The problem effects Nexus 4 and Nexus 5 phones. I have ordered a new motherboard for my nexus 4 device and see if that makes a difference.
This problem should warrant a "Major Android Lollipop Crisis Team" by Google to investigate the cause and let us know what it is and what Google is doing to solve the problem before moving to announce "Android M". This issue needs to brought up and actively pursued at the upcoming "Google I/O Conference" by the strong Android Developers Groups to press for "Formal Action"

I had this problem a long time ago and my fix worked for me after doing a little research it seems like this is a case called battery total discharge. The fix was simply to charge your phone using the wall adapter that came with your phone (I still use my old apple cube wall thing) and to wait for the red light to appear then wait about ten minutes before trying to reboot.
I just got new battery . But it looks the same.. phone doesn't boot up.. same red light blinks once.. so.. its my phone is dead? I can't believe that...

Just tried booting without battery, and connecting to wall. Same - red light blinks once, after I hold Power button or Power+Volume down for about 15 seconds. If I keep buttons pressed, it just repeats every ~15 seconds.
Power buttons works fine.
After I checked that Device manager thing in google.. it looks very bad.. phone is dead.. probably need to change motherboard. I am just shocked, how this could happen... I didn't receive any errors during CM12 installation. Phone just instantly died after restart.
Hello,
I was on a phone call earlier today and my 6P (Nougat 7.0 stock, EX kernel, 90% off charge before the call) turned itself OFF and the notification light was blinking red. I tried starting it as usual, using the power button, to no avail. I tried plugging it in to the OEM power cable, also to no avail. I plugged it into my computer using the OEM USB cable; still nothing. Nothing I did would elicit any response from the phone at all. I checked online, and tried power button plus down volume technique. Nothing. Even after keeping it connected to the stock OEM charger for more than an hour, the screen is still blank and notification light is still blinking red.
Q: Is the battery or motherboard dead? Should I leave it for an over night charge and see if it boots backup? Or should I RMA it without warranty?
Any help on this would be extremely helpful.
I have only had that issue once where the phone said 40% but suddenly died and blinky red light but plugged it in and then screen flashed that it needed charging then was able to turn it on after a minute. Maybe your charger is not working or that you need to RMA if you have rooted your phone or anything I've never had an issue of it destroying warranty. With Nexus or HTC.

My Nexus 6P did the same thing... Just turned off and the notification light blinked red. I can't turn it on. Charging seems to work since current is passing to the phone (via USB current meter). But won't turn on. In your post, what is R. O. D.? Did you ever figure out what went wrong? Should I get a technician to look at it or just buy a new phone? My warranty expired about a month ago and Huawei wont do anything for me. Thanks
FWIW - i fixed mine...
Perhaps different set of variables but i woke to find my 6p doing the red blink shuffle. power button, 2 blinks i believe, plug to charge, constant blinking.
what worked for me- unplugged, help vol + and power for 15 seconds, blinked once maybe 10seconds in. afterwards, plugged to power, showed charging icon, no blinks. let it charge and all was back to normal. (this is with unlocked bootloader, not sure on other specs as it was a backup device and i have forgotten. when i get home, if anyone requires, i can post exacts on it, though doubt it will be necessary)

Literally the same thing happened to me. Constant blinking, when I hold down the power button 2 blinks. *Heart Attack* This frickin happening 2 days before my holiday, but doing what you've said above worked. Observing it going from 0% to 9% in the bootloader as I type this.
Could this be a symptom of something worse? Like the charger part of the motherboard giving out? Because I've had this phone on charge for a few good hours through the night, where it managed to die and stop charging.
old thread here. but just to add to it for any new folks that come across this problem. I bought a new battery and replaced it. And still only get the red light of death. So it has to be something other than the battery.
Same for me, new charge board and new battery and no change.
The power and volume trick doesn't work for me.
If I plug the charger in the red light stops blinking but it still doesn't turn on.
If I leave it unplugged for long enough it goes back to the red light blink so it's obviously draining the battery even thought it doesn't appear to be powered up.
This only happened to me once. Battery died and the phone shut down. Charged it for an hour on oem charger and it would only flash the red light. I had to charge it from my laptop usb port and for some reason that did the trick
