Ok Im following the directions in section II. from this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=358615
-I did everything up to step 7.
-My screen turned white like the directions said it would.
-ActiveSync lost connection like it said it would.
-I followed the steps on the black DOS window and now the wizard is open.
Before the wizard will continue, I have to check a box confirming I followed the steps above, but here's where my problem is.
The first step says connect the PDA phone to the USB cable - obviously it already is.
The second step says establish an ActiveSync connection with your PDA phone but my screen is still white and I dont have an ActiveSync connection.
Am I supposed to unplug the USB cable then plug it back in to establish a new ActiveSync connection?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The activesync connection is on, even if you don't see it. Just hit next.

I have Imate pda 2 .I Want to use it as an external modem and connect my notebook ( Hp Pavillion 4141) to the internet via GPRS through bluetooth
Could someone please give me a step by step ( I am a novice ) instruction as to how to do this?
hi
did u find a solution ! ??? i can help if u r still Not able to do it.
i could do with a hand
i have the O2 XDAIIi. I followed the O2 instructions from there web site. Im connecting my Tosiba Laptop to the XDA via USB. i can get the laptop to see the xda as a wireless modem, it talks to the xda and the xda shows the 'flashing' modem lights on the screen. the problem i have is the laptop just says page cant be displayed. If you have idiot instructions that wouls be great. the laptop is running XP home edition.
Thanks Pete
I'm very interested in this, because I have "free" gprs at the moment, and if i could run my laptop VIA gprs (even if it is slow) it would free my life up alot!
I didn't even manage to get as far as my laptop seeing my XDA IIi as a wireless modem. Could you send me the link on the O2 site on how to get that far?
the site is here
http://www.my-xda.com/xda2i_spec.html
scroll down and you find this and more
http://www.my-xda.com/downloads/SettingUp_XdaII_s_i_modem.pdf
No when I came to set this up I found my XP didnt match the screen shots so did my best.
also it tells you to put the xda in modem opertation when in the cradle but you need to do it before for, so the PC sees it as a modem rather than xda

Hi
Someone knows where to get the HTC USB modem driver ?
I don't have thedisk
Thanks
I got it....should be tagged to this message!!
I also managed to get the thing working in the end...
I uninstalled the modem and the network link.
ran the modem prog on the xda, hit start plugged into the usb on the laptop
The laptop active sync disabled before plug in!!
Finds the HTC modem and installs
Then rather than setting up a connection I launched internet explorer, tool, internet options, connections
set one up through there...
YOU DO NEED to add the initalization string from the O2 instruction sheet for the serial connection though. otherwise it fails the connection
AT+CGDCONT=1,"IP","MOBILE.O2.CO"
also check out this place for more info on GPRS settup

thats exactly... the way it should be.. 100% working!
anybody out there with a macintosh who has done this??????
Just getting around to trying your instructions.
If this works I will be super happy. More happy than a Chocoholic in a chocolate wearhouse....or an alcoholic with the keys to a brewary.
this stupid board
just to clear this up for the USB mode you still need to enter the string. which can be found on the O2 instructions for the serial connetion of i posted there anyway.
Pete
I attempted to set it up, but got no-where really....
The instructions are very confusing.
tomw86 Ive added you to msm so you if you're on i can try and chat you through it.
Did you get the modem installed??
Here's how I did it.
Open active sync, File, connection settings.
Disable the USB option.
Close Active sync
fire up the XDA, Programs, WModem (wireless modem program)
Plug the XDA into the computer.
It should now find the modem and go through the give me a driver bit. Tell it to go manual and point it to where the drive is located, if it is the one I posted above then you will need to unzip it first (I had to zip it to upload onto here) or point to the location on the cd.
Let me know if you get that far. Ill try and sort out the rest. I got the modem connected and the laptop to talk to it, connecting to O2 but my IE wouldnt connect through it. I ended up removing the connection and staring again and it worked.

Ok, I am going to sound fairly foolish I know; but have been trying to look for a way of stopping active sync prior to disconnecting the USB cable from the Exec. There is no such option on the phone under the Active Sync Menu items (in fact, the only one highlighted is 'Status', all others are greyed out). No option on the Active Sync 4.1 on the PC either. Tried to stop the device by going to the USB manager but no option for the Exec.
Usually I have just been yanking the USB cable out of the Exec but fear that may not be the optimum solution. Am sure there is another way but am too daft to notice and this irks me some.
Anyone who can shed any light on this? Thanks a lot.
Cheers, Vikas
Try this from the WiKi pages:
How can I stop Active Sync from always turning-on even when it is not connected to my PC?
Go to menu->add server source->write down any server address (fake)->complete procedure then menu->schedule->switch to manually (at the top of the list)
You can delete the created server after you configure your schedule. This only stops active sync from opening automatically when not connected via USB, but it does not stop active sync from actually syncing every 5 minutes or so when connected to your computer via USB.
I am not sure which one you want to stop, but this suggestion saves your precious memory and battery as well.
That fix works a treat as well, I did this on my Pro and all is fine although I did not have to create a server account as I actually use a hosted Exchnage account, but only wanted to sync when I wanted to not automatically.
Thanks Christian, appreciate it. Tried out your suggestion and it seems to work though I was unable to delete the fake server address entered.
Actually, wanted to know what is the best procedure to follow if my Exec is connected to the PC with the USB cable, and I have synced my data. After that, I wish to disconnect. In that case, do I just take the USB cable out of the Exec or should I first try and disconnect some other way and THEN take the cable out? Thanks.
Cheers, Vikas.

Hi Vikas,
You can delete the created exchange server by:
Active Sync>Options>Highlight the name of the server you want to delete>Tap Delete>Tap YES to the prompt message
There is no icon nor menu to disconnect if you are connected via USB to your computer. Just make sure that your Universal is idle and not currently syncing before you unplug it from the USB. You can also press the OFF button then pull out the USB cable if you prefer.
Dear Christian,
Thanks a ton, really appreciate it. Will do as you suggest and follow the instructions.
Will check and see that the computer is not syncing before disconnecting the USB cable to the Exec.
Thanks a lot again.
Cheers, Vikas.

I'm having trouble updating the rom. i've got it downloaded, and i can connect to activesync, but as soon as i start the installation for the rom, it disconnects from activesync and some times goes to the rgb screen. does anyone have any suggestions?
also, im having trouble keeping a connection in general in activesync. it rarely connects all the way and its a huge hassle. any suggestions?
simplist answer would be a faulty USB cable. try another cable and port. besides that it could be driver issues, phone issues, software issues etc etc.
If you go over to the Cingular Forums (HTC), with a search you will find your answer. I believe that you need to establish your usb sync connection before you start download. And then, you need to wait approximately thirty minutes for the full ROM update to load and install. It is normal to see the RGB screen as well as seeing that sync connection is lost. Just ignore. But, once again, you might want to check Cingular - oops, the new AT&T
Same Problem here
I have updated several ROMS, but had some problems with Black Magic. Wanted to go back or re-install it...
Do have SPL-2.10.Olipro !
When I do have a connection thru Active Sync to my Hermes, I start the update-application, it starts, my device is going into the bootloader screen, but the connection is lost....after a while my PC is given me the ERROR 260-message...
Used 2 different cables, several USB-ports...without a USB-connection checked in Active Sync, my Hermes never connects to my PC..
Please help...what do I do wrong, did I demolished my Hermes or what???
same here
anyone find a straight answer to this in the other threads?
Look HERE for problems occuring during upgrades. I found that it answers just about everything that could and does, happen during upgrading
Also make sure you have Hard SPL installed and follow the directions carefully. Go HERE for that
These 2 links should answer just about all questions regarding upgrade problems. There's also a link to Mr. Vanx Upgrade Guide in my signature. Extremely helpful
if you can i would suggest ...upgrade the rom dicetly from de micro sd card its the best way i think, you will never have the usb problem again because you will not need it.
I just got my new laptop (Toshiba M400) and am trying to set up my 8125 for tethering. I am able to do that via USB, but I would like to have that for BT also. From all the threads I have read, I should have a "bluetooth modem" if they are connected, but I don't. Has anybody been able to connect the 8125 to Vista via bluetooth and get an internet connection that way? Could you please post a description of what needs to be done?
Thanks.

Im curious as well.

Yes, I have done it with Vista. First you need to make the Bluetooth on the computer “discoverable”. Then turn on the Bluetooth on the phone and select “settings”, under devices tab, select “add new device”, once it finds the computer it will ask you to enter a password, make one up. Then a box will come up on the lower right side of the monitor on the computer. Click on it and it will state a device wants access via Bluetooth and it will ask you for a password, enter the same password here that you made up earlier. After all of that you will need to make sure the “Activesync” box is checked on the wizard. Just follow the prompts and all will work. I have done it many times since I burn a new ROM every other day. This is all I do, I don't have a "Bluetooth modem" and internet works via bluetooth.
If you have issues let me know.
Hi
I have just run start_uspl.exe on my orbit 1, after following instructions re- soft reset.
Phone is showing white screen asdescribed in tutorial
PDA ROM update utility has opened on xp laptop.
Instructed to conect via active sync.
Active sync cannot find device.
I have not touched phone and do not want to brick it.
Any giidance would be appreciated.
Thanks Colink
I am also facing similar kind of problem...with my compact MDA III.
Hi
Non connection of active sync after running start_uspl.exe sorted.
The white screen on my Orbit and No Connection on Active Sync was not a problem and a phone switch off with soft reset took me back to normal use.
Solution for running start_uspl.exe and installing new ROM; variations from uspl instructions. (Found by searching this forum + interpretation)
Run start_uspl.exe as described. (dont worry that it jumps from 70% to 100%)
At white screen disconnect USB
don't close anything
Reconnect USB, wait until PC recognises USB device (no name)
active sync does not show connected - ignore this
double click the ruu application for the ROM you want to install
(or in the case of artemes touch 4.01 or 4.02) click step 2
start_uspl.exe dialogue will ask you to confirm 4 facts - click "I completed the steps ..." + next - even though active sync is NOT connected to phone
(It takes a little courage to ignore the non connection of active sync)
start_uspl.exe dialoge will show zero details for current rom - ignore this
Click update and follwow any other instructions
When windows desktop shows on Orbit, don't worry that it takes about 3 minutes before the "tap screen", to set up, message shows on orbit.
I have done this a few times, with different roms and it works fine (if a little nerve racking).
The only bad news is (and many on this forum will not like this) - the interface doesent 'touch' the iPhone - excuse the pun.
I am not an apple / ipod fan, but have been using my iPhone for 6 months, it has lots of silly negatives, but interface, email and browsing is 'the best' - in my humble opinion.
