Dead wiz-200 need pimbackup help - 8125, K-JAM, P4300, MDA Vario General

Hey guys,
i have a dead i-mate k-jam/wiz 200.
Until about 6 months ago i didn't know i could have soo much fun modding my phone, then a friend forwarded me here. within 20 minutes i had my spl unlocked and was modding away, best thing i ever did with a phone.
Now, my wizard is dead and i had to purchase (god forsake it a nokia 6121 classic), yes you have full permission to shoot me for a fairly un moddable phone however, it lights up and makes phone calls while i drool at the HTC diamond...
my main question is i have everything backed up on mini-sd from the wizard and would like to know is there a dedicated PC only program (like pimbackup) that i can use to retrieve the data, i have almost 200 contacts i can't retrieve plus some sms messages i DO need and hope their is a PC based software that does the same as PIM backup does for the phone?
does anyone know of a dedicated PC software that can handle the work?

Well lemme ask you this, how is your Wizard dead? Does it not boot? Not charge? Not turn on etc..? And what did you do to get it to the way that it is...it may be reversable with the proper steps.

If you can't connect it to something (be it GPRS, WiFi, or ActiveSync), you can't retrieve data from it, that's pretty much going to be the end of that story, unless someone can point out a test bed you could plug an unpowered phone into and retrieve data with.
This is why you should always:
Back up important contact numbers to your SIM card, so you can switch phones on the fly without losing contact info
Sync your phone and duplicate your contact lists with Outlook (or you can try Thunderbird/Finchsync), so you can recover after a critical failure
try not to brick your phone

Still confused...

To be exact for about 4 days it would power on but after around 1-2 minutes it would fade to white on the screen, i somewhat suspect water damage, but i have been careful with the device.
Never modded something i was at least unsure of. now even if i try charging it doesn't work, even with a replacement battery i tried. It shouldn't be the rom cos i haven't had problems other than the usual you get with a few weeks use.
hasn't been overclocked (although i have been extremely curious about O/C'ing a phone )

Miss my k-jam

Sadly i only have a mini usb cord to use as charger so it narrows possible fault finding options down
i still have the data on mini-sd but now-days nowhere has SD capability and i backed up to PIM backup regurlaly.
Always synched it (with the company i was working for, since then they've deleted the profile for reserve space )
would push the boundaries but nothing that *should* brick the phone itself..
for a while it would power on, get to the windows 6.1 splash screen, boot then just randomly fade to white..
only thing i can put it down to is weather damage..but even then?!
any way i can retrieve the data from a pim backup file?? (that's on the SD card itself?)

2 years later...
Well I fixed the unit finally.
Seems that the battery went completely flat and wouldn't charge which i resolved by splicing a USB cable and attaching to the battery itself.
Now that the phone charges i can't connect to PC in Win 7 x64, XP etc. i think my soldering job on the mini USB port is to blame.
The rom i previously had loaded crashes (fade to white then restart) whenever i open the text messages menu regardless of how many messages may be stored etc.
What i'm hoping to do is flash an old official rom, trial for a few days then re flash a new rom, is it possible to flash directly from an SD card?
The information i've found so far is rather vague and from what i could find says you need to run mtty and winhex but that's where it ended.
Anyone else attempted the SD card method?
Device info:
Rom's a TNT based one WM 6.1.0.0 (don't have original RUU anymore so don't remember specifics)
G3 Wizard
IPL - 3.08
SPL - 3.08
GSM - 02.19.11

Help? Not your usual "brick."

Okay... hopefully I can get one of you much more computer savvy people to help me here.
I have NOT done anything to the rom in my phone, BUT I did add a LOT of programs to it yesterday. Also, I added omapclock and omapclockplus, and they were working fine, but over the course of the day everytime the phone woke back up from "sleep" mode, or after a soft reset, I received a message saying the phone could not execute "omapclock.lnk." From there I was able to manually use omapclock and run at 252mhz without any problems.
However, last night I left my spare battery at home, and when the battery was getting low the phone turned off. Since then when I boot it up it only goes into the IPL/SPL mode... of which my settings are:
IPL 2.25 SPL 2.25 GSM 02.25.11 OS 2.25.11
I have performed a hard reset, and I still see the exact same startup screen after it.
I am able to get the phone into bootloader mode, HOWEVER, I don't know what good that does because my mini-USB broke (like so many others I read about) and I have just been using an external battery charger and bluetooth connection to sync with my computer.
If anyone could help me, that would be excellent. I'm fairly proficient with computers, but I don't have anywhere near the knowledge many of you here do. Thanks.

Your mini usb broke.. on the bottom of your phone? Or the cable itself? If its just the cable grab one off a digital camera or something and push a new rom to it.

Unfortunately not... the mini usb broke off INSIDE the phone. I had previously sent it to a repair center, and they told me that because it had lifted the pads it was "unrepairable." So since the phone still worked fine, I simply bought a bluetooth USB adapter and external charger, and all the phone's functions have worked perfectly since.
Please... anyone?
Not to be a bother, but if anyone has any suggestions... I've learned a ton from reading this site.
I guess, this will be my last update. It just seems like... hell, I don't even know what's going on.
Thanks again.
There is a way to reflash from a memory card... But you need to have a previous backup of your ROM...
What's your phone model? Maybe I can create a backup from mine...

I sent you a PM about it.

HELP PLEASE - Need to retrieve data from non-booting M3100

Hi,
I've spent 5 hours reading this site and others and can't find an answer...
I'm in real trouble... My completely unmodified M3100 went odd last night - wouldn't load contacts, calendar or go into the phone application, then after a couple of reboots, it won't even boot up now. It gets as far as the Orange splash screen, displays some version numbers, those disappear, then it sits there on the Orange screen for ever.
I've tried leaving the battery out over night, I've tried leaving it on the Orange screen for ages - no joy.
The only thing I haven't tried is a hard reset, because I need to get the data off there if at all possible, since it hasn't been sync'd for about 4 months. Silly I know and I was thinking I should do it the other day, but never got round to it.
The only thing which seems to function ok is the bootloader. Is there any way at all of either retrieving calendar and contacts data (at a minimum) or re-flashing just the OS portion of the ROM, leaving the user data intact?
Any help would be much appreciated - I'm having kittens here!!
Cheers,
Richard Wright
not to sure but..
have you connected it via usb when you're stuck on the loading screen and in bootloader mode to see if you can retrieve data?
i doubt you will be able to but its worth a try...
if not then i doubt there would be a way to be honest
Yeah, got it plugged in now. I can talk to the device using MTTY etc. when in bootloader mode. I just wondered if there was any way to dump the data.
I looked at the PB+KITL method but unfortunately my device doesn't seem to support KITL so that's a non-starter
when you conected the device to the computer didn'y you sync contacts and all the other info via activesync?if there is no other way of geting it to boot into software try upgrading software that doesn't make a hard reset...that way all data will remain on the device...hope this helps
No, the last time I actually connected to it and sync'd was back in December
What upgrading software do you suggest which doesn't make a hard reset? I was wondering whether the OS has just got corrupted and re-flashing that part would fix it.
that's exactly what i'm saying...make a software upgrade...that will make your device boot into the operating sistem...but without formating the device...ask the "high ranked" people on this site to give you a ftp link where you can dawnload a software upgrade without formating the device...remember....think twice and analize 1000 time what you are doing and go through the steps they indicate exactly otherwise you can lose not only the data on the device but the device itself...anyway don't weep...there are solutions
Any high ranking members out there able to help?!? Please!!
WrightClick,
I'm not sure what xardas is suggesting but if it is to reinstall the OS rom then, as far as I am aware, you will definitely lose your data because installing the new OS rom is in effect a hard reset.
Someone with a bit more knowledge will come along in a minute and offer advice on how to get your data off. You may need to resign yourself to the fact that it may be lost though. Hard lesson to learn.

I am 99% sure there is no simple way of retrieving your DATA. You could try PMing Olipro/Cmonex for a final definitive answer as they knows more about the inward working than most.

Backup with potential damaged digitizer

Evening all,
My phone has not been working since Sunday night, the screen and buttons are completely unresponsive. I recently put a password on the phone and when I turn it on it gets this far and I cannot enter anything to get any further.
I think a replacement handset is in order (this should be no problem) but my concern is getting a backup of the phone before I do. I've got backup software installed on it and want at the very least my contacts and recent text inbox details.
When I plug it in to the PC it tries to go to the "Disk Drive" option (I can't see this on screen but I know it is) so I can't do anything to make it use activesync.
Anybody have any ideas for me to backup the phone without being able to get into it?
(Sorry for the long-ish post)
You can try to remove your memory card thus forcing the phone to connect through ActiveSync when you plug it in.

Thanks for the reply.
Yea, I've taken the memory card out but it didn't seem to make a difference, stumped me a bit. My phone is on the "incorrect password" attempt screen now (I haven't been able to attempt entering a password) and I think I need to get past this for it to allow me the option to go into ActiveSync.

How to backup data without ActiveSync and TouchScreen?

Hello!
I'm new here and I was looking through several pages and topics but couldn't find a solution to my problem.
My touchscreen isn't usable anymore. It seems completely undamaged but I can't press anything anymore. I did a soft reset, without SIM card, with SIM card, without "SD?"card, with "SD?" card, etc... Nothing worked. I plan to do a Hard reset and if that doesn't work I have to contact my retailer. I cannot backup my data (Adresses, numbers, etc) because last time I connected the phone to the PC I choose "work as a storage device" and as my touchscreen isn't working I cannot choose the option "use ActiveSync" anymore...
Now I need a way to backup my data - somehow! I downloaded MyMobiler cause I've found a topic here with the similar problem where this was recommended. But this program also uses an ActiveSync connection. I hope to get the download link for "PocketController" but I doubt that it will be useful in my case. I could send the phone to the retailer and they would do the hardreset for me. They could try to recover as much data as possible. They said it would cost something like 20 bucks. My problem is that I'm not sure that all the data on the phone is allowed to have (like i.e. TomTomNavigator cracked and stuff like that). So I don't really want these guys to see all the data they recover...
I'm really desperate and need help. Please.
Thank you in advance
Pete
Hi
As you have "work as a storage device" on your phone can you see mobile device in your pc root when connected ?
r
Andrew
Yes! I can see the mobile device on my pcroot. I can see it as "mobile device" with the symbol of a cellphone. And I can see the "SD?"-Card as a storage device... when I click on the phone-symbol it opens another window but nothing's there.
I can open the storage device and there's everything in it that is on my SD Card but no adresses, numbers, etc.
Yes testing I can only see my SD card unfortunately you need Active Sync to see your device on your pc
Going to have another search because i am sure I have seen a solution posted.
r
Andrew
Yes that would be great. I'm searching all the time, but I can't find anything that could help me....
It seems that it's very hard to find a way to backup data without ActiveSync...
Eagerly waiting
Pete

I have searched and had no luck.
It maybe worth addressing the screen problem again.
Several people have suggested taking the battery out for a day and even putting the phone in the freezer for 15 minutes.
Don't laugh the freezer trick worked for me !
Just be sure to wrap in tissue etc. to dry the the condensation out when removing.

Hi sorry to doble post, and to bring back this old thread.
did you manage to backup your contacts?
i have the exact same problem.
screen unresponsive for the 3d time...
last use with the computer was a storage device.. so no way to choose active sync...
any help is welcomed..
just remove your microSD and next time you connect to the PC the phone will automatically select activesync.
Thanks for the quick reply!
I am going to try that on the computer i use to backup regulary as soon i am home.
one extra dumb question.. once i have the sync done.. how to put that on an android phone?
is there going to be a particular file to grab or ..it is going to be like hell hehehe.
I will google it for the answer also, jsut in case

[Fix]boot freeze-up

hello folks,
I have seen some threads talking about some WM device freezing in bootup, and stick in the 1st screen when it says "stick together", I had the same problem, and I did contacted HTC for support, it seems they dont have a solution for that problem but to send the phone to them, whicj gonna take around 10 or 15 days to get back -if the warranty still in effect- and they probably gonna charge you something more than the shipping back fees, cause you flashed your device.
I was Planing to send my phone this monday, but i though lets try something and see what gonna happen, so what i did is :
1 - take you SIM card and your SD card, (don't connect your phone to your PC)
2 - While holding the VolUp press the Power button, you will see a screen with your device information
3 - Now connect your device to you PC, and use one of the Wm costume ROM, don't worry about the guide line, and about the winSync instruction, cause it do work without windows Sync
4 - follow the instruction on the costume ROM application, and just ignore the WmSync one.
your phone will reboot, and you probably gonna see your device radio and room information.
I just did the sameting to fix my device, I don't know if just got lucky
But I do have a problem now, I cant install android on my device, and when i try to lunch CLRCAD, it does not start, even when i lunch haret, the device reboot, if someone know a fix to that problem, so may help me.
dude, out of your three posts, two have been new threads that are strictly related to user-problems in a developmental sub-forum, which just isn't cool.
its like someone walking into your work meeting and asking about the lunch schedule (not the best analogy, but you get the point)
if you're really stuck in something, a hard reset always restores things nicely

i'm just trying to stay in the dark, waiting for the moment to say something useful, by the way hard reset does not work all the time
The only time a hard reset does not work is if there is something wrong with your phone or somehow you corrupted your ROM. In that case going into Bootloader and upping a new ROM does the trick. A Task29 will really fix things well.
As far as "launching" CLRCAD...it does nothing ANYWAY! You just tap it and that is it...it merely sets up the phone for Android to have sound, nothing more...no prompts, no hour glass nothing. (A SEARCH or reading the first post would have told you this.)
If you get resets in Haret then Android did not load correctly. Merely delete your data.img and start over. If that does not work then you likely corrupted your Android build....format your SD card and reload Android from scratch.
I personally have backed up my working daily build on a weekly basis so in case my Android gets hosed, I merely have to copy my entire backup (which is just a copy of my SD card on my computer) back to the SD card after a format (but have yet to really have a need for this except months ago).
