I see many people have many issues connecting to the internet using GPRS/Edge as their main connection..this is an easy fix and just so any of you dont post many different questions about this problem here is what you do!!!
Go to Start>Settings>Connections(Bottom Tab)>Connections
Click "Add New Modem Connection"
Enter a name for the Connection: I used "EDGE"
Select a Modem Dropdown shuld be "Cellular Line (GPRS)"
Click Next
The Access Point Name (ASN) is going to be "wap.voicestream.com" (USA)
Click Next
THERE IS NO USERNAME PASSWORD OR DOMAIN!!!!
Click Finish
----------------------------------------------------------------
If it doesn't connect......
Go to Start>Settings>Connections(Bottom Tab)>Connections
Click "Manage Existing Connections"
Hold down on "EDGE" or whatever you named the connection and choose "CONNECT".
APN
Please keep in mind that this is just if you have service through T-Mobile.
Also, if you have T-Mobile Internet you can use internet2.voicestream.com.
If you have T-Mobile VPN you can use internet3.voicestream.com.
What's the difference?
T-Mobile VPN will give you a public IP address.

I've got GPRS and WiFi working perfectly.
However, everytime I switch between WiFi and GPRS, I got to reentern/remove the proxy server.
My GPRS REQUIRES the use of the proxy, so there's no going around that, and there are no unlimited data plans on the non-proxy access point [face_cry]
I've looked through both HowardForums (where I am from, I've been a Symbian user until now) and here for already existing info.
Aside from finding tons of people who couldnt get the wifi to work because of the proxy, none of those threads gave a solution that included KEEPING the proxy server for GPRS.
If there is a thread with the information to get WiFi to NOT use the GPRS proxy, just link me to the thread and Ill figure out the rest on my own
Thnx! Hope I'll get my post count increased fast so I'm not considered as a post-and-leave user.
of course u can keep the the proxy server for GPRS and surf the internet via wifi ~~
but pity that my device's interface is in chs & my broken english
(if i misunderstand ur thread, dont brick me )
u can fix it ,follow below
start menu--setting---connection--connetion,or u can see my device' captures pic1
(i dont really sure if ur device is that path,i just translated it from chinese to english)
select the icon in green (pic1)
a new window like pic2,just do it
and the key step in pic3:
the two places in red circle
dont select ur wap setting ,select my isp or my network is ok
when u want to connect internet via gprs,u rechange to ur gprs setting
enjoys
oh I understand what you mean. Yes that way I dont have to retype my proxy addresses.
Sadly, it's still not automated from what I see
I'll have to make a shortcut for that section.
Thanks woohyuksheng!
Cingular proxy cabs
Cingular has a set of cab files that enable/disable the proxy settings. if you search this forun you will find then. they are also in the latest cingular rom, black 3.0, and custel 1.3.
if you are not on cingular you could try and edit the cab files with your carrier info.
give it a try.

It didnt work for me. I'll explain below, but first I want to say I found my own fix. (however, it sucks to switch my fix back and forth)
Woohyuksheng's trick didn't do anything either.
My fix for WiFi usage
Thanks JCB Dalek!
All I needed was to add DNS addresses for my Wifi adapter and to EnableAutoDetect=1
Ignore this , I changed everything I said
I looked on this page http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Hermes_provider_cabs but it does not have the provider info for AT&T (mMode)
I am not sure how to create one but I think it would be something nice to have so if someone knows how this is just a request if it's not too much trouble to make.
Thanks
Here ya go.... Works for ATT as everyone says on this board... SEARCH THE FORUMS
I don't have MediaNET, I have Pre-at&t, Pre-Cingular, AT&T Wireless mMode.
Are you telling me I can use the MediaNET settings?
AFAIK I have to use "proxy" for my AP name and use some other IP's as well to be able to use mMode.
IE this config - http://forums.wireless.att.com/cng/board/message?board.id=cingular&thread.id=38077
I just don't know how to make a .cab to auto set this up every time I hard reset or change my rom.
I would like to bump this up, can anybody out there create a at&t blue mmode settings cab?
You really don't need a cab. Just add a new new modem connection to "my ISP" in the settings-connections tab. Name it whatever (does not matter), choose "cellular line, gprs" from the pull down, then click next. Access point name is "proxy" and click next/finish. Nothing else needs to be done. Don't need "WAP settings", http addresses or anything else. I flash my trinity constantly and this is all I ever do.
so you don't need to put in the 10.250.250.54 connection strings for mmode and mmode mms? it gets annoying re-entering all that data just to have it gone again everytime some new hot rom comes out that i got to have.
i'd write a cab myself if i knew how.
yup like the post above yours says, all you need is to make a new connection that connects to "proxy" and your done for the mMode connection.
For the MMS the only two things you need to know are;
10.250.250.55:8080
http://mmsc.mymmode.com
Then you select the connection you made under connections and your done.
EDIT:
btw, are you in a 3G network area and is your service working?
No problems with 3G, including "H" and I am still using my original blue ATT sim from yrs ago.
Do you mind if I ask where your located?
I am really getting sick of being jerked arround!

I can't get any help or response either!
DH, I'm in DC & live in MD, no problems in either of those areas.
With regard to settings, have you tried another browser? Running WM6 and using IE with the above settings never works but switching to opera solves the connection issues more often than not.
BTW I’m in the DC (Mont. Fred. And Washington county) area as well if it matters.
Hi...I got my mmode data settings to work according to your suggestion...but can't get the mms to download. I've got the old blue sim card...any suggestions for getting the MMS to work along with the data? It connects...retrieves message headers, i know who the messages are from...can even get subjects...but all the messages just hang at 0%??
Im new to the Hermes scene. last night i decided to be a little adventurous and flashed shamanix grass 2.2 to my phone. I am enjoying the speed and memory with this new ROM but i am having one issue: when i try to connect to the internet via ATT 3G internet i keep getting the notification "Cannot Connect: The answering Modem has disconnected. To check your connection settings and change them if needed, tap Settings". I have no idea how to configure these settings to work with ATT's internet, so some help would be greatly appreciated.
welcome to xda-developers... There are several options available to you... you can go to AT&T's website and get the settings from there and add them to your device, or you can use the google link in my signature and search for wpbear's cingular settings cab file... it is a one step setup file that adds the medianet settings for you... It is posted all over this forum and I believe there is mention of it in the wiki...
Good Luck...
I installed the cab and i am now able to access the internet. but when i do connect there is an "H" in the top corner instead of 3G? i dont know if this is a big deal or not?
Looks like your connecting using HSDPA
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=352361
Ok ok, I edited this post because at&t doesn't provide the exact details and there is no thread on here that has all the settings for it.
To get to the connection settings:
Start Menu/Settings/Connections/advanced/select networks/click "new" if media net isn't there or click edit if media net is there/ fill in these settings:
MEdia Net:
General: MEdia Net
Modem:Edit(MEdia Net)/New(Create Media Net):
Name: MEdia Net
Modem:Cellular Line (GPRS , 3G)
Hit next
Access Point name: wap.cingular
Hit next
Leave first three fields empty(if you know what to put put in but it doesn't really matter)
Hit advanced
Select Use server assigned IP address
Select Use IP Header compression
Servers:
Select Use server assigned address
HIT OK
Hit finished
Proxy Settings:
Select This network connects to the Internet
Select This network uses a proxy server. . . .
Proxy Server: wireless.cingular.com
Hit advanced
Hit HTTP
Port:80
Hit ok
Hit Socks
Server: localhost
Port: 1080
Hit ok
AT&T ISP:
General:AT&T ISP
Modem:Edit(Edit My ISP*Change name to AT&T ISP GPRS*/New(Create AT&T ISP GPRS):
Name: AT&T GPRS
Modem:Cellular Line (GPRS , 3G)
Hit next
Hit next
Access Point name: isp.cingular
Hit next
Leave first three fields empty(if you know what to put put in but it doesn't really matter)
Hit Finish
Hit ok
Your done with the internet settings
Select MEdia Net then its totally done and to test it out go to
http://device.home/(It wouldn't normally work with out the proxy settings)
Well, I found them.
It's all over Howardforums.com for years if you'd search there.
I searched and nothing. But this is help full for people on here too.

Am sure a few lazy so and so's like...erm me (sometimes) will find this useful. Maybe put some other settings up on this post for other operators. Perhaps worth a look around via search first as its likely to be something that someones already done. But can't be sure.
best

Why not just use a .cab to do it automatically?
This is the one I've been using:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=67434&d=1201326345
Also, I recently found out I could add MediaNet under My ISP. So now if I have Wifi on, it'll use Wifi. Otherwise it'll use MediaNet.
I had MediaNet seperate so I kept having to change it. Much better this way.

This is something that I've been trying to figure out for a while. How do you add MediaNet under My ISP. I would love to be able to be on the WIFI while at work and then change to ISP when I leave.
thanks,
P

I am also very curious about this.
Settings > Connections > Connections
Advanced tab > Select Networks
With My ISP selected, click "Edit." Then click "New..." at bottom and enter in the MEdiaNet stuff.
Thanks alot for the info. I was having trouble accessing Cingular Video after flashing to Duttys rom.
i was very confused about this and erased all of the connections
why is there Media Net and AT&T ISP GPRS?
I know this is supposed to be for *dummies*
so i guess i am one
But what's the reasoning behind needing two of them?

One is Media Net Access(and the whole internet) and the other one is for tethering.
5 stars!
Thanks, this helped a lot. Now to figure out how to tell my cooked 6.1 ROM that I am on AT&T and not roaming. Seems to be a bug on every 6.1 ROM I have flashed.
WORKS GREAT Thank You!!!

Have you tried searching for the settings in this forum?
It is the only way to learn.
Are there any new settings for at&t? I want to update this.
I was hoping someone would figure out how to manually select a tower in AT&T.

I am not sure if there is anything new but this didn't work for me. I tried this on my Tilt 2 flashed with Sergio76's The Cell ROM v9.5 AT&T (just has the AT&T dialer and nothing else AT&T). I had used a cab that fixed all of the settings to what's in the post except the AT&T ISP which I took care of no problem. However, when I go to Media Mall and search for an app, I'm told there are no results for my handset. I looked at the device ident in the settings and the IMEI is there but the s/n is wiped and I can't edit it. Maybe with a regedit...I dunno. I haven't had the time to try that. It was an idea. There's something that was wiped off the phone that identified my device to AT&T...maybe some sort of hidden proxy or certificate or simply the s/n. I haven't found any Tilt 2 users so far that are able to or even use the Media Mall so I dunno. If anyone else knows something or has figured this out please clue me in. I wouldn't mind being able to get back to the media mall.
Thanks for any help...

install the connection wizard and you are good to go.
and by the way, yes the Questions in the Q&A section.
what the hell is connection wizard and where can i find it? Same issue here.
you look like you need the APN (access point name). To get it you have to call your provider.
for example my APN is "internet" or "vodafoninternet"
after geting it on phone go to "settings" > "cellular" > "edit apn"
good luck
im having the same problem and when i called tmobile about it they said it cant be the apn because i dont have an iphone. please someone help!!
