[Updated]AT&T SETTINGS FOR DUMMYS - Networking

Ok ok, I edited this post because at&t doesn't provide the exact details and there is no thread on here that has all the settings for it.
To get to the connection settings:
Start Menu/Settings/Connections/advanced/select networks/click "new" if media net isn't there or click edit if media net is there/ fill in these settings:
MEdia Net:
General: MEdia Net
Modem:Edit(MEdia Net)/New(Create Media Net):
Name: MEdia Net
Modem:Cellular Line (GPRS , 3G)
Hit next
Access Point name: wap.cingular
Hit next
Leave first three fields empty(if you know what to put put in but it doesn't really matter)
Hit advanced
Select Use server assigned IP address
Select Use IP Header compression
Servers:
Select Use server assigned address
HIT OK
Hit finished
Proxy Settings:
Select This network connects to the Internet
Select This network uses a proxy server. . . .
Proxy Server: wireless.cingular.com
Hit advanced
Hit HTTP
Port:80
Hit ok
Hit Socks
Server: localhost
Port: 1080
Hit ok
AT&T ISP:
General:AT&T ISP
Modem:Edit(Edit My ISP*Change name to AT&T ISP GPRS*/New(Create AT&T ISP GPRS):
Name: AT&T GPRS
Modem:Cellular Line (GPRS , 3G)
Hit next
Hit next
Access Point name: isp.cingular
Hit next
Leave first three fields empty(if you know what to put put in but it doesn't really matter)
Hit Finish
Hit ok
Your done with the internet settings
Select MEdia Net then its totally done and to test it out go to
http://device.home/(It wouldn't normally work with out the proxy settings)

Well, I found them.

It's all over Howardforums.com for years if you'd search there.

I searched and nothing. But this is help full for people on here too.

Am sure a few lazy so and so's like...erm me (sometimes) will find this useful. Maybe put some other settings up on this post for other operators. Perhaps worth a look around via search first as its likely to be something that someones already done. But can't be sure.
best

Why not just use a .cab to do it automatically?
This is the one I've been using:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=67434&d=1201326345

Also, I recently found out I could add MediaNet under My ISP. So now if I have Wifi on, it'll use Wifi. Otherwise it'll use MediaNet.
I had MediaNet seperate so I kept having to change it. Much better this way.

This is something that I've been trying to figure out for a while. How do you add MediaNet under My ISP. I would love to be able to be on the WIFI while at work and then change to ISP when I leave.
thanks,
P

I am also very curious about this.

Settings > Connections > Connections
Advanced tab > Select Networks
With My ISP selected, click "Edit." Then click "New..." at bottom and enter in the MEdiaNet stuff.

Thanks alot for the info. I was having trouble accessing Cingular Video after flashing to Duttys rom.

i was very confused about this and erased all of the connections
why is there Media Net and AT&T ISP GPRS?
I know this is supposed to be for *dummies*
so i guess i am one
But what's the reasoning behind needing two of them?

One is Media Net Access(and the whole internet) and the other one is for tethering.

5 stars!
Thanks, this helped a lot. Now to figure out how to tell my cooked 6.1 ROM that I am on AT&T and not roaming. Seems to be a bug on every 6.1 ROM I have flashed.

WORKS GREAT Thank You!!!

Have you tried searching for the settings in this forum?
It is the only way to learn.

Are there any new settings for at&t? I want to update this.

I was hoping someone would figure out how to manually select a tower in AT&T.

I am not sure if there is anything new but this didn't work for me. I tried this on my Tilt 2 flashed with Sergio76's The Cell ROM v9.5 AT&T (just has the AT&T dialer and nothing else AT&T). I had used a cab that fixed all of the settings to what's in the post except the AT&T ISP which I took care of no problem. However, when I go to Media Mall and search for an app, I'm told there are no results for my handset. I looked at the device ident in the settings and the IMEI is there but the s/n is wiped and I can't edit it. Maybe with a regedit...I dunno. I haven't had the time to try that. It was an idea. There's something that was wiped off the phone that identified my device to AT&T...maybe some sort of hidden proxy or certificate or simply the s/n. I haven't found any Tilt 2 users so far that are able to or even use the Media Mall so I dunno. If anyone else knows something or has figured this out please clue me in. I wouldn't mind being able to get back to the media mall.
Thanks for any help...

Vodafone + blackberry config

Wonder if anyone can help.
Got my blackberry XDA II on vodafone sim working - ie delivering emails - great.
One problem though I can't seem to access the internet any more - anyone know what the issue is?
Vodafone say it's not a provisioning issue - which I guess leaves a Connection setting issue - tried loads of different variations but with no sucess.
Any ideas? Anyone else got this config working?
I am using the 1.72.181 ROM with the Balckberry client on an XDA 2 in the US with t-mobile. Assume for the title of your message that your are also on this ROM. If that is the case you have to "stop" the blackberry client and then use the Voda internet connection APN to get to get to the internet. Are you doing that or trying to go to the internet while the blackberry client is connected?
Yes - using that ROM. When you say stop the BB service does that mean switch it off in Settings...? Or just get the XDA to connect to a different network?
To be clear could you tell me how many and which Connections you have in your My Connections?
I've got 2 - one with the original Vodafone APN settings and another with the blackberry.net settings + XDA is set to autopick...
Yes, I turn off the Blackberry Client by double clicking on the Today screen icon. This brings up settings and I select stop. Can restart again via "settings" menu...
I believe the crux of the problem is that the Blackberry has its own APN and it is not possible to add the regular data APN on the same account (at least not with TMO in the USA) So you have to access the internet via the Blackberry APN. I use: wap.blackberry.net in the USA. Just recently the internet connection stopped working, and now I have to use a proxy server to get to the intenert via the Blackberry APN. I am using: 216.155.165.50 There may be a similar need when using the Vodaphone Blackberry APN in the UK...
Hope this helps

Chris
Help with using the pc software for the blackberry
Hi guys
I have update my rom to have the Blackberry on it and also downloaded the pc software to config it.
But when i run the pc software to setup the Blackberry it keeps saying make sure it is in the cradle or that the software is on to which the answer is yes to both.
Has anyone any clues or hints on how to get them to talk
Thanks
Thanks for your help Chris - tried that unfortunately not working from UK... One question - did you set up your connection as your work connection? It would really help me if you could take the time to just send me your exact connections settings..
Anyone else know what the proxy address might be for the Vodafone in the UK?
Hi "Mr Vulture"
Yes, I am using the "My Work Connection" side. I think I am right in saying that you have to use that side to use a proxy server. So as far as connections go its as follows:
I set this connection up under "My Work Network" as:
Modem: Cellular GPRS
APN: wap.voicestream.com
User Name:
Password:
Then, under "Edit My Proxy Settings/Proxy Settings" I have both boxes checked ("This network connects to the internet" and "This network uses a proxy server"
Then Under "proxy server" I have: 216.155.165.50.
Then hit the "Advanced" button. This take you to the server settings. Here I have:
HTTP: 216.155.165.50 Port: 8080
WAP: 216.155.165.50 Port: 8080
Secure WAP:
Socks: 216.155.165.50 Port: 1080
Type: Socks 4
Finally, under "settings/connections/advanced" g to "select networks" and under "Programs that auotomatically connect to internet...." select " My Work Network"
Also check out this thread for more info on this topic.

Hope that helps
Let me know how you get on
Regards
Chris
Chris - thanks very much for your help. I tried all your settings and still nothing....so thought I'd try helpdesk *again*
And it seems that despite assuring me twice previously that I had both the Blackberry and GPRS provisioning - seems like they got it wrong - grrrr. One swish of their magic wand and it's all working.
Thanks again for all you help - it got me to the point where I knew *I* wasn't doing something wrong.
John.
Hi John
Glad you have got it working. Seems Voda have gone one better than TMo US, whi informed me that it was impossible to provision the regular Data Plan APN AND the Blackberry Data APN on the same account/number. Maybe I should try my luck with TMo customer care again...!
Regards
Chris
Know what - think they told me that too - but I'm guessing its a commercial policy rather than a technical issue...and seems I got someone who didn't know the policy - what a shame
Have a good weekend and thanks again for the help.
John.
Hi John
I think you are probably right. I wnet into a Cingular store last night, and they said they could do it, no problem. I'll give TMo another go
Regards
Chris
PS Have you figured out how to get some additional kind of audible alert for when a Blackberry message comes in? All I get right now is a single, very quiet "beep". Blackberry does not show up under "Sounds and Notifications", so I have not been able to figure out if there is another way to. Any thoughts..?
Folks, i have mails push to my xda II but no sound? I cant seem to find anywhere where i can set a sound when mails are being push to my set? Any clue?
Same question asked here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=13839
ok.. i replaced the default.wav with another sound file.. worked..
Hi Tripartite
That sounds like a reasonable fix. A couple of questions:
1. What folder is the default.wav file in?
2. Do you have to rename the new wave file you want to use as "default.wav" for it to work?
Many Thanks
Chris
the file is in My Device/Windows folder.
Yes, got to overwrite it..
Great! Many Thanks. Also, is there a way of controlling the volume of this sound? Would that be a function of how high you have the "system" sound set or something else?

Using T-Mobile USA GPRS with XDA Exec

Hello everyone, i'm newbie here. I just bought a xda exec and i want to sign up for T-Mobile Total Internet in USA for GPRS service. I wonder if anybody has done it and how was it? How fast is it because as I contacted their customer service, they said they don't know anything about xda exec settings.
Thanks advanced for any reply.
Simple..
1) Make sure its unlocked
2) Get SIM card from T-mobile and insert
3) For intetnet go to Settings and then Connections
4) Under "My ISP" click "Add a new modem connection"
5) Name connection T-mobile
6) In the type of connection detail use "Cellular Line (GPRS, 3G)"
7) Access point will be - wap.voicestream.com
8) Click next, then click finish. Do not need the set any advanced settings or Passwords or login.
Just posted this on my MDA PRO with the newest DOPOD ROM
Connections are good, but othside the metro areas I havent had much luck WiFi works great.
7) Access point will be - wap.voicestream.com
----> T-Mobile offers 2 different data plans: if you go with the cheap one, named T-Mobile Web, you get access to the wap sites only, and you will be using the wap.voicestream.com access point.
If you go with the second plan (a lot more expensive) named Total Internet, you will hit the internet, and you will use the access point internet2.voicestream.com
Most people can hit most of the www by simply subscribing to the T-Mobile Web (the wap plan) and then configure the following proxy in the connection settings:
HTTP proxy: getmorespeed.voicestream.com port 8080.
Interesting.. since I have teh big plan.. will see how the other settigns work for me.
thanks,
Thanks for the reply, I think im gonna go with the big one since I use the T-Mobile Hot Spot too. Thanks so much though...
I tried the settings as you describe but my browser (IE) still returns an error stating that the page could not be located. I've been playing around with my Exec for 2 days now since it arrived and have yet to get this to work. Thanks in advance because I know you guys have alot of experience.
Dre
Thanks for all the information, my exeec is still on his way so I haven't really tried anything out yet. But one more question if someone could help, will I be able to access to free email services such as hotmail, yahoo mail? because my understanding is if you use the cheap plan one, you can browsing the websites but not be able to send/receive emails. Thanks,
hey
I use this already just use wap.voicestream.com. It doesn't matter the diffrences are one you have a public address and the other you have a private address. Everything works through wap.voicestream.com. Don't put the proxy settings in just the gprs

Wizard Faster than Hermes !!

For a still unknown reason to me, my Wizard has faster data connection than my Hermes, the connection speeds (as per www.dslreports.com/mspeed for the Wizard ranges from 86 to 101 kbit/sec, while the top speed for Hermes is
6 kbit/sec With same internet settings
I´ve tried different things found in diverse threads (Increasing the TCP Window Size, which by the way reducing it gives "better" results, Change the DNS addresses as per OpenDNS, the tweak to make PIE as IE6,etc. etc.)
See signature, any idea?
Thank you!
yep. and your 10,000$ car is faster than a porche! haha
Hard to believe it...
Good analogy! Saddly for me is true, perhaps the Porsche is great for highways (G3) and doesn´t like the dusty roads (Edge).....
For me also. I found the 8125 loaded pages faster in PIE than did my 8525
Lucky you!

The only page I´m able (and not allways) to open with the 8525 is www.dslreports.com/mspeed and allways in the WAP mode, http mode is impossible as well any e-mail. How is your e-mail connection?
that scares me now, I'm about to throw my Wizard for Hermes!!! Can this be confirmed? I want to know, since I have already ordered my Hermes and not found a buyer for the wizard . Besides all has nicely been messed/ juiced up for the wizard.
It is well confirmed!

If you look at my postings you´ll find that the first post on the subject was placed back in December last year, I´ve tried a lot of things, have read in a lot forums (not only xda-devs) and NOBODY was able to give me a hand (check my signature, it´s been that way for weeks and I haven´t received a single comment from experts in this site . I´m almost sure that the problem is a combination of conditions on both the 8525´s and my network. If you know somebody subscribed to your network and owns a 8525 check twice that the internet connection is as fast as it´s supoused to be.

wiazzard is fater for sure but thats beause we got super chagers

All time based so roll 2 or even better sell your wizzard for more thatn you have to pay for the hermes.
Don't foorget 9g is worthless on a device that can not handle it.
Make sure you tell att that you are goingto be in the 3g coverage zone so they give you the 2100 version
Not funny...

I had the 8525 junked for several months waiting and for a WM6 ROM to solve the problem, I´ve tried most of them and the result is the same: I can´t get my GMail, I can´t get MSN and I can´t get connection to intenet pages other than Google main page and some wap sites tagged as wsp://
One senior member and cook of this forum offered payed help but he suddenly dissappeared !!!
I guess I´ll stick to my Wizard until a new reliable device be launched to the market....

First off: Thanks a lot for your interest in this problem and to have taken the time to write all this step by step guide, I really appreciate it.
Now here´s the funny thing: I have all connection settings exactly the same in my Wizard and in my Hermes, even more: Sometimes I use a cab to set my connections up.
My telco is Telefonica Movistar Mexico
The settings I have under a "Celular Line (GPRS)" modem :
Connection Name: Internet GPRS
APN: internet.movistar.mx
User name: movistar
Pasword: movistar
Domain: blank
Advanced: TCP/IP: "Use server assigned IP address" checked, all other boxes not checked.
Advanced: Servers: "Use server assigned addresses"

Secure WAP Proxy: 10.2.20.1:9203

I´ve check over and over the configuration as the user interface allows it and ALL parameters are correct, the problem is hiden somewhere within the registry or the OS....!
Funny, I get speeds on my Hermes of OVER 1000 ...

Getting my full internet back

Hello, i tried searching and found a few threads similar to mine, but not exact so im hoping you can help. I did the firmware upgrade for ATT and now when i use internet explorer everything gets compressed (images and what not) I hate it =(. It says everything is set to go through media net so im guessing that is what is screwing it up. I tried setting it to My ISP but i cant get any www, it does work for POP3 and tethering with my laptop, however. So whats my best bet? Will another web browser work or do i need to set it up diffrent? I tried looking around in IE to disable the proxy but couldnt find anything. Thanks so much for any help!
I have the 39.99 pda unlimited plan on the att 8525
Try doing the following: Click on the Start menu -> Settings -> Connections Tab -> Connections -> Under the Tasks, click on "Set up my proxy server"
As to what it should say in there, that I can't really help you with since I've got the ATT Blue sim card for my line. However, you should be able to find the Cingular settings (along with a cab file to place those settings on your phone) in one of the threads in here.
Good Luck hamwbone.
well i go there and there is nothing in the box. the only thing that is checked is *this network connects to the internet* medianet is set to wap.cingular and my isp is set to isp.cingular

Sick And Tired Of Bad Connection Settings!

SOMEONE PLEASE TELL ME WHAT THE HELL I'M DOING WRONG!
This always happens to me! To be quite honest, I wish I understood Cingular/AT&T or even more so the WINDOWS MOBILE 5 AND 6 CONNECTION SETTINGS and HOW TO CONFIGURE THEM PROPERLY! I just don't get it! I'm a well educated and very experianced Microsoft Network and Systems administrator for a LIVING!!! and this is like STUPID for me!
someone please help me out.
I'm in New York on AT&T's network with the 8525. I am an accomplished ROM Flasher and I am on Schap's WM6 v4.30
As usual, as soon as I flash, internet explorer works and i go to configure my pop gmail and it successfully get the gmail settings. go to connect for the first time to download my mail and it fails.... i tried to installed the cab called Cingular WAP MEdiaNet MMS Settings v2 and that doesnt work. it just adds the MEdia Net as an optional connection. I used to use the wpbear thing to get the proxy remove and restore things.. still nothing! so now i have a freaking interview tomorrow and its 1 am and im still ....ing around with the damn thing and i dont have internet, mail or connectivity to anything!!!
theres ISP, WORK and MEDIA NET... what the hell are any of these things?! i need a stupid tutorial to explain the most basic freaking thing on a pocket pc phone!
frustrated is NOT the word... ready to throw the phone out my 2nd story window as far as i can is more like it!
Schap's.. great job on the new rom.. i love it as i have loved all the others.. but this stupid at&t settings is KILLING ME!
*update* its 1:30 and im still futzing with this thing.. I used the REMOVE PROGRAMS icon and uninstalled the wpbear and cingular wap settings. i got INTERNET EXPLORER BACK but i cant get mail to work. it says Error Syncronizing. and then the typical message "Cannot connect with current connection settings. To change your connection settings, tap Settings."
In Network Management i have programs that automatically connect to the internet should connect using: MEdia Net
Programs that automatically connecto to a private network should connect using: My ISP
I only have this problem with my gmail accounts. YES i have them set to pop online. hotmail and windows live works fine.
had the same problem
What i had to do was goto connections >> connections
Advanced tab
Selecy Networks
Click the drop down, Media net should be fine
IE if you goto edit it says wap.cingular
Now hit that drop down and goto my isp
And you have to change the APN to wap.cingular
then on the username/pass screen
username: [email protected]
password: CINGULAR1
domain leave blank and hit OK
and VIOLA!!!
You are back in business
Its actually in ATT's forum help somwhere
EDIT: heres the link https://cingular.atgnow.com/cng/tutorials/KB71267.html
same problem
the way that windows mobile organizes connections is completely ilogical -- to me anyways
i am baffled..gmail will not work, same error, been going on for months now, ever since i got my device
skype will not work, same error, "cannot connect with current settings"
everything else works..
WTF IS "My ISP" and "The Internet" and "Media Net"
why are there 3 connections for the same exact god damn thing?
Should i just delete everything except for Media net?
Then maybe it will be FORCED to use it..god
I have tried doing these steps from the above post but nothing has changed
==============
update: skype now works, gmail still will not work
update2: Gmail works when wifi is on, still not over 3g
What i would really like to know is why the connections are organized this way, so maybe that will lead me to the root of the problem itself
