I always loose text messages that I have received or sent from the current day when I perform a soft reset or remove the battery (for less than 30 sec.) This is a really annoying problem, and I would like to get it fixed.
Is their anything that I can do to fix it?
Thanks.
i get this every once and a while if my phone for some reason jams up after sending a message and i have to reset.. not to that extent though. you could try a hard reset or a new rom, other than that i'm not sure.

Soft Resets : What is lost on settings ?
Does one loose any settings when a soft reset is done ?
Battery or light off, registry, third party software settings ???
u would not lose any settings unless u soft reset just after changing something or receiving a text message of which the later would disappear when u soft reset.
To say it in clear words : Nothing get lost when you soft reset. But you should wait a bit when you change data (windows needs a moment to write it from ram into rom).
Data gets only lost if you do a hard reset
@lutzs, if your Universal freezes or crashes and you do a soft reset you may lose data - I have n the past when my Exec froze after email downloads over UMTS
uh i'm sorry i couldn't see this aspect, 'cause i have no Universal and i'm not downloading mail, and my Wizard haven't freeze or crashed yet
First off, I haven't found this on a search
Surely I and my wife cannot be the only people to suffer the loss of text messages received but not opened if the battery goes flat?
To confirm, we get an SMS (or an email) and without opening it reset the machine (say if it locks up) or the battery goes flat and on charging it resets automatically, when reloaded the SMS (or email has gone).
Emails are fine, still on the server so downloadable again; SMS gone forever!
Known 'feature', problem solved years ago or I am a numpty?
I have encountered the same problem several times with different ROMs(WM5, WM6). Can this get fixed?

I don't think this is a ROM issue, more a device bug.
That said, anything that can force the device to save all messages received, not just those that have been read would be most welcome!
I think it has been explained somewhere by someone and also maybe me.
Basically, to ensure that your messages (read or unread) is saved, at least press the power button (if the set is not hang) to bring it to power off, afterwhich you can do anything including reset.
If already hang after received message before you can press power button, too bad, it will never come back.
It is not really a bug, there is a technical explaination behind this, but too long to explain.
The technical explanation is simply: "Caching!".
The system caches data in RAM and writes it down to Flash every once in a while - or upon power off.
So if you reset while the data (i.e. your unread SMS in this case) is still in RAM, it will be lost.

So, is there a way to force the device to write down to flash whenever it receives a message?
Qmail used to save emails when they were received (I used it before I overcame the issues from using pop Gmail), but I would rather force messaging to save messages than use a third party message reader.

Right on ! ! !
Writing to Flash is part of the Pesistent Memory concept in WM5, in which when it is restore upon reset from the Flash and not the RAM (which is cleared upon reset). While WM2003SE is not the case.

Very simple! Just wait for about 10 sec upon receiving your SMS before resetting
What seems to have worked for me when it happens, is taking the battery out instead of soft resetting. The message is saved when I reinsert the battery and power up.
Not sure how safe that is though...

Quite! (Well actually not at all)
Just that doesn't work if you leave your XDA and the battery goes flat before you read it or the whole thing locks up and you need to reset....

Worth a try I suppose, thanks.
I am having problem with my jasjar. About half the time when the device is soft reset it comes up with a "no service" icon even in an area with active service. I cannot make a call at that time. Even I cannot put the phone into `flight mode' or turn off the phone connection using the wireless manager. Further soft reset works sometimes but not always.
Looks like a software bug as if I do a hard reset. It comes up fine. Could you please let me any fix available for this issue. I am fed up of hard resetting.
Thanks in anticipation
Arun
Try flashing original shipped rom.
The phone hung a couple of days ago (nothing new) so i pulled the battery as I didn't have a pointy thing for the reset button. When it rebooted it came up with a red scroll bar on the windows splash screen. It then asked me what network I was on and had to be set up as if it was freshly hard reset! It had lost all emails and settings, but kept all the texts and programs, although it kept asking me if I wanted to run various component of these programs in case they were malicious!
Has anyone else experinced this?
I can't believe how unstable it is, even before this happenned I was soft reseting it daily when it hangs, usually trying to wake the phone after a text or missed call, or on the music player screen. Honestly, when it works I love it but more often than not I want to throw it at a brick wall!
Come on HTC, give us a ROM we can use day to day, this is a joke!
Need Help ASAP!, I cant even slide to unlock when it first starts.
It has always been crashing, and i have disabled my emails, and hardly have any programs and still. After all the patches and updates no change!
tried soft reset, took the battery out 1000 times.
this has happened to me for the second time in 3 months.
I did a hard reset last time to fix the problem, but i have to much valuable info, new contacts, notes, sms etc....
Is there anything else i can do to fix this problem, without a hard reset!
I cant take this phone anymore, it is horrible!
unlikely that you can fix it without hard reseting in one form or another.
rather than worrying about fixing it, first look into backing up your stuff, and then start looking at the freezing problem.

I think its the rom problem... next time you may choose a rom carefully... How to select a rom is a tough work... You could try to backup your files first...
Do the hardware buttons work?
My phone froze but it was a broken touch screen, fixed under warranty.

I am sorry that you are having the problem.
But it is not the phone. That I can be sure.
If you have modified the phone in anyway, some where along the line, something has gone wrong.
I used to have to hard reset many times when i got my first Windows Mobile Phone ( 2nd Generation HTC Tilt ).
I then went to the HTC Pure, and now I have the HD2.
It is a learning curve when you start adding programs and tweaks.
It takes time, trial, and more time.
I can tell you that I had to hard reset the HD2 just once.
I have over 200 tweaks, registry changes, programs, etc. The phone works great.
I now have learned to back up the system and registry just in case.
And pick and choose programs carefully. Buy only the ones you need.
Dont give up on the phone. Good luck.

Is the phone stock, or have you made modifications? When on and connected with usb to a pc, does active sync start on the pc? you may have to hard reboot: read: always make backups to the sd card (PIM backup, sktools, sprite backup, etc.) of critical data as soon as it hits your phone. If you are miserable with what you have on your phone, change it. I fell in love (from hate) with my HD2 when MIRI_DINIK V 17.0 WWE gave it a new soul. good luck.
