Soft Resets : What is lost on settings ?
Does one loose any settings when a soft reset is done ?
Battery or light off, registry, third party software settings ???
u would not lose any settings unless u soft reset just after changing something or receiving a text message of which the later would disappear when u soft reset.
To say it in clear words : Nothing get lost when you soft reset. But you should wait a bit when you change data (windows needs a moment to write it from ram into rom).
Data gets only lost if you do a hard reset
@lutzs, if your Universal freezes or crashes and you do a soft reset you may lose data - I have n the past when my Exec froze after email downloads over UMTS
uh i'm sorry i couldn't see this aspect, 'cause i have no Universal and i'm not downloading mail, and my Wizard haven't freeze or crashed yet

I have just gotten an o2 Wizard and find that the Phone application is very slow to load (if it does at all) soft reset after soft reset it won't work . I've reflashed with "MrClean_RUU_WIZARD_224a_AKU23_WWE.zip" but it's still slow. Has anyone seen this before / any advice....?
P.S Other apps are quick to load no probs.....
Thanks
Re-flashing it seems to have worked (used O2 - "Xda_Minis_Upgrade_v2.21.4.101.exe" from the ftp).....
All settings menus are very slow in first-time load after every soft reset. Latter usage is OK.
Hi there,
I have an MDA Vario on the T-Mobile network and have noticed recently that some of the words i input into the dictionary dissappears after i switch the phone off and back on.
Does anyone know why this is happening and how i can cure it?
Thanks for any help.
Depends on how often your restarting (soft reset) the phone. Windows Mobile 5 is persistent yes, but not 100% persistent. They don't write every single change to the ROM every second as the ROM has a limited life. They instead write stuff to the ROM at specific intervals or when the device is sleeping.
So if your restarting or powering off often then your most likely doing it before the ROM write.
Well, so far, everytime my i soft reset the phone, i lose the custom words in my dictionary, its dam strange.
I soft reset on average about once a week...!
Try this:
http://mobile-sg.com/software/?p=DictMgr&platform=ppc
Its a collection of dictionary editing tools.
After editing (add, delete or amend) it asks if you want to overwrite then to soft reset. In my experience answer yes to the first one and no to the second. Then perform the soft reset yourself. You'll see if you use it - its a fairly easy title.
I also use this to soft reset or turn off the PPC = http://ppcsoft.narod.ru/english
Matt
I always loose text messages that I have received or sent from the current day when I perform a soft reset or remove the battery (for less than 30 sec.) This is a really annoying problem, and I would like to get it fixed.
Is their anything that I can do to fix it?
Thanks.
i get this every once and a while if my phone for some reason jams up after sending a message and i have to reset.. not to that extent though. you could try a hard reset or a new rom, other than that i'm not sure.
I am having problem with my jasjar. About half the time when the device is soft reset it comes up with a "no service" icon even in an area with active service. I cannot make a call at that time. Even I cannot put the phone into `flight mode' or turn off the phone connection using the wireless manager. Further soft reset works sometimes but not always.
Looks like a software bug as if I do a hard reset. It comes up fine. Could you please let me any fix available for this issue. I am fed up of hard resetting.
Thanks in anticipation
Arun
Try flashing original shipped rom.
My phone sound settings does not work keep getting setting has turned off when I try to gain access to sound setting. The phone has stopped ringing when I receive calls, vibration works , also the phone will not shut down unless battery drains. Any help?
I think the easiest way to solve your problems would be to perform a factory reset and get everything back to default.
IMPORTANT! Before you start you should back up anything important (SMS's, pictures, files etc.), since a factory reset will remove everything that has been put on the phone after you started it the first time.
So, when you are sure that everything is backed up AND that the device has plenty of power (personally I recommend 75% or more), you can continue and perform the reset:
Go to: Settings - General.
Then under Personal tap: Backup & Reset - Factory data reset - Reset phone - Erase everything.
Confirm and start by tapping OK.
The phone will now start the reset. When it's done you can set it up and start using it.
