hi all. i have an xda exec which is batterd and heavily used so i bought new spv silver case for it and fitted the yesterday. all went well untill i tried the phone today. the screen wont turn off when lid closed and it doesnt automaticaly roatate. Also when i use the camera everything is upside down and it wont save any pictures, it just say not enough memory but i have an empty 1gig in there.
Has anybody come across this before? cheers

Craig - some cases contain magnets that screw around with the auto-rotation.
Is your effect now permanent? If so, use a different case, backup, then hardreset to revert to factory settings.

I have an O2 XDA2. I just took the phone out of my jacket pocket to find that it wanted me to calibrate the screen. It went on to take me through the whole set-up wizard and then I found that all my data and installed programs had been lost
I'm guessing the phone decided it wanted to reset itself!
Does anyone have any idea why this might have happened so I can avoid it happening again?
The phone had plenty of battery power (approx 80%). It had plenty of space space (approx 28MB). I hadn't recently installed any software although I did uninstall Pocket Money on the weekend. I also created an IMAP email account then but I've had no problem with the phone since then until now.
Any ideas? Thanks very much
would prob be a good idear if you stated the rom version you are using
Sorry, It's 1.60.00 WWE
I have never upgraded it as I haven't the first idea how or what the implications are.
the latest officail rom is 1.72
if you get that from their site you will not get warrenty issues
when i used 1.66 i had lockups from time to time
after i got 1.72
i havent had any issues
I don't really feel comfortable upgrading it as I haven't the first idea what to do.
How do you normally reset a device? Is it something I could have done by accident?
there is a little hole in the buttom of it in the right corner if you press that using something thin like the stylus while you press the on button
then it hardreset
but there is software which let you do it as well
the upgrade is really pretty simpel
Thanks very much. I know the reset button, I use that every now and again. There's no way I could have pressed it and the on switch by accident given tha the phone was in an otherwise empty jacket pocket.
Oh well, I guess my phone just had enough of life. I'll look into upgrading the ROM when I feel a bit more adventurous
Fabulous...My phone has again decided to reset itself out of the blue.
I have no idea why it does this but it's a pain in the rear. Has anyone seen this before? Does anyone know if there's anything I can do to prevent it? (other than upgrading to the Universal when it comes out!!)
And it's happened again...seems to happen approximately once a month.
Has this spontaneous hard reset issue not happened to anyone else?
I suffered this audacious curse only to find that by removing my 1gig sd card remedied the problem.
I'm wondering if the sd card draws too much power/resources or whether I have a dodgy sd card.
Either way, without it I'm flying. I pop it in when I need to use my TomTom and as it's on charge in the car cradle it doesnt matter about resource usage etc.
So, try removing your sd card and see what goes
SD cards seem to be causing all sorts of problems. I kept getting the eternal spinning timer when copy, paste or deleting files, if the card was inserted. Did a soft reset today to be met with the calibration screen as from a hard reset. Such fun isnt it.
Hi Guys
Thanks very much for your comments. Unfortunately it isn't the cause as I have had my SD slot empty for a while now (my SD card is in my new car radio/MP3 player )
I'm starting to think that after 15 months my XDA2 has decided that it's had enough of the world. My colleague told me that it's seeking revenge as it's heard me salivate over its younger sister (the Universal).
As you say having the phone hard reset itself is a whole lot of fun!
I have the Sprite Back Up programe so all is not lost - it creates an exe file on the SD card that you locate and select thus restoring everything just how it was before it was lost
one can also just have activesync do an inc backup at each sync
and if the device hardresets one can connect as guest and restore the backup from ones normal profile
The nice thing about the Sprite software is that you can restore when you're out and about unlike the active sync method which means you need your pc close by
Hi, I just got my T-Mobile Vario II couple weeks ago. About once a day on average, when taking it out of its case, it 'freezes'. I just try to unlock the buttons, and then nothing happens, screen literally freezes. I only can soft boot it to have it operational again. Should I change it to a new one at T-Mobile, or anything else I could do? (I still dont have a memory card installed, storage left 17 MB and Program 30MB). Ideas?
I already swapped it once, as the first one's keyboard's backlights didnt work. Not very keen to change, as a new device could have other probs... or what you think? :?:
have you got any today plugins running or any programs running?
Hello,
I read something about this prob on a different forum. It seems that the magnet in the case can cause this.
The solution they suggested there was to put the TyTN the other way round in the case (screen pointing towards the belt) or not to use the key-lock (I find it pretty useless anyway).
I used the case a couple of times and I realized when pulling the device out and switching it on immediately, the screen changes from landscape to portrait so my guess is that there is somekind of magnetic switch in the TyTN telling the device if the keyboard is out or not and causing this problem.
Kind regards,
Uli
interesting
Thanks will try that today!
the freezing has happened with and without software left running - but admit many times left the Iexplorer on.
will give a try with the case and let you know!
True
Hold the Tytn back centered in the mid to one of the magnets in the case - and it will switch to landscape mode magically!
freeze...
the magnets definetly affect the vario II. I'm trying to find another case now! no idea if the magnets could cause any damage in the long run...
my vario still freezes about a once a day bit less as I don't use the keylock anymore and always try to stop any running programs. swapping it to another phone at tmobile is option - but can always get a phone with other problem. what you think?
Oh dear, that's a bit of a problem... Just tried it on my new Vario 2 and yep, there it goes... Wheee...
If the devices had hard drives in, I'd be more worried - might be best not to have your MicroSD card slot too close to the magnets if you have a card in it, you might accidentally corrupt some data :X
Hi there,
I got a T-mobile MDA for almost a year now. The housing of it is actually a terrible seeing, therefore i had ordered on ebay a housing and got i today by mail. Happily i opened the mda, using the manual of this website and removed everything step by step and installed the new housing.
But here it comes. Everything is installed, turn on the sing louds of a soft reset and the screen doesn't displayes anything. I tought it was my mistake, that i might forgot or had not plugged something the right way in the MDA. Once again i opened it and checked everything, but without succes. The screen does only shows some strange lines with no light, it's verry strange. Can someone help me? It has to be fixed as soon as possible! Thnx in advance
no replies huh? what did it turn out to be if u fixed it, i dont thinkill get replies too..
It's either you have the wrong type of screen or some loose connection.
Hi everyone,
Since yesterday my touch hd stopped working! It seems like the touchschreen is not working anymore. Only the power en volume buttons are working.
Because of this I tried to do a hard reset which resulted in the same problem. Now I'm stucked on the align screen. If I press really really hard I can align 3 corners of the 4 on the screen, so I can't get further to the next step.
Im currently in a hot hot Australia which might be the reason for all this. If you have a good look at the screen while turning it horizontally, you can see that one part has weird colours/reflection.
So what do you think? Can I buy a new screen and solve the problem or is there more going on?
Can I have warranty? The device is not having the stock rom on it. Can I maybe control the device and install the stock rom on it using a program on a pc or so?
Aaaaaaany help would be so appreciated! Im using the device as tomtom GPS as well, which I really need to travel to Melbourne next week. So I kinda need your help/advise cause I'm a bit in a hurry....
Thank you very much anyways!
Pauwel
Hi
Do a search on "newton rings" which I believe is the weird color / reflection problem.
As an aside when I knew I was getting a replacement I saw a post that suggested putting the phone in freezer for 10 minutes or so !
I did then wrapped it in tissue to absorb the condensation and it worked !!

Plenty of threads on Newton rings if you search the General Forum like this one.
If its not Newton ring I you want to get past alignment, one method is to skip or bypass the alignment process altogether. Some Chefs do this already, namely Dutty, to among other things speed up the set up process.
How to do it: there are a couple of ways you can find in the forum, however, one way is to create a blank text file called, welcome.not, instead of welcome.not.txt, and place it in the root of your storage card. Next, flash a new rom or hard reset and you're done. It's up to you whether you leave your SD in during flash. I do not. If you do not, after the rom flash, stick your SD in and hard reset. If all goes to plan, the "welcome" phase will be bypassed, any you will not be prompted to align the screen or set the date, location, time etc. If for some reason it does not, go into the root of your SD and manually with your stylus or via activesync on your desktop create a new blank file in there and name it welcome.not. That actually worked for me. If it works then leave it in the root of your SD and it will allow the bypass with each new flash or hard reset.
The screen coordinates should load automatically after the bypass. If for any reason you need them, here are the Blackstone alignment coordinates from HKLM/Hardware/Devicemap/Touch/ Calibrationdata:
511,542 183,881 183,198 834,197 883,880.
Had that problem and you need a new ditigiter. Only problem is you will most likely break the screen replacing the ditigizer. So, the only fix is a new LCD screen and digitizer. You can get them from ebay. I did it and it was pretty easy, just take your time and get the videos and manuals people have posted on here. Good luck.
In our office we aquired in our IT disposal box a Palm Treo T850, which my boss and also team leader looked at and just went 'oh its broken'.
Me being me did some investigating but havent come to a massive conclusion as to the problem with the device, other than perhaps some sort of either software fault or something which is hardware that says the phone is totally dead.
Basically when you put the battery in it boots to a white screen (initially it makes some sounds then it went mad pinging) and I have charged up the unit.
I have tried soft reset with the reset button and I have also tried various hard reset methods I have found on the internet. I however still have a white screen!
initially the phone did have some data left on it, but now its clearly hard reset as the data and anything that was on the phone has gone.
Also when I plugged it into my PC it came up with a setup program to sync the palm and my PC which it didnt do before.
I have had the unit to pieces but it seems fine inside, so I am a bit baffeled!
Can anyone suggested what the problem might be or how to fix it?
Its not important but I thought well why throw away an alright phone if it can be fixed
Cheers
In case it is the GSM version you have to make sure there is a SIM card in the TP. Otherwise it won't boot. Hope this helps..

It does boot without sim card alright.
