The HTC TyTn (Orange M3100) will have a 400 Mhz processor. Does this mean that the whole system will operate considerably faster than the Wizard / Prophet, or is the 200 Mhz leap not as massive as it appears (different processor manufacturers)?
I love my Wizard, but it is quite sluggish sometimes and that really is my only criticism. (When sliding the keyboard, the rotating of the screen is really lethargic.)
Cheers
It all depends. I'm not sure on the processor in the Hermes, but it will make a major difference if its a dual-core design like the Wizard running at 400 Mhz versus a single core.
I trust HTC, and its definitely a worthy successor to the Wizard.
Hopefully there will be a way to overclock the Hermes, if it does run a bit poky.
Got my Tytn!
Hey Folks!
On the last weekend, I 've got my Tytn! In Germany it's the O2 Trion. My father has the Wizard and I have to say, that the Tytn is up to 4 times faster then the Wizard.
The 400 Mhz Samsung Prozessor is the fastest Prozessor I 've ever seen on a Windows Mobile Phone!
Bring on the M3100
Well, come on Orange, launch the M3100!!
the M3100 seems to be a different beast http://www.expansys.com/product.asp?code=138474&tab=1
different keyboard
processor
miniSD??
AND PALM OS

Do you have a feel for battery life yet?
Are you using Direct push?
Well, expansys is wrong again....

Well, it's kind a hard to explain. Because you know, the first days you will use the device a little bit more as usual. The Battery has lost 45 % of Power after 3 days with factory charge. And I don't have a Storagecard yet. I don't use Direct Push, but use the WLAN module with full power. I also took some pictures with 2 MPixel. HTC has still not the quality of Nokia Phone Cameras but a Macro function integrated.
I only have one Problem so far. The Tytn loses the display calibration 3 times a day.
expansys has a completely different unit! I like the unwired picture best cosmetics of the Tytn so far me thinks....[/quote]
xdaer/Facedanzr: I was at the Modaco meeting. I have to say, the Hermes (or "Herpes" as it was lovingly called by everyone) is a great device - better build quality and feels more compact then the Wizard, but great spec, nice keyboard, wifi etc, 3G - squeeze in a VGA screen and it'd be pretty much perfect. It felt "adequately" fast to me; faster then the Wizard certainly, but I use a Mio A701 and Magician, so I'm used to fast.
A nice device, it'll do very well I'm sure.
However, I have to say, the Samsung was an amazing beast

@MrMarioG:
That's good news on the battery... sounds like it may be close to if not better than a wizard. Keep us posted plz as you get a better feel for it!
That's bad news about your digitizer tho.... hopefully its just a bad TyTN and not an indication of some inherent pblm...

MrMarioG, post some pictures of your O2 Trion! It looks lovely in the factory shots, I would love to see some personal shots. You'd be the 1st with some personal shots of the O2 Trion.
Well I took some pictures! I hope I could help so far!
Dood I'm jealous, really nice looking phone with a lot of features too! Thank you for taking your time to post up pictures of the phone!
As these babies starts arriving at the post office I suggest that someone creates a own TyTn Forum.

fyi.. this is NOT the TyTN.. this is the O2 Xion XDA.
Same stuff under the hood yes.. but different casing and the keyboard is german, not english style.
Mario could you tell us how low UMTS signal is?
hmmm... at least AKU2.2. Note the clock in the title bar (its not AKU1 btw because this phone is advertised as being Direct Push capable). Could you give us a quick screenshot of the version tab in settings/about please? Also, what are your IPL/SPL revision numbers?
I bored of taking some pictures again!
But I can say, that I have the Aku 2.3 on my device. So says the Device Info in the Settings Menu!
@El_Mar1ach1
What do you meen with "how low UMTS signal is"? It depends on the location. Sometimes I have 3 bars and sometimes I don't have any UMTS Signal!
Maybe I can tell you on September what signal strength I have in Italy on Vodaphone, when I visit my italian aunt!
I'm jealous too... i'm gonna grab one probably in mid august. i like the HERM200 more than the HERM100(pictured in previous) and of what i know so far cingulars gonna be carrying the HERM100 so that means i have to start getting ready to fork over $900 for this beast!

Good to see the now normal 64k colour screen. This shall go a long way in clearing up things. Using downloaded themes from the internet was touch and go. I ended up using a Monsters Inc cartoon theme as anything with people in it was just laughable!
I have sold my XDA, after nearly 14 months I have moved on. I am now using a S-E T610. This is a mobile phone, something that the XDA struggled with in my opinion. I look forward to see what happens in the new year... This will determine whether I buy an iPaq 2210 (£300 on http://www.ebuyer.com) or the XDA II tba £500+ . . .

I got a MDA II for testing (only a few days )
I have a MDA and what could i say
The difference is like night an day!!
The Display is bright clear and "sharper"
The thing i didn´t managed is to get in bootloader Mode :x
The MDA way is doing a cold reset on a MDA II
Are there Infos around to get in Wallaby Mode.
In that case there is a chance that i could share
the ROM Image for the public

LMFAO ROFL
t610 have the worst screen clearity out lol you cant see them in sunlight one bit and your complaining about the xda lol
sorry just made me laugh my xda seems fine much clearer then the 3650
re
I gotta agree with gazzaman2k.
I work part time in a UK phone shop and we have had more T610s returned than any other current phone. Not for technical reasons but because of complaints that they simply can't see the screen in sunlight.
A shame because apart from that the T610 is a fantastic phone.
Cheers, Shire
All Color LCD (back light style, all PDA and phones) is not easy to read under sunshine!
the old non-color phone is very clear under sunshine!
Walking down street today tring to ring somebody on my T610. I went and hid in the shadows of a nearby door way trying to see the daft thing.
Maybe in the future something can be done? My old Siemens c35i is sat in the draw maybe I should get that back out for use in the summer!!
From what I have seen of Palm screens in daylight, they should all be returned. I have an ipaq and xda and also an Axim x5, I like the xda screen, only problem is we cant do much about the backlight intensity except off/on, can this be hacked or is it hardware limited?
there was a link somewhere on this site that took you to an ipaq hack site. I followed the reg hack, and was presented with the brightness tab. I adjusted this to see what would happen. Nothing, the settings had no effect. Except at either extreem where it was either off or on.
So it must be a hardware limitation, as a software hack did not help.
My XDA II broke, and I bough MDA II.
The maximum screen brightness on the MDA II is much lower than on the XDA II.
I've opened them both up.
They are diferent from the inside!
Images os the two devices attached, MDA on the left, XDA on the right.
Their screens are different!
Even some memory chips seem to be different!
It's impossible to swich their screens or motherboards.
It seems that MDA II is an older version of the XDA, with an older, much darker screen.

Himalayas got 2 types of display - old and new connector.
Check serial number , it should be something like this S/N HTxxxxxxxxxx.
Devices with number lower than HT419 got old display, with higher than HT419 got new display.
Well, I'm officially an idiot....I left my JJ on the Eurostar on Sunday. And some lucky train sanitation agent has obviously seen it as a good opportunity to make a couple of quid (despite the offer of a reward )
Fortunately, apart from a couple of photos of Paris everything was backed up. I've managed to remote wipe it (Thanks to AKU2), and IIWPO is installed in the ROM (Thanks to XDA-Dev!!) so I'm waiting to see if my wife gets a text message that I can follow up on....
For now though, I've been relegated to using my trusty Tornado. (Although I keep finding myself prodding at the screen with a pencil in a vain attempt to recreate the happy days of PPC ownership....)
Anyway, my question is this:
I found the Universal to be pretty bulky. Not too bad, but I'd prefer something a bit smaller. My choices as I see them are:
1) Get a replacement Universal now and put up with the size.
2) Get a Fujitsu Siemens T830 in July and put up with a puny screen.
3) The HTC Hermes - pretty much exactly what I'm after, but God only knows how long I'll have to wait...and I'm impatient!
Any other sensible suggestions would be very welcome. Are there any other Universal replacements on the horizon that I may have missed?
Thanks!
I think I'm jumping ship to the Mio A701 tomorrow I want more toys (GPS), and can live without keyboard.
Hermes still seems an incremental improvement to me. Nice idea, but not quite what I'm after. And I think it looks a bit poo...
But then, I've still got my Universal, Magician and P900
V
I did consider the Mio. it looks nice and more toys are always good, but I use a lot of 'connected' functions so the lack of WiFi or 3G kills it for me. Looking at that device that led me to finding the T830...
If only the screen of the T830 wasn't so rubbish, I think this would be a no-brainer, but as it is I may stick with a Universal variant (and it's bulk) until something better comes along.
And the Hermes is pretty ugly, It's only a consideration over the T830 because (again) of the better screen. I think I've just been spoiled by the VGA lovliness of my dear departed JasJar, so I don't want to downgrade too far...
Fuji looks very nice. But screen is 240x240? Sigh...
I don't use my Universal much, but I really want a proper handheld with VGA. I'd go blind (it's hard enough to see on the Universal), but 240x240 is bad
Wifi isn't so bad for me, I've got a wifi card. 3G - useful, but I don't use it in the UK really. Does the Benq have a qvga screen? It's old skool, but if screen space is a priority...

He probably also wants something he can actually buy.
I'll be able to live without a VGA screen. Just not sure I want to go as lo-fi as 240x240. Mainly because of software compatibility problems...WM5 has precious little decent software already, without complicating matters further.
If the T830 was QVGA it'd be perfect (well...close enough to perfect!). I think I need to do some research on the problems with square screens, then I'll decide on whether to wait for the T830, or just get another Uni.
Thanks though, I do at least know that I haven't forgotten anything. You wait, when they start releasing Ultraportable PC's with built in 3G and voice capabilities, I'm really going to struggle...!
What about:
Advance TC M.A.G.I.C.?
How about a list of what you REALLY want to be there (at least)
All I want is a PPC with:
-AKU2 (for Push-Mail and A2DP)
-3G and WiFi (for decent connection speeds)
The most important NON-essential features are:
-Keyboard
-QVGA screen (or better)
-GPS
Obviously, I'd appreciate anything over and above that, so the more bolt-ons the better. And yes, something that I have a chance of buying in the UK within the next couple of months would be good.
I realise that limits me to roughly one device that's currently available, but the T830 is on it's way, the Hermes is possibly on it's way, Shame the Trinity will take about a million years to surface (if ever).

I agree. The case will probably crack .
iPhone 3gs or samsung omnia pro it is then...
they better not ask 750 bucks for it out the door.. not with the same outdated procesor... ****in milkin it for all she's worth.... i smell a boycott... <disgrunted se customer
omg... i don't want it... the screen 3.2" is still too small (for me)... and why don't i buy the prettier X1 but the uglier & (likely to be) more expensive X2 ???
i thought it looked quite nice.lol. can never tell from just pictures anyway. ill reserve judgement for when i see one in the flesh. id imagine its like when they went from the p900 to p910. where they didnt really change the specs much but improved on a lot of the bugs and usuability. im hoping they sorted the keyboard issue and the terrible reception...
I thought it looked nice. The camera is better, and what does it for me is the fact that it gains tv-out.
Where does it say it is using the same processor?

looks like much more solid than the x1, also its got a flush screen and the led has moved to the top rather than 2 on each side which is dissapointing. was hoping they had kept the illuminations and mayb added a user editor this time around.
very nice user interface but i wouldnt be surprised if someone manages to figure out a way to flash it to the X1
dont like the sound of this though..

I wish our great cookers gonna steal some stuff from x2 like PanelManager and some new panels. On second video we can see that performance is quite bad, normal honeycomb menu is very choppy. I think it's waste of money when the same stuff we can have on our x1

im not gona hold my breath for an october release but i hope its out before christmas. one advantage to it using quite a bit of the same tech as the X1 is that sony should be able to release it much quicker than the X1.

well they can go to hell if it's the same CPU, f*ck them.

I currently stuck on deciding between two devices i thought id post here and get some opinions from shift users.
I currently have a Samsung NC10 wich is brilliant but ive stopped carrying it around because its too big tbh and i need to trade up for something more portable.
Both have:
- Intel A110 (Stealey) 800mhz
- Intel GMA 950
- 1 GB RAM (ddr2 i think?)
- 40 GB HDD (4200 1.8"?)
- 1024x600 (i presume both squeeze the res down?)
Fujitsu u810:
- Size (w/h/d mm) - 171/152/32 mm
- Better keyboard
- 5.6 inch screen

HTC Shift:
- Size (w/h/d mm) - 207/129/25 mm
- HSDPA
- 7 Inch screen
The way i figure therye both getting Win7/XP & Ubuntu dualboot the u810 bas i big chunky battery so they end up verry similar size wise and that 7" screen on the shift is nice.
But i have had issues with HTC, ive owned 3 different htc devices and all 3 have had faulty mini usb sockets, and i worry about htc build quality and software/drivers in general, my touch pro is a complete disaster.
I basically just want opinions, im leaning towards the shift but it htink the ppc part is pointless really and again build quality?.
I like to know if there are any common gripes/faults with the htc shift or has anyone used both? What is the shifts build quality like?
thanks for your input. funk
HI,
I like the HTC and never had a problem with build quality (4x Universal, 2x Xperia, G1, Kaiser, Shift). ((right, the Xperia is another story ... ))
Shift is really good and massive.
I have a Sony UX380 also so can compare the screen sizes. My opinion: the Shift with 7" screen is better to use and see.
Keyboard is fine on SHift, fast typing is possible.
Built in 3G modem is a very big positive point.
I don't know the battery life on u810, but my shift can run with 3G approx. 2hours (the battery is not a new one). Without wireless it is longer...

well with the u810 i would have to buy two batteries anyway because it comes with a huge extra life one and id buy a smaller one for evryday use, the u810 claims 4 hours but without the big battery sticking out the back it will be about 2 hours. So i wouldnt mind buying a spare for the shift, and atleast the screen size will take up most of the face of the device in tablet mode.
(note the u810 glamuor shot above doesnt show the bulky battery version ofc)
Dilemma solved ?
Hi,
Look, the Shift is a "HYBRID"" on of a kind device, which is extremely
well built and feels solid as , well, a brick.
HYBRID... meaning, there's a second computer inside, which is a Windows Mobile Phone. SO you'll get an "always on supersize PDA" AND a Windows7/XP computer)
Having said this, the decisive buying factor for many owners is the advantage for having a PDA with a gigantic battery which allows for a weeks work in Winodws Mobile (AvtiveSync, Browsing, Email, occasional calls and SMS), anything you'd do with your PDA, there's a GPS inside to have you use Google Maps etc... all WITHOUT booting an OS like ubuntu,Win7.
Then, when the task at hand requires "a(ny) netbook/" you simply
boot your OS of choice and have your go with that.
You can't leave that out of consideration.
Yeah they are very different devices. You would never be able to fully compare the two device due to the differences in hardware.
Personally I would have both if somone were to give them to me! They are both very neat little devices. Personally I think the Shift looks better. The U810 looks very chunky, a bit dated.
well ive made my purchase , thanks for the advice, (and the seller told me to try xda developers for more info and help) hehe

I’m still using 3 of mines up until I find a good replacement; I’m stuck on the open hardware and design. I really wish that I was good enough to upgrade the internals myself to something better. I’m waiting for D-two to finish up the bootloader so that I can do some full installs of either a light android OS or a Linux gaming/emulator OS.
Great mate!
Looking forward to get it fully working

I use mine daily. I have it running Windows Mobile 6.1 with the HTC Diamond interface. Mostly it sits on my nightstand as an alarm clock/radio... but in June it went with me on a trip to Japan... and in early December it went with me on a business trip to New Mexico for a week. I put a TMobile SIM in it, and I left my laptop at home and relied solely on the Universal. It did great! It plays movies, sends emails, takes calls, surfs the web... and it looks so unique I constantly get asked "what IS that?" .
I wish some manufacturer would bring back the clamshell design, I think the Universal is the perfect form factor... the keyboard is awesome.

I just brought mine back out of the closet. Still works great; I think I'll use it again.
killed mine lately- but are trying to have a new 128
It looks like my use/time is over...
It's a sad day for me. My other hobbies, projects, and life have all changed leaving my Universals and related projects behind. I'm selling my last 4 Universals together on Ebay and my 3 Blue Angels. I had just gotten the one I always wanted too, the all black O2 Exec with blue buttons. :crying:.
It's been some fun years, I hope to see everyone if they ever make a HTC Universal 2, it's not looking likely though.

I have had my Universal for over 8 years now, it has been a good device.
A few weeks ago, I popped a SIM back into it, and tried to make a call - no sound! I poked around some more, and my poor Universal no longer makes any sound at all, thru the speakers or the phone. The mic on the phone no longer works either.
It still sends/receives SMS texts, and still connects to the internet via Wifi and 3G, so it is still somewhat useful. If I can get it working again as a "USB Modem", I will keep it... otherwise, it may be time to let it go..... :crying:
Hi,
I bought one today (it was sold as defect device because of missing charger). Hope I will use it for some time.. I totally loved it when I was a teenager but I never had the money to get one (back then I used other nice devices but as you know - during childhood you never had enough money for that kind of stuff). Now I'm trying to get all the devices I always wanted to own (some kind of a childhood dream, devices like HTC Universal, Nokia E90, Palm T/X & Lifedrive and these things..).
But in daily use I have some other devices such as 5C, 6+ and some HTC and Palm smartphones.
I also had a problem with no sound - it was working only on headphones... till today I'm not sure what was the issue, but i tried to overclock processor, cleaning jack input and other stuff.
I am a proud owner of 128MB RAM version, but I don't use it daily
And mine still rocking!
