HTC Shift VS Fujitsu u810 - opinions please - Shift General

I currently stuck on deciding between two devices i thought id post here and get some opinions from shift users.
I currently have a Samsung NC10 wich is brilliant but ive stopped carrying it around because its too big tbh and i need to trade up for something more portable.
Both have:
- Intel A110 (Stealey) 800mhz
- Intel GMA 950
- 1 GB RAM (ddr2 i think?)
- 40 GB HDD (4200 1.8"?)
- 1024x600 (i presume both squeeze the res down?)
Fujitsu u810:
- Size (w/h/d mm) - 171/152/32 mm
- Better keyboard
- 5.6 inch screen

HTC Shift:
- Size (w/h/d mm) - 207/129/25 mm
- HSDPA
- 7 Inch screen
The way i figure therye both getting Win7/XP & Ubuntu dualboot the u810 bas i big chunky battery so they end up verry similar size wise and that 7" screen on the shift is nice.
But i have had issues with HTC, ive owned 3 different htc devices and all 3 have had faulty mini usb sockets, and i worry about htc build quality and software/drivers in general, my touch pro is a complete disaster.
I basically just want opinions, im leaning towards the shift but it htink the ppc part is pointless really and again build quality?.
I like to know if there are any common gripes/faults with the htc shift or has anyone used both? What is the shifts build quality like?
thanks for your input. funk

HI,
I like the HTC and never had a problem with build quality (4x Universal, 2x Xperia, G1, Kaiser, Shift). ((right, the Xperia is another story ... ))
Shift is really good and massive.
I have a Sony UX380 also so can compare the screen sizes. My opinion: the Shift with 7" screen is better to use and see.
Keyboard is fine on SHift, fast typing is possible.
Built in 3G modem is a very big positive point.
I don't know the battery life on u810, but my shift can run with 3G approx. 2hours (the battery is not a new one). Without wireless it is longer...

well with the u810 i would have to buy two batteries anyway because it comes with a huge extra life one and id buy a smaller one for evryday use, the u810 claims 4 hours but without the big battery sticking out the back it will be about 2 hours. So i wouldnt mind buying a spare for the shift, and atleast the screen size will take up most of the face of the device in tablet mode.
(note the u810 glamuor shot above doesnt show the bulky battery version ofc)

Dilemma solved ?
Hi,
Look, the Shift is a "HYBRID"" on of a kind device, which is extremely
well built and feels solid as , well, a brick.
HYBRID... meaning, there's a second computer inside, which is a Windows Mobile Phone. SO you'll get an "always on supersize PDA" AND a Windows7/XP computer)
Having said this, the decisive buying factor for many owners is the advantage for having a PDA with a gigantic battery which allows for a weeks work in Winodws Mobile (AvtiveSync, Browsing, Email, occasional calls and SMS), anything you'd do with your PDA, there's a GPS inside to have you use Google Maps etc... all WITHOUT booting an OS like ubuntu,Win7.
Then, when the task at hand requires "a(ny) netbook/" you simply
boot your OS of choice and have your go with that.
You can't leave that out of consideration.

Yeah they are very different devices. You would never be able to fully compare the two device due to the differences in hardware.
Personally I would have both if somone were to give them to me! They are both very neat little devices. Personally I think the Shift looks better. The U810 looks very chunky, a bit dated.

well ive made my purchase , thanks for the advice, (and the seller told me to try xda developers for more info and help) hehe

Well, this sucks... new diamond 2 released?

I JUST ordered a Touch HD two nights ago. No sooner to I happen to log onto HTC's site and I see the Diamond 2 is going to be released. (3G version for the US)
For those that have the HD, are you happy with it? I bought it because I don't care about 3G, in fact, my present Diamond Touch is set to only use EDGE.
Any thoughts? I may just sell it before I even open it.
Thanks,
Mark
or you can always return it? Most countries have a return policy. Within 7 days you can cancel
I was due to order my Touch HD at the end of month but now im not sure whether its worth waiting for the new Touch Pro 2.
Anyone know when its due for release?
if you got the diamond (its not coming out just yet) a new HTC phone will be announced in < 3 months anyway. So why bother not buying one because a newer one is coming out. Thats always the case.
Im happy to stick with the HD for a year until something REALLY spectacular comes or at least something new thats not been seen before. I have no doubt we will get somewhere with the HD as it is and i have no issues with the standard ROM for most use. its purely videos that suck.
Im waiting for WM7 for starters.
I send my back because with the new devices the old ones get noe updates anymore
perhaps once in a wile a bugfix for one annoying error
nothing more
to get new features - sell htc device and buy new one
hail to the economy crisis
nobody has learned yet to keep customers happy
Well, that's wierd. I checked out HTC's site and the Diamond 2 isn't listed???
Wonder what happened to it?
Mark
Ahhhh, there she is.

i find it hard to believe there will be no wm6.5 for the HD..... i mean the specifications of the touch pro and diamond 2 are the same as the hd. 528mhz 288 ram.....
3 factors are swaying me to stay with the HD.
1) 3.5 audio jack.
2) talk time is better on the HD.
3) Dutty has already had his hands on it. That's worth it right there.
Mark
it's smaller screen size so that's one big fault already and as others have mentioned with no 3.5mm, it's all bloody proprietary stuff and you know how hard those are to find.
Stick with the HD, it's still the better phone IMO, that's why you pay the premium price on it though.
the USA will be the last in line getting these devices... i'll have my HD (and hopefully some leaked official versions of 6.5) to keep me happy until a NAM 3G version is available toward the end of the year. i like what i'm seeing, just disappointed the USA has to take a back seat on releases... life goes on...
Stick to the Touch HD , you will not be disapointed. I have stock ROM and its working flawlessly. It's fast and the screen is amazing. I use it for video and picture viewing. And sometimes for music (I hear the new devices dosnt have 3.5mm jack, so forget them!)
WinMo 6.5 dosnt seem so important...What changed? IE7 ? use Opera instead, its better. File Explorer? Use Resco Explorer or Total Commander (i use this one). The home screen? SPB Mobile Shell 3 will be out soon using 3d (smooth effects) and will be far better.
WM7 will be cooked by some romguru on this forum when its out. You can bet on it!
Thanks everyone. Sounds like I will definitely keep the HD. Like I said, I don't care if I use 3G anyways so sounds like a winner for me.
I appreciate everyone's input.
Thanks again,
Mark
According to HTC's website http://www.htc.com/www/product/touchdiamond2/specification.html , the screen is only 3.2 inch. It only supports HSDPA for Asian and European countries (again) - same as Touch HD.
One concern I have for the design is the presence of the zoom slider directly below the screen. I think many users are going to touch it accidentally and cause unwanted zooming in/out effect.
I think the price will be the best thing about this. The original diamond was around $AUD800-900 released here so if it's the same price then my brother is considering it.
Before getting the HD, I was a happy TyTN II user. Sure I wished for at least VGA and a larger screen but I was content (with the technology back then). But when the super sexy HD came out with WVGA and faster performance I was interested but the lack of keyboard held me back till I found out I could manipulate the screen to horizontal for any "serious typing" since the landscape keyboard was almost the same size in length as the physical keyboard. Now with FingerKeyboard (the black & red) I am completely satisfied. I gained light-weight and thin and able to type.
I was in same posison, I seems to HD too
Unquestionably it would be the Touch HD.
.... and why ~ Well because it is here right now.
I don't follow the 'waiting game' camp of users.
I need technology now. The HD gives me all I need and some.

Ask yourself,
Do you need a new phone now?... or are you prepared to wait the 3 - 6 months it'll take the TP II to hit the shelves?
Just had a look on the HTC site ... that pro 2 looks gorgeous. I am very happy with my HD but I am now a little annoyed. Got another 18 months to wait!!

Does anyone have T-Mobile Shadow now?

Write here please
I have one, but I'm not using it currently. I just keep it for a backup phone.
Can you help me? I need to know its user agent.
I have one and probably 2 more other people that still use it !

ROM:WM6.5 by 阳光
yeah me too. primary device. running 6.1 cause 6.5 didn't float my boat. I like it buuttt the processor is horid. I mean for the price, awesome. But when 15 year old's show off thier IPhones to me....it's a little depressing. If I didn't have a heart, I'd grab it and run into the darkness like a sneeze to a tissue.
Until a few days ago it was my daily phone. Now that I have my new phone ,which uses an all touch screen, I kind of miss the Shadow. I guess I can alternate. LOL
Heard the Shadow II's were trash in comparison the original. Best part of the phone was that there was so many resources for it and the ROMS
Too bad I finally got a ROM working on it until after I got my new phone. Sigh.
ive got a shadow but im running 6.0 i want to update to 6.5 but not entirely sure how to go about that

Tmobile Shadow and read and input Chinese
Hi,
I am new here.
I am trying to find out how to read and input Chinese for my Tmobile shadow..?
Thanks
I still have my Shadow....as a backup. I loved my Shadow. I believe I got my money's worth of use out of it. In fact, I found that I was running out of features to use on that thing. I switched over to the Touch Pro 2 when it came out (Aug 28 2009) to take advantage of the TMO 3G network, keyboard, and touchscreen. I've never got fully taken with the Touch Pro 2. It's a good phone, but just doesn't seem to scream "pick me up!". I now use a HTC HD2 since it came out on TMO (MAR 24 2010). It's darn good. The capacitive screen is awesome, but I still find myself missing the stylus from time to time. It's so difficult to select a tiny button with a finger! The processor speed is blazing fast. This is what all WinMo phones need for their processor. The 1 Ghz snapdragon processor lets me use the phone fast, like it's meant to be. It don't even have to remind myself anymore that it's basically a mobile computer.
But still, the T-Mobile Shadow is a great phone. I still pull it out from time to time to admire it's beauty. The Neo UI is VERY functional. I would say it's the precursor of TouchFlo 3D and Sense UI. It packs so much handy info with a great use of screen estate. Not to mention, the hardware looks beautiful! When I pull out this phone, people still ask me about it. The keyboard allows me to type amazingly fast! I remember my texts would just pound out because of how fast I could type on that 20 key keyboard. Last, but not the least, the navigational dpad/wheel. The phone has a pretty cool look to it. That circle looks techy at night. I used to browse the web a lot with the phone on Opera Mini. I loved navigating pages (going up/down) using the wheel. Why this dpad style isn't used more often, I'm not sure. That wheel was probably meant for the Neo UI. I never really used it for that. It just took too many wheel flicks to get Neo to go right or left in the pane. But, I absolutely loved the wheel in Opera Mini (just reiterating).
So what's my rating?
Sure, the T-Mobile Shadow is a bit slow sometimes. But it's fine piece of Windows Mobile equipment. It's probably one of the least appreciated Windows Mobile devices to ever reach mass-market. For all that has the phone now, be sure to visit All-Shadow.com
That website is the dedicated place to find ROMS, hacks, mods, etc. How many phone models have a dedicated website with that much useful info packed? Probably not many.
As for GPS, I used Google Maps with a small external GPS receiver that I carried with me. It worked great, and costed me only $20. It's super easy to set up, and the Shadow is plenty fast at getting GPS positions.
There isn't much thats missing from the Shadow for a mid-range smartphone user. It's simple, fun, and could be loved plenty. It just takes a little work to see what you want. Make it yours.
I never liked the Shadow 2. BIG Disappointment. It reeks of cheap plastic. The only thing I really liked about the Shadow 2 is the UMA calling. In fact, I might get a Shadow 2 for that feature. The slight bump in speed (processor/ram) just doesn't seem to be worth the difference between Shadow 1 and 2. I like the accelerometer on the Shadow 2. I haven't used it extensively, but how useful could that be except for pictures? I don't see much other use. Get the original Shadow folks! You'll be surprised at how good it looks.
still have it!!! best phone ever!!!
still have my shadow for a back up had some fun with it for some time #1 site allshadow
me favorite phone.
It was my first "smart" phone and I absolutely loved it. Sold it for an iPhone, hated it. Sold the iPhone for a G1, and though I love it, I still miss the Shadow. I got it back recently from my friend, unfortunately it's semi-bricked, and I need to get it fixed. I felt so happy holding it again, lol. It is probably the best phone I've ever used, apart from the slow hardware. My absolute favorite keyboard.
still have mine... went back to 2007 6.5 from shadow II

HTC LEO Images

Reading through a blog, i found this interested pics of the new HTC LEO phone. Worth a look !!

HTC Leo pics. It is real thing with WM6.5
Found this
http://www.engadget.com/2009/09/14/htc-leo-spotted-in-the-wild-sports-gargantuan-800-x-480-display/
So far I have only 3 concerns
- 3.5" audio - can not see it
- And backing seems kind of ugly
- Also lower buttons are almost on the edge of the device - silicone cases may suffer from this

Welcome LEO..
the 3.5mm seems to be on the bottom of the handset, next to the mini-usb. There is a slightly extruded bit if you look closely.
And my coworkers mock me for the size of my Touch HD...
Thats one HUGE phone.
Now I see it at the bottom. Strange design

I believe so !
4.3-inch WVGA (480 x 800) capacitive touchscreen display
Windows Mobile 6.5
Qualcomm 1GHz MSM 8250 Snapdragon processor
Wi-Fi
GPS, A-GPS
Accelerometer
Light & proximity sensors
3.5mm headset jack
Digital Compass
5 megapixel auto-focus camera with dual LED flash
512MB flash memory, 320MB RAM
wow that's a really big phone.
I was thinking about buying it when released but the size is really... big!
well it seems like the size of the htc leo is somewhat similar to tosiba tg01.
My new Phone.
When we see the pics, it's not too big compared with a Touch HD.
But the question is, when can we buy it?
Is it HD2?
its so big...

well although HD was the ultimate fone, still we did see the sluggish and the lagged size of the fone, thanks to the newsense ui launched by htc which revived the dieing windows mobile htc hd fone,
all i expect from this fone is to be fast, and with the processsor and enough ram onboard i hope to see LEO outperform its cousin TOUCH HD.
i just wonder how it would be ANDROID + SNAPDRAGON + XPERIA 2 PANELS + SENSE UI = LEO ULTIMATE PHONE 2009
the pics are nice.the phone looks v nice.but like most guys here its a little too big.wonder if it will fit into a pants pocket.i dont like to carry the phone in a pouch around my waist like some old dude
I read that WM 6.5 will supports capacitive screens, no ?
I could well be wrong, I just had it in my head that it didn't, hence my confusion.
looks charming spec sheet wise, though judging by those side-by-side pics with the TouchHD (which is already on the edge size wise) , it will be ridiculously big
other concerns being that it's thinner, yet has a larger display, more ram and a twice as powerful cpu : will that lead to a shorter battery autonomy?
and if the screen is indeed conductive it will be annoying having to zoom in rather then using the stylus when web browsing or using some of the more ppc-oriented windows apps.
we'll see

What if you could trade your Touch HD to any phone in the world...

What if you could trade your Touch HD to any phone in the world, no mather the price or release date!! Which phone would it be??
For me- Im currently looking at Toshiba TG03 or Toshiba K02 or NOKIA N900 !!!
And Im looking at selling my Touch HD for about 400-440 dollars , is that a good price, or should I ask more(phone is in good condition, screen has always had a screen protector, has a dent in uper right corner of phone(fell from a meter high), and VOL UP button doesnt work properly(plastic falling of)), a custom rom installed from xda-devs much faster than original!
i would trade it for a LEO
besides that, nothing else. i love my HD, used as a "personal digital assistant", not a gameboy
what do u want to have in your pocket?
I could only comtemplate this, but would need to test each phone before I would actually make a decision. Most likely be the HD2 (Leo) as you have XDA right beside you for mods, roms, radio etc etc etc
The Toshiba TG03, Toshiba K02 & NOKIA N900 all look great, but without XDA, their just isn't a comparison to be made

I agree on that no xda support for both Toshibas, But Nokia just aint that full of bugs, and they give out firmware updates which fix problems! + n900 is running Maemo 5 (something interesting ) !!! by the way -- is it true that N900 can only be used with both hands?? (no portrait mode)
Iphone 3GS 32GB, then sell it for 600€ and buy a E75 for 200€.

I'm looking at a "Leo" at the moment as my HD has a few problems..., though there seems to be a few issues with it at the moment, alot just seem to be firmware related and could be fixed with an official update from HTC, though there seems to be problems with the camera...??, hmm.... not sure, for me the wvga screen format is where it should be at !!, and that processor seems like it's more than capable, as well as a decent amount of RAM, there just needs to be more developers get behind WM, to combat the Iphone....., It's more about net surfing organizers calenders/ alarms.....etc for me, but it would be nice to have some sweet looking games similar to the Iphones, other than that I'm going to have to say the Iphone 3GS, only because of the OS, the phone is clearly not as good as some of HTC's finest...eg. HD2 (LEO), but the wealth of applications available is staggering, but...., no true multitasking..., still no decent camera, and I'm hearing people complain about call quality...?, and having to sync everything back to Itunes is going to **** me off !! ??.....I'm traditionally a PC guy, but am buying a Macbook pro early 2010 some time, specifically for using a music program "Logic", so I'm going to have to get used to the whole Itunes thing, and I spose it may sync a lil better, (though I've seen software available that will sync a WM device with apples OS with ease), So......, I spose if everything is rocksolid with the LEO, then the LEO.....Hmmm, other than that....IPhone 3GS, I can see people getting all worked up at the mere suggestion of an Iphone, but as far as the OS goes I think it's alot smoother, and they seem more established, lets hope the next cple of years see microsoft get right in there as well !!
For me it would the the HD2/Leo but with a Resistive screen so I can use my finger when I want and use a stylus when I want.

I think that's it. Thoughts? I, for one, certainly welcome the more capacious battery and higher screen resolution (though that's hardly a big deal on such a small screen). I'm a bit bummed that they didn't use this opportunity to make the screen a bit larger, and include directional keys.
Quite disappointed actually - what is this? A facelift?
This could have been a serious opportunity for Motorola to really create a "grim reaper" for the new Blackberry - and they are just giving it away with something that is already out-dated before its even out! No dual-core cpu? No front-facing camera? Only a VGA screen?? I mean come on .. once in a time, Droids were top of the line Android devices with the latest tech and now Moto just seems to retreat and leave that job to Samsung and LG ... Oh and something else, it doesnt look half as attractive and cheeky as the original Pro ... just my 2 cents ..
No front camera + no screen size increase = FAIL.
I mean come on, how hard is it to make that screen a 3.5 inch? Or at least a 3.3?
I just wish I could get it here in the US. I really don't want to go to Verizon just to get this style of phone.

I've read in several places that it's anticipated to come to the US as well. It evidently has support for both AT&T and T-Mobile: http://www.electronista.com/articles/11/08/30/motorola.pro.plus.unveiled/
Even if it doesn't get an official release in the US, it should be fairly easy to get an unlocked one from overseas.
The phone is definitely a disappointment for me. I love my Pro, and I was looking forward to some sort of significant bump up. Oh well, I guess I'll start looking elsewhere.
Great. I want the better resolution. My BB 9780 had SUCH a glorious screen, the Droid Pro aint bad, but it aint stellar either. Can't wait for this to come out.
Getting my MOTOROLA PRO+ (AKA: MB632, "Elway Plus", apparently...), on Monday, from the UK... Very disappointed to see that there is very little (practically nothing), about said device - and even about its predecessor the DROID PRO - but yet other "not-so-good" (but similar in a way) devices (ie: Samsung Cha-Cha), do even have custom ROMs available at this stage!
This is a very good device (on paper at the moment, I will find out more in 48h when I finally have it) but for those of us that want a "bar" type, qwerty keyboarded, Android smartphone, for mostly emails, texting, calls (obviously) and - most important (at least as far as Im concerned): one of the best battery lives amongst all Android devices! - this is a dream! ...but of course if you are one of them people who use their smartphones more like a tablet (movies, games, music, etc.) than a phone, then this device is not for you...
MOTOROLA PRO+ "Temp Forum"
Im hoping not to be contravening any rules here but since there is barely any info on the MOTOROLA PRO+ at the moment (not much info either on its predecessor MOTOROLA (DROID) PRO), I though all little bits of infor around (I have posted a few things in different places) could be gathered in one place - HERE: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=19973225#post19973225 ...at least until when (and if) a dedicated section is created for this device...

everyone should go to: Link and vote +1 for a separate Motorola Pro+ Forum
I just got mine ordered and should be here soon. I'm actually excited. I've been using blackberries for 5 years and selling phones for just about the same length of time. I switched to android but after a year I still find typing to still be a pain and a blackberry just can't be fully replaced due to their amazing keyboards. All keyboard android alternatives are horrible. After reading all the reviews this phone sounds exactly like a perfect combination of android meets blackberry.
