Have to soft reset many times Help :( - MDA II, XDA II, 2060 General

Well, its been awhile since I've joined this forum as my XDA2 working perfectly with WM2003SE (version 4.21.1088 (Built14132). Its an Asean Rom.
But things now things are not really working so well, in fact I might call it weird.
1. At times, when I look at the screen, there are some very fine lines going around horizontally.
2. When I need to softreset my PDA, I need to do it many times as it will stuck at the first image and slowly fades away to totally white screen. At first i thought the PDA has hard reset itself but no (lucky). It simply boots up and fades away. Now, I need to push the stick in a dozen times to hopefully make it through the start image.
3. 'On' button doesn't respond sometimes.
All of this started at the same time till now.
I backed up and did a hard reset....same thing also.
Hopefully someone with the knowledge or experience can help me out
Thx in advance

XDA 2 Freezes and WONT HARD RESET!

Hi
Last month I got a new XDA 2 and since then I have installed a few games and utilities and regularly sync with the main pc.
However over the past few days, the whole device freezes very randomly at regular intervals. Sometimes nothing is running at all, other times its just as its about to ring with an incoming call. Today it is even worse, it freezes every 5 minutes, and it takes several soft resets before I can get past the password screen without another freeze. None of the buttons respond during a freeze, and the backlight goes out as normal after 30 seconds (but will not go back on). Even though the device has frozen, both the indicator lights will continue to flash green and blue.
I decided to do a hard reset as advised in the instruction manual. However now its even worse. The phone loads up with the O2 logo and the rom versions in the bottom right corner, then the screen flashes and the O2 logo appears on its own. Nothing happens at all after this and again, tapping the screen or pressing the buttons dont work.
Please could someone advise me whats wrong with this phone? Ive had it for less than a month and I dont consider my use of it to be outside what anyone else would use it for. As far as im concerned, it seems very unreliable to fail so badly after such little use.
Any help would be welcome before I seek a refund.
Ash
Edit: If I hard reset several times, one in 5 succeeds. However after 2-3 minutes it freezes again while auto installing applications.
I would not be wanting to keep that phone.
It's common knowledge that there are some flaws in the Microsoft Windows Mobile OS that have been there since the early days, but were never deemed serious enough to tackle back then. (Remember the DOS 640kb barrier?). However, some tweaking and tuning can be done to make the XDA II a perfectly workable machine .... indeed very pleasant to work with.
What you're experiencing, however, to me sounds like a defective unit, and if I were you, I'd go back to my supplier to get a new one, period.
My first XDA-2 Did the same, and seemed to get worse, the more i tried to fix it and removes software and keep reseting etc etc.
In the end i i went back to the shop (this was over 28 days) showed them, i did not have any problem exchanging it for a new one.

Has it died??

My O2 XDAII is 10 weeks old. After using the internet and the screen freezing I SOFT-RESET it. Now the screen will only flash with the O2 logo between the backlight coming on and off and a few letters/numbers at the bottom right of the screen. Ive never had any problems before...I cant soft-reset, hard-reset or (it seems) to be able to charge it. The only way in which it stops 'flashing' is to take out the battery. Is there anything I can do at home?? (as you probably guessed Im a novice at all this!)
Any help would be greatly appreciated
Many thanks, Rob
This happened to me just yesterday, although It happened in different circumstances. Baiscally, I went to turn the phone on and it wouldn't (with any button.) I tried a soft reset and all that happened was the O2 screen appeared with the backlight flashing on and off every 10secs.
Before trying a hard reset I waited to see what would happen when i connected it to the cradle at work. Soon as I connected it. it switched back on, but it was as if it had done a hard reset (ie everything I have installed was erased. Good job I made a backup!).
Basically, it seemed to rectify the problem once connected to the cradle, which hasn't happened to you I know, but i thought I'd let you know that I got the same "symptoms".

Problem with my TYTN

Hi everyone.
This just started 2 days ago. This never happened before
When i turn on my phone everything is ok the screen is fine, but hen once it loads up its starts to lag. memory on the phone is not an issue. the scroll on the left side doesnt allow me to scroll down or up , the wheel moves but the on the screen nothing moves. Now the worse part is the screen.
When i turn off my screen and then turn it back on.. the colours are all messed up. the screen is a pinkish blue coulour and almost unreadable. i tried a soft reset and the screen goes back to normal but once I turn off the screen and turn it back on , i get the same problem.. Now do you think a hard reset would fix the problem?
I had this start last weekend. I had the screen issues and the hardware buttons were very sporadic in function. Most of the time they just didn't work.
I flashed back from Black Satin to the T-Mobile rom and sent it off for repair. Should hear back next week as to the outcome.
Is your under warranty? Just send it away.
Only downside is I've only got a Blackberry Pearl as a backup at the moment.....
The above advice is good. Before going for warranty repair though you should do a hard reset to rule out a software issue.
Mike
No its not under warranty. I have no idea what rom is on it. I-MATE ROM is what shows up when it boots up. So it sounds like a hard reset will be the first choice. im not very familiar with these things so pardon if i sound a bit off. i wouldnt even know how to flash or anything like that.
Well i tried to hard reset and it it seems not to be letting me do that.
just hold the left and right soft key and press the reset button at the same time and wait for a prompt to pop up.. nothing it just soft resets.. now im getting a bit frustrated.

Well, I assume you have tried a few times. It's difficult sometimes to get them all simultaneously pressed. Incidentally, just in case there's any confusion - the soft keys are actually the hard keys with dashes on the D-Pad.
Another way is to go to Sart>Settings>System>clear storage icon.
Just bear in mind that if there is a major problem it may fail completely and you end up with even more of a problem than now - but I guess there is no choice really.

Some Help... Phone blank screening to a degree

Thanks for reading.
I'm currently using WM6.1 on the phone, and loving everything about it.
Since day 1, I've used a phone lock code, along with PIN1 code.
When unlocking the phone for after say an hours inactivity, the keypad will show, then the screen will go blank only showing the top bar of the phone.
Any press of buttons and screen will just make a beeping sound, and so far nothing I've done will restore the keypad to unlock the phone.
Is there anything wrong with the ROM i have, and is there anyone who can suggest how to correct this?
Please remember, the top bar still shows, and a reset allows the phone to work as normal (once logging back into it of course).
Thank you,
Hi guys,
Sorry to bring this back up, but this problem is still going on.
Not sure how to resolve it, so hoping someone would know how to solve this.
Thanks,
Posted twice for some reason.
Maybe is a sw failure,(50%) try to reflash with this fw: RUU_Hermes_CINGULAR_WWE_3625023_6275_1540700_108_UOOS_SVN05_Ship.exe
if your hermes its from att/cingular. after flash open and close the tap of hermes, if the blank screen continues or return this, the failure is hw (the flex component broken, bus, pcb) in this case you need to buy the spare part or send to sat.
good luck
other possible solution

Hi there,
Its not white screening, or anything else, I think the next time it does this, I'm going to have to take a picture, to make sure it can be understood clearly.
Basically, when bringing the phone out of standby (from pressing off/on button) and attempting to enter my pin into the phone the phone will allow me usually to press at least one number of my pin, and then it'll black screen, where the start bar still displays, but no response.
The handset isn't problematic when being opened for use, or anything else, its just annoying to have to reset to load the phone back up again.
I hope this helps?
Further to the above, here is what i've been talking about...
Happened last night, typically as I was bored, and had to wait till morning to take the photo...
Still no movement on this post...
Would it be suggestable to upgrade the install of WM?
If it is, how easy (will read guides beforehand) is it to do (reasonably, hard etc).
Just this is now my only phone, so don't fancy my chances bricking it.
Thanks!
Sorry to be posting yet again, but this has now happened 3 times a in row since last night. I wouldn't mind knowing if a rom fix would sort this, and if so whats the best rom to go for...
Just keen to get this sorted now...
Thanks.
If it helps, I've nothing running when this happens. The exception of last night, where I was using Audio Manager when walking home, and had to soft reset once in the door.
Hi
I am almost certain you have a software fault here and need to reload a new ROM - take your pick - my preference is schnaps - it isnt that hard to do and should solve your problem
Just go to the Windows upgrading section on here and follow the process - you will be happy

Leo won't boot anymore

Hi everybody!
Just got my Leo two days ago and I was bombed. Had a 4350 before and you can imagine what big a difference that is. But now this occured and I really don't know what the heck is going on here. Without any reason the Leo froze after not using it for two hours, just an active sync connec. So I grabbed it and it was frozen. Thus i did a soft reset. When it rebooted, for some reason it seemed like the first time I started the device, asked me for the time and google settings etc. Very confused. But then I came to the Homescreen, which was blank, just like after a hard reset. Ok, I thought. This is nasty but all my stuff was backed up, so what. I tried to switch to the settings panel and found it ultra super slow and the settings panel wouldn't even appear on the screen, just the title on top. I thought, this is wrong, very wrong and decieded for another soft reset. And now it won't boot at all. It stands still in the screen where it shows this pink circle and the RUU and whatnot version.
I am speechless. It just doesn't start, tried it like 4 times now. I didn't update RUU or anything since this thing is T-Mobile branded and it wouldn't let me. I tried it this morning but just got the error in windows that my device won't allow... After that I took it for a 3 hour ride outside and used it for like 10 more hours. And now this!
Has this ever occured to anyone else around here?
Any suggestions? I'm quiet angry right now, think I gonna return it tomorrow. Hopefully they don't say I tried to flash it or whatever since I did not. Cannot explain this to me.
Regards,
Zoimt
hi sounds like bad news have you tried a hard reset
Do a hard reset, press the up and down volume then at the same time press the power button. Keep all three pressed for about three seconds and a hard reset will start. If it happens again you have a faulty device.
I thought a hard reset is only possible in windows. Since I never come so far in booting process, I just tried it once but nothing happend. Not sure if I tried it for 3 seconds I assume I did

Take the battery out then put it back in. Once it's in press all three buttons at once until you see the hard reset begin. It will ask you to confirm by pressing the up volume button.
Oh boy! It started again! I thought I tried to hard reset it with the key combo you also adviced me and nothing happened but this time it worked. Thus I assumed it only works at a later point in the boot process. But thanks for showing me the opposite!
Man, this takes a load off my mind, thanks! Just hope this was a one time thingy and doesn't occur every 28 hours again.

zoimt
