My O2 XDAII is 10 weeks old. After using the internet and the screen freezing I SOFT-RESET it. Now the screen will only flash with the O2 logo between the backlight coming on and off and a few letters/numbers at the bottom right of the screen. Ive never had any problems before...I cant soft-reset, hard-reset or (it seems) to be able to charge it. The only way in which it stops 'flashing' is to take out the battery. Is there anything I can do at home?? (as you probably guessed Im a novice at all this!)
Any help would be greatly appreciated
Many thanks, Rob
This happened to me just yesterday, although It happened in different circumstances. Baiscally, I went to turn the phone on and it wouldn't (with any button.) I tried a soft reset and all that happened was the O2 screen appeared with the backlight flashing on and off every 10secs.
Before trying a hard reset I waited to see what would happen when i connected it to the cradle at work. Soon as I connected it. it switched back on, but it was as if it had done a hard reset (ie everything I have installed was erased. Good job I made a backup!).
Basically, it seemed to rectify the problem once connected to the cradle, which hasn't happened to you I know, but i thought I'd let you know that I got the same "symptoms".
my 1 week old Imate almost everyday gives me a black screen with no response what so ever from its buttons. even removing the battery does not help! I have to then hard reset the damn thing inorder for it to be back in business.
Any thoughts
note: running both firmwares didnt help 1.72 and 1.66
Take off either wisbar or spb software, (if you have any installed). When I used to have wisbar advance and today plus running together, somehow they always trigger a hard reset. Using one or the other helps. I'm using today plus 2.0 only because it has its own task manager.
hm..
I also han Hard Reset
I had installed Spb Pocket Plus,is this a problem?
AND plz. Everyone WHO had HARD RESET on I-mate/XDA2/Qtec 2020/MDA 2 TELL US WHAT PROGRAMM was a case of Hard Reset
My same old story...
After a week of usage... it auto hard reset...fully loaded with softwares.
Didn't have time to install any software and it hard reset two days later at abt the same time. Funny why this happen when the set has only factory default softwares.
Did some checking at PDA stores and there are many possibilities to this.
One of them is not properly following the 8hr charging time when it is new and also overnight charging. To solve it is to charge it until its full and disconnect the charger. Do this for a week and see what happens.
So far, my set never once auto hard reset again after i follow this routine.
Hope this helps....
thanx for an advice.
dead......
I just installed EasyTweak on a i-Mate v.1.72 and it went completely dead.
had to take the bat out for some minutes for it to recognise the hard-reset......
i'm gonna cry......
I am getting a similar problem with my 1 week old XDAII. It is all absolutely fine, and then suddenly it won't switch on or soft reset so I have to hard reset and restore a previous backup.
I thought it iwas battery related, but after hard reset, the battery is still got enough charge.
Any help greatly appreciated.
This is crazy!! exacly the same folks, my 1 week old XDA2 have been hard reset like 20 times!!! everything works fine and suddently I can´t turn it on and the soft reset doesn´t work. So hard reset and start all over again untill the next hard reset that can overcome within hours or 1 day time.
What I´m I gonna do.... it´s the second unit I´m testing.... and the same in both
Bill (from Spain)
Me too
Every week, keeps hard reset, I tried everything, every ROM, and nothing. At this time my phone is Hong Kong (yes I send it!) going to a Service center to see what they can do. I saw a xda2 from a friend and his got a New ROM that isn't avaliable ate www.myxda.com .... Any sugestions? and I yeard about Windows Mobile third edition
Can't stop the hard reset?
BACKUP, BACKUP, BACKUP!
I'm using Sprite Backup...its so much faster than the stock ones and best thing is it saves as an exe file. All you need to do is backup to the SD card and you're safe.
I have same experience:
I was doing fine when I went overseas over the weekend. As I was travelling, I powered off. And after an hour or so, I was unable to power on. It has nothing to do with the battery. No button or soft reset can bring up the screen. Only hard reset.
Note that I don't have such a problem when I power off at night. And both my batteries were charged >8hrs at new and I stop charging my battery when it reaches 100%. Not to mention I changed the battery as I thought it was due to no power. So, not a battery problem.
I don't think it is the software problem either, as after hard reset, I still get that problem when I powered off for an hour.
I did notice something on my 2nd encounter: the Phone app was up because I received a call. After I powered off, it stuck. At night, I closed all my apps and power off at the Today. I wonder if that is the cause.
Suggestion for those that have the same problem:
either
1) don't power off with your Phone apps running - close it totally
or
2) run Windows Media and turn off your screen or run some Display Off utility instead of power off
HTH
Hi all:
Yes, I uninstalled the spb utility and now the xda seems to work better plus the battery last twice as much as before with the spb utilities!!!
On the other hand I installed the sprite backup and it´s much faster than the build in app.
I hope it doesn´t hard reset anymore, but still testing it, only 24 hours without hard reset, I´ll confirm it after 3 or 4 days of smooth work...
See u
Bill
does any one know how we solve this damn bug !!
my 2 weeks old Qtek 2020 that i bought from london. crashes down and without reason performs hard reset every couple of days, i have backups but it is very frustrating, and all the time i have a feeling that the system is not stable.
my device info are :
rom version 1.66.00 wwe
rom date 02/20/04
radio version 1.10.00
protocol version 1337.18
extrom version 1.66.130
do i need to update the rom to solve the problem and if so what is the link to it
or are there any other suggstions how to solve the problem
Back to top
It might be for the following reasons:
1) some software you installed hard reset it or caused it to hard reset
2) the battery is not working properly or you left it to dry up
3) faulty hardware
Cheers
if it were faulty hardware then it's odd that a hardreset always works
Hmmm, sounding all to familiar. My XDA2, 1.66.00 WWE, had it a month, been back to o2 once and is on the way back now. I was having loads of problems with the thing freezing, mainly when taking it out of my pocket, turning on and not being able to do anything. I even ran it for a month with no extra software at all and it kept happening. Lets hope the service center can pin the problem down soon as ive currently had hardly any use out of the thing.
could it have something to do with the 2003 issue with not baing able to run more then 13 or how much was it processes
maybe some process get killed which is needed to turn on somehow
it would explain why people seem to get it more often if they have fancy today and skinning items which also have their own processes
I am beginning to thing this 'bug' relates to the battery.
I have charged my XDAII overnight for a week and it seems to be Ok since then !
to those who have unintentional hard resets on their XDA2, did you all upgraded your rom by yourselves? my XDA2 is just 3 days and i want to be extra careful with mine as i just installed tons of softwares today.
it's been awhile since my hardreset itself last
and my xda2 still have the 1.66 rom that it came with
I've had the Vodaphone VPA for about 2 months now. Starting about 2 weeks ago it has begun to do soft resets when I try to power it up. Sometimes 1 in 10 power ups will reset, sometimes 1 in 3. I have found no logic or reason to the madness. The problem started under WWE 1.11 ROM and still happens under the new WWE 1.12 ROM... any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
I too am having reset problems with the 1.11 Rom. Never had thi problem with the old 1.03 ROM...
But it only happens when I charge it via the wall socket, and unplug it, it will soft reset...no problem when i charge via USB...dunno why, dunno if it's a 1.11 problem...but I guess i'll just stick to USB charging then, no problem with that.
But mine will actually do that on the road. I'll pull it out of my pocket to check the time or something, and boom... reset. I've now started to look at my device before powering it on to see if the lights are blinking (meaning it might still be active) or if they are off (meaning that the thing has already crashed and is just waiting for the power on)... I don't know... I'm kinda lost on this one. Any other thoughts?
hmmm... the mystery deepens... It did it to me 3 times today. I have noticed that the lights will not flash prior to when it resets. So something is killing it while it is out of my hands (I've never had it do anything while I'm actually working on it.) I also noticed that 2 of the three times I set it down to look at something and it had crashed by the time I tried to pick it up 20 seconds later. I'm still experimenting... right now I have removed my 1GB SD card and am looking to see if the problem still exists.
Still hoping that somebody who reads this will have a magic pill for my problems
Oh well... that experiment didn't last long... 2 more resets in the last 4 hours without the memory card... could it just be that my phone is shot?
heyy everyone i have a bell vogue. It was working perfectly untill a couple of days ago when i woke up to find the screen didn't work. The phone would turn on and off, and seemed to function normally except that there was no display whatsoever. The backlight was also working, but there was nothing else. I performed a hard reset by holding the call and end buttons while soft resetting and the screen came back. Now the problem has happened again (3 days later) and neither soft nor hard reset will get the screen to come back.
does anybody have any ideas? i would guess that its a hardware issue except for the fact that it came back the first time and worked for a few days. btw i have not installed any custom roms or radios.
thanks!
Hi,
Yesterday, I had to do one of those ubiquitous soft resets we always have to do with Windows Mobile... but instead of getting a soft reset, my trinity totally hard reset itself! (and no, I didn't touch any buttons while pressing the stick in there)
I profited from the occasion of losing some of my data (backup was a couple of weeks ago) to upgrade the ROM. That all went fine until yesterday evening, when I did a soft reset with the stick and got a hard reset AGAIN!
Does anyone know where this can come from? How to fix this annoying problem?!
Thanks!
Daniel

Hi Daniel,
I had the same exact problem with certain Roms...
Just don't know if it can be hardware problem, but try using the original HTC rom for a while to make sure everything's OK.
Best regards
Hi
My trinityis sufferng from the same problem, and it's getting progressively worse. From it originally happening once every few weeks, I can now re-flash and it will hard reset as soon as a day later (usually once i've re-installed everything...)
I've tried lots of different and reportedly stable ROMs, the latest being FlixNOver and an excellent German WWE Manilla 2D one floating around whos name i forget.
I am now assuming my trinity is dying, with a hardware related issue.
What is puzzling is that information previously written to the phone often remains and is acessible after then hard-reset. If this was Windows XP I'd suggest the Hard Drive was was corrupting and Windows was losing it's profile.
Anyone any ideas?
