Almost ten years and here is the Gpad V500 😉👍 - G Pad 8.3 General

How many are left?
I carry it with crdroid, watch Netflix, YouTube Ace stream and read erotic comics haha and it's still fantastic even though it's almost 10 years old. Amazing how the years go by!

ours is still working as well (old LOS14.1) but has loads of problems right now with the digitiser.
Gonna try putting latest TWRP and LOS14.1 on it and see if that helps.
Edit a few h later: managed to flash new TWRP and crDroid, but had to use OTG attached mouse.
I think it's not worth it, if possible/affordable at all, to get a new digitiser.
crDroid isn't stable mulitiple reboots while setting it up.
Trying latest nightly LOS now.
Edit 2: No chance, Digitiser only partially working as before, no matter if TWRP or system.
Scrap.

I bought four V500s with various problems for very little money and assembled two with a non-functioning touchscreen. I paired BT mice while the MoBo was connected to a working display. I had a great time doing this.

Wouldn't mind trying to repair it but can't find cheap ones with a working digitiser.
A China new one on aliexpress would cost more than 40€ incl taxes here in Germany.

I read unflattering comments from buyers of V500 touch screens from AlịExpress, which is why I chose local auctions from private individuals. It lasted 3 years.

Hello there! I m still using this tab too after 9 years. The screen like some of you its giving me problems (but still working). I m primarly using it as a third display to show my pc stats made with FpsMon, connected via 5ghz Wlan with a nice app called Super Display. It creates an actual monitor in windows and you can use is like a real one. My charging port have problems, but it will still charge. I m using rr 7.1.2 with br kernel. I ve forked it and compiled a version attempting to overclock the cpu\gpu to have better deconding speed, but i unable to do that for now (currently full of work). I will try again later, but i don't think it will give alot of perf uplift. I also use it with kobo app \ kotastu for manga. Great tablet overall!

I found my old V500 in the closet while cleaning and assumed it was EOL because of the ancient Android version it was running. However, I just managed to flash Android 7 on it (LineageOS 14) and was able to bring it back to life. Pretty snappy for it's age and surprisingly even supports 5Ghz !

I' m playng alot with it. It s a really capable little old device! I ve oced the core to 2ghz, the gpu to 600mhz and the panel to 68hz (managed to boot to 90hz too, but the screen will drop huge amount of frames). Also, its better to run it with the screen resolution to 1280*800

Compiled a custom kernel on top of BrKernel. Did it just for fun, as i ve used the tab to read mangas and i was not satisfied with the speed of it. The last version had 2.1ghz on cores, and 600mhz on gpu, without display oc. But the tab is too old, the battery is basically dead and dropped the project. I still have the kernel, but as my linux partition is gone, i don't have the sources anymore, so i will not post it here. Also i had to add a passive cooling to the cpu to keep the temps under control.

i only got 6.9 mflops on my x10 benchmark!

Hello folks,
I just tried to benchmark my x10 with linpack and got only 6.8 or 6.9 mflops. is this normal, is there anything i can do to make it get a higher score?
I'm using the latest .435 firmware and rooted and have all the junk pps from the 'x10 junk apps' thread removed from my phone.
Thanks for any help.
How does the phone perform? Are you satisfied with it or does it lag considerably? A benchmark really means nothing other than bragging rights. If it feels fast and feels good then why worry about mflops?
Sent from my Delorean using a flux capacitor!
If you look in the developer forum just pick one of the ROMs and you will find info on enabling JIT
Sent from my 2.2.1 Beta4 using XDA App
My score for mflops is always around 39 and my highest is 40+

whether you updated via flashtool or through seus or pc companion, to optimize your phone is very simple especially if not wanting to root or install custom roms. download latest flash tool, once installed and up and running. make sure your phone is set on debug mode. connect to usb and plug into comp. though you may not want the apps that are in the custom folder. hit the customize button, you can remove them later. you will now notice that the optimize button is now highlighted in black. click on that button and let it install the files. This installs JiTv2 Files. this will bring mflops up and quad scores up. it however will not give very high scores. quad will be around 800-850 tops. mflops will be increased to about 20-30 maybe 35. notice on quad when running the rotating planets test. you might hit 33fps!!! instead of the supposed 30 that its only suppose to get. if you run neocore test you might only peg and 25-28. Good Luck!!
-OP
try running the test again after the unit has settled down (no activity for a while). you might get different results.

Hi SErooted,
thank you for your helpfull respond. i pressed the customize and then the optimize button like you said and the phone rebooted and the result was better. linpack now get about 32 and some change, quadrant about 757, and neocore about 21fps, shouldn't neocore get better frame rate than this?
can i get it even faster than this?
i have heard about clearing the dalvik chache when installing JIT for the first time. well i didn't clear any cache when i press that customize or optimizer button. did it do it automatically or do i still have to do it manually?
what i wanted was to have the interface and games run fluid and smooth. like no studder at all.
does the processor throttle down when the system is at idle?
should i overclock?
also, i have notice the video recording in hd mode have less studdering now. though its still there, but less. do you think it probably have anything to do with the memory card performance. i'm still using the stock 8gb that originally came with the phone.
My score for mflops is always around 39 and my highest is 40+

hello Michael7168,
thank you for your respond to my message. can you please elaporate more on your statement. is this an x10 you using? i would like to get this result too.
furthermore, i prefer not to use custom firmware at the moment as i use this phone frequently day-to-day and i need to have full functionality of it and reliably. custom firmware are still buggy and lacks some functionality of the phone that i still find usefull for my daily task. but if there is a better custom firmware that really does utilize all of the phone functionality, then please point me in that direction.

Hello xxcysxx,
yes neocore normally runs higher scores. round about 27-28 avg. i personally havent ran a stock firmware since right around mid december. i have alternated with a few and have finally settled on z.s 2.2b4. and have checked all roms available to find which is best. and custom firmware is sometimes shere you get the desired result. i have done some testing on my x10 with various settings and roms and will be happy to share with you what i have going on. my phone is very responsive. quad scores as of ten minutes ago was 2011 without having overclock widget installed. if yo install overclock widget and max out on screen and off screen min and max to 998mhz, you can achieve slightly higher quad scores. but really not needed if you follow settings below. i have a free app from market sysctl. it works!! not sure if you have read the thread on it yet but if not i will have to post there as i have found perfect settings for performance but at cost of battery drain. install if you have root, if not, the call to root is yours.
if interested.... download sysctl from market.

like i said performance not battery. i know for battery saving settings set these numbers close to what the default are. the lower the better battery, the higher, performance.
if you are really worried about daily performance and custom roms.... when/if you decide. i recommend eminence for 2.1 theme of your choice but i really dig bitsnackers theme its awsome and who wouldnt think a tron looking buzzlightyear isnt cool? its awsome. has a cool bootlogo too. all phone funstionality is there video, camera, flash. EVERYTHING!!
BELOW>>> Optimized, xrecovery, root<<<< ENABLED
if you are interested in a 2.2 rom which really does boost speed on phone and what not. i recommend z's 2.2beta4 as video is not working as of yet you might hold off. if you dont use video you should be ok with camera for now and that works. install gappsfreex10, z's data2sd, and theme of your choice. i like xfx10 cant remember name of creator (sorry) but this theme is great! all of theme are great to be honest this is just the one i use.
2.3 roms are out and they are snappy alone without having any adjustments, however there are things that dont work, camera is really the only thing i can think of right now. but by this time it might be fixed, cant say havent checked status but will when done replying.
you can install and run sysctl on these roms as well and gives great boost.
update: not sure if this is a result of sysctl or problems due to network overrun... mflops as of now are 3.2 i normally run 38+. Mmmmm, I wonder?
update 2: double checked after a little while and low mflops was due to network overload not settings. also once upon reboot from my settings i have a quad score of 2233. screen shot below. mflops picked back up but yet are not as high as usual 34.xx
as well to answer on dalvik cache... yes clear cache and also install cache cleaner from market. i have mine set to clear every twelve hours. when installing custom rom not always a case but recommend to wipe user data as well. a few minutes to reset your phone and make sure everything smooth is worth doing this. as well, clear battery stats.
either way, let me know what you guys think and if these settings help.

i have a question about xrecovery.
are you familiar with bare metal restore, acronis true image, or norton ghost.
i use these software to customize my laptop for different occations. whether i use my laptop to play games with my buddies at break hours durring schools, or do homework assignments in the library, or other general work. all i have to do is lay the image at boot and i have a completely different pc. it can be any os using any software customize in anyway, and took about five to ten minutes to lay down the image.
now back to the xrecovery question. can i do a "full backup" or a complete snap shot of the flash of my current android os and then restore it back at a later time in the same state and condition it was in just before i left it?
this is just incase i might have a remorse when i try the custom firmware.
i put a lot of time in making all the settings and adjustments just to the way i like it and i prefer not to have to do it all over again.
I have another question about the JIT software.
how many jit versions are out there?
i'm using the x10 flash tool version 0.2.6 to install the jit software on my phone. do you know what version of jit was distributed with this flash tool version?
thanks again, your time and help is very much appreciated.

i always keep several older phones for camera use, or other things so this is always a good idea.

i agree in holding off, really overclock widget should be utilizes when operating stock 1.6. anything after that 2.1 2.2 2.3 their optimized with jit or are optimized enough without it

to my knowledge is has not been tampered with by sony, cant recall if the dev had placed any se apks in theme. but it is a great rom. so is blue sparks. if going 2.1 anyway. these are roms and not just themes overlay. so should be as open source as the dev made it.

yes you can. when in xrecovery, go to back up and restore. and backup. this will save all settings, phone book, contacts text message, everything! if not happy with custom software you have installed. just go back to xrecovery>backup and restore> restore. back to 2.1 software before the custom rom
I have another question about the JIT software.

i'm using the x10 flash tool version 0.2.6 to install the jit software on my phone. do you know what version of jit was distributed with this flash tool version?
the JiT version that is with the new flashtool is JiTv2 i believe.. dont quote me on that. i believe it is as i have looked at the files in the optimizer and compared them to the copy of JiTv2 i have saved on my comp. to my knowledge, there is only two versions. again, dont quote me on it. i havent seen an chatter going on about newer versions so this might be all we get. not sure though

Sorry took so long to kget back to you. hope you catch this.
Sysctl settings really dont make large change in how fast all functions of the phone operate. most increase in performance for settings is shutdown and power on time. as well as a little better scrolling of menus.
basically running the 2.2 software from z or trip, adding the data2sd.zip will get you well into having quad scores of 2+++. if aiming for higher closer to around 3000. which i am very near doing. ill show when i have the proof not till then
anyway, getting mid 2+++ scores and higher, do require using something like set cpu or Overclock widget, in order to get your phone to run at top speed while doing the test..
after that run a test then another and so on until you have achieved what is perfect W/O for you.

i did tried the setting parameters you suggested earlier before your latest post and i found the improvement is not that noticable, but the battery did die very quick. i found the original configuration work just fine at this point.
i'm still doing some reading on the custom firmware to make sure i make the proper approach without any hickups. i still have a lot of school work to finish and a part time job so the custom firmware is moving along quite slowly.

anyway, when someone could write a very small app that just toggles stagefright for the player on and off through widget, it would be the perfect solution (until there is a real fix available - which doesn't seem to be yet)
Its really nice

Did you turn all of your mediafright settings on, or just the one with -http at the end?
I already downloaded it. I enabled hw.acceleration, but for mediafright the only one I have on is the one with the -http tag. Should I turn all on?
I'm using mVideoPlayer for videos btw. My Mobo still lags.

Whoaaa.... Chill out mate. No point trying to call people names., or accusing anyone of lying.
It's true that the Gingerbread-based ROMs (including Overcome RC1) doesn't have ext4 support so it'll make some file-intensive tasks to be slower than it is on the optimised, ext4-enabled Froyo-based firmwares.
Benchmarks, and especially synthetic benchmarks like Quadrant are slightly skewed in that area. As anyone with extensive experience with these tools will tell you, benchmark tools like these do not reflect real-world experience.
However, on non-I/O intensive based tasks, the back-end optimisations on GB does provide for a much more smoother experience. It's just not as properly optimised as the Froyo-based Overcome 1.x series yet...
... And yes, there will be someI apps that will be broken, whenever a new, major base like this is released.
Of course, the best scenario would be an overclocking/undervolting, ext4-supporting kernel for Gingerbread, of which AB86 is currently busy working on in his Batcave...
Trust me, as a person who has extensive experience with ALL Overcome ROMs and kernels, I prefer the current Gingerbread-based ROMs compared to the Froyo-based ones.
Anyway, my point is this... everybody's got their own preference and choice. Some prefer the Froyo-based ROMs/kernels over Gingerbread, just like some prefer Windows XP over Windows 7. No point trying to be fanboi-ish or militant about stuffing your choices down people's throats...
Relax and enjoy the fruits of AB86 labours...

I'm using an "old" 1.4.x overcome version and I am fully happy with.
I have no issue at all, that's why I don't upgrade to 2.x
Anyway, when google talk video will work, I'll be pleased to upgrade to 2.x, in the meantime, I have no reason to upgrade.
The other reason is the upgrade processing : I have no windowz computer, so using odin and friends is a pain in the a**.
If they released this with overcome it might have had half a chance in the market against ipad.
The difference is night and day

i have to toggle the stagefright "player" setting on and off depending on material. depending on material and setting, i think i dont realise any greater lag, even from external sd card. but i havnt watched a complete movie in 1080p.

I used heimdall under Linux with success fyi. Just need to untar the package, and choose all the correct files separately ( except Movinand.mst and hidden.rfs, no use).

Wow, 3800 on Froyo! Only made it to 2400 max. You must have been tweeking the hell out of your tab =)

1ghz 1.2ghz 1.4ghz 1.56ghz or 1.6ghz

Just wondering what you are all clocked at
and if stable.
Currently at 1.4 myself and running smooth

I don't even know how to overclock it. Does one need a custom ROM for that or does the stock one suffice? Not that it really matters, I mostly just read comics or books or watch movies on my tablet, none of which needs that much CPU.
Greece during the summer can get quite hot, so it's definitely not a friendly place for overclockers, even desktop rigs can feel the extra heat, so for me, overclocking will not happen for another 3 months minimum. Even now, at stock 3.1 the tablet can get pretty hot when playing some HD games.
I'm sure only root is required but I agree - pushing the cores for nothing more than reading, watching movies or playing already tablet optimized games seems like a pointless endeavor and certainly dangerous to the long term health of the tablet.

I am happily running mine @ 1.6 and very stable with no fc. Did have it higher @ 1.7 but had major problems with reeboots. Benchmark above taken with current rom @1.6
Try "StabilityTest" from the Market to see what your device can handle.
Mine ran 2 hours without problems on 1.5GHz but crashed after 17mins on 1.6GHz.
Running the tablet at 1.5GHz makes a big difference, everything is much more responsive and the browser is way faster.
Can you suggest me the right app to overclock my iconia? And what I have to do to set that apps? I had some doubts with options like "interactive, on demand, ...etc". Which one could give a little bit of stability? I can't find any guide on the internet to understand what these settings change, and which one is the better way to optimize our tablet.
setCPU works fine if rooted; you can also use the Virtuous method if you run one of their ROMs; check the DEV sections for more info...

Not sure setcpu works on both cores.
Use the virtuous method it is a new way to overclock and it is faster than using any app...
Lets face it anyone running a rom I am sure it is virtuous something
Thanks Trinnity66 and MJ-12. I think you've finally convinced me to root this device and run a custom ROM.

You are welcome, if you do it right you will love the difference. I use the galaxy Rom tried the 3.2 xoom. But galaxy tab Rom is so nice and very smooth
Goodluck.

just in case people doesnt know
the mainboard are stressed on a bench before go outside and get sell
put the mainboard in a OVEN (not yours at home, it's a special OVEN) then after 1 hour at something like 60 - 70 degrees running
All mainboard got an error are returned to check and fixed
but
overclocking does not give you that much improvement...
for sure optimized kernel with slight overclock are running smother than the stock stuck at 1GHz but.... when people are crying to have not enought battery... why overclocking ???? the things who use more battery is the SOC and the SCREEN....
I run for now Stock 4.010.24 with Stock Kernel (I will go back to custom firwmare when all will be ok and stable)
games are running perfectly... when they are dev for the tegra

What the hell are you babbling about and what does that even have to do with the discussion?
I don't even know if I understand you correctly since you're not even trying to make coherent sentences, but if you're referring to components on the motherboard being loose then there's WAY better ways of fixing that than throwing the whole thing in an oven of any kind. You should NEVER fry the whole motherboard just to fix one or two components that are loose, instead just apply a heatgun on those specific components. Besides, AFAIK none of the issues with A500 are related to loose parts...
His post has everyting to do with this thread and nothing about "loose parts" He is refering to the physical conditions the parts are subject to ie......Heat. Which in turn is increased by overclocking the passively cooled processor. Which is not very efficent and can easily overheat. Its ok if you don't understand plain English, but your post is obnoxious...

My english is not high but I think I was clear, proof someone understand what I was speaking about.
I forgot the most important
ARM Cortex-A9 MPCore can go between 800Mhz and 2Ghz if someone find a way to cool it, well maybe the tablet will go until 2Ghz (reducing the battery life a lot, something near of the W500 ..._)

[Q] is it safe to disable thermal throttling on G2?

hey guys
i am looking for some advice. Some of the custom kernels out there have thermal throttling disabled .
Is this safe to do ?
I mean , if i usually play for 2 hours continuous , will there be any problems ?
Or for example HD video recording ... the phone tends to get hot on stock ... but with thermal throttling i guess it will get even hotter.
So what do you say , is it ok to disable in case i sometimes play some games for 1-2 hours continuous ?
thanks

I personally wouldn't do it. You see, it is not just a matter of overheating the Snapdragon 800, but also the LCD display can get to hot. And if you destroy the display, it will cost at least half as much as the phone itself. It is probably not worth the 5 or so extra FPS. If you are serious about android gaming, take a look at Xiaomi MiPad, with the Tegra K1 it is probably the best android gaming device BY FAR.

actually i am not serious about android gaming
it's just that sometimes to pass the times i play some games . For example games like kingdom rush . And sometimes i get lost in the phone and i find myself playing 2 hours straight
the reason i am asking is because i want to use a custom rom . And almost all of them use kernels that have this option disabled
if you know a good kernel that will not crash and will not cause any problems but has thermal enabled ... pls share
I would recommend LG stock kernel, furnace kernel 2.5.1 or CloudyKernel (with CloudG3 2.0 rom for example)

also cloudyfa i know he is very appreciated for his work
but , for stock kernel . Do you known where i can get stock kernels ( rooted ) recovery flashable ?
thanks in advance

Updated adreno drivers?

I do a lot of gaming on my phone and I'm always looking for ways to improve performance and efficiency. I was under the impression that Qualcomm made the adreno drivers upgradeable but I can't seem to find out how.
Also, does anyone know any OOS11 compatible kernels that support gpu overclock? Only one I could find is radioactive that supports 670mhz but I've seen other OOS10 kernels that support higher than that. Thanks a bunch.

What are you playing that it can't run.?
I run emulators, the hardest of which would be the Wii but that runs flawlessly.
Sure there's a PS2 one out there but that's slow because it's not finished..
I'm set to see anything that would require a push from a kernel.
Magisk has upgraded drivers..
If you really must then use radioactive....totally unnecessary but there you go.
Also search for adreno in play store, there's plenty of apps to mod your drivers and such.
I'd be interested to hear what you're actually doing that requires it though.

I definitely don't require it, and you've got it right- there really isn't much you can throw at it that it can't handle, and nothing here is a need per se. I just simply like to have absolute latest and greatest just for sake of having it and that might just be me. As far as things that I have thrown at it that I wouldn't mind a couple more fps, even though at this rate is a bit of a nit-pick; Lineage II Revolution (High pop areas), Genshin impact, Ark, TauCeti, Dolphin emu wii(CODMW3, mostly) games + GC games internal res @ 1080P to be screen cast to my TV. Plus I'm a bit of a benchmark nerd ...because epeen.
Anyways, I appreciate your response and I'm always looking out for your posts as you seem to be one of the most knowledgeable out here :good:
Edit: just realized I mentioned someone named 1080P lol

Lol no worries man. I definitely get what you mean, sometimes it's nice to know you can rather then need to.
Thanks btw.
Also the adreno driver. Be nice if it was more efficient..
I'm trying to break 10 hours consistently, always lands on 9 hours with 15% left.
Currently on EX.

Exactly. Yes, efficiency is always something I'm looking for as well. There's times, especially when I'm home near the charger that I like to crank things up a bit, but always have to be careful running heavy games on the go. 3d mark wild life stress test benchmark used 10% in 20 mins!! Of course, that's not real-world use, luckily.
