Just wondering what you are all clocked at

Currently at 1.4 myself and running smooth

I don't even know how to overclock it. Does one need a custom ROM for that or does the stock one suffice? Not that it really matters, I mostly just read comics or books or watch movies on my tablet, none of which needs that much CPU.
Greece during the summer can get quite hot, so it's definitely not a friendly place for overclockers, even desktop rigs can feel the extra heat, so for me, overclocking will not happen for another 3 months minimum. Even now, at stock 3.1 the tablet can get pretty hot when playing some HD games.
I'm sure only root is required but I agree - pushing the cores for nothing more than reading, watching movies or playing already tablet optimized games seems like a pointless endeavor and certainly dangerous to the long term health of the tablet.

I am happily running mine @ 1.6 and very stable with no fc. Did have it higher @ 1.7 but had major problems with reeboots. Benchmark above taken with current rom @1.6
Try "StabilityTest" from the Market to see what your device can handle.
Mine ran 2 hours without problems on 1.5GHz but crashed after 17mins on 1.6GHz.
Running the tablet at 1.5GHz makes a big difference, everything is much more responsive and the browser is way faster.
Can you suggest me the right app to overclock my iconia? And what I have to do to set that apps? I had some doubts with options like "interactive, on demand, ...etc". Which one could give a little bit of stability? I can't find any guide on the internet to understand what these settings change, and which one is the better way to optimize our tablet.
setCPU works fine if rooted; you can also use the Virtuous method if you run one of their ROMs; check the DEV sections for more info...

Not sure setcpu works on both cores.
Use the virtuous method it is a new way to overclock and it is faster than using any app...
Lets face it anyone running a rom I am sure it is virtuous something
Thanks Trinnity66 and MJ-12. I think you've finally convinced me to root this device and run a custom ROM.

just in case people doesnt know
the mainboard are stressed on a bench before go outside and get sell
put the mainboard in a OVEN (not yours at home, it's a special OVEN) then after 1 hour at something like 60 - 70 degrees running
All mainboard got an error are returned to check and fixed
but
overclocking does not give you that much improvement...
for sure optimized kernel with slight overclock are running smother than the stock stuck at 1GHz but.... when people are crying to have not enought battery... why overclocking ???? the things who use more battery is the SOC and the SCREEN....
I run for now Stock 4.010.24 with Stock Kernel (I will go back to custom firwmare when all will be ok and stable)
games are running perfectly... when they are dev for the tegra

What the hell are you babbling about and what does that even have to do with the discussion?
I don't even know if I understand you correctly since you're not even trying to make coherent sentences, but if you're referring to components on the motherboard being loose then there's WAY better ways of fixing that than throwing the whole thing in an oven of any kind. You should NEVER fry the whole motherboard just to fix one or two components that are loose, instead just apply a heatgun on those specific components. Besides, AFAIK none of the issues with A500 are related to loose parts...
His post has everyting to do with this thread and nothing about "loose parts" He is refering to the physical conditions the parts are subject to ie......Heat. Which in turn is increased by overclocking the passively cooled processor. Which is not very efficent and can easily overheat. Its ok if you don't understand plain English, but your post is obnoxious...

I forgot the most important
ARM Cortex-A9 MPCore can go between 800Mhz and 2Ghz if someone find a way to cool it, well maybe the tablet will go until 2Ghz (reducing the battery life a lot, something near of the W500 ..._)

I am pretty sure it can be overclocked and underclocked. I have not spent any time looking at this but hopefully there is, or will be, an application available for this purpose. I'd love to actually scale the CPU down for most use then speed it back up to normal when I need it...like a profile activated type of thing, or maybe according to which applications I am using on the phone. There is something like this for Android and I have it on my Nexus One.

To answer the question, no, there's no overclocking app that works on the HD2.
Really the answer is
"Yes, write an app and overclock it!"
....but I recommend not to do this, the HTC HD2 gets hot at 1GHz when doing intensive things, like executing flash content and remember that we aren't in the summer when the external temperature reaches over 37°C.
If it gets hot with an external temperature of 14°C, imagine at 37°C.
My PhenomX4 for example is overclocked (with overvoltage) from 2.5GHz (stock) to 3.4GHz (OC) and I remember that in the summer I had to put it at 2.8GHz because it got too much hot!
Winter: 32°C(idle) - 54°C (full load)
Summer: 53-55°C (idle). I didn't want to try at full load. lol
Anyway, remember that a PC CPU has got a huge cooler on it, while the SnapDragon hasn't got it and there isn't too much heat dissipation. Remember then that the SnapDragon is a mobile CPU that is supposed to work at a low temperature (PC CPUs are supposed to work at high temps) and it is supposed to NOT reach 45-50°C, so beware!
as far as the gps question goes... i use ALK's CoPilot 8. It's only $30 and is a full featured gps app. You get free live local search, free map updates and more. If you want live traffic info it's only $20 a year.

Telenav works great for me. I use for free. If you know some one that has an unlimited sprint account u can log in using there phone number and the pw is the last 4 of of the number.
I'm be more interested in undervolting and underclocking it. The standard voltage is what is needed for ALL the processor chips to work at the speed, however most can use less than that voltage and still do the same speed and be stable.
I undervoltage my laptops and it makes them run cooler and get better battery life.

we want it to actually run at 1ghz not 890 whatever. thats the main thing about the HD2 and Nexus. I waited for this to come out so i can get it mod it and run it at its full potential.
I have my LEO in the mail now or ordered any way. cant wait to get it. I want to see win 6.5 but im a bigger fan of android. I have modded all of my phones and Im a big HTC fan. Cant wait to see what this brings.
If your worried about battery life get an extended battery. As for heat, hey small price to pay for speed increases. Unfortunately until someone actually writes an app that can cpu scale, nothing can be assumed.

it already scales to 1ghz when it needs to. It can scale quicker than the OS can start opening programs, so say it is idling at 700, you click to start a program, it is already doing 1ghz by the time you release your finger from teh link.
It would be nice to push it over 1ghz, say 1.3-1.5ghz? Just a nice thought...

Problems ? i have E8400 Oc to 4.0 ghz for every day. its 100 % stable with custom cooling .
Thats does not change the fact he is runing much more hotter and more IMPORTANT his life span is reduced very much.
hd2 cpu OC'ed that much with no cooling at all can cause great deal of hw problems in long therm. be sure in that.

let me also say that overclock is optional. there are optimizations (code is optimized for armv7-a architecture, and other optimizations), but overclock is not enabled by default. w/ my kernel mhz range is 245-998.
Also CPU is downvolted so that means minor battery usage and higher cpu life due to minor voltage.
So why are you saying something that's not true?
@JJbdoggg
@michyprima you are talking about builds ( which only have OC option enabled ) and im talking about alrady Oc'ed devices with such builds
most builds do not have it enabled by default. atleast none that Ive tested. The kernal gives the ability to do it but it isnt set till setcpu is used.
My co-worker has been running his droid fulltime overclocked and has had no problems. I highly doubt any overclocking of phones is that extreme.
If the life span of your desktop cpu is reduced then you are either one applying to much voltage or two using not enough cooling.
Heres more info just to clarify.
http://www.overclockers.com/overclockings-impact-on-cpu-life/
i see i will have to explain some facts about overcloking so everybody understand, so we stop talking nonsense.
Each CPU have its own lifetime , some of earlyer Intel sockets had its lifetime of about 100 000 work hours.
Each time you give CPU more voltage, more than he is supposed to have, he is producing more temperature which offcourse lower his lifetime by certain amount of work hours compared to planed lifetime.
You all talk some nonsense, how some of your friends uses OC HW or phones few weeks or months. if you had time to read my post precisely, you could noticed i said in long therm.
Back again to OC..using custom cooling will only make cpu stable, will not restart or overhear due to over -voltage.
and there is many more factors that is making slighty different situation in hd2 cpu compared to pc...
Negative side is that there is no cooling..only positive side is that hd2 cpu is most of time working on 200-400 mhz depending on the thing you are doing on your phone at the time.
but be sure when you use his full potential, like in multimedia (gaming, playing video ...) in that OC condition, in long therm you are risking to cause HW problems on your phone because of over voltage -missing any kind of cooling that OC 'ed cpu.
my last msg about this.
Cheers
I guess he didnt read my exact post detailing the negative effects and how to determine them... I guess its nonsense even though its factual.
Hey guys, those lucky bas*ards over at the G2 forums have a kernel with overclocking up to 2GHz.Where is the DHD version of it,huh?
Yeah,I know, such a high overclock will most probably damage our phones and battery will go completely all the way to hell, but c'mon!Don't any of you wanna try it?Plus,we get 3200+ @1,6Ghz while the G2 gets just over 3000(something like 3006) @2Ghz in quadrant!Imagine what the DHD will do with 2GHz!And we are supposed to have better quality CPUs!
So come on,dev up!
With the current UK temperatures the only benefit of having a 2Ghz overclock would be a warm hand/pocket.
As a technical exercise/project it may have some benefit, but practically what use is a DHD that will get really hot, really quick. And then the battery dies, or the thermo cut out kicks in.
I would never clock at 2ghz...that's asking for trouble and the voltage would be to risky...no one is going to make a 2ghz kernel for the DHD

I am no expert, but I can imagine overclocking to 2Ghz, if possible, will require a lot of overvolting and may seriously affect your cpu....for the worse...

Yeah it can be done...There is a 1.7ghz kernel out..(its a risky overclock so its not for download on the public forums)
You can drive a car with your feet if you want to but that doesn't make it a good idea
2ghz is twice its clock speed...if you really want 2ghz then wait for the dual cores...1.5ghz is the max safe overclock...and even then its not been tested over a long period of time.
Saying the G2 is stable at 2ghz is meaningless.....there are so many different variables, its just not that black and white.

No!
Using any CPU frequency that is not default ( underclocked or overclocked ) requires testing and manipulating the various variables. The CPU needs to be in sync with the GPU and the other parameters. Needs modifications in the kernel itself. The device is not made to run at those frequencies. You will burn your device, sooner or later.

Ok I aint joking but seriously what is the point of overclocking a Desire z/G2. Unless I am running on a slow phone I don't see the point. Stock speed never lags and i haven't seen any difference between 1.5 ghz vs 800mhz.
The only time when 1.5ghz clock speed is useful is when i running quadrant and rubbing its scores infront of my friends face.
There is any areas where you can actually see the performance difference?
bluntly, if you dont see the point of it then you don't need it.
For others, sometimes you run alot of stuff in the background and still want to be able to have your main app perform at its best level.
There is also the minute tweaking of speed and snappiness of the interface. The idea of instant reaction when you open your message app, or your email, or anything.

Fair question IMHO.
I don't see the difference when overclocking, or rather I don't feel it. Software does make a difference, but not the extra 200-500Mhz. I do feel however the battery drain
It always makes me laugh when somebody asks a legitimate question and you get silly responses like the above 2. It's as if these people feel threatened and have to justify that they are more knowledgeable than the op. The facts of the matter are most of the tweaks, mods and alterations are wholly unnecessary in the real world.
If you don't feel like it makes it better then you don't have to use it. I use it because I feel it makes everything just a little snappier and more instant. If you don't notice a difference that's fine. It's probably trivial for me to notice the little hang ups but I can't help it.
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App
For me there's several reasons. For the most part, the reason for oc is because you can. But there are practical reasons as well. For example, with the stock ROM running at 800MHz, you're stuck with that. With an oc kernel and using SetCPU or built in clock settings in CM, you can adjust it as needed. Gonna play a game? Bump it up to 1GHz or so. Done with said game? Take it back down to 800MHz. But it's not all about oc. Sometimes there's a need to underclock. Getting low on battery and don't have a charger near by and need to squeeze another hour or two out of it? Maybe take it down to 768MHz or 600MHz (if you're running Pershoot's kernel).
Dungeon Defender:
800 mHz : not fun, laggy
1.5 gHz : fun, graphic are more smooth
Reasons for using over clocking:
Because I can
Because sometimes I do notice the difference in performance of the UI and some applications (wait for Sense 3.0 etc...)
Because I also use it to underclock.
Like everything else, a lot of it is perception. My wife cannot see any difference between our normal cable channels and the HD ones. I can (or am I just trying to convince myself that I can?). Oh well.
Finally some practical and helpful responses, showing an understanding of the need for information from some people.
here's my experience when it comes to overclocking. keep in mind that, like with your computer, it does vary from user to user... so I'm making these statements from MY experience, not making blanket statements regarding all of our devices:
- if you run multiple homescreens with multiple widgets and ui "smoothness," not just aesthetically, but performance-wise as well, is of concern, mild overclocking becomes necessary.
- if you have several apps running at any given time (in background or foreground) and ui smoothness, same definition as above, is of concern, mild overclocking becomes necessary.
- if you run any iteration of a sense rom in any configuration and ui smoothness is of concern, mild overclocking becomes necessary.
- if you run PSX/N64 emulators and you don't want audio distortion or general lagginess, more aggressive (in my case, 1209 is a safe speed for maximizing performance without having a drastic effect on battery life) overclocking becomes necessary.
on AOSP builds, especially gingerbread-based, I don't think there is a necessity for more processing power than what we get from the factory if you're running a relatively slim setup and aren't using something like a PSX/N64 emulator regularly.
I run mine at 1ghz, but I did use 1.2ghz before. I do notice a slight performance difference. Overall tho I don't notice it much. I notice it more when I'm doing multiple things.
Nonsense!

I run 1.1 because it is noticably faster. Everything opens faster and works smoother. My wife has a stock G2 and when I grab it to look something up on the web or to use maps when we're out, I instantly notice how mucher slower hers is.
Works for me so I use it.
I notice a definite performance boost on mine, but it also depends on which kernel/ROM you use. I was running meXroid for a few days and found that it got extremely laggy even overclocked with Flippy's kernel built in (1.9Ghz), plus my battery was dying faster than a Chuck Norris joke. PyroMod has always been reliable for me and I flashed back to 2.0 earlier and it's just as reliable and power-saving as ever.

Yes, it is... I also found out from Angelom (creator of abyss kernel) that default standard voltage from note is a bit on the high side.
Since you have tried different kernels, i assume you are rooted. And if yes, you can use setcpu from the market and tweaked the voltage down . That was advised by user Angelom and Robertberma and until now, i don't have anymore heating problem
@ LordManhattan , Not hot but Warm.. when you leave the device in sleep and touch it you can see how cold/normal it is, and once you start using it slowly the heat will spread and yes 3d intense games make it worsen, watching flash videos through browser and stuffs like that... surprised it overheats only when you charge and play.. for me it heats up when i am not charging also..
@ bluelavender.. can you gimme a screenshot of your setup.. i do have setcpu.. but don't want to mangle with voltages without knowing much... and currently i have 2.6 angelom kernel and rocketrom v13
Haha, don't worry, it's perfectly normal.
Reasons for the heat is due to the Amoled screen. When being used for long periods it tends to get toasty...
Expecially when gaming or web browsing it gets hot...

I can't believe how much misinformation there is on this forum!
It's nothing to do with the AMOLED screen, it's the SoC. The CPU, by default, uses extraordinarily high voltages for 1.2 and 1.4ghz which can easily be toned down by 100mv and this makes a huge difference. Download Tegrak OC (on a stock kernel) or SetCPU on a custom kernel to change these settings.
Mine doesnt even go warm unless I charge and play.. this is probably the same issue with the S2 in where some units run a lot cooler than others. Just like desktop processors.

Of course it's down to the screen. As you mentioned it's also down to the cpu but screens cause heat, any screen does.
Every screen/monitor I've owned at home give out heat...
Do a simple test, play Angry Birds or any other game for a few minutes.
Then put the screen over your cheek and feel the HEAT coming from the screen.
I was on stock KKA for few days and my SGN did get hot even when doing simple task. Temperature is so much better now with stock KL7.

In my old appartment i had a iron stove with a huge stone on top. whenever i used the stove, the stone got hot!! so that must mean that the stone was the source of the heat!!
Ehm, no. It is not the screen that is the source. It is the CPU. You can just as easily heat the device with the screen off, if you press the CPU to the limit. Of course the screen gets hot, but its not the source.
Wow! Did you live in Africa to have a stove like that? Otherwise, I agree: of course it's the CPU and GPU causing the heat! It's quite obvious.

No, in norway! Used it for warming, as it tends to get cold up here in the winter!
Now back to topic
Hi guys.
I don't want to open new thread for this, so I would like to ask you here.
I also recognized the heating problem on my Samsung Galaxy Note. And I don't have to play hard games etc, I can just surf on the web and do simple stuff on it to get hot (it feels hot for me) and also starts to smell a bit like heating electronics and plastic.
I can't remember, but I think that when I got my Note, when it was stock I didn't recognize that heating issue. First ROM that I put on was Darky ROM 3.3 and it works nice (no heating). After Darky ROM I flashed ICS Stunner and there those heating issues starts, as far as I remember. Then I went back on Stock 2.3.6. and now I'm on Stock 4.0.3 Open Germany ROM. The phone also gets hot on Stock ROMs now...
Hope there is any option to fix that problem, because it started to scary and worry me.
Thanks all for any help and answer!
after rooting and using different firmwares does cause the phone to go a little warm. you need to cut the power a lil bit. i myself tried various different rom and it bothered me with the heat issue. so i reverted back to stock. but since there are new builds coming every other day you can keep trying different build to the one that suits you.

So this means that I'm destroying my device with every new flash?
Isn't that cutting of power bad for the phone?
