Android 12 - OnePlus 7T Pro 5G McLaren Questions & Answers

Does anyone have any information on when we can upgrade to Android 12? I'm running AOSIP right now and would love to switch to a custom ROM based on Android 12! I expect it to be available later this year, but was wondering if anyone has any news about it? Thanks!!!!

I wouldn't hold my breath. The 6T still hasn't even got OOS11 yet. The 7T/7T Pro/7T Pro 5G McLaren from T-Mobile is supposed to be receiving an official update to OOS12/Android 12 -- but considering the beyond ridiculous delay for the 6T and OOS11, we'll be extremely lucky if we get OOS12 within the next 12 months. We will get it eventually, but that will be the final major version update. Phone released with OOS10, so that's 2 major releases it will be receiving, along with 12 more months of security updates.

Good deal, and yeah I've been following the OnePlus 6T release too

Just upgraded to the final release of Android 12. A bit of a strange question but does anyone know what the finger floating widget on the right is and how to remove it?

Will we get Nougat 7.0?!

LG have announced V20 will be released next month with 7.0 so this means we will definitely get 7.0 as well?
http://www.xda-developers.com/lg-of...to-come-in-september-with-android-7-0-nougat/
No it doesn't mean gonna get anything above 6.0
V20 is a new phone and it will come with 7.0 preinstalled and stuck with 7.0 for quite a while if I judge from LG's current update policy. Wait for an official 7.0 device update list from LG. Only then we will know if we gonna get it. Even if we will get it's going to take a lot of months. LG is not even updating G4 for security updates. I'm stuck with January security patches. So If I judge from all this I can't be very optimistic. In any case look forward for the official LG device update list. Should be out in 1 or 2 months.

They do, I'm on carrier unlocked 815 and I received OTA with June security patch a month ago. I was assuming this because there's 18 months policy to support the device and we still have 2 months left, so for example if Google will announce 7.0 in September we will still have 1-2 months left, they did release 6.0 for G4 in similar period of time.

Your phone is just one of the many variants this phone has in many countries. I'm on the open EU one and I'm still on January patch. No OTA since then. Nougat is releasing this month. In few days according to the leaks. That's why V20 will come with 7.0 bcz the final 7.0 will be already out. In priority list must be LG G5 and V10 and then G4. We can only hope we will get 7.0. But until I see an official LG device update list I'm not expecting anything.

Yes for sure, that's why I never understood this '18 months support' policy, they must change it for 2 major OS releases guaranteed instead... Because one year Google might release new OS in August, next year in October etc. And it depends a lot on device release date as well. In general I agree with you that update policy sucks a lot, not just for LG but for all manufacturers.

LG is a bit worse than others according to my personal experience. That 18 months period doesn't make any sense. It should be 2 years at least. Unofficiall it can extend beyond that. There is just no guarantee. You may get an update after those 18 months or you may not. The only devices that guarantee you with timely system updates are Nexus and iPhones. iPhones have the longest support. Nexus have unofficial long support beyond those 18 months via custom roms. For all the rest you are at the mercy of the OEM. As for our device we should get 7.0 but nothing is certain. Let's just wait for LG to tell us their plans for the G4.

P.S. LG actually did update G3 with 6.0 February security patch and until July it had newer security patch than G4 LOL, even though 18 months passed in December 2015, although for some reason it wasn't available via OTA so I had to install LG update tool in order to get it.
By the way, have you tried LG Bridge to check whether there's an update available?
yes G4 get i think 15 december-16 april betwen the date
i hope so.. i think 5.02 and MM shouldnt exist LP has bugs and MM doze not kickinng while movemnet ..

Doze isn't supposed to work with movement. It works when the phone is still and the sensors show no movement. This is by design.
I don't know how much better doze will be, the standby on LP is already pretty good.
4-6% loss over 12 hours ?
I personally think we would get Android Nougat, only because of LG's update pattern.
Each Flagship goes on this pattern:
OTB OS & Second Sort of Big Update (not too many new UX features, but new android version) are within LG's 18 month support, and then there is a 3rd update which is the major update, which usually updates UX, Android Version, and adds a lot of new features.
Because of this pattern, the G4 should have one more major update before we stick to custom roms/security patch updates.
http://www.bing.com/news/apiclick.a...n-2016/165569&c=4819151737868183870&mkt=en-us LG has released several smartphones this year, but it is likely to release Android N first to LG G5. It is also speculated to bring the new firmware upgrade to LG V10 and LG G4 this year.

such as memory leaks, ram management. they were fixed on 5.1.1
then its useless most people walk or move you know..and carry their phone with them..i think this is nice feature only if it kicks in earlier and while movement...
yes standby on LP is good i dont know why they made doze.. i get 10 hour stand by either LP or MM 0%
G2 was released with 4.2, and got upgraded to 4.4 and 5.0
G3 was released with 4.4, and got upgraded to 5.0 and 6.0
G4 was released with 5.1, and got upgraded to 6.0 and probably will get an upgrade to 7.0, I think.

Doze is super effective. I lost only a few percent in a full day (24hrs) and I didn't have access to my phone. Nougat will be even better because it will be more aggressive, the phone won't need to be still for it to kick in, and it should kick in faster. Nougat will come, but I am not holding my breath for this year. Probably early 2017. Note they need to figure out how to conserve battery with the screen ON. 3Hr SOT doesn't cut it...

Exactly! The phone won't have to be still in Nougat for Doze to kick in.
The LG G5 will get 7.0 on December 2016, the LG G4 will get it on February 2017 apparently.

Beta builds and the T-mobile variant

I'm new to oneplus, I want to get this phone through T-mobile because of the awesome bill credits on my old Pixel XL
I'm no longer really into rooting and roming but I do often flash the beta software to my pixel xl.
My question is how long is it typically between beta builds and the final software being released.
I want to know what kind of wait I'm signing myself up for if I go with the T-mobile version.
thanks,

Unfortunately they will not give tmobile users a beta build.
I know they won't give beta builds, that's why I'm asking how long is it usually between beta builds and full releases? so I have some idea how long I'll be waiting for new software.
In your case, I would go with the non T-Mobile version, but it's your call.
OnePlus releases both beta and stable builds concurrently, but beta builds get updated faster.
T-Mobile tends to y take longer fit updates as it goes through more tests and certifications before they push it out. I know OnePlus is in talks with T-Mobile to see if they can afford up their certification process.

One UI Exynos?

Will there be a ONE UI beta for the Exynos version? I really wanna try it out
in few months i think
February Sometime we should expect to see Beta/Release.
If you're into early release be careful. Oreo was a shambles

How long will we get updates?

Now that the OP7 is officially announced, is there a time limit on O/S updates to our OP5's?
Alan
I don't have any official statement regarding OxygenOS, but if you use LineageOS, the Oneplus One, 2 and 3 are still supported so I can't imagine support for 5 flailing anytime soon: https://download.lineageos.org/ <-- (Oneplus One updates as recent as today)
I am in China, my oneplus 5 will receive updates almost every week.:伊克:
He's probably referring to the Oxygen OS updates. Community based ROMs will get support for some time to come. I think I recall OP promised 2 major updates, so OOS might see Q for OP5/T, but don't take my word on it.
I think we will not get an official update with Android Q, but the monthly security updates should be continue for another year or so at least I imagine? Just guessing.

Best bet, ask OnePlus themselves instead of all of this speculation.
So it seems Android Q will come to OP5: https://www.androidpolice.com/2019/...d-zen-mode-from-7-pro-but-not-nightscape-2-0/

Android Q update
We have already released Android Q Developer Preview on the forum for the OnePlus 7 Pro and OnePlus 6/6T, available. For those wondering, rest assured: Android Q will also make its way to the OnePlus 5 and 5T. Just remember, there are no ETAs.

We may can get Android 10 (Q) update?

What you think people?
Technically speaking, the 2 years of updates that "Android One" promises will be fulfilled shortly in September, so neither Xiaomi nor Google are committed to launch Android Q for the Mi A1, which might take it out? Well, I don't know, the Mi A1 is still a great phone, but as I said before, the 2 years just end in September
Probably if we see the Android Q will be in Custom Roms that in my opinion offer you a better experience in every way compared to the Stock ROM
If we talk about 2 years then the phone was launched on 5 September and Android q comes comes on 3 September so, technically we should get
I would not get your hopes high. The 2 years of promised updates i dont believe they match with the initial release of the said OS, they are 2 years of updates they are released when Xiaomi releases them to the public. Pretty much the same as saying we can seriously expect 2 major android updates in the said period which we already got: A1 was released with Nougat (7.0) out of the box and in those 2 years we got Oreo (8.0) and Pie (9.0). And with new One devices in their portfolio they most likely will prioritize them over such our oldie A1. Anyway if we get 10, cool then. Otherwise we have to get it from custom roms such as Lineage as others like.
Hopefully it won't be buggy like Oreo or Pie and have no way to rollback easily.

That's what I've been thinking since I've got the phone!
I don't think of getting Android 10 on our Mi A1. Buy fortunately web could try It on custom roms. It's been 1 year I use Pixel Experience custom rom. Used stock Onlus for 1 month.

When the Oreo 8.0 update was released, it was pulled due to bugs. Features like high impendance headphone support got broken. Oreo 8.1 update was also pulled because of data loss and safetynet not working. Then the Pie update also broke wifi, BT, 4G and got pulled.
Xiaomi doesn't have a good track record when it comes to major Android updates.

A1 a priori cannot get android 10. The support period has ended, there are only security patches. And in order to run android 10 on A1, you need to run beta testing - what to do cannot, because the beta test team has been disbanded. And updates with corrections and upgrades to the android version will no longer be. Only security patches will remain. And about Android 10 - you can forget, and not hope. Only custom roms.
But can we get in custom rom?

As you're seeing now... We could get something almost pure if we switch our device to Treble... People is starting to build GSI images with Android 10 for Tissot.
Official 10 - NO.
However we still have decent dev and community so we are going to get Unofficial 10 for sure
