Hello!
I want to use my old Galaxy SII for banking apps or apps in general that require a non modded phone, as they often make problems on my rooted Galaxy S7.
Can you please give me a hint what ROM I should install that
1. is the most recent one in terms of security updates / maybe also android version as maybe some apps won't work anymore with old kitkat android
2. passes all security checks, so either way it is official or modded but has working magisk hide function etc
Thank you very much!!
I kinda doubt you'll get banking apps working on the S2 with any ROM as:
1. Stock Jelly Bean is too old (API level no longer supported)
2. Custom ROMs fail safety net.
Your only remote chance is with LineageOS 16.0 and Magisk:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s2/development-derivatives/pie-i9100-t3850588
And this is assuming that you have the i9100 or one of the sub-variants. You'll be even more out of luck with anything else...
Thank you very much, then I'll go for Lineage OS. Yes, I have the I9100 model.
How did you get on with this? Were you able to get your banking app to work?

You need to flash lineageos from post above. Than flash magisk, install magisk apk, hide magisk. Now u can use banking apps.

Sorry for late answer. Yes it worked, no additional google apps needed. Just Lineage + Magisk. All different kind of banking apps work.

How does LOS 16 run on this phone? It's pretty beefy all things considered. Is it possible to use a custom partition map to get rid of that god awful 10GB "internal sd card"

Hi there, I'm no new to development, but haven't played with a phone in a while.
Can someone please tell me what the disadvantages of rooting the Nexus 6p are?
My plan is to get root access only to use specific apps (eg greenify) but not to install a new ROM, i.e. I'll stay with stock.
Does this affect:
-Applicability of OTA updates from Google
-ability to use the fingerprint reader
-warranty claims
-speed/stability of the device?
Thanks in advance!

-OTA are not possible when rooted. You have to flash back stock boot.img and recovery.img to accept an OTA.
-It does not interfere with Nexus Imprint (Fingerprint reader.)
-Does not affect speed or stability
-Warranty is not affected because you can flash stock imgs and relock bootloader.
You can take OTA's if you do the systemless-root. I believe you would have to flash the recovery back to stock, though.
I think you have to flash boot as well since it's modified.
the biggest disadvantage is your device become instantly awesome, so if you are used to being annoyed about the stock OS missing features this is hard to deal with
But honestly the best thing about owning a nexus is you can root and easily go back to stock if you change your mind. The flash images are also easily available for updates (even before the OTA is out). So play with it, and worst case you can always restore back to stock.
currently my only disadvantage to me is loosing android pay...
yea i know i can make it work if i delete /su/xbin... but i feel like its there for a reason and i shouldnt be deleting it.

i have been using systemless root since v 2.61... im using 2.66 now
and android pay didnt work, and even wont pass safetynet test
delete the /su/xbin folder and it passes safetynet and android pay works...
so yes, for me it sucks that i have delete that to make AP to work... which is why for now i am giving up AP since i dont feel comfortable deleting xbin and breaking stuff
Mine passes safetynet test and is just systemless with nothing deleted. No Android Pay in the UK to test it with though.
Not being awesome.

Can I use Xposed with systemless root?
Thanks for the replies everyone - that was very helpful. I've gone ahead and installed three sustemless root, and installed xposed too, leaving the rom itself untouched as stock.
However, my system is disappointingly buggy. Apps keep crashing. Is this common? I thought this was supposed to be a stable/safe thing to do!

lol this seems to happen when you root and install Xposed or pretty much modify anything. Usually I see a decrease in stability and battery life but an increase in performance, and you get to play with new features early.
I'm contemplating rooting just to use the new launcher.

You have a couple of things going on.
First root IS as safe as you let it be. If you haven't installed any root applications it should not be any more buggy than stock.
You have installed Xposed. You have not mentioned what modules you have.
I don't have any issues you describe but I don't have a lot of modules installed.
I am stock with Xposed and root.

Just got this tablet today for around the house use light gaming watching YouTube and reading books on it but i can't find any info on this thing and what I do find is conflicting box says 1.00ghz on the 8inch website says 1.30ghz and a completely different cpu, mines manufacturer date was a month ago so I thought I had the latest model it has android 6.0 on it from the factory
Question is its pretty slow in basic games and Web browsing etc is there any info on rooting this or installing a rom allowing over clocking, I'd like to get the performance up a bit if possible.. I have noticed it cuts all cores off but one during some tasks and makes it come to a stand still almost so if I could root just to stop that I'd be happy
Kingroot, maybe?
https://kingroot.net/
I'd be hesitant, though; since it doesn't seem like there's any TWRP - and you'd def want a backup of the system before you root, or OTAs will be a nope.
kingroot failed, requested root and it shows 1 request so i doubt there is any root available for it right now its too new

Kingo Root
Have you tried Kingo Root (via kingoapp.com)?
I was able to rooot my TB3-710F (Android 5.0.1 lollipop) with their windows version after a few attempts. Not sure if there was a trick to it or not. Have flashed back to stock and will try again to see if I can repeat.
Android 6.0 probably fixed most known exploits.

Did u manage to get CWM or TWRP?
I had no problems with kingroot , it work very well and has a nice utility app to remove the bloatware etc. download it from the link in this forum here , because there seem to have many weird places who claim to have the latest and best one.. here is the link in the forum :

Any news? Does smb succeed with TWRP or root on device?
Hi All,
This is perfect thread, I was trying to find info on this Tablet, and there is hardly anything about it...
Has anyone managed to find / know, or get TWRP or CWM onto this device yet?? I was planning on picking one up tomorrow, but it all depends if there is a Custom Recovery available for it....
I see there is a custom recovery available for last years smaller 7" brother Tablet.... Please, let it be so....
Cheers, Lister

On my TB3-850F I notice that Lenovo doesn't really add bloat to begin with. The non-standard apps can simply be uninstalled in the usual way. After years of using Samsung (Note, Note II, Tab 2) this is a refreshing change for me (on Samsung stock ROM the "extra" apps are baked in and can be frozen but not truly uninstalled; OK you can kind of uninstall them with 3C or Titanium but you can't actually reclaim any space so you might as well just freeze them).
Anyway I think a pre-rooted stock ROM is a good idea as there is no Chainfire Auto Root or similar yet and from the other forum posts on this device it's clear that people struggle when using adb and fastboot and TWRP if they are not already familiar with these kinds of tools and environments.

Lenovo is certainly more sparing on the bloat than manufacturers like Samsung for sure, not to mention all the bloat that comes pre-installed on the bulk of carrier branded devices. There are several Google related applications, however, which are baked in. With deodexing, lib removals, app data and app cache, I have been able to free up nearly 500 MB of space, leaving the end user with a bare bones Google infrastructure -- Google Play Services, Framework, Play Store, etc. More and more Android enthusiasts are becoming focused on privacy, and are steering away from all the Google centered applications.
Yeah on root I'm including a patched boot image for full systemless root support, using @Chainfire's SuperSU v2.79 TWRP flashable zip. I've made a couple of stability tweaks to the TWRP custom recovery already available for this tablet as well.
Oh, keep in mind on this particular MTK Board Platform and partitioning index, the /system image partition is allotted to 3.0GB. With bloat removed and some cleanup, the /system partition can be re-sized to 2.3GB using ext4fs, leaving 700MB to be carried back over to the /data partition.

Hi,
Phone: Moto G4 Plus(32GB)
TWRP + Magisk + Xposed + Elementalx : Is this a gud idea?
Is Magisk Hide effective enough to use Banking apps in rooted phones?
Whats safetynet exactly. What does it mean that its pass?
Its expected that Moto G4 Plus will get Oreo Update.
Will the Update be available if device is rooted with Magisk?
Is there a blog that any body has used to do this on their Moto G4 plus and has successfully worked with everything working without any issues?
can you give me the link to that step by step blog/forum which you used?
There were too many blogs/forums about this and there is a reply in each one them saying that their phone is bricked now. Dont want to take that risk.
Does anybody have a perfect/absolutely amazing blog with step by step guide.
This is my primary phone.
Your help will be much appreciated.

Not good idea,
Correct order,
TWRP > Custom kernel > Magisk . (Done.)
Don't flash Xposed if you want to use banking apps, it will break safetynet.

Safetynet is term that is related to safety,
If your device passes safetynet then it's secure, banking apps and others will work fine,
But if safetynet fails, then your device is unsecured, banking and related apps may not work..

Check Guides section for Unlocking and flashing TWRP,
And follow LATEST guide for rooting (older thread/information for rooting can brick your device)
And if you are finding XPOSED + Safetynet Pass + Banking apps, then not possible..
Hello there,
I too am using Moto G4 32GB Dual SIM (XT1643) as a daily driver and I am using a Custom ROM i.e. HAVOC which is an Android 8.1.0 Oreo based ROM. I am using Magisk and TWRP and banking apps like SBI anywhere, Kotak App are working flawlessly. I have not tested Google Tez though.
Even when I had the stock ROM, I rooted it using Magisk and Installed ElementalX Kernel via TWRP. I followed steps from XDA itself, used this link:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-g4-plus/themes/g4-g4-plus-how-to-install-magisk-pass-t3551896
And as per your question on SafetyNet, it is basically a security check for android developers so that they can verify that the phone is not rigged or rooted or modified. In order for every developer to write their own code to go through various checks to check the integrity of the phone, google provided SafetyNet an easy to implement feature for developers. For more on SafetyNet, visit this website.:
https://www.nowsecure.com/blog/2017/08/03/android-apps-google-safetynet-attestation-api/
And as far as Magisk is concerned, I personally prefer Magisk over any other rooting solution, there are more than one reasons for that. Mainly I that I play Pokemon Go, so Magisk does it's job very well hiding my device status from Pokemon Go.
For difference between Magisk and SuperSu, here is the link:
https://www.xda-developers.com/magisk-vs-supersu/
You can install OTA updates with MAGISK easily, just need to install STOCK kernel and Uninstall Magisk.
I've never used XPOSED on my device, so I cannot help you with that.
And you may know this already, but I will tell you just in case you don't, In order to root your phone or install custom recovery, you need to unlock bootloader and then install custom recovery like TWRP.
To unlock your bootloader, visit:
Motorola - Unlock Bootloader
And Finally, I hope you know what you're doing. Follow the steps carefully and always read comments and user reviews before doing anything at all.
Happy Rooting
Maybe Wait till OREO OTA comes
I asked this because these two links kind of suggested that it was possible.
https://www.reddit.com/r/nexus5x/comments/5wdb27/does_elementalx_kernel_break_safety_net/
https://www.xda-developers.com/systemless-xposed-android-oreo-available-pass-safetynet/
I may be wrong.
Maybe i should wait for Oreo OTA to come and then decide.
Magisk Xposed is not working, I tried both the version of Xposed but phone doesn't boot at all. So in short, Root with Magisk + banking apps is possible, but root with Magisk+Xposed (even Magisk xposed)+banking apps is not possible as of now.
I tried Sandhook and Yahfa, both are not working.
First of my phone is OnePlus 6T, got it 3-4 days after it's release, so it has a mileage.
I've been looking around and trying to figure out is there a way to use banking apps on Custom ROMs, because I'm so sick of OxygenOS and all of it's bugs. I'm someone who heavily depends on banking apps, but I'm also someone who is very much frustrated with OnePlus and all of it's flaws and their treatment of their phones and users.
So my question is, what is it like to use banking apps and any other apps that check if the phone is rooted or not?
I'll be honest I don't use apps for much. My banks website can do pretty much everything I need to do anyways. However since no one chimed in, this has been my experience. I have had to use my banks app once to deposit a check. It did work without issue. The only thing I did was hid it in Magisk (I pass safety net using Magisk Hide Props Module).
Rooted or not, once you go to a custom rom your experience will vary depending on the app. It seems to be for many just hiding root is enough. Sometimes it's denying phone permissions. You're likely going to have some trial and error depending on the app. For most though it will just work if you hide them. Worst case you just go back to stock and you are no worse off than now.
I use custom roms but generally I dont keep a rooted rom..
Once checked with rootbeer as clean all my banking apps work and I have a LOT of them.

I run stock but others here can probably help you with hiding the rooting.
Pie a great OS, reasonably secure, no scoped storage and better supports 3rd party app functionality. I have two stock N10+'s, one running on Pie the other on 10. I prefer the one running on Pie. The 10 variant has a few new tricks but Karma Firewall's valuable logging feature is disabled by it.
Neither phone will likely ever be updated... that's what I think of Android 11 and 12; not much and nothing good.
Try some of the similar Samsung phone forums (Note 9, 10 as well as popular midrange models) here to find solutions for cloaking root.
