On past roms I used, there was an option to disable screen turning on when USB was connected/disconnected, including for charging.
Can't find that option on OOS.
Thanks.

This behavior started last night after activating Monitor power usage in the battery settings section. Deactivating it didnt help. I tried removing battery and that has not worked either. Im down to going back to stock or maybe even reinstalling an earlier Miui backup I have to see if that works first. Any advice would be appeciated, thanks.

And what's the problem with the screen turning on when you connect usb? It's normal and it also happens in stock roms.
I don't know if it's the same thing, but something similar happened to me too. What i did was just cleaning the micro-usb connector on the bottom of the phone. This never happened to me anymore.

you just created a connection between 2 pins in the connector, the same as when you plug in the charger, its normal behaviour, dont worry about it.
Go into Application settings (or Development, can't remember where it is on MIUI) and turn off "keep screen awake". It's for developers who don't want the phone to sleep while debugging.
Ok I think I finally found what was causing this. It only happens when USB debugging is turned off. When I turn it back on Im able to charge without the phone automatically booting back up. Im not sure if this is a bug. Should it be behaving like this?

Verrified that and its turned off. Turning debugging mode off causes my issue though. I find that kinda wierd.
USB debugging mode has always been weird on MIUI - on my GS2 it doesn't recognise that the USB cable has been disconnected until you reboot the phone.
Thanks for the tip, I've been wondering the same thing myself. This was a pain when I was trying to charge my phone at work with it off. Thanks.
PS: I really wish people would properly read the post before answering with the standard "it's normal, don't worry about it" etc. See it far too often.
Havnt been able to find a fix so far. What I do is I keep debugging mode off for everyday use and just turn it on when I need to recharge the phone over night. That way the phone stays off.
Hello,
I tried searching around the forums but was unable to find a similar problem, so let me describe the problem:
Plug USB3.0 cable into the phone to charge overnight.
Screen immediately lights up because of the charge connection, I press the power button to turn off the screen
Upon returning a few hours later or the next morning the phone screen is on (all night long)
I have the following settings on the phone:
screen timeout set to 15 seconds
"Stay Awake, Screen will never sleep while charging" is turned off under developer options
phone is NOT rooted
Any other ideas on what's going on here? Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

I have Noticed this behavior as well,
Funny thing tho... I clicked "stay awake" in developer options... then do the same as you... plug in the charger, turn off the screen... and now it stays off :silly:

Interesting, I tried what you suggest...Anytime I get a text the screen does come back on and it now stays on so this doesn't quite do the trick for me.
Thanks!
Mine stays off...sounds like maybe a rogue process. Check and see what has the longest process runtime...If it's a user installed app delete it. That doesn't I'd say factory rest

I was getting this behavior, the screen was turning on and off (basically flashing) when I got a text message. I finally uninstalled Textra and that resolved it.
I haven't tried another 3rd party text app, yet.
My phone Screen stays awake all-night what can I do to fix it ?
What did you do to break it?
Presuming this is new behavior, what did you add or remove?

I have been trying for a few days now to see why this is happening:
I want the phone set so it does not go to lock or shut off during charging. I have the "keep the phone on while charging button set, I turned off security and lock for the phone.
I just noticed yesterday that my screen will stay on while the phone is "wired" charging. However, when I charge the phone with the wireless charger. the screen turns off. Is it just me having this issue? Am I missing a setting somewhere?
Try in developer menu never turn off when charging
Already did that
So I have a brand spanking new Moto X Pure. Its stock and fully up to date. Only "mods" I've done are to enable Developer Options and USB debugging.
However, whenever I connect it, my computer device manager (OpenSuse 13.2) freaks out as it appears that the phone is toggling between a usb device and not, so my device notifier pops up, then closes, then pops up until I unplug it.
There is an option under "Developer Options to set the USB Configuration. The default is MTP, which causes the behaviour described above. I can change it to charging only and the device notifications stop. ( see first attachment, Screenshot_20160505-102926.png )
The quick fix for this is to set the USB Configuration to "Charging Only", which is just fine. ( see second attachment, Screenshot_20160505-104003.png )
However, Every time I unplug the phone, the mode is reset to MTP.
Has anyone else experienced this? Is there a way to permanently set it? Any way to fix the device popups?
Note that if I disable USB debugging and leave it in MTP mode, it functions normally.
do you need USB debugging enabled all the time?
PS: No there is no way to set it permanently...
My Sprint S8 goes ding then turns the screen on whenever I plug it in to charge. Any way to turn this off? I have screen always on turned to off in both the Developer Options and Display settings.

Darn, thanks for clearing that up.
