From time to time, i'm unable to turn on or off WiFi.
At first I thought it must have been because I was connected to my PC with the USB cable, but now its unplugged and it's greyed out in the "on" position. Other times when its greyed out in the off position I've had to go into the settings and activate WLAN manually.
Has anyone else encountered this before?
I got that as well. It worked when i soft reset the phone.
If this happens AFTER you have unplugged from the pc, seems like a freeze of ActiveSync...
Whenever I plug my Vibrant in my computer makes the usb sound to let you know it's connected. However when I go to check the removable hardware, the Drive "I" that showed up when I plugged my phone in says "please insert etc..etc"
I'm trying to transfer movies and songs on the internal instead of the tiny 2gb card.
Oh yeah, and when I check on device manager, it shows Samsung SGH on there...
I'm confused, can somebody please help
Try and put the phone in download mode, both up and down volume buttons and power button, hold both until vibrant screen flashes twice then let go as soon as second vibrant screen appears. Plug USB into phone while phone is in recovery mode, it should automatically install correct drivers while in this mode.
mine did this yesterday. WOuld show connected on my phone, id click mount, but nothing happened. So I restarted phone and computer. All is well now..
Go to Settings > About Phone > USB Settings > and turn on Mass Storage.
Hi everyone,
Recently, I tried to get my phone to tether using these directions: (can't post the link yet, but these directions are kind of universal)
2-On the phone, go to keypad and dial ##634#, then press the [Call] button.
3- A diagnostic mode screen in gray will show up.
4- Dial *#7284#, and press the [Call] button.
5- A Microsoft USB Test screen will show up which allows configuration of USB Path Control settings (options available is Zune Sync; Modem, Tethered Call; and Modem, USB Diag).
6- Select Modem, Tethered Call.
7- The phone will automatically restart to activate the setting.
8- Connect the phone to PC with a USB cable.
..and so on and so forth
However, when I tried to put it back to the zune/sync, it wouldn't work. I go back to the menu where it gives me the three choices of zune; tethering; and USB modem, and it shows that the phone is on the Zune sync option. However, when I plug in the USB cable into it, the computer doesn't recognize it - there's no charging involved, and the zune software doesn't open.
Additionally, when I try charging it to the plug that came with the package, the phone doesn't recognize that it's connected to that either and it still doesn't charge. Does anyone know what the issue is here?
I've tried multiple times to go back to the Path Control Settings menu and switch it to Zune Sync but nothing is happening to remedy the situation. Any pointers?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance!
A long shot but did you by chance set the Zune software to sync wireless ? You may need to set it to No or turn off wirless Sync.
Settings>Phone>Wireless Sync
Make sure your phone is connected and sign into Zune. Again only a long shot.
I'm 99.9% sure I didn't set it to wireless sync. I turned off the wireless on my phone to conserve battery as well.
Also, in order to check the wireless sync setting I need to connect my phone, which I have, but the computer nor the phone has registered the connection. (No sound made on either end, and the battery charge icon isn't showing)
Thanks though! A long shot is still a shot!
edit: FYI, I'm running Windows 7 64-bit. I'm not sure if that had anything to do with mucking up my phone as it did...
This sounds pretty strange. I have been changing from Modem to Zune back and forth and no problems at all.
I guess a Hard Reset will do the job for you. But I am not completely sure. Good luck.

Do I understand correctly that you cannot charge the phone with the wall charger?
If that's the case, it's probably an issue with your cord or the mini usb port.
Did you make any other changes while in Diagnostic mode? If you're not sure, check out this thread.

Yes, you understood correctly. I cannot charge the phone with the wall charger. It's the charger that came with it, so it's the charger that has a USB port. I've also tried using different USB cords unsuccessfully. :-/
I haven't made any other changes while in Diagnostic mode.
A hard reset is a last resort. Although I'd still want to figure out why it happened as opposed to just figuring out how to fix it to prevent something like this in the future.
Thanks guys!

I think the mini USB socket on your phone may be defective. Fortunately, the setup following a hard reset isn't nearly the task it was on WM...
So I tried a hard reset, and the thing still didn't work.
I'm assuming this is a hardware problem. Thankfully AT&T has the whole 30 day exchange thing going on.
They couldn't fix it there, so they did exchange it for a new one. The new one works. So yay!
Thanks for all your input peoples!
2.3.4 - unlocked/rooted
Tried several PCs/Macbook. Tried several cables...
Plug the phone into USB and it charges but isn't recognised by the PC/Mac and phone does not recognise it's connected to USB.
Also, power off phone when it's connected to USB it hangs just before powerdown. Progress stops spinning and it sits hung. Unplug USB at this hung point and it powers down immediately.
Boot into recovery mode (Power/Volume up) and connect to USB - Reboot bootloader still not recognised by PC.
In recovery choose Power off whilst USB connected, again it just hangs - 'POWER OFF' highlighted in blue to confirm selection, but phone just hangs at that point unti USB disconnected, at which point it powers down immediately. It will reboot if you choose reboot option from recovery menu...
My phone won't transfer data but charges too. Except mines is a hardware issue. Dropped the phone on its USB port while plugged in. All loose now
Sent from my Nexus S 4G using xda premium
Installed cyan rom. No difference.
Phone still won't shutdown when USB plugged in. As soon as you remove USB down she goes immediately, so as I suspected it's deeper than a ROM issue.
Boot phone into standard recovery mode with USB plugged in, Choose reboot bootloader, info messages displayed
USB Control Init
USB Control Init End
Top line shows 'FASTBOOT MODE'
Still not recognised by PC/Mac.
'ADB devices' shows no devices.
'fastboot devices' shows no devices
Searching around this seems to be a 'known' issue, but the fixes I've seen documented say power down phone whilst plugged into USB, which obviously I can't do as it hangs.
PITA this as I use it as an app development phone
I've successfully rooted my V20. The USB debugging icon worked like it should (appearing when plugged into the PC and disappearing otherwise).
Today, after unplugging it from the PC (transferring files), the debug icon stayed (along with the option to change the USB options.
I have rebooted it 2x, and it still stayed in the notifications, even though it's unplugged. I only found one site with a suggestion of removing the SD card and rebooting, but I have no SD card in it.
Any thoughts on how to get this to go away?
