I've successfully rooted my V20. The USB debugging icon worked like it should (appearing when plugged into the PC and disappearing otherwise).
Today, after unplugging it from the PC (transferring files), the debug icon stayed (along with the option to change the USB options.
I have rebooted it 2x, and it still stayed in the notifications, even though it's unplugged. I only found one site with a suggestion of removing the SD card and rebooting, but I have no SD card in it.
Any thoughts on how to get this to go away?

Whenever I plug my Vibrant in my computer makes the usb sound to let you know it's connected. However when I go to check the removable hardware, the Drive "I" that showed up when I plugged my phone in says "please insert etc..etc"
I'm trying to transfer movies and songs on the internal instead of the tiny 2gb card.
Oh yeah, and when I check on device manager, it shows Samsung SGH on there...
I'm confused, can somebody please help
Try and put the phone in download mode, both up and down volume buttons and power button, hold both until vibrant screen flashes twice then let go as soon as second vibrant screen appears. Plug USB into phone while phone is in recovery mode, it should automatically install correct drivers while in this mode.
mine did this yesterday. WOuld show connected on my phone, id click mount, but nothing happened. So I restarted phone and computer. All is well now..
Go to Settings > About Phone > USB Settings > and turn on Mass Storage.
So about 2 days ago I threw some songs onto my DX and ever since, it won't let me change usb mode back to charge only. It says it's set to charge only but when I plug it into the pc usb port I can browse as if it were mass storage. This is a problem because I've lost pictures and songs in the past by having it set to this option. It also takes forever to scan the entire 20GBs of storage I have on there after each disconnect making my phone pretty much unusable for an hour. Anyone know where else I can set the USB mode aside from the drop-down?
I had a problem with the phone never being able to be set to Charge Only and I finally figured out what it was.
I had WinAmp installed on my phone and there is an option to auto-mount when USB is connected, this setting takes effect even if the phone is set to Charge Only.
So if you have WinAmp, or another program that does an auto-mount on USB connect, find out which program it is, and un-set the option
Didn't want to make a mess of this issue but I had noticed this since the OTA Froyo update...
i had the same problem but mine was a bad usb cable
So I don't have winamp....and the stupid phone corrupted my entire sd card and froze repeatedly. I used recuva to get everything back and it seems to be working ok. I haven't plugged it into a pc yet.

...also the phone woke me a up a few times during the night with music. I think it's posessed!
Hi.
Last week I noticed that my I9000 running CM9 has no charging symbol on the indicator. Then I tried to shut down the phone and just charge it turned off, but it immediately booted itself to OS when I connected the cable. When I connected it to computer it just charged without charging symbol and nothing happened. Computer didn't detect it, and the phone also did not detect the computer.
Then I tried to wipe everything (data, cache, dalvik cache) and flashing a new CM10 rom (I had to transfer .zip to phone via bluetooth ) . I also cleaned the connector with alcohol and checked the leads on PCB and everything seems fine. But it still doesn't work.
This morning when I connected it to computer it recognized it and phone asked me to choose USB mass storage. But after few seconds the computer reported malfunctioning USB device. After I disconnected the cable charging symbol remained on like it's still connected. Then I rebooted the phone and again there is no charging symbol and no communication with computer. I also tried few other USB cables (another samsung, SE, nokia...)
Is there anything else I can try or should I start saving the money for a new phone?

If you connect it to your pc in download mode, does Odin recognize it?

No. Nothing happens. I also can't find it in device manager.
Sounds like it might be borked alright. Though if it's still charging then at least you won't have to rush out and by a new phone. Try removing your microsd card and formatting your internal storage, before you connect it. Long shot, but it might work :-/
I haven't connected the phone to pc in quite a while tbh, I usually just download the latest version of Cyanogenmod straight from the browser to update, and use dropbox to send any files I need from my PC. e.g. new songs, videos etc. Though obviously if I was reloading all my music/videos I'd need the usb connection to work.
So I came back from vacation (with a new Nexus 7) and wanted to throw 4.3 on to my N4. I had formatted my computer a while back, so I installed all the SDK stuff, usb drivers, etc... I did a factory image ADB install of 4.3 on my old N7 (to let the wife try) and went to try to do the same on my N4.
No matter what I do, the device is "not recognized" by windows when connecting via USB. In device manager it simply says "Unknown device" with an exclamation mark. I have tried unistalling/updating drivers (says proper drivers already installed), unistalling/updating drivers via SDK manager, nothing...
Sometimes it will get recognized as a USB device (in general, but the same errors) and sometimes nothing will happen with my computer at all when it's connected (i.e. no sound or anything). I have obviously rebooted the phone and computer multiple times, used multiple USB ports and cables. Just to make sure things were working with ANY device I did the uninstall/reinstall of the USB drivers, hooked up the N7 and it was recognized immediately (the new N7, first time I plugged it in via USB). I have tried with debugging on/off, with MTP/camera, everything I can think of.
The only consistent thing is that the device does charge every time it is plugged in to the computer.
I'm on a stock rooted 4.2.2 with Franco 165. I have never enabled USB fast charging, nor is it currently enabled. I also don't generally hook my devices up to the computer, so this is probably the first time since 4.2.2 came out. I also have not installed any new apps in a long time (and I have very few outside of stock to begin with).
The only things that have changed recently...
- I used a T-Mobile sim when I was on vacation (not my normal provider), and I'm back on my normal provider now. I assume that that is not the issue
- I used a car charger extensively while I was away (I don't normally use it at all). By extensively I mean it was plugged in for hours at a time (GPS). It did appear to have issues charging at times, did get VERY warm at times, and toward the end of a long session of charging it did shut off (and had issues rebooting/with the battery after). It is probably a cheaper made "chinese" charger if that matters
- Liteflow also appears not to be clearing notifications properly since the T-Mobile sim was in. I don't know why...
- Battery life in general seems to be decreasing since I've been home. It notably goes down, especially when not in use.
- I still have the system update icon in my tray (I'd like to do it via ADB)
Would the car charger do this? Again, outside of the battery life seeming to die faster, the liteflow issue, and the USB issue, everything else seems to be working normally.
I'm just out of ideas on why the USB isn't being recognised on my computer with the N4.
Wow you have just described exactly the problem I've been having for the past few days! I am in the exact same boat. Bump for exposure and possibly a fix!
I can charge my phone through USB when connecting to my laptop, but it does show up as a device, anywhere. I've tried ADB, Fastboot, and Device Manager. It doesn't even show up in Device Manager as an unknown device (e.g. yellow exclamation point). I've enabled USB debugging, changed the USB configuration to File Transfers, used multiple cables (including the OOB red one), multiple machines (Windows 10 and 7), but I see nothing. No storage drive, no errors, no Windows sound indicating a device has been connected. But still it charges. I thought about wiping to factory settings, but given I'm not connecting via Fastboot or ADB, is that even worth trying?
I'm on OOS 3.5.6 unrooted and bootloader is still locked, although I've previously had other builds and TWRP on it (so USB used to work for data). I figure that OnePlus won't support me because the screen is cracked in the bottom corner, but I don't see how that could have broken just the data pins and not the charging ones. I think I had this problem before I dropped the phone, but I can't be 100%.
Same problem
I too have the same problem , I too have never rooted it ...Never dropped , never rooted but still suffering from the same problem...
There is an option in the develiper options...
That has these issues sorted with
Try it out there or just let me know
Try changing the cable too. The pins might have worn out
P. S I do not have the issue. Suggestions only
