Hi.
Last week I noticed that my I9000 running CM9 has no charging symbol on the indicator. Then I tried to shut down the phone and just charge it turned off, but it immediately booted itself to OS when I connected the cable. When I connected it to computer it just charged without charging symbol and nothing happened. Computer didn't detect it, and the phone also did not detect the computer.
Then I tried to wipe everything (data, cache, dalvik cache) and flashing a new CM10 rom (I had to transfer .zip to phone via bluetooth ) . I also cleaned the connector with alcohol and checked the leads on PCB and everything seems fine. But it still doesn't work.
This morning when I connected it to computer it recognized it and phone asked me to choose USB mass storage. But after few seconds the computer reported malfunctioning USB device. After I disconnected the cable charging symbol remained on like it's still connected. Then I rebooted the phone and again there is no charging symbol and no communication with computer. I also tried few other USB cables (another samsung, SE, nokia...)
Is there anything else I can try or should I start saving the money for a new phone?

If you connect it to your pc in download mode, does Odin recognize it?

No. Nothing happens. I also can't find it in device manager.
Sounds like it might be borked alright. Though if it's still charging then at least you won't have to rush out and by a new phone. Try removing your microsd card and formatting your internal storage, before you connect it. Long shot, but it might work :-/
I haven't connected the phone to pc in quite a while tbh, I usually just download the latest version of Cyanogenmod straight from the browser to update, and use dropbox to send any files I need from my PC. e.g. new songs, videos etc. Though obviously if I was reloading all my music/videos I'd need the usb connection to work.

So last week i was trying to plug my Galaxy S using the standard usb cord that Samsung gives us..
however i didnt get any response from my laptop..
then i will unplug the usb..and the device will still say is plug...so i tried to restart the device and it wont start up..the only way to start it is by plugin it in a usb.
so i tried reseting everything....nope the issue wont go away.
i tried flashing to a different rom..had the JPO rom from kies..
and nope the issue wont go away...
flashed actually 2 different roms..and nothing...and yes at the stage that i was flashing the problem seemed to come intermittent.. so whilst i was able to connected it to the pc i decided to odin..
but yes the problem occured.
now the problem is even worst..it just wont start at all...dont know what to do?!
may need to take it to my carrier...
i believe is a hardware issue...
anyone had experiences like that???
Just to clarify, it has worked prior to last week?
My Galaxy S wasn't being detected in USB Mass Storage mode properly last night, but a restart of my pc fixed that.

Maybe it's just a bad battery. Does (or did) it start up when you plug it into a wall charger?
No is not the battery..as that charges correctly .my theory is that the data cable of the USB connector has somehow become short..and so is not accepting any data signal
Hello.
I've got a weird problems with my MM2. The main problem is connections. I am having some issues with USB and charger. First of all, let's start about USB. For about one month ago I wanted to copy something onto my phone, but unfortutaltey the computer couldn't see the phone card (It see the phone, RSD lite found it). My first thoughts were going around drivers, so i unintalled it and installed everything from the very beggining, but it didn't changed anything. The phone was still on "Memory card acess" with USB debugging enabled (With disabled it wasn't seen even by RSD lite). Second idea was the USB cable, so i've changed it to other one, but it dosen't change anything. The same thing goes on every PC. Yea, and thats about USB issue. Now I will tell about charger. So, for about two days, i just simply wanted to charge up my phone. I looked at the phone, the notification said, that it is charging properly. OK, so i left the phone to charge up. I came back after one hour, and the battery status went down to 1% from 10%~. I tried to change charger, but still without effect. My friend gave me battery from his MM2 and the same thing happend. After some tricks, I've made my phone to charge up. I just tried to unplug/plug usb. It charged up, and next day i had the same issue. Now i even can't make it charging, it is so frightening. I tried to charge up with USB cable with "Only charge", but without effect.
Help me please, this two things are driving me mad!
My apologises about all the mistakes, my English is so poor.
Roms and Kernel change dosent affect.
Maybe your USB port is bad...
Try flashing a SBF to reset the phone. Do you know to get to bootloader mode? Turn on while pressing volume up and camera buttons, then plug your M2 to PC. That's the only way RSD Lite should recognize your phone correctly.

I flashed SBF 2 times, on 2.2 and 2.2.2 the same problems occurs. RSD recognizes my phone corrently, no matter how it is connected. I said, that I have problems with USB connection, but i meant, that my PC can't see the memory card Other problems were solved, service helped.
Waiting for other replies.
Take sd card to another device and make backup of your data. Format card on ms2 and back your data. in my case it help i dont know why I have problem also milestone see and use sd card but usb sharing to computer didnt work at all, i have no idea why but changing card helped.
So I came back from vacation (with a new Nexus 7) and wanted to throw 4.3 on to my N4. I had formatted my computer a while back, so I installed all the SDK stuff, usb drivers, etc... I did a factory image ADB install of 4.3 on my old N7 (to let the wife try) and went to try to do the same on my N4.
No matter what I do, the device is "not recognized" by windows when connecting via USB. In device manager it simply says "Unknown device" with an exclamation mark. I have tried unistalling/updating drivers (says proper drivers already installed), unistalling/updating drivers via SDK manager, nothing...
Sometimes it will get recognized as a USB device (in general, but the same errors) and sometimes nothing will happen with my computer at all when it's connected (i.e. no sound or anything). I have obviously rebooted the phone and computer multiple times, used multiple USB ports and cables. Just to make sure things were working with ANY device I did the uninstall/reinstall of the USB drivers, hooked up the N7 and it was recognized immediately (the new N7, first time I plugged it in via USB). I have tried with debugging on/off, with MTP/camera, everything I can think of.
The only consistent thing is that the device does charge every time it is plugged in to the computer.
I'm on a stock rooted 4.2.2 with Franco 165. I have never enabled USB fast charging, nor is it currently enabled. I also don't generally hook my devices up to the computer, so this is probably the first time since 4.2.2 came out. I also have not installed any new apps in a long time (and I have very few outside of stock to begin with).
The only things that have changed recently...
- I used a T-Mobile sim when I was on vacation (not my normal provider), and I'm back on my normal provider now. I assume that that is not the issue
- I used a car charger extensively while I was away (I don't normally use it at all). By extensively I mean it was plugged in for hours at a time (GPS). It did appear to have issues charging at times, did get VERY warm at times, and toward the end of a long session of charging it did shut off (and had issues rebooting/with the battery after). It is probably a cheaper made "chinese" charger if that matters
- Liteflow also appears not to be clearing notifications properly since the T-Mobile sim was in. I don't know why...
- Battery life in general seems to be decreasing since I've been home. It notably goes down, especially when not in use.
- I still have the system update icon in my tray (I'd like to do it via ADB)
Would the car charger do this? Again, outside of the battery life seeming to die faster, the liteflow issue, and the USB issue, everything else seems to be working normally.
I'm just out of ideas on why the USB isn't being recognised on my computer with the N4.
Wow you have just described exactly the problem I've been having for the past few days! I am in the exact same boat. Bump for exposure and possibly a fix!
Hey guys, I'm really at a loss here. I have a Dev edition Note 4. It is rooted with a custom rom running. Randomly, the phone stopped connecting to computers via MTP to transfer files, I could not transfer any data between the phone and any computer via USB. I tried different cables and different computers. The phone still charged, but did not connect via USB. Then, the phone also stopped charging via USB, I was just getting a blinking gray battery icon when the phone was completely powered off and plugged in to the wall. I read online something about holding Volume Up, Power and Home when the gray battery icon appears and it will start charging again. This worked! However still no Data, but at least it would charge. I read something else online about holding this same combination of keys in Download/Odin mode which I tried, and this disabled charging again! WTF! Now I cannot get it to re-enable. I am at a loss here, is sending the phone back to Samsung really my only option?
I've tried: Different Cables, Different Computers, going in to USB Service Menu with *#0808# and selecting MTP and MTP+ADB, nothing works. I am positive something can affect USB settings in Download mode, but I am at my wits end trying to figure it out.
Any ideas?

Why not try wiping data/cache from recovery and install an official ROM from Samsung)either 4.4.4 or lollipop)

That is what I am thinking too.
I can charge my phone through USB when connecting to my laptop, but it does show up as a device, anywhere. I've tried ADB, Fastboot, and Device Manager. It doesn't even show up in Device Manager as an unknown device (e.g. yellow exclamation point). I've enabled USB debugging, changed the USB configuration to File Transfers, used multiple cables (including the OOB red one), multiple machines (Windows 10 and 7), but I see nothing. No storage drive, no errors, no Windows sound indicating a device has been connected. But still it charges. I thought about wiping to factory settings, but given I'm not connecting via Fastboot or ADB, is that even worth trying?
I'm on OOS 3.5.6 unrooted and bootloader is still locked, although I've previously had other builds and TWRP on it (so USB used to work for data). I figure that OnePlus won't support me because the screen is cracked in the bottom corner, but I don't see how that could have broken just the data pins and not the charging ones. I think I had this problem before I dropped the phone, but I can't be 100%.
Same problem
I too have the same problem , I too have never rooted it ...Never dropped , never rooted but still suffering from the same problem...
There is an option in the develiper options...
That has these issues sorted with
Try it out there or just let me know
Try changing the cable too. The pins might have worn out
P. S I do not have the issue. Suggestions only
