usb connector not functional only charges! :( - Galaxy S I9000 General

So last week i was trying to plug my Galaxy S using the standard usb cord that Samsung gives us..
however i didnt get any response from my laptop..
then i will unplug the usb..and the device will still say is plug...so i tried to restart the device and it wont start up..the only way to start it is by plugin it in a usb.
so i tried reseting everything....nope the issue wont go away.
i tried flashing to a different rom..had the JPO rom from kies..
and nope the issue wont go away...
flashed actually 2 different roms..and nothing...and yes at the stage that i was flashing the problem seemed to come intermittent.. so whilst i was able to connected it to the pc i decided to odin..
but yes the problem occured.
now the problem is even worst..it just wont start at all...dont know what to do?!
may need to take it to my carrier...
i believe is a hardware issue...
anyone had experiences like that???

Just to clarify, it has worked prior to last week?
My Galaxy S wasn't being detected in USB Mass Storage mode properly last night, but a restart of my pc fixed that.

Maybe it's just a bad battery. Does (or did) it start up when you plug it into a wall charger?

No is not the battery..as that charges correctly .my theory is that the data cable of the USB connector has somehow become short..and so is not accepting any data signal

[Q] Help! My focus won't recognize that it's connected to a USB

Hi everyone,
Recently, I tried to get my phone to tether using these directions: (can't post the link yet, but these directions are kind of universal)
2-On the phone, go to keypad and dial ##634#, then press the [Call] button.
3- A diagnostic mode screen in gray will show up.
4- Dial *#7284#, and press the [Call] button.
5- A Microsoft USB Test screen will show up which allows configuration of USB Path Control settings (options available is Zune Sync; Modem, Tethered Call; and Modem, USB Diag).
6- Select Modem, Tethered Call.
7- The phone will automatically restart to activate the setting.
8- Connect the phone to PC with a USB cable.
..and so on and so forth
However, when I tried to put it back to the zune/sync, it wouldn't work. I go back to the menu where it gives me the three choices of zune; tethering; and USB modem, and it shows that the phone is on the Zune sync option. However, when I plug in the USB cable into it, the computer doesn't recognize it - there's no charging involved, and the zune software doesn't open.
Additionally, when I try charging it to the plug that came with the package, the phone doesn't recognize that it's connected to that either and it still doesn't charge. Does anyone know what the issue is here?
I've tried multiple times to go back to the Path Control Settings menu and switch it to Zune Sync but nothing is happening to remedy the situation. Any pointers?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance!
A long shot but did you by chance set the Zune software to sync wireless ? You may need to set it to No or turn off wirless Sync.
Settings>Phone>Wireless Sync
Make sure your phone is connected and sign into Zune. Again only a long shot.
I'm 99.9% sure I didn't set it to wireless sync. I turned off the wireless on my phone to conserve battery as well.
Also, in order to check the wireless sync setting I need to connect my phone, which I have, but the computer nor the phone has registered the connection. (No sound made on either end, and the battery charge icon isn't showing)
Thanks though! A long shot is still a shot!
edit: FYI, I'm running Windows 7 64-bit. I'm not sure if that had anything to do with mucking up my phone as it did...
This sounds pretty strange. I have been changing from Modem to Zune back and forth and no problems at all.
I guess a Hard Reset will do the job for you. But I am not completely sure. Good luck.

Do I understand correctly that you cannot charge the phone with the wall charger?
If that's the case, it's probably an issue with your cord or the mini usb port.
Did you make any other changes while in Diagnostic mode? If you're not sure, check out this thread.

Yes, you understood correctly. I cannot charge the phone with the wall charger. It's the charger that came with it, so it's the charger that has a USB port. I've also tried using different USB cords unsuccessfully. :-/
I haven't made any other changes while in Diagnostic mode.
A hard reset is a last resort. Although I'd still want to figure out why it happened as opposed to just figuring out how to fix it to prevent something like this in the future.
Thanks guys!

I think the mini USB socket on your phone may be defective. Fortunately, the setup following a hard reset isn't nearly the task it was on WM...
So I tried a hard reset, and the thing still didn't work.
I'm assuming this is a hardware problem. Thankfully AT&T has the whole 30 day exchange thing going on.
They couldn't fix it there, so they did exchange it for a new one. The new one works. So yay!
Thanks for all your input peoples!

[Q] Help,Epic wont mount to pc or ps3

Today my Epic no longer mounts for some reson to anything,i tryed pc and ps3.
It wont even show "usb debugging" and "mount" optioms in the pulldown bar!
Only thing it does is charges and orange led comes on when pluged in.
I tried swithing usb debuging on and off, tried with usb debugging off, cleared cache, cleared dalvic cache, pulled out battery and sd,mounted and unmounted sd,reformated sd,cleared battery stats and nothing!
It wont even show up under "adb devices",and I can switch "usb debugging" on and off while its pluged in-which is not normaly possible(it has to be unpluged first in normal circumstances).
Any ideas?
Not sure about the PS3, but for the computer try reinstalling the drivers and see if that does it. Do you know if you did anything to trigger this? Have you experienced any other bugs lately?

Well my stock went dead for no reason, then I used good thick usb that I got at radioshack and that went dead, now im using usb from my old Samsung Memoir which is probably the best cable out of these 3,but it dint see much use untill lately because its real short.
I dont think the cable is dead because the phone still charges-with my other two dead cables it didnt.
Plus I always had this cable pluged in ps3 for easy transfers between Epic.
I think it got something to with with my rom but I dont wanna reflash and waste 2-3 hours off setting up my phone just to find out that it wasnt the problem.
Another thing I noticed is that lately when transferimg files to ps3 it would just unmount in the middle of a transfer.

I'd highly recommend going and buying a blackberry cable... only like 5 bucks and I'm sure your problems will be solved.

What was the end result of this? Did you get it sorted out?
My Epic started showing this same behavior yesterday. Not recognized in ODIN, ADB, Mass Storage mode or downloader mode. Tried three cables (two Samsung and one HTC) and four different computers and the result is the same: charges but not detected as a USB device.
Bad USB port on the Epic?
same problem for me
started having the same problem here after flashing back to stock ec05 from the new mtd cm7. im using the blackberry cable but it wont recognize my phone in odin or anything. i did everything correctly to get back to ec05 so i tried updating ota to gingerbread and it didnt fix it. only blessing is everything is stock so i can just take it into sprint but id rather not have to
i installed a file explorer program that runs as an FTP site...
and just ftp my files over...
maybe i'll setup soemthing with JPsoft.com's take command to automate it..
since it does batch file like ftp usage.
either that or tasker...
i'm a little disturbed at all the clutter on my sd card from various aps though.

[PROBLEM] Problems with connections (USB/AC charger)

Hello.
I've got a weird problems with my MM2. The main problem is connections. I am having some issues with USB and charger. First of all, let's start about USB. For about one month ago I wanted to copy something onto my phone, but unfortutaltey the computer couldn't see the phone card (It see the phone, RSD lite found it). My first thoughts were going around drivers, so i unintalled it and installed everything from the very beggining, but it didn't changed anything. The phone was still on "Memory card acess" with USB debugging enabled (With disabled it wasn't seen even by RSD lite). Second idea was the USB cable, so i've changed it to other one, but it dosen't change anything. The same thing goes on every PC. Yea, and thats about USB issue. Now I will tell about charger. So, for about two days, i just simply wanted to charge up my phone. I looked at the phone, the notification said, that it is charging properly. OK, so i left the phone to charge up. I came back after one hour, and the battery status went down to 1% from 10%~. I tried to change charger, but still without effect. My friend gave me battery from his MM2 and the same thing happend. After some tricks, I've made my phone to charge up. I just tried to unplug/plug usb. It charged up, and next day i had the same issue. Now i even can't make it charging, it is so frightening. I tried to charge up with USB cable with "Only charge", but without effect.
Help me please, this two things are driving me mad!
My apologises about all the mistakes, my English is so poor.
Roms and Kernel change dosent affect.
Maybe your USB port is bad...
Try flashing a SBF to reset the phone. Do you know to get to bootloader mode? Turn on while pressing volume up and camera buttons, then plug your M2 to PC. That's the only way RSD Lite should recognize your phone correctly.

I flashed SBF 2 times, on 2.2 and 2.2.2 the same problems occurs. RSD recognizes my phone corrently, no matter how it is connected. I said, that I have problems with USB connection, but i meant, that my PC can't see the memory card Other problems were solved, service helped.
Waiting for other replies.
Take sd card to another device and make backup of your data. Format card on ms2 and back your data. in my case it help i dont know why I have problem also milestone see and use sd card but usb sharing to computer didnt work at all, i have no idea why but changing card helped.

Cannot properly charge my S5

Hi, i just got my Galaxy S5. Somehow i had some charging problems and after it had contact problems and constantly showing "Connected" - "Not Connected" it completly stopped working when i installed Lollipop. I sent it to a repair center and they swapped the charging port and installed KitKat Stock firmware again. Charging now worked, but after some days the error came back again. I reinstalled KitKat via Odin again and now its charging normally. But i know this error will come again and i have no idea how this is possible.
No matter which firmware i got:
- When plugging in the charger while Android is shut down, it shows a battery with a yellow warning symbol. But the phone everytime detects when the charger is plugged in even if its not charging (when Android is running, it doesnt even shows the charger is connected)
- Connection in Download mode via Odin 100% working without any disconnection problems
What the hell is the problem when its not hardware-side and works when i reinstall KitKat?
Push...
Sent my S5 to Samsung and they replaced the charging port. Charging on KitKat WORKED flawless. After Lollipop Update via KIES it has contact error again and does not charge ... Download mode fully working, Charging while Android running NOT working, USB connection not working and charging while Android shut down shows battery error symbol after 1 minute. But it detects that the charger is plugged in when android is shut down....
Sometimes it detects USB and charger but very randomly and for short periods of time. Right now it somehow detected USB connection and works since some minutes after it showed connected disconnected for several times.
Get the phone replaced, it's obviously faulty

I cannot replace it, only send it to the support again. But it cant be that Download mode is working but depending on the Android version USB and charging is not. This is just not possible and cant be hardware-related.
Don't know if this has been already considered, but: did you try another USB cable and/or another charger ? Maybe its not the phone after all !
Just my 2 cents,
Axel

Galaxy s8 wont charge after being plugged into my computer

So I have a pretty interesting problem and I'm hoping somebody here could give some advice if they've ever had this problem or knows how to fix it. So here's what happened, I have a galaxy S8 and I tried plugging it into my computer to charge it, and it prompted the question something along the lines of, "this computer wants to access data on your phone" and it gave me the option allow or deny. Pretty standard stuff. So I pressed allow, and the same question was prompted again. So I thought huh that's weird, and I kept pressing allow over and over and nothing was happening it just kept coming up again. Pretty annoying. Anyways, I gave up on that after a while and went to plug it into the wall charger like I normally do, and I was surprised to see that it wasn't charging anymore even when I plug it into the wall. I tried switching ports, I tried switching cables, and nothing worked it just quit charging. And I'm just wondering what could have caused this problem? The only thing I can think of is that my computer short circuited the charging port or something, but when I plugged it into the computer again after that it still did the same thing with it asking me that question over and over again, so it obviously recognized that a device is being plugged in which means the charger port should be working fine. Another thing, when all this happened my phone was at 10% battery life, and I tried to turn my phone off and plug it into the wall that way to troubleshoot and see if that would make it want to charge. It didn't charge, and I tried turning it on again but now it is at 0% all the sudden, so I don't know why that happened either. And here's the kicker, this same thing actually happened to TWO of my devices. It's just the first time I didn't realize that it was my computer that messed it up, I just thought that my phone was defective, but it was covered by my insurance and they sent me another one for free(which is awesome). It wasn't until today when it happened again and it clicked that it might not be a defective phone but somehow my computer messed it up. Anyways, I know this was long winded but I wanted to be detailed so you have all the information. If anybody knows how to fix this your advice would be really appreciated. Thanks.
,
to be sure it is not a software problem, open the "USBSettings" by dialing "*#0808#". Try different settings (it shouldn't matter which one you choose, it's just about the resetting of whatever is in there. then connect it to your charger. If it doesn't work, I would reboot the device and try again...
good luck!

Thanks for the response. So I did try that and nothing changed so I guess it's not a software problem. And I actually have an update to the story. I bought a wireless charger and I figured that would work for sure, and my phone turns on but it just stays at 0% and doesn't charge at all. So I really don't know why it would do that and that makes me think that it's something wrong with the battery? I really dont know haha

It's very possible as I have seen a high number of issues with USB 3.0+ and they s8 series. Always try to use 2.0 with this phone. Ive had 2 s8+ have their charging port trying to tether threw 3.0. Had to send them both in. I haven't fount the exact conflict yet but am working on it.
if you recently put it in water, it wont charge until its dry. I doubt this is the problem but its a suggestion. can you boot it up when its plugged in by holding Vol Up, Power, and Bixby? If not try the same thing with volume down. Some old phones booted up like this when there was no other way.
Good luck, this sounds like it sucks ;(
