Sorry mods, I didnt know where else to put this. Feel free to move it if this isn't a good place.
Ok, So I sent my phone in for repair (a backlight problem) and they sent it back after 2 weeks, and its still exactly the same.
So Ive sent it back again.
But in all honesty, Im not happy paying my monthly bill for a phone Ive not been using.
So do I have the right to demand a refund/not paying next month?
Also, Can I demand a brand new phone if it comes back broken again this time?
thanks guys

Your signature says that you're running a custom ROM. If that's true then I wouldn't expect that you have any rights because you will have voided the warranty. What did they tell you when the phone was returned last time?

I flashed everything back to stock so there is no sign Ive had a custom rom.
They said they couldn't find a problem at all with the phone. They re-flashed the software for me So i guess its a hardwear problem with the acctual phone....

OK. I think the first step will be for you to get HTC to agree that there's a problem with the phone. Until that happens you don't really have a leg to stand on because the phone company will simply argue that you're not owed a refund because there's no problem with the phone (and I think they'd be right to say that).
Once you've proven that the phone is faulty you may be able to contact the phone company and ask for a refund. Unfortunately I don't know exactly what your rights are in this case but it seems reasonable that you shouldn't have to pay for the time when you were unable to use your contract phone. Maybe someone with a bit more expertise can jump in and help here.
The main point though is that you need to prove that you have a problem before you can ask for your money back and I don't think you've managed to do that just yet.
but your still using the SIM right?
Can you take it to their high street shop and demo them the fault? Does the backlight come on at all?

then i'd argue with them till im blue in the face! i dont think you should be paying for a service you cannot use. at the very least they should knock it off your next bill or credit you what you've paid already...
id politely argue the point that you cant use your sim without a working handset and since the one they provided is faulty they either have to provide a backup handset whilst yours is being repaired or credit your account.
not sure how it would all work out but its worth a go.
as for the other stuff... if they keep sending it back saying there isnt a problem then you need to be able to prove that there is.
My experience...
My HD2 is off for repair, and as I haven't got insurance which would have entitled me to a loan hand set, VF UK have credited me with a month’s worth of my line rental. Used that to buy a crappy PAYG Nokia and popped my contract SIM in to it. It has £10 of calls on the PAYG SIM I can keep 'in case of emergency, which means I am actually only £10 down.
in the uk if you return something 3 times for the same fault and on the third occassion it still has the same fault you have the law on your side which i believe states they have not made reasonable effort to resolve the problem and they have to replace the device with the same model or another of equal value.
i had a similar thing with vodafone and they ended up giving me a 3gs for my broken hd2 as they had no hd2's or desires in stock.
vodafone didn't charge me for the 2 months it took to send it in and out for repair as i was being inconvenienced through no fault of my own.
on your repair notes it should state the fault you sent it in for each time. phone trading standards or at least threaten to if they don't sort it out

That's what they've told me on '3 strikes and you're out', but also that have some HD2's in reserve for situations like this...
There must be a way for you to put your plan on hold so you don't pay the plan since you are not using it... all the matter of coordination and loosing time

Afternoon all,
Last week i had to put in my phone for repair, fine cracks had appeared on the LED under the gorrila glass, thus making my screen blank and none responsive.
I wasnt holding my breath as i thought that it would come back with this answer, they came back saying this (this is though phones4u as that is who i purchased the phone with):
Unfortunately your phone appears to be Out of Warranty so we have raised the following estimate.
So i gave them a call to see how it could be out of warranty and they said even though it is inside the 12months as it is a cracked screen it isnt covered by the wrranty, this is classed as accidental damage.
Now this phone has never been dropped, it was got last april and is pretty much in perfect condition and have no idea how the cracks on the LED appered, after explaining all this i was told the same, it isnt covered as there is no way to prove it wasnt dropped or had extreme pressure put on it.
They gave me a quote of £71.99 to repair the phone and get it back to me, which i am paying. If i had cracked the screen by fault of my own i would think this a good price as i have seen replacement screens on ebay, ect for alot more.
I feel a little hard done by as i know nothing has happened to break my phone, i was just wondering how others feel. Do you think with the size and popularity of Samsung phones they should be offering something like apple loyalty replacement or something similar? or has anyone had better luck going though a different vendor?
Should have contacted Samsung directly instead of going through one of the rip off merchants.

I was told by the man in phones4u that it was being sent to Samsung but it seems to have gone to their repair people. :/
Do you think going to sammy direct would have gotten me a different answer or cheaper repair?

They probably would have given it a more close inspection, as to signs of possible drops or accidents.
That sucks. I'll be sure and steer clear of phones4u in the future, thanks for the heads up.

Dunno but I find it easier to deal directly with the manufacturer than the rip off merchants. When my tab had some dust under the screen within a few weeks of purchase PC World refused to exchange it and said I may need to pay for the repair. Told them to where to stick it and called Samsung directly and they sent a prepaid jiffy bag for the device and a form to fill and send it back to them. They repaired it free of charge and I got it back within a week of sending it off.
Thanks for the input Intratech, think this is a case of lesson learnt for any future problems (hoping there isnt any).
You are in that very difficult position accidental damage by user who of course claims not .Versus phone broke by itself
You could claim against the seller but after six months its up to you to provide the proof that its a manufacturing fault .
As said Samsung may well have been the best route as they will have a higher margin and better trained staff than retail outlets .

Although I prefer to use the S2 as my daily phone, I also own an iPhone 4.
One thing I really love about Apple is their warranty. Pretty much no questions asked. I guarantee if I went in with a cracked LCD (not screen) they would have replaced it on the spot.
Although I love Sammy (S1 & S2) their warranty stinks. Also, no official invoice means no warranty.

Thanks for the replies folks.
I also love what apple do for the customers warranty wise, being able to look up the age of a model instore is amazing.
Do you think that sammy should introduce something like this due to how much they are competing with apple now?
How hard would it be to incorporate this service in to the generic phone shops (CPW,Phones4u,ect).
The cracks maybe related to temperature differentiation? From very hot ambiance to very cold one? It is good to know this kind of stuff.

i work in mobile sales, and i see this allllll the time, now i do believe you when you say that it was probably a manufacturing fault with the screen, but you have to keep in mind that probably 97% of the time with customers, it is the their own fault, and about 85% of those people will downright lie about it, ive had a customer come into my store shouting and screaming that it wasnt her fault the screen was cracked, that it was made badly and that she always was super careful about it, until her 5/6 year old son says 'but wait mommy, i saw you throw it up against the wall when you were shouting...'
fact is, people lie about it, all the time, same with water damage! 'sorry sir but its water damaged, theres not alot i can do about it'
'it hasnt been anywhere near water! it must be the humidity, or condensation, but it most defiantly hasnt gotten wet'
'but look sir... that looks alot like milk to me'
'ah...'
im sure if people were honest all the time, your phone would have been fixed no problem, but no, they arnt :/
sorry about the rant!

This was something that had crossed my mind, before it happened i was at my mums all warm lovely, then i went out and it was freezing was out for about 30min before i noticed what had happened.
I saw that article about how the s2 can work at low low temps the other day, but i dont think it said anything about the effect of a quick change in temps.

Just using o2.co.uk as an example (i know there are a lot of different prices out there i just used a popular place), our s2 is £449.99 on p&g and the ip4s is £499.99.
The £50 difference isn't much more of a premium for how long most people keep there phones for.

I scored mine for 275GBP including an extra battery, and a silicone case. 2 months old (used) not a scratch, delivered to my door (through pure coincidence). Sammobile.com claims that factory warranty runs until Sept 2013.
I suppose im lucky in the sense in that when i purchased my phone on eBay it came with a 2 year warranty and (touch wood) ive had no trouble with it at all and i have it 8 months now and it's running fine, ive heard some bad reports about Phones4U too, their sales assistants are seriously pushy as well the minute you step into one of their shops they are all over you like a rash firing questions at you desperate to make a sale, any wonder i rarely ever go there anymore when im in the UK.

Mine was free on £40 p/m contract, i got it the day after it was released tho it has been in a silicone case from day one. I don't doubt that shopping around will find you our phone cheaper. i just think the majority of people would use a place like o2 or other retail chains.

I don't think that i will be using them again, i didn't get really get any bad service and the staff were as helpful as they could be. I just want to move away from the whole tied to a contract thing, im signed up for 24 months and i regret that now. I will probably aim to do something like in your sig and go on gif gaf if they are still as good in 15months time.

Yeah my warranty card states that the device has a warranty of 24months starting from date of purchase. So Sept 2013 for me also lol
I saw warranty on SamMobile and it was of 1 year and 10 months from the date of purchase but the Samsung guy says he will only give it till 1 year from the date of purchase
P.S yesterday I got my screen replaced and my proximity sensor is not working
Such an idiot guy,I have to go again to service center tomorrow because today is Sunday and its closed

Warranty may be dependant upon area of sales .
Usual in the UK with Samsung mobiles is that Samsung offer a limited warranty for twenty four months .
That is outside of the sellers responsibility for the phone which is usually a twelve month warranty .

To do so I have to travel to another country, which is impossible to me, also the seller is not professional enough to ship the device directly to him, its almost like a device with no warranty, thats why i'm trying with Sony.
appreciate your comments there to apply more pressure.
Thanks
Then your problem might be with your seller, not with Sony

Sorry to say this, but have to agree here. The problem is the seller, since your device isn't under warranty.
I kinda feel Sony Middle East just like to screw us over. I brought the Z2 and I didnt get anything extra with the device. I didnt get the NC headphones or the dock or the cover, literally nothing. I literally feel that sony middle east is screwing us over.
I believe u should just go to the dealer who u brought the device from. If u have the warranty card u can just scan it and send it to Sony. Probably calling them would yield better results

In India they dump us with smartband which nobody really uses, case which i don't want and say its free when its not.

Please, you are buying a phone not because it comes with stupid obligatory 'gifts' that you cannot refuse.
So many companies are doing this now because psychologically it works and you proved it. I always say how much gifts are worth. they say x, so i say give me without gifts and deduct x. But you know what they only reduce by 20%x or they refuse. So value of 'gifts' is a lie.
This was with Z1, with Z2 they put the gifts inside the box (!)
You are lucky.
I have W17 batch one also, and thinking about it, the only things I can actually say is that I experience the call quality thing (which I think can be fixed by a software) and also the gaps issue which has not really been big of a deal till now (Never dipped my phone in water however).
Camera is fine, back cover good, Flaps are great here... Sorry u go t unlucky mate... I'm actually in the same situation as u. Imported phone from regular "unprofessional retailer", no warranty. Till now, Z2 didn't launch in my country. So, yh!

i will let you know if the call quality issue is software related or not .. as mine is going back to the retailer for a "repair " i would imagine they will probably just pop a new mic in it , as im running .402 which at this moment in the UK is the latest software. i have also had a display issue with the screen jumping to different screens on its own,but its only done this the once.

So i didnt wanted to start a new thread. So ill post here . I also bought My new Xperia Z2 from Saudi Arabia. It was w20 model had screen gaps issue both on front and back . Bought it from Sony store and they said that it will not effect waterproofness of the device. Even then i was careful but after a month it was full of finger prints and i decided to wash it and unfortunately water went inside . All flaps were closed and i double checked it . When i took it to service center they said no warranty if water went inside and they will send it to Dubai please check back after 2 weeks.
I posted on Facebook as they may help me but this was their reply was we are sorry and nothing else
On twitter they are not even replying. and they just say contact service center and all i hear from them is excuses. there is not a single scrtach on my device. Unfortunately there is no refund or replacement system here. Really disappointed with Sony services. I saved money for 6 months for this device
does any one bought the z2 from sony in dubai ?!
my uncle bought me and I will get it by next week .
so I want to know the problems with this version of the device ( sony dubai ) .
sony stuff told my uncle to close the camera before putting the device in the water !! weird :/
it should be water resistant and we can take photos under water !!

I recently opened a ticket with Samsung regarding apparent corrosion/flaking under the corner of my screen. Has anyone had any luck getting them to send a replacement before mailing the defective device in? I don't really like the idea of being phone

Samsung is a multi-billion dollar company. They won't not return your device, ruining their reputation because of this. One Note 3 is mere trash to them. It won't benefit them in any way unlike a typical small company where they can just keep the phone forever.

Sorry if it was unclear--I'm not worried about losing the phone, I'm just reluctant to send it in before I have a replacement given how much I rely on it in my day-to-day life. I was just curious as to whether anyone else had been able to finesse a replacement out of them before sending the defective unit in (presumably by placing a hold on a credit card--I doubt they'd take my word, bond though it may be).

Yeah, just spoke with them, and they wouldn't budge. Understandable enough. I'm on the T-Mobile jump program, but I'm not sure they'd replace it given that it's apparently a manufacturing defect. I just hope there's no quibbling over whether it's user damage--a quick search yielded several pictures of the exact same problem, but in my case it seems to have eaten out to the bezel.

Update 9 Feb 2018: So i sent this dead piece of brick to a third party repair centre amd they have confirmed that motherboard is faulty and it will cost 12000 or ~200$ to replace (down from 22k quoted by Huawei service centre). I am seriously repenting my decision of buying this phone against my instinct. I was initially skeptical about huawei now it has proven to be true. This has never happened to any of my earlier phones, it couldn’t even last two full years.
Now question is what should i do next? Spending 200$ isnt a wise decision as this phone doesnt have this much resale value and no certainty that it wont show any other issue after this repair.
If i dont go for repair what can i do with this dead phone, no exchange or buyback available
I am really disheartened. Guys Please suggest what should i do, need your opinion.
Yesterday my nexus 6p turned off abruptly and never booted up. Battery was more than 90% , tried plugging-in again for an hour but it shows no signs of life.
Today i visited Huawei's service center, they told me that its either PCB or battery issue. Battery replacement will cost 11k and PCB will cost 22k.
I am very disappointed with huawei quality, highly unreliable and substandard. within 2 year device shows such major issues. Cant believe Google chose this brand to malign their own brand value. never experienced this with any other brand, have used almost all brands including Xiaomi.
Now can anyone guide me on how to bring this piece of brick back to life? I wont bear 22k as it doesnt worth it for this device should i go for third party repair?
please suggest!
I would take the least expensive route and replace the battery yourself. If that doesn't work invest in a new phone. It is a great phone but to risky with the BLOD to invest too much money into.

how do i figure out if its a battery or pcb fault?
when my phone started to do this, I literally had to press the power button for like a minute before it showed signs of life....
Heat it up with a hair dryer and it may start.

Well if you did the work yourself could change that and the battery for under $40. If your paying to have it done that's a much bigger expense. Do you take the chance and hopefully get another couple years out of it? I mean even if you get the BLOD there is a fix for it though your phone gets slowed down quite a bit. I like the phone and would say go for it but let's see what others think. ?
