Hello.
I've read a few threads on here and elsewhere that address the general issue but not this precise situation.
Background - S8 received back from repair. Factory reset as standard. Clean installed usual apps.
I noticed over the following week very poor battery life compared to pre-repair. Another S8 in household, we checked every setting was the same throughout. Also confirmed massive battery drain difference overnight. I was convinced the repair shop had sent me a refurb handset (or refurb internal battery). Checked IMEI - same handset at least.
Installed GSAM to monitor overnight. Phone Radio heaviest user by a mile. I'll upload the photos later but typically 3% - 6% per hour. Second night I turned absolutely every setting off including WiFi, Mobile Data, Sync, but left network signal on for receiving calls. Exactly the same heavy battery drain on Phone Radio was recorded. By now I'm thinking my sim card is hunting between cell towers or something is not right with the syncing of my Vodafone account/sim card. Third night I turn every setting off and then completely remove the sim card and sd card (signal strength bars still show due to internal chip for emergency numbers). Wake up to even heavier usage, nearly 7% per hour drain due to Phone Radio.
What is the internal phone radio/cell chip getting up to at night, and why now after repair? Any help greatly appreciated.
Funny that you say that. Insurance claim with AT&T and Asurion gave me 8+ like I had. New device is doing the same thing your saying and I didn't have that problem with my old phone. I believe my replacement is a refurbished phone.
Why isn't there any update to that? I suspect this is a planned obsolescence scheme to push you to buy a new smartphone since there's no reason for that...

Just recently got D2G from verizon. Bc this was a replacement phone, I had to use the same battery I previously had in the orig Droid. Battery, as of today, is 15 months old.
When first got D2G, battery life terrible. Upon review of various threads here, determined probably crapware, etc. causing the problem. Using the instructions in this forum, rooted the phone, ran scripts to temporarily remove crapware, installed setCPU, disabled CDMA cell network, set widgets on phone to make sure Wifi, GPS, etc. turned off until needed, and voila, awesome battery life. If not too active, I could get 30 hours on a charge.
Just starting a few days ago, I'm back to 6-8 hours per charge. Phone constantly running out of battery. For example, I was in garage last night, had phone on charger and streaming pandora to my stereo. Come back into house, get ready for bed, quit pandora, phone at 90% charge. Go to bed at 11 pm, up this morning, at 7, phone's dead.
Also, after phone dies, it seems like it takes a long time to get to the 5% charge to actually boot. It will be on USB charger for 30 min plus or so bfore it even boots.
How do you check to see if battery bad?
John
Download an app called Spare Parts from the market (free). Under battery information it will show you battery health. I'm not sure exactly how accurate it is, but it's worth looking at.
Also look at battery history. Change other usage to partial wake, and see whats keeping your phone awake (which can cause battery drain) and also look at network usage, to see if something is constantly connecting to the internet. Hope this helps.
Thx for the response, will give it a look and report back.
John
Looked through spare parts (I had it already), the android operating system was the largest user of CPU and overall. Second by a least half as much was a program called "mediaserver" remainder of programs were all fractional amounts.
Says battery is "good"
I already had "activity/process management" set to aggressive killing.

Just went through phone again to see if I missed anything or something mysteriously reset itself. Only thing i noticed was cell mode set back to global (a result of dead battery reboot??) Changed it back to CDMA only (verizon network). This is supposed to help battery bc GSM network not active.
Also checked through eletric sheep, nothing came up with "mediaserver" Does anyone know to what this refers?
Unless anyone has any other ideas, we'll see what GSM change does.
John
Mediaserver has to do with playing media; pics, videos, etc. In otherwords, in your case, Pandora.

I have a problem on my G2 which includes the battery and the signal. I had my G2 for about a month now and I'm a little bit concerned on my phone. First the battery, it drains very fast and I couldn't last it for 1 1/2 days. I tried to test its endurance for about 12 hours of sleep time. Wi-Fi is on, Bluetooth, NFC, Mobile Data, GPS, etc are off with 0% off brightness. So it started from a fully charged battery. From 5:30 in the morning until 6:00pm, I had a 85% remaining life and when I use it until midnight with regular use (social networking, texting, calling, playing simple games like temple run, candy crush etc.) It had a 20% battery life.
Also it had a telecommunication system problem or software or hardware problem. I can't even detect if it has to do with my sim or my hardware or even the software. As you can see in the photo that I attached, it shows a notification like this : Restricted Access Changed: Voice Service is blocked/ Data Service is blocked. So my phone had no service and it hadn't any signal. I had to restart the phone for it to go away and sometimes it goes back again several times. I called LG and said I had to factory reset the G2 so I did what they said and I thought the problem was gone but it goes back again. The notification and no signal problem still didn't goes away.
Do you think I could ask a replacement for this? Or is it worth it to replace it????
Not sure what is causing your issues but I can say from personal experience when I came from my galaxy nexus I just moved my old 4g still Sim card over. I had horrible 4g connection drops and what I considered bad battery drain. Was constantly switching airplane mode on to regain 4g connection.2 days later got a new 4g Sim card and it was like I got a new phone. Not sure if that will help your situation but it did wonders for me.

About 3 weeks ago my phone started acting up with fast battery drain (about 20-25% per hour) and would be quite warm (90F in normal room temperature while idle).
Some notes:
It's warmest around the camera lens
CPU use is low/nil
Turned on power saver and airplane mode, same deal
Becomes even warmer if I charge it while phone is on
I've swapped in another N3 battery, same deal
I've taken out the sim and memory card (Samsung EVO)
I've done factory resets and formatted the memory card, same deal
It doesn't matter whether I have strong or weak reception.
And the best part...
the phone is slightly warm and the battery drains even when powered off (about 10-15% per hour)
I was on Hyperdrive 7 (4.3 and MJE) when this happened. Took this chance to update to the DeOdex 4.4.2 and now on NC2 but whether on stock rom or Hyperdrive 8 or Alliance, the problem still persisted.
I've tried searching for anyone with the same problem as me both on these forums and on Google, no luck. Closest I found was a bunch of guys in Singapore where going to another SEA country overworked their antenna but their problem was fixed as soon as they returned to Singapore.
Any suggestions?
p.s. I bought this phone used. Assuming I have to call Samsung for warranty service, will they want me to be the original purchaser? I don't have any documents showing the original purchase although the phone's manufacturing date is December 2013 so I'm clearly (though barely) still within the 1 year warranty period.
For warranty I believe they ask for the serial of the device also I had nothing but issues with Samsung reps so word to the wise call get it replaced don't tell them it's used act like it's yours and get the most of the warranty if someone gives you issues hang up call back completely different person will answer and eventually give you what you want. Took me 3 months to fix my charger issue on my note 3 5 reps lied to me saying it was shipping when in fact they just wanted to push me on to someone else and I wasn't even in the system when they act like there looking you up. I eventually talked to a manager that said they did everything wrong from telling me how to ship arrival etc so this is my advice don't give up don't listen to all the reps most don't know anything about phones if so ask to talk to a manager or supervisor that is golden good luck

They wanted Proof of Purchase (receipt) from me when I wanted just a cable replacement....so you may be SOL if you don't have proof you purchased it.

After updating to 4.4.4, my phone was doing the same thing you described. I went into Wi-Fi settings/advanced, and turned off "notify me when Wi-Fi connections are available"; changed "keep Wi-Fi on during sleep" to only when plugged in; and turned off "always allow scanning". After changing these settings, my phone is no longer overheating when plugged in or sitting idle and my battery consumption is back to normal. Apparently my Wi-Fi was constantly scanning, whether on or off, and keeping my cpu clock almost maxed. Again, after changing the settings, the cpu clock has settled back down.

I have the same problem. Where is this WiFi Settings/ ADVANCED???
Found it- Thanks...
I had the exact same problem. It worked fine for months and suddenly wouldn't hold a charge. Same issue, even turning it off and trying to charge, it couldn't keep up. I tried different chargers and batteries and even did an ODEN back to stock. Nothing worked. Then suddenly it quit draining the battery, with no explanation. Very odd.
Hi,
The Nexus 6P has been pretty good so far on battery. Nothing super insane, but enough to get me through a day.
Max I get is 3 hours SOT when I hit 0%...
Android OS is usually in the top 3, and in a 10 hour day, its getting 2 hours of Keep Awake time and about 30min Mobile Radio Active.
Google Play Services is also getting around 45min Mobile Radio Active as well.
Phone is bone stock, bootloader locked, unrooted. Running a handful of apps, even stopped using my Moto360 and disabled bluetooth when not in use to see if that was the culprit.
Any tips? (or apps that help me delve deeper into Android OS and why it keeps waking the thing up)
would also like to know about this, having very similar stats
Similar situation here - crazy battery drain and "Keep Awake" when I have a sim card in (TMo). 3 hours sitting on my desk - not using it - the phone gets warm/hot and Keep Awake shows 1H 16m under Android OS. When I put the same sim back into my Nexus 5 (using the adapter/converter) the N5 battery is perfectly fine.. normal.. no massive drain.
Any thoughts?
Turn off Wifi and give it a try. See if you still have the same battery drain.

Go into location & uncheck all scanning functions
Thanks. I should have mentioned that I already had wifi and bt turned off, and had turned off scanning for both under Locations. I was trying to isolate this to cell signal as best I could by disabling wifi and bt things. I also tried turning off "Enhanced LTE" - and now I'm trying it with wifi calling on (again just to narrow down different possibilities).
I think a factory reset is in my near future - may as well start from completely scratch and see if I still get the same horrible battery drain.
Just reporting back. I did a factory reset - and INITIALLY I thought I was on to something. Battery life seemed better at first, but then I soon began dropping cell signal - which apparently sends the phone off searching for signal chewing up battery.
In my case it's never ending cycle - get signal, drop, search, get signal, drop search.
Yes, I'm in a fairly weak TMo LTE service area, but my Nexus 5 and my wife's Nexus 4 have never had these sort of massive drain issues.
Also, I was in a major metro area on Sat night and the signal kept dropping as well. I couldn't toggle it back on via airplane mode or the mobile data switch. I finally had to reboot to bring it back - and then it proceeded to drop again. Meanwhile, my wife's N4 had no issues.
I went to TMo on Sunday and swapped out the sim - no change. 6P went from fully charged to completely dead overnight (roughly 1AM to 9AM).
So, at this point I'm wondering if I just have a faulty 6P. I'll be calling Google today to see about an RMA exchange :/

Maybe try activating band 12?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-6p/general/fastboot-activate-band-12-volte-t3239652
I found that my wifi network was causing doze to not work as good. I turned off wifi at night last night and got better results with just data.
My radio is accounting for 88% percent of my phones battery drain. I was down to 60 percent with about an hour of SoT. Not sure what's going on with my device either. I was about to factory reset but don't want to.
Bums me out when I see people getting 4+ hours. I want that action.
I had the mobile active bug also, very close to getting an iPhone.
I saw in another thread that apps like GasBuddy has been causing wake locks like you describe. The issue may be app related. Rooting and installing a battery monitor app should give you more insight as well as wiping and loading just your basic apps to find the culprit because something is definitely wrong.
I get 6 hr SOT without doing anything special and at night I lose 1%, sometimes none if I only sleep for 5hrs and that's with wifi on.

After switching service provider, and of course change from SIM card, I noticed a huge battery drain, sometimes over 10% per hour when the phone is almost idle. Battery life WAS very good, but now it's quite bad.
I cannot find anything about this, except for some old articles suggesting a faulty SIM card. I don't have other problems. Any suggestions? Anyone who recognizes this problem?
Battery stats is showing Android System (26%) and Phone Idle (20%) as most important battery draining apps.

It could be the SIM card or it could be the provider. Do you have less bars/signal with the new provider? The only thing that generally causes an idle phone to drain like that is if it's constantly searching to try and pick up a signal. Since the phone was fine before the switch I am willing to bet it's the SIM card. Years ago (LTE was still fairly new) when getting a new phone I had to go through three of them before life was good again. The one that came with the phone was old and outdated so it couldn't pick up a 4G LTE signal. I then went to a store location and they swapped out the SIM card but as luck would have it the ones they had on hand were outdated too. It wasn't until the main office mailed me one that life was all good again.
So yeah try a new SIM card, may want to just call and have them mail you one. Hopefully that helps. If not check what radio bands your new provider uses and compare that to the ones supported on the phone.
