2 Wifi bars on PUBG Mobile - HTC Bolt / 10 Evo Questions & Answers

Just got the bolt love it. Freshly installed Bad Boyz 2.1 (kinda has some hipcups here and there but its good) now PUBG... i play the game the game wants to run a full speed but something is holding it back. Cpu is set to recommended speed for Max perfomance, but the wifi oh boy... Speedtest tells me i have 100Mbs+ of internet speed and ping is at 5 but the game cranks it up to 150ms of ping in the north american server i'll provide screenshot of the main menu of the game and you will see that im on 1 bar of wifi in-game while the phone register full wifi bar

Low speed wifi - HTC HD

I have a wireless router(Asus WL-600G) in my room that support:
802.11g:6,9,12,18,24,36,48,54 Mbps
802.11b:1,2,5.5,11 Mbps
My PC connected to this router with wired lan and ofcource my HTC-HD connected to this router with wireless connection.
But in my phone's wireless LAN setting, in the box of Tx-Rate shows 54Mbps and in the box of Rx-Rate shows 1 Mbps(usually)(some times shows 54Mbps and then change to 1Mbps)
ofcource, I set power save mode to Best Performance.
When I use Resco File Explorer to transfer my files like .avi files, from my pc to my phone, my speed is up to 300KByte/s and it taking too long time, transfering my files.
And I can't watch my movies directly from my local Lan and continiusly my movie player(Core Player) buffering when i want to watch my movie so i can't use it to watch my movies directly from my LAN.
My question is, why my phone's rx-rate is 1Mbps when I have a router that support up to 54Mbps and why my transfer speed is up to 300Kbyte/s
Note: my devices are not so far(1 meter), and my signal progress bar is about 80%, although my Laptop in the same distance has VERY GOOD signal.
Have you tried the following http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=471910
i checked it, don't have any effect on my device !!!
have you tried changing the power settings to better perfomance??

In the thread to "make the wifi faster", they got a "wonderfull" speed up to 1900kbps... kiloBITS per seconds ! As kiloBYTES (the only interesting measure) it's an incredible ~240kB/s. It's just BAD for this kind of connection...
The WiFi on HTC devices is just there to be on the description of the device, cause it's just slower than a good HSDPA (around 4Mb/s or 500kB/s).
I can confirm I only got around 300kB/s using my G router. It's just not useable (you can expect a minimum of 1MB/s for a WiFi G and a max of 700kB/s for a B).

Thx Ipaso
I want to know in this device we don't have a real speed wifi !!? or all other pda like omnio, Xpersia and iphone have same wifi speed
And with 200 kByte/s i can't see my movies from my LAN? because Core player continiusly buffering
It is important for me, I can watch my movies with my HTC-HD device
do u know any other solution to watch my movies directly from my LAN without pouse ?

I totally understand your problem, cause I'm trying to do the exact same thing (transfert avi and watching vids on my phone from my server using WiFi).
Yes - have exactly the same problem!!!
Router G mode, wifi G patch on HD, and speed about 200-300kB
I have the same speed problem with my home router ASUS WL-500w + sometimes it keeps disconnecting and connecting every 2 seconds.
I tried different WIFI router (Huawei) and it seems to work fine.
Tx-Rate shows 54Mbps and Rx-Rate shows 54 Mbps too.
+ with this router it was working on really long distance.
So i think the problem is in my ASUS router.
Today I'll try to use alternative firmware in my ASUS router. Maybe it will help.
Tried with 3 different radio roms, and with each ones, never more than ~300kByte/s... We don't even need WiFi G for this speed !
I wonder... is it because the device is defaulting to 802.11b instead of 802.11g?
one test could be to set your router to ONLY 802.11g......

beebplayer faster on 3G than wifi

I've been playing with the beebplayer which works great over a 3G connection.
However, when I switch to wifi it goes all blocky and stuttery (made up word).
My wifi signal is great and my broadband speed is 5.5Mbps. Using the xtremelabs speedtester app I am getting at 4.6Mbps transfer rate. My 3G is about 1.5Mbps.
Can anyone else test their N1 to confirm, please?
Mine don't work on 3G for some reason.
But on Wifi its a little bit blocky and does stutter a bit but watchable.
Hopefully the BBC hurry up and get a proper Android App sorted out so the quality is on par with the iPhone site/quality!
Sorry to say but both modes are working fine for me.
redmongoose, can you tell me what your download speed on wifi is please?
Sorry for the slow reply - 8253.9 kbits/s for my wifi
I think it uses a higher bit rate over wifi, so the fact you have a faster connection on wifi doesn't necessarily mean it's fast enough.
At the bottom of the synopsis on each program beebplayer gives some figures. This is what it says for Topgear
(wifi:84MB, 3G: 49MB)
And this is what it says for Eastenders.
(wifi:42MB, 3G: 24MB)
Assuming these figures are the size (in megabytes) of each program then it appears the 3G versions are roughly half the size - therefore half the bitrate.
Seeing as my laptop over the same wifi connection can play the higher bitrate version perfectly then I don't see how it can be the connection that is the problem. So it must be something to do with the phone's ability to play the program. It can play the 3G version ok but can't play the wifi version.
Any ideas?

When doing your speed tests - use speak easy

Far better than the apps on the market. It gives real speed of your web connection. I was getting 1.2 -1.5 down on the speed test app when http://www.speakeasy.net/speedtest/ was giving me 4.1ish.
The speedtest.net app has been extremely unreliable for me. When I use it I get a download speed of 800k. If i use a browser based test even from speedtest.net I get 3mbps. The app also lowers my wifi speeds from 5.2mbps to about 3-4. Ping times are also affected.
use www.testmy.net for accurate tests. Make sure you select the mobile tests

Just ran this on my 3GS and I get 3.3mbps on wifi which is impossible considering speedtest.net shows a 30mbps down connection
EDIT : Speak Easy also reports around 30mbps, tried running TestMy on my wired computer and it runs around 14mbps, It seems crippled.

You ran the Speedtest.net on your computer. It will be much slower on the 3GS.
Also, when using the test suite, make sure you select the mobile version, www.testmy.net/mobile
Also select the AUTO option. For comparison, my Verizon Fios connection get 28MB/s download and 27MB/s upload over my laptop using wireless-N 5GHz. Testmy.net gives me the same readings (this is with a XBOX 360 in the background playing COD: Black Ops (hardwired), and my wife upstairs on her laptop playing Cafe' World on the same network band). With nothing else running, my connection is usually spot on 35/35. On my Evo, I get 7.7Mbps download speed. Wireless N but at the 2.4GHz radio. I think when I had my 3GS it was about the same on the Wireless G.
Using the Speedtest app on my phone, I get about 13 downl and 7 up...

Yeah on Speedtest.net app on my iphone on Verizon FiOS I get around 18mbps down with the stock wireless G router. I tried TestMy and it shows a 3.3mbps connection on my iPhone. Both Speedtest and SpeakEasy show a 30mbps down on the wired desktop while TestMy shows only 14down its weird.

Best wi-fi performance

I noticed in the advanced wifi settings the option to tick 'best wi-fi performance' it says this may use more power. Anybody know what it actually does? Also is the DHD wireless n standard without having to do anything?
What rom are you using? I do not see this on leedroid
Just the standard ROM that comes on the phone as i havent rooted.
I have a question on this also

It will be there. You have to press menu on the wifi settings page.
Yep, this definitely uses more battery, this unfortunately is a must for me since I have the phone in a case and I get very poor reception with Wifi otherwise. GPS is also weak takes ages to lock.
It's under Settings -> Wireless & Networks -> Wi-Fi Settings -> Press menu button -> Advanced and it's there.

So enabling it will help WiFi reception? I though it will only boost speed or something. Going to turn it on for a few days and see!

Thanks Haha, never really thought of pressing menu in there kinda figured that was all there was
I'm only getting about 600kBps on a 1.5mBps internet line through WiFi. Going to test this over the next few days.
Sent from my amazing phone w/ Leedroid @ 1.8GHz using XDA App.
This will activate the wlan-n mode...
But it uses lots of battery.

Remember that the signal is never 100% and there is some loss in speed. I always use best wifi performance as it improves the signal and from my room which isn't too far from the router I can max my 5mbs connection which I find quite impressive. On 1.5mbps connection you should be maxing at around 170kbs.
it need more power than normal using
but, i dont know in leedroid hay rev have it
Speedtest.net with best wifi performance: 3703 kbps down 1244 kbps up
Without best wifi performance: 2909 kbps down 1214 kbps up
Makes a slight very slight difference. This was upstairs away from the router. Downstairs I can get 9-10 Mbps whether it is on or off, whereas on my laptop I can get 12-13 Mbps.
It does not apply the n-setting, because if I turn on the n-setting on my router, my phone disconnects from WiFi.

I suppose you have a 1.5 megabit connection and a downstream of 600 kilobyte per second? One byte = 8 bit.
Because if it is like that, you should, as ErOR22 mentioned, not be able to get over 187.5 kB/s (if my calculation is accurate ^^).
If you really mean that you have 1.5 megabyte downstream you could try to get closer to the router and/or minimize the number of walls between you and your router. This should boost your speed.
battery drains real bad when you switch best performance to on and it does activite the n setting its one off HTC's power saving tricks. I have dual band router an my DHD connects fine
for signal, covering the battery cover kills wifi as thats were the antenna is.

My line is 1.5mbytes not bits. I usually hit 1600kbytes a second on my upstairs computer using WiFi g and not n. I should easily be getting 1MB/s at least on my phone
Edit: just did a few speed tests, 1mBps but when doing a lan transfer, it peaks at 900kBps averaging 600kBps. This is my problem. Lan share is useless

That's interesting, you got your numbers wrong again lol. On 1.5Mbs connection you say you download at 1600kbs which is 1.6Mbs lol. Funny that, on LAN you should be getting a lot more. When testing LAN are you coping from from another computer that's on wireless?
When I turn on Best WiFi Performance I idle at around 70mA and with it turned off it's under 10mA, so a huge difference but I need it unfortunately.

=/
kb = kilobits
kB = kilobytes
lowercase b is bits
uppercase is bytes
8 bits per byte, 1024 bytes per kilobyte, etc etc
speed varies because because tv runs off the same line. ~15mb/s without any TVs going or shows being recorded and ~10mb/s or so when 2 or more are being used, but I still only get like ~6-7mb/s on the dhd, same with lan shares accessed from the device
You have your units all mixed up.
Edit: beat me to it, and with an actually informative post... hei hei

Wifi speed no higher than 25mb?

Hi, so I recently noticed that when I run a speed test on my new s7 on wifi it won't go any higher than 25mb. my wifi has an actual speed of 50mb, whenever I run a speed test on on another device (G3 or s5) it easily reaches 50mb. even when I check my wifi through the settings I can see that it says the singnal is very strong and the speed is 56mb, but that doesn't translate to an actual speed test. is anyone else having the same issue? and is there a simple solution? btw my bluetooth is off so that doesnt change anything
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G930A using XDA-Developers mobile app
Well I do not have an actual answer but I do know it is not a hardware limitation, there is some sort of setting that is off either on your router or your device. I am connected to my home Wi-Fi hitting constant 65-70mb speed test.
speedtest.net
PC: 235.64Mbps Down, 23.65 Mbps up
S7 BT On: 103.79Mbps Down, 23.36Mbps up
S7 BT Off: 108.91Mbps Down, 23.78Mbps up
