Right now I have aosp extended 4.6 and any rom i try it has battery drain. I think this might be because of the modem img i have. Which one should I flash? I have an XT1563. Should I extract from 7.1.1 6.0.1 or 5.1.1?

Update: I have tried 7.1.1 and marshmallow modem images. both had really bad battery drain (4% in 30 min) so now I will try 5.1.1

it seems like I must install a new rom over the baseband image or else it will have poor battery life, as all of them appeared to have poor battery life.

What Kind of fail? Error message?
if you have updated to "coj5" or newer builds of 5.1.1 then you can not go back to kitkat or even previous builds of 5.1.1 or 5.0.1. thats why you get "failed" error in odin. unfortunately there is no way to downgrade as of now because coj5 locks the bootloader.

Damn I just downgraded a few days ago with exactly the COJ5 version. I've also heard that some people can't downgrade but it seems like I never had a problem with this.
Maybe if i had such a problem I would try to install a custom ROM / other bootloader with Odin first to see if works with a stock kitkat rom after.

what lollipop version did you downgrade?
Hey so before I updated to 6.0.1 (Previously on 6.0) I would easily get 2 days of constant use with about 7 hours of screen on time, but after i updated to 6.0.1 I'm usually at 30% at the end of the day with 3-4 hours of screen on time. I've tried installing multiple custom roms (AICP, CM, Dirty Unicorn... etc) but any rom based of 6.0.1 gives the same battery drain issue, I also tried AICP Nougat rom but still the same result. Gave greenify a try as well (With root), no change...
I'm running out of ideas to try, like come on its a phone with a 3,630 mAh battery, I should be able to get more then 4 hours of SOT lol. It works beautiful on 5.1.1 and 6.0 but anything newer totally messes it up.
So any help/ideas would be amazing!!!
Which modem firmware have you been using? From what i've read (assuming you really didn't change anything else) that has some impact on battery life, especially using the "wrong" one.

Never thought to check that... Its just the last 3 digits of the baseband version right? If it is it's 33R (Currently on PAC ROM 5.1.1)
So I found on one forum that changing the modem back to the lollipop version fixed their battery issues, so I'll give that a try and see how that goes

So it did help a bit, made my sleep time a tad better, however I can still only get about 4 hours SOT.

I followed partial instructions on how to return to stock firmware, which would be
Code:
fastboot flash modem NON-HLOS.bin
fastboot erase modemst1
fastboot erase modemst2
fastboot erase cache
A problem on my device is more likely, I've had trouble before flashing modems, it seems that even though fastboot says it was flashed, it wasn't

Battrey life is good in Stock , Just delete the unnecessary Moto Services from the stock Firmware.
I didnt tested the one by Innfinite4ever , also you need few days so that battrey would calibrate to give best results
1. LineageOS14.1 (MOTOG3-TE)
2. AEX 5.2 (Moto G Turbo)
Oreo scores more BM than N, i think stock rom would score more.
Also is there any way on increasing performance by flashing the Kernels. If so then which kernel should i Flash

Battery life is very good. I used to get only 3-3.5 hrs SOT in every custom ROM out there. Now I get around 4-4.5 hrs SOT. Not bad for a 2 year old phone.

Do a clean installation as described in OP of @lost101.
-BACKUP ALL YOUR DATA FROM INTERNAL STORAGE AND PLACE ROM IN SDCARD.
-Go to Wipe>Format Data>Yes. It will delete internal storage.
-Then go back to main TWRP screen. Go to Wipe>Factory Reset.
-Then install the ROM.
Everything will work fine.
