Gravity Screen - On/Off
From the play store... It turns off the screen when it's in your pocket...

doesn't that eat battery? cause it keeps using the proximity sensor? and sucks that essential does not have it i mean sure full Android is pretty naked...

Yeah it's one of the issues I've noted -- if I have it in my running pouch when I go to take it out it'll say the fingerprint sensor has had too many tries -- but the prox sensor was covered the entire time, so why did the phone LOOK AT the fingerprint sensor even if it detected contact? It shouldn't, since logically both should never be in contact with something at the same time, UNLESS the phone is in your pocket!

Did you change the device name to "skynet"?
lmao.. that sounds strange!
This isn't strange at all. I'm working with many capacitive screens and whenever you have a lot of interferences (static charges, ground), the screen treats them as inputs. The bigger the screen, the more sensitive it becomes.
One solution is to reduce the sensor threshold, but for the Leo, you may not be able to configure the sensor...

It's gonna be +1,000,000 at least for anyone who comes up with an app to do that!

Does the iPhone allow you to do this?
count me in and I can actually make the screen go "crazy"
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=584867
when can we expect a new rom from htc, maybe it will solve the issues
I think your device is broken, i have had the same problem and i swapt my device for another one and now i don't have the problem anymore.
So if it happens often you should go back to the shop you've bought it.
It's happened once to me (in Opera) in several days of quite intensive use (love this phone ).
Having the same problem with my device. For no apparent reason, it would have a mind of its own and constantly trigger parts near the centre of the screen, it got quite freaky when it kept hitting 2 for me when I was dialling a number.
Will be popping into store to get it changed tomorrow (if they have stock).
same here, screen sensitivity is way too high. Hope a fix comes out for this
Had my phone exchanged today, new one running smoothly!

Proximity Sensor

Is there an app which toggles proximity sensor to turn on/off the screen?
I'm currently using a book case cover and wanted my tab to have an option so that when I open the case, it'll automatically turn the screen on, and when I'm done, I could just simply close the cover and the screen will shut off, it'bb be useful for thos who loves sending SMS and have to manually trun on the screen (although it will be ON when you received the message) and turn it off once you're done texting (I know the screen will turn off after a few seconds or so)
Thanks

just saw a app doing this job weeks ago, in the android app section, but forgot the name, so i think it can be done

Like the last poster, I saw a similar app in a blog last week. I think it was either Gizmodo, Lifehacker, or Engadget.
Anyway, dunno what it was called, but a quick google search yielded this: link
EDIT: Found it! Here you'l definitely find what you're looking for, if I understood correctly.

This is awesome. Thanks!
I gave Smart Screen Off a try and while it's promising, it's just too darn sensitive. The slightest shadow from your hand will turn the screen off. Needs more work IMO.

Didn't works with book cover...
To fix this, I patch the cover with a little bit self adhesive in the sensors area

Research 'build.prop' and [your device]. You can probably fool the market into thinking it should in reality work. Or it could be that your build.prop has a mistake in it.
Or, if it's free software, download it to your PC and install it manually.
Google 'how to install apk android', if you don't know how to do this.
I'm interested in a reverse app, a one which turns the display on when you cover the proximity sensor. What use does such an app have?
On the Nokia N900 there was an app called Proximity Clock, you'd turn it on at night, lay the phone by your bed, switct the screen off. Then when you wake up, just put your hand over the phone, not searching for the phone's power button or anything, and it would bring up the display and show you a fluorescent night clock. Then after a configurable delay, the screen would go off again. Ingenious.
Anyone know of such an app for Android?

This made me lol. This post could've ended here and would have made my day.
Wow. That sounds absolutely absurd. With this my phone could always be on and consuming precious battery when I don't need it to be, in my pocket for example (jk, I get it).
Sorry to say, I haven't.
The point is, you turn this functionality on for the night. That way you don'tmhave to struggle to turn the phone on to see what time it is, if you wake up mid-night...
You don't have it (the phone) wake up during the day when it's in your pocket.

Yeah, like I said... I get it. But I really have never had a problem finding the power button on my phone (or any of my past phones), even in the dark. Hell, I can press it while it's in my pocket and I'm riding a bicycle. I guess it's a super-power that I've been blessed with.
I also have a clock radio that has an LCD display, which is easy to see in the dark.
I was just pointing out that this functionality is a bit of a uni-tasker, and probably lacks mass appeal, if I am indeed in the majority.
Hahahah... Congrats on the Super Power )
Anyhow, I wake up quite often in the night before meetings and stuff, and wanna quickly check the time, and as you're sleepy, the phone slips and what have you.
So that app for me, though it sounds corny, was the most beloved app on the phone, I really found it Super useful. I'd like to have it back...
In fact there is one nice application. It's called smart screen off. There is a lite and a pro version. What it basically does is turns off the display off when the proximity sensor is covered and turns on when the sensor is not covered. Well work great with your book case.

I think the OP got that suggestion already...
drawbacks - consumes more power LOL, nevertheless, I love it
I even suggested it to a bookcase seller
OT, but a follow up to my question, I'm currently testing ProximityScreenOff, which does turn the screen off an on based on the proximity sensor, even unlocks the device whi9h is key ifmyou wanna see other clock than the one on the lockscreen.

[Q] Note 3 Proximity Sensor works even after the call!

Whenever I make, receive or even check my balance(which had absolutely nothing to do with the sensor), after the call is over proximity sensor still works! :crying:
Gets pretty annoying some time Later, can't work, play games, watch movies just somehow hand comes in front of it and then Sensor detects it and black out the entire screen!
Please if someone knows anything about it, I desperately need their help! Thanks. :good:
Might sound silly, but have you enabled all your Samsung Air/Gesture commands etc? -- also Smart stay/Pause?
If so, disable them.

I absolutely never enable them they're off since I got my phone but the sensor still continues to annoy me!
What should I do to stop it?
there are a few thread for proximity sensors problems... search and you will find some useful information.
but in short, there is probably some dust in front of the proximity sensor.
a temporary fix is to blow some air in the earpiece... but the problem will eventually come back.
I do this once a month.
The other thing you can do is disassemble your phone, clean the proximity sensor lens, maybe add some kind of protection to protect it from dust... and reassemble everything.

Try going to Settings>General>Application manager>All>Phone and clearing data.
If that doesn't help, try doing a factory reset.
Failing that, try availing warranty, or if you are Knox 0x1, try another ROM.

His problem seems to be a software issue and not a hardware one.

I had the exact same problem with my device... and the problem is hardware (dust in front of the proximity sensor)...
I tried everything, including a factory reset, and the only thing that fix it (for now) is to blow some air in the earpiece.
Next step will be to disassemble and clean the sensor manually

Well, you could just disable the proximity sensor and turn the screen off manually by pressing power.
Phone --> Call Settings --> Turn off screen during calls.
Not ideal, but at least you can still use your phone.

Try what he says! if this do not work then, or you have to pay to get your phone fixed or find a way to fix it yourself (buying a new proximity sensor and changing it through the help of videos). The second option will be a pain in the *** and I would never try it as I am not sure if it could go well.
Absolutly same problem i gotta
my proximity senzor is still little red Everything works fine. Like test or calls but is still slightly red. When i restart phone is black but after first call is slightly red and turn black only after restart.. but works fine. Any solution?

[Bounty - 25€] Disable fingerprint scanner when in pocket

Hi!
Since I`ve had it with HTC FP scanner, I`m willing to pay/donate/whatever 25€ for feature, that effectivley makes FP "DEAD" when in pocket (like gestures or edge sense).
FP has to be totally dead, it cannot wake the screen and it must not unlock the phone when correct finger is approached IF proximity sensor is blocked (in pocket or covered with finger).
Problematic screenshot: https://dl.xda-developers.com/4/2/3....png?key=TE1t1Ck2PtXFwA8Ih4py2Q&ts=1502032478
It can be:
* app
* kernel option
* you tell me
It has to be available to all, users and developers to use it as they wish in their roms or kernels.
Since we have many great devs that work their asses off for us, I`m willing to pay for this feature and hope that it can be done in a way, that we can all use it.
BTW, if someone else is willing to chip in, be my guest, I will add you to the list
Thanks!
I hope too that this gets some solution.
As far as I've dug into this whole topic, the sensor connections are now a big portion managed by nanohub firmware applications that are not part of the kernel code anymore.
Google replaced sensorhub with nanohub. It looks like it became very hard to get proper sensor states or hooks since this.
Same applies here as it seems to me. The proximity results are not channeled through CPU running kernel code.
I'm still looking at this, but even in the nanohub driver this didn't appear as processed data, looks like the different conditions are connected outside the kernel code.
While squeeze driver and touchscreen are also working correctly when pocket mode is detected, but this happens without the old ways kernel was doing a few years back.
I've checked the staging/nanohub and proximity drivers so far on kernel side, for a pointer.
You can disable "tap fingerprint scanner to wake phone" in settings. I was having a problem with it doing all kinds of stuff in my pocket till I disabled that. And I can still use fingerprint scanner to wake phone as long as I use the finger that I have scanned. Only that print will wake phone or screen.

Screen turning on and off by itself

Hi,
My Nexus 6P started to act weirdly 3 days ago. Sometimes when I use it the screen turn off just by moving it a little bit. When it do it it it's only after a few second otherwise it works totally fine. Sometimes I use it in my hand and just putting it in my table or in any flat surfaces turn the screen off and grabing the phone again turn the screen on again... Is there a bad contact or a broken power button ? It feels like shaking the phone a little bit often help. I'm on the latest official Oreo, I have no special app installed and Ambiant Display and this kind of kinds are all disabled, I can only turn the screen on by power button.I have no boot-loop or problems like that. And it seems like it never turn on and off in my pocket.
Do you have an idea what could be the problem ?

I don't want to be an alarmist, but it doesn't sound good. Check your battery capacity with the Accubattery app. Just in case I would make sure your photos are being auto-backed up to the cloud and do a full backup of the phone, storing it on your PC. Enable usb debugging and allow oem unlock under dev settings. If your screen does die completely, you won't be able to get into your phone to do this. If you enable usb debugging, at least you will be able to adb pull any files you need off the phone. Check that battery health.

Yeah thank you buddy ! Don't worry, I do a full TWRP backup of my phone every week. Battery is working great, I don't have the below X% shuting down bug, no bootloop bug and I can do a whole day without charging (except if I play on my phone, which is normal). I'm thinking more about a bad contact of the screen connector or the power button.
I found that it was the magnetic sensor used for the flip cover that cause this Strange behavior. I have a pouch that close with a magnet and it randomly interact with the phone. Is it possible to disable the lock and unlocking by magnet sensor?

The N6P has a magnetic sensor to turn off the screen with Folio case. My Nexus 7 has this feature and I can use my kernel (EX Kernel Manager) to enable/disable it. It is an option to toggle on or off under Settings>>Miscellaneous. That setting is not there for the N6P, but shouldn't be that difficult to implement if you are using EX kernel. I'd ask over in the dedicated EX Kernel thread. Maybe Flar2 can hook you up.
